The good first: it's a great price, the line moves quickly despite how long it can get at lunch time (though you may have to wait a few minutes to pick up your order), and they have a varied menu of sushi and curry (with vegetarian options). The reason it only gets 3 stars: I don't think the sushi is very good, and the lunch bowl (which you can get with extra fish for just a few dollars extra) isn't super flavorful. Either the fish and rice need to be better, or it needs a sauce that isn't soy (too salty, no chance of tasting anything). There is extremely limited seating in this skyway location, and if you do choose to eat in there, everyone waiting on line will be standing on top of you. Definitely more of a take-away place, at least during the lunchtime crush.

Lunch hour was very fast service. There isn't really much dine in option. I got a miso soup and a bowl. The bowl was at best mediocre but was very affordable. The miso soup wasn't anything to write home about, but overall the speed of service and the price is what drove up my rating.

This place is located on the second floor of the Baker Center. They are very efficient and fast and the prices are extremely affordable. I ordered the sushi bowl and a shrimp tempura roll and a miso soup all for less than $19. The food tastes very good as well.

Loved going here for lunch. I'd kinda given up hope on good lunch spots in the downtown area since the pandemic. But finding this place was a happy surprise. It's located in the baker center. I went for lunch and there was along line but they moved us through pretty fast! Great service. Easy menu. And amazing prices too! I got a sushi bowl and Miso. The miso is 75cents with a sushi bowl order. If you get the sushi bowl but don't want the raw fish. They will sub it out for you! I t was really yummy and the perfect lunch potion. Will be back for sure. They have so many other options!

I ordered the lunch special which is a sushi bowl with spicy tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, spicy mayo, and tempura flakes. The flavor was great and it was a great deal for $8.95. Would recommend to anyone craving some sushi for lunch!

Cheap and yummy! Stopped here for a quick lunch and got the lunch special which is the bowl. Comes with salmon, tuna, and yellowtail with avocado, tempura crispies, spicy Mayo, and rice - and a side of miso soup! Came with ginger and wasabi and soy sauce on the side. Costs under $9 and is worth it! It was filling and yummy. Fish wasn't the highest quality but still yummy. The service was also fast!

My very first first meal in Minnesota! Yuuuum! Amazing sushi bowls. Extremely tasty. The people working here are extremely sweet and willing to go above and beyond for a quick service! Clean restaurant too! To find this restaurant you have to go onside the building***

After visiting the MIA, we were starving and looking for food nearby, I found this spot. We both got the Combo A. The rolls are freshly made to order. The wasabi is just right and you get plenty of it. We got a total of 32 pieces (two combos) for $26 and some change.I will go back next time I am in town!

Stopped by for lunch when I was working downtown. Usually there's a long line closer to noon but we got there a little early and was able to get our order in. I got the lunch special sushi bowl, it's a great deal and was good. I also got a shrimp tempura udon and I enjoyed that as well. The prices were very reasonable for sushi and udon. The staff was very friendly and the orders moved fast. There is little seating so you might be out of luck if you come here during a rush and looking to dine in. I would come here again for affordable sushi!

Solid lunch special for $8.95 (Oct 2022 prices) and you can add a miso soup for $0.75. Delicious sushi bowl of mixed fish and spicy mayo and avocado Conveniently located inside so easy to get to from the gerbil tubes without having to brave the cold. Takeout only so meant for workers to eat it back at their desks.

I understand why this spot is so popular for lunch. I arrived at around 11:30 and there was a consistent line out the door the entire time I was there. They have a few chairs there to eat at, which I did, but most customers took it to go. Delicious, affordable and filling! I got the curry udon which came with chicken karaage and I couldn't even finish the whole bowl. Was so delicious and a hefty serving for only $8! Flavorful with perfectly chewy noodles and seaweed/scallion garnishes. Will definitely be back!

There is a great variety of rolls so everyone is going to be pleased with the meal. The restaurant itself is tight on space but the dining experience makes up for it. I recommend you beat the dinner rush and go early when they reopen for the evening. Warning, it does get really busy almost everyday because it is just that good! Location-wise it is great because if you struggle to find parking in the small lot next to the spot, you can park on a residential street behind the restaurant and take a short stroll. I'm curious as to what the takeout experience is, I haven't had the chance to order, I would rather dine in the restaurant.

We had the salmon carpaccio which was the highlight of the meal. It was similar to a sashimi but was doused in a delicious sauce. We then had the squid game which has a much smokier flavor than expected - it almost had an essence of teriyaki and was probably our least favorite though not bad. We went with two rolls: the 2-14 and the Mishap. Both were absolutely delicious. We were ready to order more but our waiter was nowhere to be found. We waited several minutes and then decided to just get the check instead. We recently moved from a place known for its sushi so we found the quality of fish here to be good - but not outstanding and would echo the sentiment that prices are pretty astronomical. The vibe of the place was cool and the dishes were good but the price and service definitely cost it a star. We walked because parking in the area did look pretty tough!

3-Star Michelin Vibes -- Without the Flight to Tokyo!…read more Having dined at Jiro in Tokyo, I can confidently say this spot rivals that world-class experience -- with a warmer touch and a staff that speaks perfect English! From the moment we arrived, the valet parking made everything easy (though I recommend taking an Uber if you're doing the wine pairing... you'll definitely want to savor every sip). We went for the Matsu omakase, and wow -- every course was a work of art. The freshly grated wasabi, the thoughtful pacing, and watching each dish come to life at the sushi bar turned dinner into a full sensory experience. Chef Shiga was an incredible host -- friendly, engaging, and clearly passionate about his craft. And to top it all off, we had the pleasure of meeting Owner-Chef Shigeyuki Furukawa at the end of our meal -- such a gracious and humble culinary genius! My wife and I left absolutely blown away and already planning our next visit. Perfect for a date night, a special celebration, or simply treating yourself to something unforgettable. A perfected blend of Italian and Japanese culture in one bowl. It consists of a black unique pasta noodle that is easy to eat, strung along with orange clumps of flavor - Mentaiko lumanche pasta was okay, my sister really liked it - The brick-oven Margarita pizza was good, very nice dough texture but the portion could be bigger - Maitake karaage had a good crisp, chewy texture paired with a decent sauce and refreshing seaweed - Gyoza had a neat appearance but nothing special taste-wise, same with the mushroom - I tried their non-alcoholic drinks- Kosho, Royal and Akai Senshi. Both taste good but overpriced for the amount of drink you get. Especially for the Royal, $12 for a small milk tea you is egregious. Even for the Kosho, you get 4 tablespoons worth of juice in a huge wine glass. I'm not a wine lover so I can't really say I enjoyed the Akai drink but if that's part of your palate all I can say is that it tastes like red wine - Service was stellar, they're quick on taking orders and replacing plates/culinary. Staff are all friendly - Interior can be a bit loud and cramped. The narrow hallway design forces the noises of the kitchen and other patrons to condense. It's only $10 + tip for the valet and street parking around here is very stressful and the ramps around here cost just as much if not more. From the time we arrived staff were kind, and our server was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The interior of this restaurant was also gorgeous, simple, refined and minimalist. The menu can be a bit hard to navigate since so many menu options are unique but the server expertly guided us through. We ordered the Maitake Karaage, Duck Tataki, Mentaiko Lumache, chicken thigh yakitori, and a wagyu yakitori. Likes Vs Dislikes: LIKE the Maitake Karaage - this was the best dish of the evening. Fried mushrooms with scallion mayo, gave the texture and flavor of fried calamari but it's actually mushroom. LIKE the Mentaiko Lumache - this pasta was incredible. Perfectly al dente noodles with a unique almost cup shape that gave a nice bite of noodle and sauce together. The sauce was delicious! Dislike the yakitori - felt like there was little to no value here. You pay $7 per skewer which contains barely 3 bites of chicken. It was pretty average tasting too. Wouldn't waste the money. Like and dislike the Duck Tataki - delicious in flavor, nice and fatty, ponzu and mango added a great flavor. Disliked that for $22 you get hardly 4-5 bites of duck. Tiny tiny skinny bites mind you. Felt like the value wasn't there for this fish given how good it actually tasted. I'd look elsewhere on the menu. Overall, given what we liked, the ambience and staff, I am giving this a 5/5. If money isn't a factor then come here and go crazy, but if value matters then stray away from the yakitori and Duck Tataki, just my 2 cents.

Recently, I started coming for the food dinner and realized I was missing a lot. Their menu is very thoughtful in each dish has a nice variety of textures and flavors. I will say that their Ramen is one of the best in town. I think really what sets it apart is the broth being super in depth and they grill the pork belly which makes it really smoky and tender. This time I branched out and got the grilled squid as well and it was exceptional. The soy ginger glaze on it was incredible. The only few downsides I think I've noticed is service can be a little bit hit or miss which is surprising how small the places. Even when sitting at the bar, it took a little bit to get their attention. Also, I've tried a few of the cocktails and for the main part they just taste like alcohol with a soda. They sound extremely creative on the menu, but the balance isn't there. Either way I've typically gotten sake as they have a nice little selection. Overall, I love the whole vibe of this place. I always enjoy being able to see people make sushi. It's very open yet. Doesn't get overwhelmingly loud. Definitely my top three Japanese spots in Minneapolis.

Drinks: The Last Samurai cocktail & the Imposter Among Us mocktail were both delightful. Love the unique drink options, and the two we had were executed beautifully. Sushi: Unfortunately, the sushi was a bit disappointing. We had the hotate yuzu, Suzuki oshizushi, tamago nigiri, and the futomaki. The rice was unfortunately undercooked, and also too lightly seasoned. The tamago was alright, the futomaki was very good though. Dessert: The yuzu custard - one of my favorite desserts I've eaten in a long time. Definitely the best thing we had and I would absolutely get it again. Service: Our service was pretty good. I did watch one of the other servers grab soup spoons by the part you eat from and then bring them to a table which was concerning. Note: For anyone with dietary specifications: they offered gluten free soy sauce, and the custard was a vegan dessert and it was delightful.

Shrimp tempura and spicy tuna, topped with spicy crab and eel sauce, all wrapped in a gorgeous pink soybean wrapper. This was hands-down our favorite... bold, flavorful, and just the right amount of heat. The Twin Cities roll was a very close second. Served warm with a tempura coating, it was packed with spicy crab, tuna, and avocado, then finished with eel and spicy sauces and green onion. Rich, crispy, and deeply satisfying. We also tried the Kickboxer roll, loaded with spicy crab and tempura shrimp, topped with a sweet-spicy sauce and Sriracha for an extra kick. And because we couldn't resist, we ended with the seafood ramen. The broth was creamy and comforting, with two large scallops, a perfectly cooked shrimp, half a soft-boiled egg, plus noodles, sprouts, and bok choy. It felt like a warm hug in a bowl. Everything we tried was incredibly fresh, the fish practically melted in your mouth, and the seasoning was spot-on across the board. We'll absolutely be back and will be recommending this spot to friends and family. If you're craving sushi with a little flair and a lot of flavor, this place delivers.
