Our boys are big fans of AYCE Sushi and Japanese food, and we were looking for a new spot to try that wasnt the normal Eagan spot, and the many times driving 494 seeing Samarui was often seen and never tried but no more after stopping off on a weekend midday. The lobby was sizable and inviting with a claw machine we couldnt resist trying while we waiting for a table to free up (It's 2 token per play, $1 a token - the claw is loose on the sensitivity so use some strategy). Once seated, perusing the lunch menu (after ordering the special electric lemonaid) the base selection was typical of other spots but the specialty hot stone Waygu and oysters for 4 (8x oysters, and 2x orders of 4 pieces of Waygu) was a big hit, alongside of the crispy wings, the tasty gyoza, the very garlic house salad, and the delightful crab puff pls Edamame to start. From the Lo Mein for the misses, to the BBQ Eel Fried Rice for my and my oldest, to the specialty YumYum Roll and Spicy Girl Roll, to my youngest's favorite Rainbow Roll and Eel Avocado Roll there was plenty to come back - along some of the other Regular Rolls. And I couldnt leave without my favorite red bean and green tea ice creams! Certainly a favorite at $20 for lunch from the family - can't wait to return! read more

For the weekday AYCE lunch, you cant beat the price for $20 (California could never! LOL). Theres a good variety to choose from and portions are big. Service is good and always checked on us to see if we wanted to order more. Its also a hibachi place so half the restaurant is for the teppenyaki area and the other half is for the other stuff. read more

My wife and I were looking for a new spot to try, and I remembered this place used to be Osaka. From the outside it looked nice, and once we got inside, we could tell they had made quite a few changes from the old Osaka restaurant layout. The decor was modern and clean, definitely a nice update. We were seated by a friendly hostess, and our server, Kristina, came by shortly after to greet us. She went over the menu and explained they have an all-you-can-eat option, but you have to finish everything or they charge you a fee. They also offer a la carte option, which we decided to go with since it was our first visit and we didn't know what to expect. My wife ordered the filet mignon and shrimp hibachi, and I went with a few sushi rolls. The food came out fairly quickly, and Kristina was great about keeping our drinks full before we even had to ask. Unfortunately, the hibachi didn't live up to our expectations. The shrimp were overcooked, and the rice tasted like it had been made a few days ago. Overall, the food lacked seasoning and flavor. Having eaten here multiple times I've never had any stomach issues, so the low price doesn't mean *bad* fish... but as far as quality and taste, it's average at best. The wife and I wanted to take our 9 year old daughter out to some Hibachi since she has never experienced it before. We decided on Samurai Hibachi & Sushi near Southtown (Bloomington) since we didn't want to deal with the parking at the MOA for Benihana. Glad we made the decision for Samurai. There was plenty of parking, and since we had an early dinner (4:30 pm reservation), we had the entire hibachi table to ourselves. The hostess was at our table as soon as we sat down to take our drink orders/apps, and soon returned for our menu choices. She was very attentive, and food service was very quick. We ordered 2 martinis for the me and the wife, and ordered the pan seared beef dumplings ( choice of beef, chicken or pork) and a bowl of edamame. The edamame hit the spot, but the dumplings were pretty plain. For the mains: I ordered the filet mignon steak and scallops, the wife ordered the chicken, and my daughter had the Jr kid portion of the steak. As a whim, I also ordered the 6 oz A5 Wagu steak so we could all try it. Good choice... 10 minutes later the hibachi chef came out with his cart and introduced himself (Romero I think?) He started out amusing my daughter with a variety of gags and jokes that had us all laughing out loud. He was very quick with the jokes and puns, and had some nice props to back up the act. Time for the food! Everything was placed on the grill in strategic locations for cooking, and the show started. He was good. Very good! The chef was very good at preparing the meals, The food was fantastic, and perfectly cooked. He even expertly cooked the A5 Wagu rare for me, and medium for the wife and kid. OMG. You need to try the Wagu. It was simply seasoned with salt and pepper, and quickly seared on both sides. It literally melted on your tongue. My daughter was in heaven. Fast forward to the end of the meal: We ended up having a large amount of leftovers. All 3 of us brought a To Go container home. I love leftovers! So, bottom line, this place rocks. Especially when you come early for a nice low key dinner (I have a feeling this place gets pretty loud later in the night). The service, chef show and expertise, food quality, and ambiance were spot on, and there was ample seating in the hibachi area and regular dining area. Plus they had a separate sushi bar as well. In conclusion, we had a great time. The prices were about the same as other similar restaurants, the service was excellent. Just be aware that the A5 Wagu steak is a premium option, but worth it in my opinion. Get the Ala Cart Wagu steak option for about $45 bucks per 6 oz. That way the entire table can have a taste of the OMG meat! We will definitely be back! Yummo. read more

I've never been here before and accidentally ended up here when my previous plan for a different AYCE sushi didn't pan out. But I'm so glad it worked out this way. The server we had was super nice and attentive. Let's be honest, if you don't eat 100+ pieces of sashimi and AYCE sushi what are you doing. With that being said this place has THE BEST slices of sashimi for AYCE you could get in MN. The pieces are super thick and the fish is very fresh. I will say in terms of other food it's not as many options but I'm here for the sushi anyway. The regular rolls are also HUGE so make sure you order less than you think you need. If I could give this establishment zero stars I would. We were ignored for most of our visit. Our server made a mistake and got us wrong food entree and we let him know very politely what happened but he dismissed our concerns. The manager then proceeded to stare at us very rudely . The building is quite large, and sectioned off into a few different areas: bar, normal table seating, and hibachi tables. I like this approach because Hibachi tables can get a bit rambunctious, so if you're just wanting a sushi date night, you can sit away from the ruckus. Service was friendly and responsive. We arrived 45 minutes early to a reservation and they sat us right away anyways! Food was yummy! I had the shrimp and chicken hibachi! However, these ones had huge chunks of undercooked potato... I was a bit disappointed, as I was chewing through tough sweet potato chunks. They were pretty hard. The shrimp tempura roll was good, except for the big chunks of lettuce they threw in the rolls, it made it sort of bitter. I received 6 of the spicy and 6 of the potato rolls, but only 5 of the shrimp? Sort of weird. The miso soup was good. After years of devotion to Benihana, we have moved up to Samurai. Mostly, it is about service. Benihana is a global behemoth, cold and inflexible, and they do not need our money. Samurai is a family-owned enterprise, and they WORK for our business. I would say the hibachi-prepared food is quite a bit better than the kitchen-prepared food served table side, the latter of which we enjoy for a causal night out. It's certainly quicker - in and out in no more than 30 minutes - but the food naturally tastes a bit better fresh off the grill. Samurai looks a bit classier than Benihana, too, skipping the faux-Oriental tackiness and instead aiming for upper-middle tier chic, clean and classy. While I resist challenging the bartenders here, they have a nice selection. But, best of all, we appreciate the service. Everyone works hard yet remains friendly and attentive at all times. I've been here a few times when I just need an AYCE sushi quickly. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Kani Su the imitation crab salad and they do it here very well. The problem with this place is that the manager hovers over the tables and tells each guest that any unconsumed food will be added to the AYCE price. He makes a point to say it even tho it is clearly in large letters already on the menu. And there was a sign on the table. Very awkward. Ok. Gotcha. Not a bad rule in and of itself however! The teriyaki beef/chicken/salmon is INEDIBLE. That's at least 5 pcs=$5 if you are unfortunate enough to order it. The HH is a good one too unless you happen to go on a Tuesday and it's a holiday and you find out AFTERWARD the HH is not available on the holidays.
