Came here for dinner with a group of friends. We all had the all you can eat option and were incredibly satisfied with the entire experience! We were given a menu with various options we could choose from and the wait staff would come around every 10-15 minutes to check in to see if we wanted to order anything from the menu. Quality of the food was pretty good. Comparing the prices of what one would pay per roll individually, versus the all you can eat pricing, as long as you eat a minimum of 3 rolls of sushi. Kyoto used to be my go-to AYCE sushi spot, but with new options popping up around the Twin Cities, I haven't visited as often. That said, their lunch price remains one of the best deals in town. When I went back this week, I noticed a definite improvement in quality. Perhaps with a smaller menu, the kitchen is less overwhelmed and able to focus more on the food. Everything was fresh, clean, and simply prepared. As always, I loved their teriyaki salmon and beef, and their tempura stands out compared to other AYCE places. Odd that they don't have tuna as part of their nigiri selection for lunch though. Our server was also really friendly! Overall, bang for your buck! read more

I had a great experience with Kyoto today. I placed an order via an online app and accidentally sent it to this location instead of the Savage one. Although I couldn't get this reversed via the app, the restaurant tried to help out as best they could. I appreciated that customer service! I will start by saying the sushi was fine, as good as I can get at the local grocer but we will never be back. After we had already ate our meal the man behind the counter started to cough and bring up mucus that he spit into the sink over and over, blew his nose into a paper tool and then put on plastic gloves to start making sushi Without washing his hands. Tried out Kyoto at the recommendation of my sister and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was especially for an All-You-Can-Eat restaurant. This isn't a walk-up buffet type of place but instead you order from a menu with a server. You can order whatever you want. The portions are small (couple of pieces) which is actually great. You can always order more when you are ready but having the servings be a smaller size allows you to try numerous things. The rolls are a normal roll size however so keep that in mind when ordering rolls/sushi etc. My sister and I ordered a couple of rolls (Boston & Dynamite), a 2-piece shrimp tempura, each had a bowl of Chicken Fried Rice w/Yum Yum sauce on the side, order of spring rolls). Everything came out to the table very hot and fresh and was very good. The only complaint I would have was that the pickled ginger and wasabi were both very dried out so I think they pre-fill the little serving dishes so I would recommend maybe changing that. The spring rolls were hot and probably were crispy when they were put on the serving plate, but the chili sauce came out of the tiny sauce area on the plate when they delivered it so they were wet on the bottom. The service was very good but the ambience leaves much to be desired (kind of dark, booths have seen MUCH better days etc). But it appeared clean even if a bit ragged. I have been the frequenting this establishment for more than 6 years. I do not plan on ever returning. Service staff looks like they are miserable and angry at all times, and I have to flag the waitress down I order to ask for additional items. When I ask to order additional items, I get a dirty look and she returns 5 min later. I ordered the scallops. What arrived I was not sure was edible. I waited 25+min for a roll. I am disgusted. I am no, I am one individual. Not a priority. But in all of my time, coming here as a solo individual, I have never experience such horrendous service. We were playing hookie from work and stopped by the lunch buffet at Kyoto! All You Can Eat sounded lovely on a rainy March afternoon. The space itself is nicer than I expected from a strip mall sushi spot. The blinds were down and minimal interior lights made it seem dark, and not necessarily in a good way. Service was really responsive, friendly, and positive! We were really bummed that our two favorite traditional sushi items, seaweed salad and Philadelphia roll, were only on the dinner menu. We got over it quickly because their lunch menu had so many other offerings. All of our food was good, and about the quality you'd expect from a $18 AYCE buffet. You are coming here for the quantity, not the quality. But the quality was frankly pretty solid for the style. All you can eat! This was my first experience at an all you can eat sushi restaurant. I had heard awesome reviews from some of my friends, but hadn't made the trip to Kyoto because there are so many other awesome sushi places in and around Eden Prarie. As an impulse, I randomly ended up here for lunch on a Thursday afternoon at about 1pm. They serve lunch until 2:30 so I had plenty of time. I arrived and was seated in a small booth, the lighting was dark, but OK comfort-wise. The service was good, and the food came fast. You are able to order as many items as you want, and I started off slow with a vegetable salad and shrimp tempura roll. I ended up also trying the miso soup, edamame, some single sushi pieces, and the snow mountain roll. MANY of the items offered for lunch are fried/ tempura rolls, shrimp or vegetables. I definitely wish there was more fresh options, but I guess that's the point - to fill you up. The servers kept up on their rounds around the restaurant to ask if you wanted anything else. It got a little annoying when I didn't want anything, so I sort of wish there was a little card (like at fogo de chao) where it has a green and red side to indicate if you want more food. But I am really glad they came around and were so attentive. The food was good, but not excellent. My fave sushi is rolls with tuna, and they didn't offer that for lunch, which was sad, but I can get over it. Overall, I would return, but I'm not sure I will become a regular, because of how much fried stuff they offer for lunch. read more

They gave us semi decent sushi for some but some of the rolls tasted off, and we didn't want to get sick so we didn't eat that fish. We explained to them that we didn't eat it because the fish tasted old and gross so they decided not to charge us extra. It was not a pleasant experience and we won't be back. What an amazing all you can eat experience! One of the most important things, in my opinion, when writing a review is to consider the context. For $27, you get all the fresh and tasty sushi and selected appetizers you want. All the sushi was very good, and service was fast and friendly. I don't know how anyone could give fewer than 5 stars, especially considering the value! Unlike some other all you can eat sushi places, the servers practically force you to order more! They kept coming by and asking us if we wanted anything else. Out drinks were always kept full, and the restaurant, including the restroom, was spotless. I am SO glad they opened up in the Eden Prairie area! My husband and I used to drive from Hopkins to Savage just to do the all you can eat sushi buffet. Yes, it's that good (especially for the price) and this makes it just oh so much easier to get there! Food: Keep in mind, this is AYCE sushi. Don't go there expecting the best sushi of your life, but definitely go ready to explore some new rolls. We love the Sexy Girl roll (yes, that's a thing) and the volcano rolls. Everything else is just ordered on impulse but there's rarely something I have actually disliked. Service: I've always thought it was good. We order a LOT (10+ rolls) at once, so understandably the food takes a little longer to receive. Be patient! It's totally worth it. The servers occasionally do have a hard time understanding, but they are always quick to resolev any issues. Atmosphere: Average, but that's not why we go there. It's clean, new and laid back which I like since we're usually camping out there for at least an hour. The value is 100% there. Beware they are VERY liberal in charging a 15% surcharge on food waste. Today we ordered what we normally get and some of the items were not good. We ate the majority of our dishes and they said that the stuff let at the table was wasteful. I asked them to define waste and the manager could not. He said that because certain dishes at our table were half-eaten, they trigger the excess waste surcharge. They said that it's not their fault, but that they encounter customer waste frequently so they now require no waste, they will add the surcharge for anything left over. By the time we left, my kids finished the edamame and tempura. This amounted to mandatory gratuity...hope the surcharge was worth it. read more

So I was craving Chicken Teriyaki and order here for pickup. I got the Chicken, as well as an order of Tuna, Octopus, and Flying Fish Roe sushi. The chicken was over cooked, rubbery and tough, as well as under seasoned. The veggies were also very over steamed all mush like it was for someone without teeth, and very watery. Even with the extra teriyaki sauce they sent it was awful, most of it discarded, just inedible. Now the sushi. Most place will charge between 3.00 and 4.50 (or more for special fish) for 2 pieces of sushi. Not here, 3.00 gets you only 1 and they are very stingy with the protein. My wife and I were looking for something different to do for going out to eat for our date night and decided to give AYCE sushi a shot. We had heard great things from friends about Kyoto and so found the location that was closest to where we were staying. The location is located in a strip mall close to the mall. Inside is dimly lit and very intimate seating so it is perfect for date nights and family get together. We were seated very quickly in a booth and given the menu and the walkthrough of what to expect by our hostess. Not even did we sit down our menu, our waitress arrived and asked what we would like to start out with. One thing that shocked my when we first sat down where the choices...choices upon choices. Sashimi, sushi, tempura, noodles, rolls, fried rice, soups, appetizers, teriyaki grilled proteins, stir fry, etc. We started working our way down the menu. Each item comes out on small plates perfect for sharing. You can order as little or as much as you want each time. Our waitress kept checking back with us and was very prompt and quick. Kudos to the sushi makers as well as they kept rolling out the sushi quickly and efficiently. It is amazing how feeling full with sushi creeps up on you but man was I ever full when we stopped eating. It was great. My favorite rolls were the Kyoto Roll and the Boston Roll. The Sushi Pizza was a very interesting take on sushi and is a must try as well. I also ventured out and tried the fried eel fried rice, it was delicious. This place has worsened over the times I have ate here. Today the service was HORRIBLE. The waiter took forever after we sat. We asked why the lunch price on the weekend costed more than weekdays even though it's the exact same items. The rude waiter straight up replied saying "if you don't want to eat you can leave" and didn't provide an actual reason. Now keeping in mind this is a chain restaurant by very hopeful. The staff was friendly and was on their game. This location was clean and comfortable. The food was good. Now with Cub Foods sushi being the worse place for sushi and Benihanas being the best, i would say this place would rank in the middle. The rice in the sushi roll was a little stale. The Wasabi looked like it's been sitting out for hours. Kinda tried up on the edges and loosing its green color..no thanks lol. And it did effect the experience a little. In the realm of all-you-can-eat sushi, this place rates higher than others that have a similar concept. In the overall realm of sushi, the rating is probably closer to a three. Came here with two friends from out of state who don't have such a concept in their area. Therefore, I thought this might be a nice place to check out and give them a different experience. We sampled multiple dishes. Some of the highlights included the snow mountain roll, dynamite roll, and the gyoza. I would recommend skipping the tempura--they were battered heavier than most (perhaps to fill you up quicker?) and while disclosed on the menu, the shu mai are deep fried--I believe they are much better steamed. Service was pleasant and our waiter came back often to see if we wanted more refills. This point is probably tiresome, but keep in mind some of the specialty rolls are only included in the dinner price and not lunch.
