My wife and I were looking for a new spot to try, and I remembered this place used to be Osaka. From the outside it looked nice, and once we got inside, we could tell they had made quite a few changes from the old Osaka restaurant layout. The decor was modern and clean, definitely a nice update. We were seated by a friendly hostess, and our server, Kristina, came by shortly after to greet us. She went over the menu and explained they have an all-you-can-eat option, but you have to finish everything or they charge you a fee. They also offer a la carte option, which we decided to go with since it was our first visit and we didn't know what to expect. My wife ordered the filet mignon and shrimp hibachi, and I went with a few sushi rolls. The food came out fairly quickly, and Kristina was great about keeping our drinks full before we even had to ask. Unfortunately, the hibachi didn't live up to our expectations. Over all a solid lunch AYCE option for $20, hard to beat that unless you want fast food in the area. I have been back three times and each time it's a little different on extra charges. As someone who doesn't eat fish I love a veggie roll, and adding cream cheese is a great option. When ordering the avocado roll it's $1 to add cream cheese, so I would order a Philly no salmon. This was totally fine until one day I'm told I need to start paying $1 to remove the salmon, seems like a crazy thing considering I'm saving them money to NOT include the fish, arguably the most expensive item in the roll. I wouldn't care as much if there was any consistency with when I'm charged and when I'm not. Overall, communication and service could be better. Typically it's pretty slow during lunch M-Th, but when I went on a Friday it was busier, still a great option for lunch if you have an hour. read more

The lobby was sizable and inviting with a claw machine we couldnt resist trying while we waiting for a table to free up (It's 2 token per play, $1 a token - the claw is loose on the sensitivity so use some strategy). Once seated, perusing the lunch menu (after ordering the special electric lemonaid) the base selection was typical of other spots but the specialty hot stone Waygu and oysters for 4 (8x oysters, and 2x orders of 4 pieces of Waygu) was a big hit, alongside of the crispy wings, the tasty gyoza, the very garlic house salad, and the delightful crab puff pls Edamame to start. From the Lo Mein for the misses, to the BBQ Eel Fried Rice for my and my oldest, to the specialty YumYum Roll and Spicy Girl Roll, to my youngest's favorite Rainbow Roll and Eel Avocado Roll there was plenty to come back - along some of the other Regular Rolls. The food was good but the manager was rude. My husband has a shellfish allergy but can have his food cooked with everyone else's as long as it' is cooked separate on the hibachi grill. His shrimp appetizer is always given to me. Tonight the chef made a mistake and gave both of our shrimp to another person at our table and when he realized his error asked if I was also allergic to shrimp. We told him no and he told us he was going to bring out my shrimp. I told him to bring me my husband's as well. He returned with a plate with 2 shrimp on it. I asked where is my husband's shrimp and he acted confused. Our server came and tried to explain something about their policy which was unclear and then stated the manager would come to talk to us. The manager came with the 2 additional shrimp and began to rudely explain a policy about charging extra for preparing food for customers who have gluten and shellfish allergies and since we hadn't been charged then he should not have to give my husband the shrimp that comes with his meal. This makes no sense to me, I told him we have never had a problem at any other Japanese steakhouse with this and he just walked away. When I reviewed the menu online, there is no policy stating anything about additional charges for preparing food separately for customers with gluten or shellfish allergies. The wife and I wanted to take our 9 year old daughter out to some Hibachi since she has never experienced it before. We decided on Samurai Hibachi & Sushi near Southtown (Bloomington) since we didn't want to deal with the parking at the MOA for Benihana. Glad we made the decision for Samurai. There was plenty of parking, and since we had an early dinner (4:30 pm reservation), we had the entire hibachi table to ourselves. The hostess was at our table as soon as we sat down to take our drink orders/apps, and soon returned for our menu choices. She was very attentive, and food service was very quick. We ordered 2 martinis for the me and the wife, and ordered the pan seared beef dumplings ( choice of beef, chicken or pork) and a bowl of edamame. The edamame hit the spot, but the dumplings were pretty plain. For the mains: I ordered the filet mignon steak and scallops, the wife ordered the chicken, and my daughter had the Jr kid portion of the steak. As a whim, I also ordered the 6 oz A5 Wagu steak so we could all try it. Good choice... 10 minutes later the hibachi chef came out with his cart and introduced himself (Romero I think?) He started out amusing my daughter with a variety of gags and jokes that had us all laughing out loud. He was very quick with the jokes and puns, and had some nice props to back up the act. Time for the food! Everything was placed on the grill in strategic locations for cooking, and the show started. He was good. Very good! The chef was very good at preparing the meals, The food was fantastic, and perfectly cooked. He even expertly cooked the A5 Wagu rare for me, and medium for the wife and kid. OMG. You need to try the Wagu. It was simply seasoned with salt and pepper, and quickly seared on both sides. It literally melted on your tongue. My daughter was in heaven. Fast forward to the end of the meal: We ended up having a large amount of leftovers. All 3 of us brought a To Go container home. I love leftovers! So, bottom line, this place rocks. Especially when you come early for a nice low key dinner (I have a feeling this place gets pretty loud later in the night). The service, chef show and expertise, food quality, and ambiance were spot on, and there was ample seating in the hibachi area and regular dining area. Plus they had a separate sushi bar as well. In conclusion, we had a great time. The prices were about the same as other similar restaurants, the service was excellent. Just be aware that the A5 Wagu steak is a premium option, but worth it in my opinion. Get the Ala Cart Wagu steak option for about $45 bucks per 6 oz. We planned a surprise birthday party at Samurai for 1 pm. Some of us arrived at 1 but the birthday girl didn't arrive till 1:30, they rushed us to order saying that we are late for our reservation even though the place was empty and we were the only people there. We reserved for 50 people, we had 42 people attend but not everyone ordered food because they restricted us to all you can eat and would not allow some of us to order from the regular menu. They took $100 for a deposit and refused to give it back or put it towards our bill saying that we didn't meet the 50 people even though the place was empty and no one was there. We had a really bad experience and the food wasn't that good either. We will not be returning again. read more

I've never been here before and accidentally ended up here when my previous plan for a different AYCE sushi didn't pan out. But I'm so glad it worked out this way. The server we had was super nice and attentive. Let's be honest, if you don't eat 100+ pieces of sashimi and AYCE sushi what are you doing. With that being said this place has THE BEST slices of sashimi for AYCE you could get in MN. The pieces are super thick and the fish is very fresh. I will say in terms of other food it's not as many options but I'm here for the sushi anyway. The regular rolls are also HUGE so make sure you order less than you think you need. However, these ones had huge chunks of undercooked potato... I was a bit disappointed, as I was chewing through tough sweet potato chunks. They were pretty hard. The shrimp tempura roll was good, except for the big chunks of lettuce they threw in the rolls, it made it sort of bitter. I received 6 of the spicy and 6 of the potato rolls, but only 5 of the shrimp? Sort of weird. The miso soup was good.
