ok this place is great and deserves a visit and return trips. highly recommend going earlier in the evening, sitting at the bar, ordering whatever your sushi loving heart desires, and also trusting that the chef chosen assortments will deliver. they sure did for us! thanks to the latter i learned i also love mackerel!

Miso Soup To Go

Starving after a long day flying I decided to Kiku takeout and/or delivery. I was excited to see how much thought they behind the packaging. First of all it's always a blessing when either your Uber eats or the restaurant puts in utensils. If you looking for chopstick you will have to request from the restaurant or driver. The to go order had a small piece of cardboard box right above the Pad Thai. It's small steps like this keep the food hot as if you're getting it right off the pan! The order consisted of Miso Soup, Edamame, and Pad Thai. The Vegetables in the Pad Thai, tasted like water. I'm assuming it's probably because they have their vegetables soaking in water for storage and refrigeration (common for restaurants to do). It was 56 minutes prior to close so I'm assuming the kitchen probably was in a hurry to close out. More than likely just grabbed out the veggies and threw them in the pan not allowing the excess water to be removed. Even sautéeing the veggies in first to really soak up in the sauce may have helped. The edamame was slightly under cooked which makes it tough to get the soybeans out. Maybe this is a restaurant is best experienced as a sit down spot and I recommend favoring their Japanese offerings not Thai.

I come here pretty often for sushi. If you've never had sushi before and want to try some, this is a great place to start. Any roll with shrimp tempura will be very tasty. They provide consistent service that is friendly. Last time I went, I ordered the California ranch roll, giozas and lo mein. Their California ranch roll is very tasty, definitely a safe choice if you're not into traditional sushi. The giozas are good. Crispy on the bottom, very soft on the top. The filling is flavorful. I wasn't impressed with the lo mein. I was expecting a soft thicker noodle and instead got what looks like a very thin chow main noodle. Overall if you want sushi in uptown, this is a good spot that's open late. They also do online QR code ordering inside. Parking is tough, side street parking will be your best bet during peak lunch/dinner times otherwise there might be parking on Hennepin. The vibe inside is chill, there is no dress code or any dress requirements. I've come in sweatpants and have also dressed up to come. They're never super busy so you'll probably always find a table and reservations are not necessary.

Yummm! This place hit the spot after we did a wine tasting next door. We were walking by and just thought we would give it a try and we are so glad we did! We sat at the bar and the waiter was very helpful with recommendations for sushi! We tried the Bliss roll which was so so good. Highly recommended that roll. We also trying one more roll which I unfortunately for got the name but the presentation was very pretty! The menu had many options to choose from. After we were done someone said next time we come back to get the edamame! We will return for more sushi in the future.

We sat at the bar and asked the bartender for recommendations on sushi rools. We ordered a couple of rolls and the bliss roll was our favorite. We would definitely go back again for sushi.

I'm always on the hunt for a good happy hour, and Kiku did not disappoint! My partner and I recently visited on a weeknight and were excited to learn that happy hour goes until 7pm! We got an excellent meal and drinks for a very reasonable price. We are excited to return to try other menu items! The sushi was fresh, and service was fast. I appreciated the variety and creativity of the menu. We were some of the only customers there, so we got a table immediately without a reservation. The booths felt very private. The parking seems like it'd be tricky on weekends. We were lucky to get a metered street spot right across from the restaurant.

If you're looking for a good sushi joint in the uptown area, you gotta check out Kiku Bistro. I've ordered online for delivery many times but decided to venture into the restaurant this time. There's street parking right out front which is super convenient, you just have to pay via the MPLS Parking app. The ambiance was relaxed with low lighting. We were seated next to the sushi bar. Instead of physical menus and a server to take our order, we had to scan a QR code to view the menu and use that same website to order our food & drinks. I could see how this is more convenient and allows the guest to order more without waiting for a server to stop back at your table. But it was a bit confusing as a first time user of this website, especially when checking out and splitting the bill. That said, the interaction we had with the staff was positive! Everyone was very friendly and the food came out super fast! I also liked their unique selection of cocktails. I tried their old fashioned, but it came with rum, and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I'll definitely be coming back to dine in at Kiku soon!!!

Take out of Fried Rice, Beef W/ Broccoli, California Ranch Roll, Lake Roll, Goofee Roll

We used the delivery feature and our food came hot in 30 min from ordering! We were very impressed. We have been going to Kiku for years and the take out is just as good as dining in. A staple for us is the fried rice that comes with a delicious yum yum sauce. The beef and broccoli is another popular one for us. Our favorite sushi is the California ranch roll which is lightly deep fried. This time we also tried the Lake roll and Goofee roll. Both were good but did have quite a lot of rice. When we have eaten inside, are is ample seating including booths, and outdoor street seating in the summer. The parking in uptown can be difficult and busy.

Kiku Bistro is one of my most frequented restaurants over the years. I've loved it since it was Mount Fuji. I usually order sushi and have some go-to specialty rolls that I can't live without. While it is not the fanciest or best restaurant in town, they have always been laid back and reliable. They have happy hour on sushi for goodness' sake! When other sushi places have hour waits, Kiku was always there with better prices and no waiting! Today was the first time we ordered to go (because of Covid). We ordered a Green Tea specialty roll, red snapper nigiri, pad Thai, and egg rolls. I will admit takeaway sushi just isn't the same. My roll fell apart a little bit getting it out of the box, and the rice just didn't taste as fresh. The pad Thai was a bit spicy for me, but my boyfriend loved it. I can't wait for them to open the dining room back up. I'm sad to see some of the negative reviews on here, because Kiku Bistro really has a special place in my heart.

This sashimi is FRESH!!! Every sushi roll we ordered was delicious! Definitely coming back here again The staff was super nice and friendly. We ended up getting two sake flights and they even took the time to explain to us a bit of each sake. Check it out!

This was my first time here. I went because a friend really likes thier happy hour. We went. The drinks were STRONG! Whats not to love about that. The rolls were delicious. And the fried rice had me eating so much I got sick.....so yum. Will definitely go back.

Sushi Sashimi Combo

We have ordered takeout a couple times from Kiku and have never been disappointed. Love the Uptown roll- a roll with tuna, salmon, avocado, crunch and no rice. Spring festival roll is also delicious, but the mango salsa on the roll did seep through our bag when we received. Otherwise, i think the best value is in the sushi sashimi combo.

The menu is limited. We got the Mapo tofu mazemen, which is this brothless ramen with a Mapo tofu blend, mushrooms, eggplant, tofu, and doubanjian blended together. I wish we could see some of the distinct ingredients alone besides the tofu as it was a bit too blended for me. I liked how unique this ramen was!! The chicken karaage basket had the most addicting trio of sauces - yuzu mayo, nori ranch; and honey mustard. The yuzu mayo was so light and citrusy, and I could practically drink the nori ranch. The fries were shoestring and perfectly crispy. The issue lies in the chicken karaage - it almost felt burnt, and it was quite dry inside. The chicken age gyoza were yummy. I did love the crispness and the tangy kamikaze dipping sauce! Service is efficient!

My group made sure to have a reservation anticipating that there would be lots of people and thank goodness we did. Those that went as walk ins had a wait time of 90+ minutes. We got an order of NHK (spicy chicken karage) and it was the perfect appetizer to gear us up for our entree. The Tonkotsu Ramen was so rich and fulfilling, the broth had an incredible umami flavor to it and the noodles had the perfect texture to it. The staff were all so friendly and attentive to what our needs were. I want to congratulate the staff at Zen Box Izakaya for an incredible 20 year run, we'll miss them greatly

From the moment we arrived, the valet parking made everything easy (though I recommend taking an Uber if you're doing the wine pairing... you'll definitely want to savor every sip). We went for the Matsu omakase, and wow -- every course was a work of art. Chef Shiga was an incredible host -- friendly, engaging, and clearly passionate about his craft. And to top it all off, we had the pleasure of meeting Owner-Chef Shigeyuki Furukawa at the end of our meal -- such a gracious and humble culinary genius! Momo Sushi is my favorite sushi in Minneapolis. Everytime I get asked for a sushi spot…read morerecommendation, I always say Momo. The rolls are huge and packed with incredible combinations. There is a great variety of rolls so everyone is going to be pleased with the meal. The restaurant itself is tight on space but the dining experience makes up for it. Location-wise it is great because if you struggle to find parking in the small lot next to the spot, you can park on a residential street behind the restaurant and take a short stroll. I am SO torn on this review. Here's the breakdown:…read more Menu: Their menu options are so awesome. Authentic Japanese food, tons of options, and lots of fun stuff. Drinks: The Last Samurai cocktail & the Imposter Among Us mocktail were both delightful. Love the unique drink options, and the two we had were executed beautifully. Sushi: Unfortunately, the sushi was a bit disappointing. We had the hotate yuzu, Suzuki oshizushi, tamago nigiri, and the futomaki. The rice was unfortunately undercooked, and also too lightly seasoned. The tamago was alright, the futomaki was very good though. Dessert: The yuzu custard - one of my favorite desserts I've eaten in a long time. Definitely the best thing we had and I would absolutely get it again. Service: Our service was pretty good. I did watch one of the other servers grab soup spoons by the part you eat from and then bring them to a table which was concerning. Note: For anyone with dietary specifications: they offered gluten free soy sauce, and the custard was a vegan dessert and it was delightful.

The ambiance is a bit odd and disjointed but we kind of loved it as it keeps the "hole in the wall" feeling. Our server was fantastic - we weren't sure how hungry we were so we just ordered rolls, nagiri, and onigiri as the dinner rolled on with no real objective other than than walking away full - and he just rolled with us as we went. The sake flight was great with some generous pours but I was disappointed in the mocktails. The rolls were delicious, albeit a bit basic. The onigiri was great and I was a huge fan of the salmon but the tuna just wasn't hitting for me. We were in the mood for sushi so we didn't stray too far on the menu but we'll definitely be back for the hot dogs and a broader spread which I think will help boost this spot to five stars for me. Thanks for the fun meal!
