The food literally left me speechless. I absolutely get the hype. I went on a Tuesday with no reservation but was able to get squeezed in. Giving it 3 stars because it was my first time going to Billy Sushi and my server was super snarky?? Did not enjoy my service at all. The food was amazing. Probably won't go back.

Very good quality food and service. High end prices but it's downtown. Expect to pay more than average. Nice vibes. I'd recommend them.

Everything you've heard is true. Billy is a vibe and offers the best tuna in the twin cities. Get on the waitlist, grab a friend or two, and go enjoy this north loop gem now.

Had a great experience at Billy as usual. We ordered a flight of nigiri and 2 sushi rolls- the silly billy and number 9. The nigiri was definitely pricey at $69, and although it was definitely delicious and fresh, for that price it was probably just a one time order! The nigiri and sushi rolls came out at different times, and it would have been great to enjoy them together. Our server was friendly and gave us recommendations. The ambiance was of course, packed on a Saturday night. Definitely make reservations at least a couple of weeks ahead if you want prime weekend times. We were a bit late and they still accomodated us. Love this place!

The best sushi in America! Most certainly the best in Twin-Cities! 1. Reservation: a must, they are very busy and packed! 2. Food: Amazing! Sushi rolls, sashimi.. the whole selection is amazing. fresh and creative take on all rolls they have 3. Drinks: quite a few cocktails to choose from. They have one of the best whiskeys and sake selection in town. Try those too! 4. Service: professional, swift and courteous. 5. Overall atmosphere is lively, quite loud and happy! All in all, you gotta be here to know how great it is!

Billy Sushi will change your life. It might be better you don't go there. The sushi here is so FRESH, UNIQUE, and INNOVATIVE, and well, tasty. And now I always want to go back to Billy Sushi every chance I can. I day dream about the savory roll options and sashimi. I've always had a great experience with every server. The ambiance is just a tad packed, but still worth it for the food!

Outstanding service, sushi and smiles! Gorgeous setting for restaurant seating and the separate sushi bar. Wish I could go once a week. So popular, get reservations ahead of time. The photos speak for themselves, with my favorite being yellowtail with jalapeños starter.

A random Friday, driven by a sudden craving for salmon, led me to wander into Billy Sushi. I was seated right away at the bar, perfectly balanced between couples and fellow solo diners, an ideal setup for the evening. I was immediately drawn to the striking wall of Japanese whisky. Mitch, the bartender, was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and friendly. With his guidance, I started with their Old Fashion made with Japanese whisky and bitters, then followed it with a pour of Ichiro whisky. As Mitch explained, its subtle caramel finish is rare for Japanese whisky, and I absolutely loved it. I had only planned to try a couple of salmon dishes, but the food was so good that I ended up indulging far more than expected. The salmon carpaccio caught my eye first and completely delivered. The Squid Game was outstanding -- crispy on the outside, soft and tender inside, and packed with flavor. And even though I was stuffed, I had to order sashimi to test the freshness and quality of their fish. Five out of five. On top of the great food, I met three other solo diners, including Lawrence Gilliard Jr., who's currently touring with the Purple Rain musical, fresh off their opening night a couple of days ago. What an unexpected spark to the evening! If you're in the Twin Cities and looking for excellent food paired with a solo-friendly bar, counter seating, and easy conversation, Billy Sushi is absolutely worth the stop.

This was a fabulous introduction to the food scene here in Minneapolis. My niece and I stopped by for dinner. The server we had was very kind, helpful and knowledgeable of the menu. I ordered the Swipe Right roll, Fancy and Furious roll, and the Opulent nigiri. I was pleased to learn that all were very fish forward. The fish used was all great quality and fresh. The restaurant itself has a semi-casual vibe which would make it a great stop for a midweek dinner or date night. Overall, if you're in the area and truly enjoy quality sushi, this is the place for you.

While traveling to Minneapolis this week I overheard someone giving a recommendation for Bill Sushi. I gave it a try. The restaurant is very nondescript and easy to miss from the street unless you know its there. Inside, there is a very modern Japanese vibe with great bars and seating. I was greeted immediately and seated at the bar (no reservation). Service was excellent and the food delicious. The starter of Salmon Carpaccio was perfectly paired with the seaweed salad - i enjoyed every bite. The sushi portions were generous and super tasty. I'm torn with trying something new next visit or ordering the same meal again, it was so good. I'm going to make this place a habit!

There's was a opening at 5:45 so I had 10min to arrive, otherwise the next rsvp was at 8pm Got sat in front of the sushi chef bar area, which is my favorite spot especially on a date night (his first time there). Had chef specials Blue fin in bedded with UNI top off w/ black tobiko with some ponzu sauce. and Kampachi sashimi For the main course We shared the 8 pieces of Nigiri's

Billy Sushi is a great place for sushi made with high quality ingredients. It's trendy inside but the music was a little loud. The Cuz I Like You cocktail was well balanced, and the Ride or Die cocktail was bright and on the acidic side. The Beef Kushi Yaki was tender but I wanted a little more smoky flavor. The star of the meal was the Miso Cod -- so buttery and flavorful. Definitely get that with a side of rice to help cut the fat and soak up all the sauce. The second best bite was the O-toro nigiri which melted in my mouth. My favorite sushi roll was the George Clooney -- the fatty tuna definitely carried this roll. The spice level was very mild. The Love Island roll was fun with the blue masago. My least favorite dish that I tried was the BAD & Boujee roll. The texture was too mushy for my liking. They do not serve dessert.

THE BIG: Located in the warehouse district of downtown Minneapolis. Decently sized restaurant that extends back. Beautiful interior decor all around. Street parking available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here with a couple of friends on a business trip and this place is PACKED. Fortunately we were able to snag the backroom which looks like a karaoke room but sat all of us comfortably. This is one of the few restaurants in the US that serves tuna cheek. It was massive and delicious. The sushi that we ordered was served in the boat, which is always a spectacle when shown. I think a few favorite was the silly billy, naughty ninja, and nigiri flights. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall, the damage done was pretty high, but it was with a couple of friends sharing everything which helped ease out the cost. Definitely will be back to try out some more sushi.

There is a great variety of rolls so everyone is going to be pleased with the meal. The restaurant itself is tight on space but the dining experience makes up for it. I recommend you beat the dinner rush and go early when they reopen for the evening. Warning, it does get really busy almost everyday because it is just that good! Location-wise it is great because if you struggle to find parking in the small lot next to the spot, you can park on a residential street behind the restaurant and take a short stroll. I'm curious as to what the takeout experience is, I haven't had the chance to order, I would rather dine in the restaurant.

Both taste good but overpriced for the amount of drink you get. Especially for the Royal, $12 for a small milk tea you is egregious. Even for the Kosho, you get 4 tablespoons worth of juice in a huge wine glass. I'm not a wine lover so I can't really say I enjoyed the Akai drink but if that's part of your palate all I can say is that it tastes like red wine - Service was stellar, they're quick on taking orders and replacing plates/culinary. It's only $10 + tip for the valet and street parking around here is very stressful and the ramps around here cost just as much if not more. From the time we arrived staff were kind, and our server was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The interior of this restaurant was also gorgeous, simple, refined and minimalist. The menu can be a bit hard to navigate since so many menu options are unique but the server expertly guided us through. We ordered the Maitake Karaage, Duck Tataki, Mentaiko Lumache, chicken thigh yakitori, and a wagyu yakitori. Likes Vs Dislikes: LIKE the Maitake Karaage - this was the best dish of the evening. Fried mushrooms with scallion mayo, gave the texture and flavor of fried calamari but it's actually mushroom. LIKE the Mentaiko Lumache - this pasta was incredible. Perfectly al dente noodles with a unique almost cup shape that gave a nice bite of noodle and sauce together. The sauce was delicious! Dislike the yakitori - felt like there was little to no value here. You pay $7 per skewer which contains barely 3 bites of chicken. It was pretty average tasting too. Wouldn't waste the money. Like and dislike the Duck Tataki - delicious in flavor, nice and fatty, ponzu and mango added a great flavor. Disliked that for $22 you get hardly 4-5 bites of duck. Tiny tiny skinny bites mind you. Felt like the value wasn't there for this fish given how good it actually tasted. I'd look elsewhere on the menu. Overall, given what we liked, the ambience and staff, I am giving this a 5/5. If money isn't a factor then come here and go crazy, but if value matters then stray away from the yakitori and Duck Tataki, just my 2 cents.

Recently, I started coming for the food dinner and realized I was missing a lot. Their menu is very thoughtful in each dish has a nice variety of textures and flavors. I will say that their Ramen is one of the best in town. I think really what sets it apart is the broth being super in depth and they grill the pork belly which makes it really smoky and tender. This time I branched out and got the grilled squid as well and it was exceptional. The soy ginger glaze on it was incredible. The only few downsides I think I've noticed is service can be a little bit hit or miss which is surprising how small the places. Even when sitting at the bar, it took a little bit to get their attention. Also, I've tried a few of the cocktails and for the main part they just taste like alcohol with a soda. They sound extremely creative on the menu, but the balance isn't there. Either way I've typically gotten sake as they have a nice little selection. Overall, I love the whole vibe of this place. The rice was unfortunately undercooked, and also too lightly seasoned. The tamago was alright, the futomaki was very good though. Dessert: The yuzu custard - one of my favorite desserts I've eaten in a long time. Definitely the best thing we had and I would absolutely get it again. Service: Our service was pretty good. Shrimp tempura and spicy tuna, topped with spicy crab and eel sauce, all wrapped in a gorgeous pink soybean wrapper. This was hands-down our favorite... bold, flavorful, and just the right amount of heat. The Twin Cities roll was a very close second. Served warm with a tempura coating, it was packed with spicy crab, tuna, and avocado, then finished with eel and spicy sauces and green onion. Rich, crispy, and deeply satisfying. We also tried the Kickboxer roll, loaded with spicy crab and tempura shrimp, topped with a sweet-spicy sauce and Sriracha for an extra kick. And because we couldn't resist, we ended with the seafood ramen. The broth was creamy and comforting, with two large scallops, a perfectly cooked shrimp, half a soft-boiled egg, plus noodles, sprouts, and bok choy. It felt like a warm hug in a bowl.
