Momo Sushi is my favorite sushi in Minneapolis. Everytime I get asked for a sushi spot recommendation, I always say Momo. The rolls are huge and packed with incredible combinations. There is a great variety of rolls so everyone is going to be pleased with the meal. The restaurant itself is tight on space but the dining experience makes up for it. I recommend you beat the dinner rush and go early when they reopen for the evening. Warning, it does get really busy almost everyday because it is just that good! Location-wise it is great because if you struggle to find parking in the small lot next to the spot, you can park on a residential street behind the restaurant and take a short stroll. Stopped by for dinner on Thursday night. We had a party of 6, so it took 30 minutes to be seated. The amazing staff kept updating us. It was fine, we walked through the Indian grocery next door. (also fun!) We had a great little table inside. We ordered the Giaoza pork and tumpra veggies to start. (everything was gone the second it hit the table, so no pics) The arrived the sushi, and the hibachi. Every bit was amazing. No left overs and my son (8) orders more Goaoza to go! I have been to Momo a number of times and it's by far my favorite sushi stop in the Twin Cities. They have a very cute restaurant located on Central Ave in northeast Minneapolis. While the restaurant interior is not small, they have a nice outdoor patio as well as very quick service which helps make the lines move quickly. The menu is incredibly affordable and fresh compared to most of the other sushi restaurants in the area. When you sit down and have your food, you forget you're 1000 miles from the ocean in all directions. My favorite thing to get is the sushi bowl which is more than enough for 2 people to share. For just 40 bucks and some change, you get a massive selection of sashimi, sushi, and sushi rolls that will leave you feeling stuffed. I absolutely love this place! read more

Momo is consistently good and consistently fresh. This is a sushi spot where you never have to worry about freshness or quality - they always deliver. Their prices have always remained reasonable as well. Momo serves classic and eclectic American sushi rolls, along with several other Asian-fusion dishes. The facility is cute, casual, and family-friendly but also very crowded most of the time (completely out of the restaurants control - just a sign of how loved they are by the Minneapolis community!). My only complaint about Momo is that, on occasion, the food takes an extensive amount of time to arrive to the table (usually on a Weekend night). However, the staff has been very apologetic when this happens. Overall, this is my favorite sushi spot I came across in all of Minneapolis during my years there. My go-to order: Momo roll, Beauty and the Beast, and a Salmon Avocado roll. Great everytime. One of my favorite things about Momo is their seaweed salad-topped rolls. I'm downgrading this to four stars since I had bad stomach pain on and off for a week after dining here and so did my friend and husband after he ate the food. We think the sashimi was the cause and the pain started during the meal. We ordered rolls, momos and sashimi. The first time I dined here I got rolls only and had no issues. I rarely get stomach pain and the last time I experienced this type of pain was about 20 years ago. I still really enjoy the sushi here and my previous review about the food is still accurate. If I came back I'd probably just stick to sushi rolls and/or cooked food. read more

I feel like I've been living under a rock not having eaten at momo until now!! A friend and I stopped by on a nice Saturday night and they had a rather large crowd waiting on the patio, but the heaters were on and they handed out some complimentary warm drinks so the time went quickly. Inside was cozy and we got seated with complimentary miso soup. The value here is incredible! Prices are affordable and portions are large. I love sushi and was hoping Momo would be great but I wasn't impressed. I was seated outside in the greenhouse and loved the plants surrounding it. Service was hit or miss. First, it took a while to bring water. And it was hot out! Shortly after I got water, the waitress came to take my order. I ended up waiting at least 15 mins for my food to arrive. I order the rainbow roll, which is a CA roll topped with different types of fish. I'm from CA and normally a CA roll is crab and avocado. The menu doesn't state what's in the CA roll. My rainbow roll arrived and had a ton of cucumber and minimal fish. I should have asked if it had cucumber (and remove it if it did) when I ordered but none of the sushi places I frequent have cucumber in a CA. More concerning is the fish didn't seem fresh and was flavorless. I told the above to the waitress who asked how the roll was. A few mins later another woman appears who doesn't introduce herself but appeared to be the chef. She said the fish was fresh and if I was there at 9 am I would have seen that it was fresh. WTF?? Maybe it was fresh but how would I know as a first time customer? I'm not saying she's wrong but it just gave me a bad vibe. They were slow to bring the check out. Thank goodness the bill wasn't too expensive. But I'd rather pay more for sushi that's flavorful and better service. Given Momo's 4.5 star rating, I'm bummed that my experience didn't live up to that. Maybe I came on an off night or ordered wrong. The service is a bit off here at times as I noticed they tend to forget silverware and waters when asked. But it's also super busy when my friends and I go. Try to get the Sushi Bucket! My go-to sushi place in Minneapolis! Their cuts of sashimi are the THICKEST I've ever seen in my life and the quality of fish is sooooo good. Their sushi rice is also perfectly seasoned, and is the exact right consistency every time. I'm big on the lunch specials here--their sushi-sashimi lunch ($14.95) is one of the best deals in town! 4 pieces of nigiri, 6 pieces of sashimi, and a tuna roll. The nigiri and sashimi are chef's choice and rotate, but you can always expect salmon and tuna to me in the mix (and their salmon is the best I've ever had--soooo buttery and smooth!). Whether you dine in or order to-go, you also get a complimentary miso soup with your order, which makes it an even sweeter deal than it already is. When I come for dinner, my go-to is the chirashi ($18.95), which is 10 pcs of chef's choice sashimi over their (again, perfectly-seasoned) rice. The cuts are enormous, it's so filling, and I would literally eat an entire bowl of their oshinko (the yellow pickled radish) if that were an option. It's a hip vibe, and pretty popular in the area, so definitely expect a wait if you go on a weekend night, but since we went during December and it was freezing, they had a warming tent set up outside for folks to wait in. They've got a nice patio where you can eat outside during the summer, and I think part of it may be heated in the winter (but don't quote me on that). The service is always quick and attentive, so even on the busiest of nights, your wait is never long. This place is an absolute gem and unbelievable value--I truly believe their fish cuts are on par with some of the more expensive spots in the area! I went back and tried a mix of their specialty rolls and regular rolls. Their specialty rolls taste really good, fresh, and flavorful. My favorite is the March roll. It comes with spicy Kani, spicy tuna, seaweed salad, avocado, shrimp tempura, eel sauce, and wasabi tobiko. Their fish is consistently fresh, they don't put too much rice, and their service is excellent. I still don't taste rice vinegar in the sushi rice, but it's ok because the specialty rolls have other added flavors. I've gotten takeout from Momo Sushi a couple of times and dined in two other times. All my experiences have been fantastic! Everything is always delicious and service has been perfect. My favorite thing to get here is the Sushi Bucket, which always has a great assortment of sushi (5 pieces of sushi, 9 pieces of sashimi, a California roll, and 2 chef′s choice special rolls). I went with a friend for lunch at 12:30 pm on a Friday. The restaurant was busy, but their outdoor patio was open so we were able to get right in. They do have a parking lot behind the restaurant but it was being resurfaced the day we went. This area can be challenging to find street parking during busy hours. Overall they have a menu with a lot of options and great lunch specials. Food: 4/5. Overall the food was fantastic. We got the lunch special with 3 sushi rolls (mango, salmon and avocado, and tempura shrimp), tempura shrimp, tempura sweet potatoes, and cream cheese wontons. The food all came fast and was very fresh. I thought the shrimp tempura was very flavorful, but the sweet potato tempura could have used some salt or spice and was very bland. The sushi was great! One thing to note, the lunch special sushi is stripped down. For example our mango roll only had rice and mango and came with 4-6 small pieces. If you're looking for things other than just rice/meat and a larger portion, I would look at their speciality rolls. I also love that they start you out with complimentary soup. Service: 5/5. There were waiters and waitresses circulating the restaurant to make sure everyone had what they needed. The food came out very quickly and our waitress was very attentive. Ambiance: 4/5. This place is definitely cozy. If you're wanting to have a private conversation, this is not your place. I loved the patio, especially for mid-October in Minnesota, it was a treat to be able to comfortably sit outside. There's a tiny lot, street parking can be a little hard to find. It gets busy quick, we arrived close to 6pm and the place was mostly full. We didn't have to wait for an outdoor table for two, had we arrived slightly later than we would have. We tried the golden salmon, Momo and Snow White roll, and a variety of sushi. The Snow White roll had coconut mayo and flakes, this I haven't seen anywhere. The coconut wasn't overpowering, the roll was light and subtle, really nice bite. There was a bit too much rice in the sushi pieces, but the fish was fresh. It's a lively spot, bustling within the restaurant. The table next to us was on a double date, and totally obnoxious as hell, almost screaming their conversation. At one point their empty beer bottle was flung and hit the back of my chair. I picked it up and tried to hand it back but they told me they couldn't be bothered at the moment cause one person was removing another's splinter at their table...no apology or "thank you" for picking it up. Not the restaurants fault, just sharing in hopes others won't be like these assholes. I stopped by Momo Sushi for a quick dinner and upon arriving, there was a short 10-minute wait. For those that haven't visited, this restaurant is rather small. They have an outdoor patio covered, uncovered, and indoor seating. We opted for indoors as it was going to rain. Pros: 1. The chicken fried rice was one of the BEST chicken fried rice I've ever had! It was so flavorful and the rice was cooked perfectly. 2. The sushi was very flavorful and plentiful! You definitely get your money's worth. 3. From the time we ordered to when our food was delivered, it was very quick! The fried rice took a little longer but the restaurant was busy so not a huge problem. 4. They gave complimentary miso soup, which was delicious! Cons: 1. The a/c was lacking. It was hot outside but it seemed like their a/c just couldn't keep up with the high temps and humidity. So, not ideal to eat hot fried rice and soup while being overheated from the heat and humidity. 2. I wouldn't order the seaweed salad --- it lacked flavor. It really needed a vinaigrette or light soy dressing, so I opted for some soy sauce that was on the table, which made it slightly better. DECOR: The first thing I noticed about Momo is the restaurant is small with lots of wood throughout and a warm, intimate, hipster type of vibe. They were 100% on top of everything. FOOD: The food was very good. I stuck with my usual tuna based sushi rolls. And my dinner guest ordered a couple of sushi rolls. We both received a complimentary bowl fish soup as a starter, which is a nice touch. All of our food seemed fresh and it was bursting with wonderful flavors. Of course, as usual, I rinsed everything down with some hot green tea. LOW CARBOHYDRATE: It was easy to eat low-carb, keto, carnivore style at Momo. They have several animal based, low-carb appetizers. And I stuck with my usual tuna based sushi rolls which have a modest amount of plant material. Visited with my sister-no reservation needed/available although the patio was popping so we sat inside. Street parking was available in nearby neighborhood for free. My sister got the Buddha and AAC rolls, we split the shrimp tempura roll, and I got the spicy salmon roll and the spicy girl roll. We also both got a side of fried rice: Highlights: definitely the specialty rolls! So beyond worth it. Both the Buddha roll and the spicy girl roll were our favorites. The other rolls were solid but these were the rolls which shined most. The fried rice was also a good option-very sizable portion for a side so we ended up both getting to go boxes. It's a weekend so we expected it to be fairly busy, especially with the sun being out too. We were able to grab a seat pretty quickly, and decided to go with the greenhouse outside. The waitress only came to our table twice: first time to take our order & the second time to give us our check. Honestly, I would have been fine with it because I don't like it when people hover. However, we watched her check up on the table in front of us four separate occasions: to take their order, fill up their water glasses, check-in on how they liked their food, and to give them the check. Meanwhile, we sat for 20 minutes waiting for food to arrive and ended up being left with empty glasses. There is a large menu with lots to choose from (great for people with various intolerances) and the service was excellent. Street parking in nearby residential areas. Plan to walk a bit but it's not too hard to find a spot. I eat sushi quite a bit and I always forget which rolls I order. In general these rolls are always crispy and delicious. They're perfectly rolled and bite sized. Two specialty rolls, sake, and the miso soup it comes with was just enough food for the two of us to not feel overly stuffed. I did order two rolls for takeout with a friend once and they found it to not be enough, but everyone has their preference. The service was kind and I didn't notice an extended wait time. Love the prices, I agree with another reviewer that said it is not the highest quality sushi. The chicken fried rice was amazing and large enough to share with 3 people and leftovers. I had the saki flight which was fun and tasty. We ordered the fried ice cream and green tea mochi for dessert. My adult kids enjoyed it, they enjoyed the whole experience. The ambiance is quaint and the servers work together. The service was spot on, waters always full. I will definitely go back, next time I would do a lo mein or hibachi instead of sushi because I am picky. The kids liked their sushi as well. read more
