Outside of the building, view looking north.

Unfortunately - not so good - 2 stars. I should have taken the warning when I saw clutter & trash on the exterior of the building, on the south side, in addition to more stuff on the ground in front. I actually thought this restaurant location might be permanently closed. But I ignored my instincts, I tried the front door, and I went in inside! GOOD: 1. The service was friendly. The food tasted fine. And the prices seem in line with comparable places. NEEDS IMPROVEMENT: 1. First of all (and worst of all), the whole restaurant smelled like poop when we walked in and throughout the entire time of our visit. Yuck! After thinking it over, my theory is that this was sewer gas. The smell seemed to be coming from the north side of the restaurant, where the restrooms are located. I'm not a plumber so this is just a theory. But whatever it was, it was disgusting. 2. The staff seemed to be very concerned when I told them that I didn't know if we wanted the "regular" menu or the "all-you-can-eat" menu since it was our first visit. They actually wouldn't let us sit down. They made us stand by the entryway and pick a menu before we could be seated! This was pretty irritating. It was another lost opportunity where I should have simply turned around and walked out. 3. The left (north) dining room area seems to have been converted to storage or a child care area or something. Whatever the function, it's tacky. Install a wall or a curtain, anyone? 4. Finally, one of the staff had a small child that was running around and being super irritating. I don't mind seeing owner's children at businesses. Some owners even have the children help with small tasks. It's usually cute and endearing. But this scene was in another category...it was rude and distracting. 5. All of these things make me VERY concerned about what's going on in the back kitchen. If this is what I can easily see (and smell) as a customer, what CAN'T I see (or smell) in back? I'm being generous and going with 2 stars because the food was good. But this is by far the worst Tokyo Sushi location I've been to so far. It's a shame because all of the things I mentioned are easy fixes. As for me, I won't go back to this location. -Maxx

Teriyaki beef without the sauce - medium rare but I was not asked how I wanted it cooked.

I am regretful when I have to leave such poor reviews. We had to get a quick lunch today and opted to try Tokyo Sushi in Brooklyn Center. We were seated quickly and the service was prompt and responsive throughout our entire experience. This review does not reflect the service as much as it does the cooking and the quality of the food. To begin, we ordered three miso soups which were hot and delicious. Then, we ordered a spicy tuna roll, dynamite roll, and out of control roll. The best one out of the three was a spicy tuna roll. The dynamite roll was served with brown avocado in the middle. It was also extremely mushy and we could not eat it, so we returned it. We also ordered vegetable fried rice. Instead, we were served vegetable noodles, so we had to re-order what we had actually requested. The shrimp tempura was served cold, and was sickeningly sweet and mealy tasting. I'llI also orders four pieces of nigiri that were all not fresh. We left feeling disappointed and unsatisfied. While it is an all -you-can-eat experience, fresh and hot food is a minimum of what should be expected.

My boyfriend and I's favorite thing to do is go to unlimited sushi! We've been to a couple of places around the city and this one was pretty good! We were sat immediately and the servers were kind and friendly. It was pretty busy but was pretty quiet and peaceful still. We were able to order right away and the rolls came out super speedy! I was bummed though that almost every roll fell apart when I picked it up with my chopsticks. They were very tasty tho! I would recommend the crunchy and Tokyo rolls. Overall I would recommend this restaurant!

Food is always good here for AYCE. Selection is standard for most AYCE, but they do have a few other kitchen special items that other spots such as a Kyoto does not have. Some of those items are: - salt and pepper shrimp (so yummy and always fresh - note: it typically is deep fried with the shell on) - roast duck (this is a hit or miss on flavor - sometimes the pieces are way too fatty with bones and fat) We did a few rounds of food, so some of the photos show what we ordered. Picture quality isn't the greatest but you can still see an idea of what their food looks like. Appetizers - yummy, comes out fresh, hot, and quick! Sushi rolls - sometimes the rolls do have a lot of rice - so be mindful of that when ordered bc it will fill you up quickly. Service has been great the few times we've visited. The servers are really nice and do their best to be attentive even when they are busy and have larger groups to serve. Location is great as it is located in a strip mall that has plenty of parking. The lot itself doesn't get too busy which is nice. Ambiance is nothing spectacular but they are able to accommodate larger groups which is a plus!

We've been hitting up Tokyo weekly as a tradition every Monday. My daughter has fallen in love with the All you can eat...as shes a new sushi lover! Staff is always great! Food comes out fast! No complaints for either of us!!!! We'll see you Monday! As long as your open!!

My go-to sushi spot if I'm just craving my regular sushi. The service is good and food is as good as you expect.

I happened to drive by this restaurant yesterday and would've eaten there then if they weren't closed on Tuesdays. So I had to wait until today. Tokyo Sushi charges less for lunch ($17.99) than comparable AYCE places like Kyoto Sushi in Coon Rapids. I had my usual favorites like rainbow roll but tried a couple of unique things on their menu such as onion soup. The fried rice seemed a bit bland. I also noticed tip jars by the cash register and where they make the sushi. I thought that was a bit tacky but still left one for my waitress who regularly checked to see if I wanted more food or water. I was also allowed access to an electric outlet in an employee station to keep my laptop charging while I ate. I prefer the ambiance of Kyoto Sushi, but may return to Tokyo Sushi in the future.

Nigiri...super thin and waaay too much rice

I would give five stars for the service and for the cleanliness measures during COVID-19 pandemic. The food was just beyond disappointing, bland and terrible. I know this is an all you can eat place and yet with the amount of all you can eat places available in the Twin Cities, I would say this is the worst. I started with a house salad and miso soup both it just taste like water. The lettuce was mainly white with barely any green in it and the salad dressing tasted like nothing. Mayonnaise had more flavor than the salad dressing. The soup taste like water even though it looks like miso soup and there were hardly any tofu seaweed or scallion pieces. The nigiri was mainlyRice and I could see through the slices of fish. Same with the maki roll it was mainly rice. One of the pieces didn't even really have fish in it. The tofu tasted like cardboard. All in all, I will say that they took COVID-19 pandemic precautions in health safety very seriously, which I appreciate it, and the service was superb. I never felt rushed, they came back and checked on me often, and were very friendly. I will not be back however for the sushi. Go to Kyoto or another all you can eat sushi place and said with the food is not skipped on and the quality is still good.

    Onion Soup (very flavorful)
    Steve G.

Stopped by on Mother's Day and got a table with only a short wait. Staff was very attentive and friendly, and the space is very nice and clean. Sushi choices were very good and so was the quality. Their onion soup was very good. Most of these all-you-can-eat places have very mild broths, but this one was a perfect level of flavor and seasoning. Appetizers were pretty standard, but the chicken wings were excellent. Like most places, the Fried Scallops were not real scallops (tasted more like cod). We had 6 or 7 different types of Special Rolls and all were really good, tightly wrapped, and sliced to the right size (hate when the pieces are almost too big to fit in your mouth). There's lots more on the menu that we didn't get to try this time, but we'd definitely stop by again to try more.

Closer to my office, this is one of my favorite stomping grounds. Get in here for a week day 'All you can eat' lunch and get the most out of the $17 you pay for an overall sumptuous meal. I'm no expert of Sushi to comment how it should be made and if they meet the standard but this place sets the Gold standard when it comes to preparing the Sushi and getting them to your table as you work through filling your tummy with more of it. Now if you are following me as an individual on Yelp you would know that I'm a vegetarian and hence my reviews are based on what vegetarian items I tried out at a place. At Tokyo Sushi for the starters, try the one of a kind seaweed salad that you don't get at most of the other restaurants. They have an interesting categorization of the menus in terms of tempuras, sushi, maki, temaki, teriyaki etc. and you can keep ordering those until you feel filled or rather overfilled. They have a strict No food wastage and this puts a conscious effort on your mind not to over order and pay extra for it. If you are here, do try the mango avocado and cucumber avocado sushi rolls as they would taste out of the world. Nice hosts, wonderful food and a great atmosphere, what else could you ask for?

We've been here a few times since the original review from December 2019. Overall, my opinion hasn't changed much. It's my second favorite all you can eat sushi place anywhere.

I don't eat the seafood much so can't comment on those. If I did eat seafood it'd be worth my money. These foods are Asian style, NOT American. So if you're here to eat pizza, fried, clam chowder or macaroni you'll be disappointed. Even the textures, tenderness of meats and seasonings are different so if you don't like Asian textures or seasonings, you won't like it. Waitresses are usually attentive but most of them don't speak English or communicate well which defeats the purpose of service beyond getting your plates cleared or water refilled. The woman who works at the front desk is one of the rudest employees I've ever encountered! It surprises me that she still works there, unless she is the owner. When I came here before I had a question about whether we eat first or pay first and she just SHUSTED ME, and continued to SHUST me and wouldn't let me speak. I was with a large group at that time. Customers have the right to ask these questions and inquire about payment requirements before eating. Her shushing me to my face and continue to ignore my question just making making hand movements for us to follow and sit down is the epitome of rudeness and is why I don't like to come here or support this place. Yes, she can talk. She was just being rude. Their options are limited if you want variety. Most of their dishes are carbs or meat. There is very little variety when it comes to vegetables dishes or vegetables with meat. This is bad for a Chinese or Asian restaurant because Asian cuisine commonly has stir fried vegetables with meat. Flavors and textures were good though. Large salad and dessert bar. The chocolate fountain is a gross idea and I wouldn't touch it. Because there's no one monitoring it to keep kids from dipping hands in or sneezing in it or people double dipping.

And yes, at one point I was jokingly called out as "toxic", and to be clear, that was directed at me. All in fun! We ordered the steak/shrimp combo, which came with a shrimp appetizer and white rice. Of course we upgraded to fried rice, which feels like a must. Everything was really good and the chef did not cut corners at all, which we appreciated. My only callout is the cost. Even with the coupon and a $25 gift card, we still show how spent over $110 for two meals and one drink. I was honestly shocked. Compared to other places, it is definitely more expensive. Gratuity is automatically added. That said, the service truly was fantastic, so in this case it felt deserved. Even with the higher price, I would still go back. It was clear their main goal was to turn tables over as quickly as possible, rather than provide attentive service. I noticed the chef using the same spatula to handle both raw steak/seafood and cooked noodles without cleaning it in between, which is a big red flag. Overall, it wasn't worth the hassle.
