China moon is a go-to. I like near it and it's consistent and good. Employees/owners are very friendly to top off the good food. I'd say this is a perfectly average Chinese food restaurant with friendly service and consistent options. Parking is easy. Note that they are closed on Tuesday. Ambiance is bearish mostly because it is primarily a takeout restaurant (and I'm sure Covid reduced dine-ins). Overall, if you're nearby, want good food for good value and good and friendly service, I recommend China Moon. read more

Wasn't expecting much the first time I visited, and it wasn't very good. I had the House Special Fried Rice. Turned out starchy, not much taste. I would have given it two stars then, but I gave them a second chance a couple days ago. This time I ordered a couple things (don't order when you're hungry)... The Orange Chicken and the Shrimp Egg Foo Yung. Inadvertently I got dinner orders of each, so it wound up almost thirty bucks of food, and far too much for one sitting. To my pleasant surprise, the Orange Chicken was absolutely delicious. I managed to stuff my fat belly with the whole order, and then put the Fu in the fridge. Next day I had the whole Fu. Dang, that was tasty, even if the shrimp had lost that bit of pop. The gravy was yummy. Sometimes you have to figure out what a place does well, and then stick with that. China Moon is excellent fast food Chinese. It reminded me of being a kid at the mall and getting food court Chinese. The place is really sketchy inside, with it having a pretty rundown seating area with flickering lights, broken chairs, etc., but it's a takeout place so no big deal. I ordered the Sesame Chicken Combo plate which came with fried rice and an egg roll. For the price, it is one of the best options in Uptown. It was super cheap and a large quantity. China Moon looks like a straightforward Chinese stripmall takeout spot that's really cheap, but it's a teensy bit above-average with a couple unusual options. I'd probably come back for their savory dishes. We got the vegetable egg rolls ($1.55 each) and they were respectable, though mostly full of cellophane noodles. The steamed vegetable dumplings ($5.85 for 8 pieces) were fine, but not any different from what you'd get from the frozen aisle at a grocery store. Their taro pancake ($6.55) is unusual (I don't know of any other places in Minneapolis that offer this) and slightly sweet. It's more like a fried dessert. The scallion pancake ($6.55) was fine, and the cold noodles with sesame sauce ($4.60) is a giant portion size for decent, but slightly sweet noodles. Take a pass on the kong pao bean curd ($10.25) which had a ridiculously sweet sauce that made the dish inedible. It was like candy. The bean curd hunan style ($8.55) and the vegetable lo mein ($5.69) were both good, solid dishes. I also liked the mock duck ($8.55) which is an unusual dish for a Chinese restaurant of this type, though the mock duck pieces themselves were too large. Pro-tip: order from their BeyondMenu website instead of GrubHub. The menus are identical, but GrubHub's menu prices are all 10% higher for the same exact dishes. Delivery is $3 and took about 45 minutes from order to getting to my door. If you're looking for giant portion sizes and low prices, China Moon is pretty good. I am searching for the best cheap Chinese in Minneapolis, and this definitely ain't it. I truly loathe writing negative reviews to small businesses, but this food simply is not good. I hadn't tried this place in a few years after getting burned on a meal, so I figured I'd give it a second go hoping that it got better. It did not. We got the General Tso's chicken lunch special, and hot/spicy shrimp lunch special. The General was overwhelmingly sweet to the point that the food was practically inedible. The hot and spicy shrimp was done with some sort of red sauce that tasted like a mixture of sweet and sour with Louisiana hot sauce. We requested for both to be extremely spicy, and both dishes were truly mild. The hot and sour soup was the star item of the meal, and that wasn't amazing either. With so many legitimate Chinese options in the city, this is certainly one that you'd want to cross off your list if you like truly spicy food. read more

It came with 2 cream cheese wontons that I didn't get. It was burning up in there, felt better outside. To begin, we did not expect much since we knew it was one of those greasy Chinese American place and we did eat here because we wanted it. We ordered sweet and sour pork, Mongolian beef, and Singapore chow fun. The sweet and sour pork red sauce was neither sweet or sour; and the pork was not at all crunchy. The Mongolian beef was actually the best dish; it was what you would expect it to be. The most disappointed dish was the chow fun. Ouch!!! Thats the one word to summarize my experience. I ordered Chow mein (veg), steamed dumplings(veg) & veg in Garlic sauce from here ( Delivery). Packing: My packet was stapled with food neatly packed . Food Quantity: enough for two hungry people Taste: Ouch!! I am sorry to be blunt but it was tasteless. I think it's a toss up between star ratings. I found they're one of the rare places that serve crab rangoons. I give it a definite 5/5 tasting! I can tell it was handmade and all the ingredients inside consisted of what I grew up having. I also ordered their beef lomein. Vegetables were sparse but enough beef and lots of noodles. It tasted as if it had too much soy sauce or salt. I'd give it a 3/5, hence my end rating. This was takeout and it was made in a good amount of time during the weekday. I love it. My best friend and I just ordered randomly online (we're both Minneapolis natives) and have eaten at a lot of the Chinese places in the city. However China Moon is new to us and it was a surprising success. I wasn't sure what to expect but everything was so hot, fresh and flavorful. We picked it up in store and when we got there they were still finishing making it - they took the food straight out of the wok and into the containers for our order. Nothing was sitting in warming pans, they made it all as we watched. We ordered general Tso's chicken, fried rice, wontons, doughnuts, beef teriyaki and egg rolls. Everything was fantastic. Full servings! I would have taken more pictures but we demolished everything so fast. The wontons are my favorite because the majority of places in Mpls use a mixture of cream cheese and a sweet cream to make their wontons. However China Moon uses regular cream cheese to make a savory, crispy hot treat that I love. I prefer plain cheese wontons and I finally found a place that does them perfectly! I loved it. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea, China Moon shines brightly in those three areas -- consistently delivering fresh food at a fair price. Ordered the beef and broccoli combo that came with chicken fried rice and an eggroll, as well as cream cheese ragoons, egg drop soup, and beef lo mein. I got it delivered via GrubHub. Even after the delivery fee (to a third party since I live a bit far) it was moderately priced for Chinese. The beef and broccoli plate was a good size and everything seemed to be of good quality. The broccoli was fresh and still crisp and everything tasted nice. The egg roll was perfectly ginger-y and the ragoons were large with a lot of cheese. The only dish I was unhappy with was the egg drop soup. It had the consistency of raw eggs (or mucus) which made it impossible to eat. I'm not sure if it's because it had cooled during delivery so coagulated or if it was a bad batch, but I've never had egg drop that was this thick. I came by around 2pm to grab a quick to-go meal, and it sure was quick! I was in there for less than 10 minutes. I ordered the Egg Drop Soup (small for $1.99) and a Lo Mein (small for $5.19). It was cooked fast and came out hot. Even when I got home, it was still hot, so I chowed down right away. The egg drop soup was plentiful and very good! The lo mein came with a lot of chicken, but lacked veggies. There were a few thin mushroom slices, but not much besides that. I liked the lo mein itself, but I may ask for extra veggies next time! This is for the Minneapolis location. The food and delivery has been better; this time not at all. The delivery was late, about 25 minutes beyond the stated time. The food was lukewarm. I ordered a Diet Pepsi and was given a regular Pepsi. The delivery driver was poor at best, not finding the address, when it is about one mile from the restaurant. I've been inside that business, and the delivery drivers either do not use GPS or even a map inside the restaurant. This is poor practice. The driver also did not call me upon arrival, as instructed. I had to call the restaurant and they called him. He stated he was in front of the residence. I told him, "I see him two houses up the street" and he was not in front of my residence. And, no, I was not going to fetch the food for a cost of $24. I ordered one meal of sesame white chicken with white rice, a small order of won ton soup, and the drink. I do not tip on tax, drinks, or delivery fees. I gave a $2 tip. Still, the cost was $24. I look very forward to relocating to my original hometown of about 75,000 on the east coast in spring 2021. Prices in Minneapolis are just not warranted for the level of service, and it has only turned worse. read more

This is for the delivery driver, who doesn't know how to ring a doorbell. As I answered my phone when he called (phone rang twice), he was using expletives. Not what you wanna hear from someone bringing your food. And, as he walked away, a few more expletives were thrown at me when I commented on his colorful language (kindly). Horrible customer service .................. Ordered online from grubhub. Paid $30 and was given an estimate of 1 hour. After waiting an hour and fifteen minutes I called the restaurant to check on my order. After a long discussion with a the "manager on duty" i was told that the fax from grubhub with the order never came through. They said that they would gladly make the order but it would take another hour to get to me............... I work in the service industry and whether the fax came through or not is not my problem, that is between the restaurant and grubhub and this should not affect the customer which it did. As well where is the service recovery????????? They advised that they would provide a 20% discount on my order. Wow thank you for taking $5 off my order after waiting two hours. Ended up canceling the order and having to go get food somewhere else. I might be grumpy because I am hungry but coming from the service industry this was horrible customer service and an even worst service recovery. I cannot speak for the food quality but I will not be dining here and certainly do not recommend this due to the poor quality of service.
