We were attracted to this food truck's Japanese look. We lived in Japan for several years and always enjoy trying Japanese food. We ordered hibachi shrimp which came with rice and yum yum sauce. They were very friendly taking the order and it didn't take too long to get our food. I noticed their sign for Ramune. My kids always loved that. Hibachi Daruma was a successful food truck operation, but then went brick and mortar! Food is delicious and a little on the pricey side, but I love it. I'm not sure if there's very good parking on the street; Most people are walking in. The salads are good, but if you really wanna get your fill order the combo steak and chicken or steak and shrimp with extra rice and vegetables ... it'll cost you about $30 but you'll be as happy as Naruto. Here's a genuine honest review: What I got: Spicy Teriyaki Chicken with Lo Mein Price: 18+ after tax (1$ extra for spicy?) Portion size: Good portion size Spicy Teriyaki Chicken: It was dry and bland. Imagine something that's a tiny bit spicy, but no flavor. It's hard to pull off. Lo Mein: It was actually pretty good. I enjoyed it more than other hibachi places I've been too. Oh boy do I miss working directly across the street from their Minneapolis location. It's been too long. This has to be one of the best lunch deals in Downtown Minneapolis. The portions are huge, it tastes amazing and there are so so many options to choose from. My personal favorite is the spicy teriyaki tofu hibachi. It's super flavorful, the spice is noticeable but not five alarm "I can't feel my face" hot. Top it with a little yum yum sauce and voila. I took 1 star off because it does take longer, so this isn't your typical grab and go meal. That doesn't mean it isn't worth it, but I've definitely been in a time crunch trying to get my meal and sit down to enjoy it. read more

I got to visit their food truck when it was at the uptown food truck festival. I love hibachi places and had to try this out. The wait was pretty short for how many people were ordering. They have the pretty basic options to choose from- chicken, beef or tofu teriyaki, shrimp, lomein or veggie that all come on a bed of fried rice and a side of veggies. I tried the shrimp hibachi. It was delicious! Just what I was expecting it to taste like and hit that hibachi craving perfectly. Also, don't forget to use that yum-yum sauce it comes with! The food truck portion is served on those red and white paper food trays. So, it holds a small amount but it was enough to fill me up. It was delicious so I had to come back and get seconds. I don't go to food trucks much so I wasn't sure if all food trucks are overpriced like that? It was around $13 for my hibachi shrimp. It's a little on the high side in my opinion. Good spot for a quick, no-frills lunch. I went there twice for lunch during my recent 4 day trip. I tried a few different options, but centered them around the hibachi items. Pros: Friendly staff, relaxed vibe, limited but good options to choose from. Cons: Price is slightly on the higher side given the surrounding options nearby. The food itself needed some help to bring out the flavor by adding extra seasoning. I would have given this place a 4 star if not for my bad experience with the add on scallops. While scouring Minneapolis for one restaurant that was actually open, my sister and I stumbled across this place. It wasn't our first choice for lunch in town, but with the good reviews we figure we'd give it a chance. We enter through the back hall, not the front entrance, which seemed pretty sketchy and had us unsure at first. However once we arrived at the restaurant, we could tell it was legit. We got our food in and we're served within 10 minutes of putting our order in. I went with the shrimp lo mein which turned out pretty decent, the amount of shrimp they gave was certainly more than anticipated which was great news. The meal itself was pretty subpar, but definitely more nutritious than some other Asian places because they didn't just load up with sauce. We were the only people in here the whole time we were here which gives off a certain vibe that isn't necessarily the best, but other than that pretty good. Prices were pretty good and again service was quick so couldn't complain. Nothing too special here, but one of the only places in town that's actually open so have to give it credit there! read more

I had heard great things about the food truck but was never able to experience it. So when I heard that they were gonna open a location in Mound. I was excited. I have been coming here since shortly after it opened. It has always been a good experience, but today, it kicked it up a few notches. This review is for the Mound location. We love hibachi, but sadly any time we've eaten in the restaurant we've felt disappointed. The service is inattentive, dismissive and to be honest it often feels almost rude. This is the only spot for hibachi in town so we've tried to give it a few chances but in the future we'll either just make the drive elsewhere or do takeout. Lastly, we've come in a few times 30-45 minutes prior to their quoted closing time (which is both listed online and printed on their door) and we've been turned away saying they shut things down for the night. For the price they charge here, it's sadly a disappointment. If you're going to try it, I'd stick to take out. read more

Hibachi Daruma is a new food truck on the scene this year and can usually be found around the usual hot spots for mobile eats in St. Paul (Mears Park, Rice Park, etc.). Their menu is fairly succinct, composed of gyoza, teriyaki, fried rice and lo mein with your choice of protein (beef, chicken or shrimp). Most dishes are accompanied by their special shrimp sauce, which is reminiscent of a zesty ranch type sauce. Portion sizes are fairly generous and I have no complaints about the shrimp fried rice or beef lo mein I have tried thus far. That said, there's not a whole lot that differentiates Daruma from it's skyway peers, other than Daruma makes everything to order and is typically far less greasy than some of their paint-by-numbers skyway competition. Overall, not a bad new addition to the food truck scene, but not really a novel dining option for worker bees downtown. read more

A surprise trip to the food trucks in downtown Minneapolis... Took awhile of browsing but I came back to this to try out their shrimp. I actually picked up the Teriyaki Tofu which also comes with fried rice. On top of that I ordered a side of grilled shrimp. Food quality-wise I've gotta say the shrimp was okay. It was cooked right and wasn't too dry or anything. The flavor though was kind of forgettable. The right saltiness but not outstanding. The Tofu though, was actually good! It was soft and fresh inside of the fried breading. I was pleasantly surprised after my first bite. The teriyaki and breading was just okay though. It was on the lighter side which was fine with me. Heavy Teriyaki... can get gross. The fried rice wasn't very impressive though.... :( Overall an okay place for a food truck. Good service, but the food wasn't stand-out much. The Friday night we walked over from the Westin they were slammed. There was a convention group in front of us (more than 15 people) and another walked in right behind us. Benny was great! He took our orders, created some seating for us, and he and the other front of the house worker were putting out food like crazy.
