This spot is new to Malcom yards since my last visit so I wanted to try them out. They also had a temporary pop up called chick'n flip that offers fried chicken and sides. It's so difficult to decide what to order since everything looks good, however, looks can be deceiving and I was left wanting something more. The sushi was a bit overpriced for the quality. I got a crunchy roll and it was around $20 for 8 pieces. The sauce helped the flavor of it but the whole roll was super dry. For $20 you can find better sushi elsewhere. I also ordered the chicken sandwich from their Chick'n Flip pop up. The sandwich was fine but I don't need to order it again. The bread and chicken were buttery and crispy but the coleslaw on top was too overpowering and very messy. It was saucy and flavorful but there was way too much slaw. It looks pretty in photos but I won't be racing back for this one.

We did what all smart foodies do... we asked a staff member what their favorite rolls were and followed the insider scoop. Spoiler alert: they did not disappoint. Big Flip (5/5): TEN beastly, deep-fried pieces of crunchy, creamy, mango-magic sushi. I was initially skeptical about fruit in my roll, but it was a total flavor bomb. Think tempura meets tropical vacation. Slammin' Salmon (5/5): Shrimp tempura and seared salmon living their best lives together in one roll. It's giving: rich, satisfying, and a little bit fancy. I'm a huge fan of Malcolm Yards in general, especially with big groups. No one leaves hangry. The vibe is casual, modern, and totally Instagrammable with all that glorious natural light. However, I do think we are paying extra $$$ for that ambiance. Pro tip: Come hungry. Leave happy.

Ive been to the downtown location but this was my first time at the one at Malcom yard. I would probably go to the downtown one more often but they close at 2, so that's the main reason I went to this one. First thing i realized was that the price was about $3 more here than the one downtown. I'm guessing it has something to do with its location. I got my favorite sandwich, the bulgolgi. It taste pretty much the same but the bread i got was the back piece and it was much larger than usual and that threw it off a bit. Staff was fine and food came out quick. I would say it doesnt capture the same vibes as downtown does but Malcom yard is still a nice space to sit down and eat.

My friends and I checked out Egg Flip because I've been thinking about these egg sandwiches ever since I tried it in Chicago. It was not a disappointment. The portion was huge! It was delicious! I love that this was location was in the Market Malcom Yards so there's a lot of parking and seating. Service was great as it didn't feel long for them to prepare the food. It was warm out so we ate our food on the patio and it was great! They played music on the speaker but it wasn't too loud where we couldn't hear each other. I would definitely come back again!

Momo Sushi is my favorite sushi in Minneapolis. Everytime I get asked for a sushi spot…read morerecommendation, I always say Momo. The rolls are huge and packed with incredible combinations. There is a great variety of rolls so everyone is going to be pleased with the meal. The restaurant itself is tight on space but the dining experience makes up for it. I recommend you beat the dinner rush and go early when they reopen for the evening. Warning, it does get really busy almost everyday because it is just that good! Location-wise it is great because if you struggle to find parking in the small lot next to the spot, you can park on a residential street behind the restaurant and take a short stroll. I'm curious as to what the takeout experience is, I haven't had the chance to order, I would rather dine in the restaurant.

It was fine, we walked through the Indian grocery next door. (also fun!) We had a great little table inside. We ordered the Giaoza pork and tumpra veggies to start. (everything was gone the second it hit the table, so no pics) The arrived the sushi, and the hibachi. Every bit was amazing. No left overs and my son (8) orders more Goaoza to go! It was less that $60 for our family of 4. I can't wait to come back and try more.

This was, without a doubt, the best sushi and service I have ever experienced…read more I enjoy new experiences. Before Saturday I had never heard of Omakase. For those of you reading this that are in that boat, it is well worth it. Omakase is a five-course sampler of the best sushi they have to offer. Calling it a sampler does a disservice to the artistry and mastery of the craft that to a very select few is sushi. Bask (I hope I spelled that right) is one such master. My buddy and I came in for a fun visit to the Twin Cities. On an impulse, he suggested sushi, and my instinct was to check Yelp. I'm glad I did. We sat at the bar after a short wait, where we met Emma. Emma is a bringer and friendly bar tender who happens to love sushi. We read through the menu and saw that Omakase had a whole page devoted to it. Emma let us know that the chef and cook staff dismantle whole fresh fish frequently, ensuring their fish meets their high standard. That one fact made the decision easy. I wish I had taken pictures of the food. You'll have to take my word for it that each serving was a work of art, some in their simplicity, others arranged with delicate touches of culinary flair. Without pictures of the dishes, the best I can do are two examples. The first course was three different cuts from the same ahi tuna, featuring the leanest portion, a medium portion and a fatty portion of the same fish. Having fresh fish and experiencing such variety from the same animal was eye opening. The other example was the uni. Both of us had tried it at other establishments and neither of us recalled our respective experiences fondly. Here, the flavor and texture was what I was told I should expect with uni. If I had known it was part of the meal before ordering, I probably wouldn't have gone with it. Now, I'm open to having it again, and if it's here I'll enjoy it again. The meal was perfectly portioned for my buddy and myself to feel full, but not stuffed. The flavors and textures were perfect. Words fail to reach the feelings invoked. We may have just been ruined on sushi. I eagerly await my next trip to your beautiful city, if only to visit Billy Sushi again.

I will admit, it's a bit too fancy for me sometimes. And the price matches. But it has been a delightful and delicious dining experience both times, so who am I to complain? I really want to come back and do the omakase sometime. -Cocktails: They have this whole big explanation about how they take special care in the curation of their cocktails, and I have to say, they are pretty great. I got the Party Girl this last time and it was good but pretty boozy. The gold flak on the top of it was a bit over the top for me, but whatever. My friend got the Raspberry Beret, which was delicious and obviously appropriately themed for Minneapolis and being down the street from First Ave. The restaurant also has an impressive selection of sake, Japanese beer, etc. -Apps: We love the yuzu tuna and have gotten it both times. This last time we also got the salmon carpaccio, which was also delicious. I love age dashi tofu, and this version was good - but not the best (Oragimi has a better one). We found the broth to be delicious, but the one big chunk of tofu was a bit unwieldy, and the coating was a bit gummy. I would pass on that one next time. -Sushi-wise: Nigiri are amazing here - delicious, perfectly cut fish, generous portions, rice that is often still warm. No complaints. For rolls, we love the Big Blue Wave and the Toro Mania. We also ordered the Fancy & Furious, which was less delicious to me but still pretty tasty. Service both times was totally fine - nothing exceptional but nothing to complain about either. I am sure we'll be back. Note: you basically need a reservation if you want to come during a prime time or on the weekend. Book ahead.

3-Star Michelin Vibes -- Without the Flight to Tokyo!…read more Having dined at Jiro in Tokyo, I can confidently say this spot rivals that world-class experience -- with a warmer touch and a staff that speaks perfect English! From the moment we arrived, the valet parking made everything easy (though I recommend taking an Uber if you're doing the wine pairing... you'll definitely want to savor every sip). We went for the Matsu omakase, and wow -- every course was a work of art. The freshly grated wasabi, the thoughtful pacing, and watching each dish come to life at the sushi bar turned dinner into a full sensory experience. Chef Shiga was an incredible host -- friendly, engaging, and clearly passionate about his craft. And to top it all off, we had the pleasure of meeting Owner-Chef Shigeyuki Furukawa at the end of our meal -- such a gracious and humble culinary genius! My wife and I left absolutely blown away and already planning our next visit. Perfect for a date night, a special celebration, or simply treating yourself to something unforgettable. This place has officially earned a spot on our favorites list!

Dang...we had an underwhelming second experience here :/…read more My first visit in 2021 was a 5-star experience (see past review!), and after our trip to Japan, I was soooo excited to bring my family here. Unfortunately, it just wasn't the same top tier experience. We booked the chef's table which was the highlight! We enjoyed getting to watch the chef and team prepare the fare, and chef even spoke to us at one point. Definitely a high level of skill there. We got the yakitori to start: good, but nothing crazy, and the price point for the small skewers is so high. The waygu was a bit tough. After time in Japan, we were JAZZED to get the okonomiyaki pizza, but it was...very sad. Hardly any toppings, and I don't even think it had cabbage on it? No cabbage on an okonomiyaki pizza...? We got a pasta to share as well, and it had great flavors but the portion was oh-so-tiny. We got the special morel pizza to share, and the price was STEEP (I think around $50) due to the rarity of morels, but it was the best thing we had! The gluten-free pizza crust felt small and wasn't overly substantial, so we didn't find much of the meal filling. This meal was quite pricey, and this second experience was more lackluster than our first.

Drinks: The Last Samurai cocktail & the Imposter Among Us mocktail were both delightful. Love the unique drink options, and the two we had were executed beautifully. Sushi: Unfortunately, the sushi was a bit disappointing. We had the hotate yuzu, Suzuki oshizushi, tamago nigiri, and the futomaki. The rice was unfortunately undercooked, and also too lightly seasoned. The tamago was alright, the futomaki was very good though. Dessert: The yuzu custard - one of my favorite desserts I've eaten in a long time. Definitely the best thing we had and I would absolutely get it again. Service: Our service was pretty good. I did watch one of the other servers grab soup spoons by the part you eat from and then bring them to a table which was concerning. The ambiance is a bit odd and disjointed but we kind of loved it as it keeps the "hole in the wall" feeling. Our server was fantastic - we weren't sure how hungry we were so we just ordered rolls, nagiri, and onigiri as the dinner rolled on with no real objective other than than walking away full - and he just rolled with us as we went. The sake flight was great with some generous pours but I was disappointed in the mocktails. The rolls were delicious, albeit a bit basic. The onigiri was great and I was a huge fan of the salmon but the tuna just wasn't hitting for me. We were in the mood for sushi so we didn't stray too far on the menu but we'll definitely be back for the hot dogs and a broader spread which I think will help boost this spot to five stars for me. Thanks for the fun meal!
