Fantastic local neighborhood restaurant! Each bite was full of so much flavor, the menu can be hard to understand if you've not been here before, but they are very helpful at me through it.

Overall well done neighborhood Japanese restaurant that stays true to Japanese vs Japanese American food.

Great place - don't miss it. Dine inside or out. On street parking was easily available. We both ordered the Onigiri Combo Meal and I strongly recommend it. Pick any 3 onigiri (some have a slight upcharge). The soup and salad are very good too. It was hard to choose our Onigiri as there are several options. My husband loves Spam and really enjoyed that one. The fried chicken was a fun one too. Plus we tried several seafood options. The Onigiri are pretty large so this makes a budget friendly meal.

A pretty trendy space that sells an assortment of Japanese food, drinks (including alcoholic), and desserts. The music inside was pretty loud, but chill if you like emo, and the staff were super friendly. You order at the register and they'll give you a number if you eat in. Water and utensils were at a station near the door. The food didn't come out super fast, but I felt the wait was reasonable. Orders: Tori Karaage (3 pc): Each piece of chicken was about the size of my palm. The chicken was moist and had a nice crispy outside. Served on a bed of greens with a sauce that kind of reminded me of a miso salad dressing (?). Regardless, it was good. Next time, I'll definitely be ordering this with a side of white rice to cut a bit of the saltiness, but it was still good on its own. Ume Onigiri: I love umeboshi, which is a sour pickled plum. This one was great. The rice was also salted well, and the nori was thin and crispy. I will say the ume is definitely not a taste for everyone. I have quite a few friends who dislike ume in general, so just be aware it's a different kind of flavor, haha. Overall, I'd definitely come back to try more things on their menu. I'm a fan~

I think the establishment's strength is onigiri because they not only have a variety of different toppings, but also have reasonable prices that would allow economical planning. Since it is located in a residential area, I can see how people who live around South Minneapolis can easily visit for a quick bite. As much as the onigiri had good flavor, I felt like other dishes were more mediocre. For example, the Buta Don had pork that texturally didn't go well with the rice because it wasn't a part of the pig that was the most tender or succulent. The chicken karaage had too much creamy sauce and the chicken itself didn't have as much flavor, as much as it was juicy. I would recommend visitors to capitalize on its onigiri supplies for the most part. A positive aspect I would mention was that I found the sakeru gummy and nagai sakeru gummy (long long man) in the store, and I instantly got it and made a video of myself tearing up the candy. I loved that for sure.

Great location in the Hiawatha neighborhood. There's plenty of free street parking nearby as well. The patio they have is perfect for a nice sunny summer/fall day. They even have a water bowl for doggies, which is considerate. This is a casual order at the counter/self service restaurant so it's perfect for those days you want a 'healthier' alternative from fast food restaurants. We ordered the salmon poke combo meal the beef udon. The combo meal came with a ongiri aka a rice ball of your choice and I got the perilla leaf one and was expecting it to be a whole leaf vs tiny little pieces, which made it difficult to taste the flavor. The beef udon was okay, the noodles were too soft to my liking and the broth was lacking depth. It was nice to finally try this place but I don't know if I would go back often. The food was a bit of a miss for me.

Okome House is one of the best Japanese restaurants in the entire Twin Cities. This place is somewhat unique in that, unlike many other Japanese eateries that specialize in Sushi or Ramen, Okome house has a very unique menu that specializes in onigiri, with dozens of flavors. You can also opt for an udon or donburi (rice bowl) dish, but onigri is where Okome house really shines. The best deal here is the "onigiri combo," which comes with three onigiri of your choice and two sides (I highly recommend the wakame salad and the curry). Everything I've tried here is amazing, and my young daughter loves it too. The vast majority of their dishes are also dairy-free. They have a small selection of beer and sake, and even have a happy hour every day with great deals on drinks. The inside is cute, and when the weather is nice, the outdoor patio is amazing. Service is usually fairly quick.

The food was great! It was fresh and very tasty. The service was friendly and efficient. However, I downgraded it a star because the restaurant was understaffed. They frequently didn't have enough water or glasses at the filling station and the dishes were not bussed frequently, so the stack of dishes got huge. The atmosphere was cute and welcoming.

This place is cute, neighborhood restaurant. We went in the evening and the place just shined. I'm a fan of hand rolls and wanted to try the onigiri. The restaurant looked busy but people were in line to pick up their togo orders. We were seated in the back. They offered wine, beer, and sake.

Super cute vibes and good energy. Staff all seemed really chill and everyone I interacted with was nice. Went on a Wednesday night and there were quite a few people so I think it's a popular neighborhood spot. Got the spam onigiri (which I took a bite then remembered to take a photo, whoops) and also the tori don - both were yummy. Next time I want to try more of the onigiri options. There's lots of different things to try on the menu including a fun drink menu and lots of good-sounding desserts. Also the patio is nice for when the weather's nice! Will definitely be back!

Cool little place nestled into the neighborhood here. Bright and surprisingly spacious inside, with a few tables for outdoor seating. It was very clean inside and tables got bussed pretty quickly from what I saw. Staff were super friendly as we ordered at the counter and when bringing our food. Me and my partner both got the shrimp tempura udon with karaage onigiri and seaweed salad. All were delicious. The noodles were a great texture and exactly what I wanted. The broth was good, too -- I found myself sipping on it for a while after everything else was done, which is unusual for me. The tempura was the real standout for me -- the flavor was fantastic and the fry technique on point. The onigiri was tasty and well-assembled, but to my surprise the seaweed stole the show. A little tangy, bright, and refreshing. Overall we had a great time, were in and out very quickly, and definitely plan to come back again.

From the moment we arrived, the valet parking made everything easy (though I recommend taking an Uber if you're doing the wine pairing... you'll definitely want to savor every sip). We went for the Matsu omakase, and wow -- every course was a work of art. The freshly grated wasabi, the thoughtful pacing, and watching each dish come to life at the sushi bar turned dinner into a full sensory experience. Chef Shiga was an incredible host -- friendly, engaging, and clearly passionate about his craft. And to top it all off, we had the pleasure of meeting Owner-Chef Shigeyuki Furukawa at the end of our meal -- such a gracious and humble culinary genius! My wife and I left absolutely blown away and already planning our next visit. Perfect for a date night, a special celebration, or simply treating yourself to something unforgettable. This place has officially earned a spot on our favorites list!

Recently, I started coming for the food dinner and realized I was missing a lot. Their menu is very thoughtful in each dish has a nice variety of textures and flavors. I will say that their Ramen is one of the best in town. I think really what sets it apart is the broth being super in depth and they grill the pork belly which makes it really smoky and tender. This time I branched out and got the grilled squid as well and it was exceptional. The soy ginger glaze on it was incredible. The only few downsides I think I've noticed is service can be a little bit hit or miss which is surprising how small the places. Even when sitting at the bar, it took a little bit to get their attention. Also, I've tried a few of the cocktails and for the main part they just taste like alcohol with a soda. They sound extremely creative on the menu, but the balance isn't there. Either way I've typically gotten sake as they have a nice little selection. Overall, I love the whole vibe of this place. The rice was unfortunately undercooked, and also too lightly seasoned. The tamago was alright, the futomaki was very good though. Dessert: The yuzu custard - one of my favorite desserts I've eaten in a long time. Definitely the best thing we had and I would absolutely get it again. Service: Our service was pretty good.
