I had a very disappointing experience at Kyoto Sushi in Savage. I waited a very long time just to place my order. When I was finally able to order, the employee was very rude and spoke to me in a way that felt like she was almost yelling, making me feel uncomfortable and as if I was asking something unreasonable. After placing my order, I had to wait a long time again. When I finally received my food, the order was incorrect. The whole experience was frustrating, especially because the customer service was lacking from the beginning. I hope they can improve their communication, attitude toward customers, and order accuracy. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I will not be returning. read more

I don't know what our server's problem was, but she did not want to stop at our table. It's all you can eat...meaning you're going to have to take multiple orders? And my husband and I are not high maintenance people - I think she came to our table 4 times in total. When we tried to place an order with multiple items so she didn't have to make as many trips, I listed a few things that I wanted and she closed her notebook, ready to walk away, when I asked my husband what he wanted to order. Food was terrible. There was a hair in the crab tempura, that the waitress acknowledged but did nothing about it. The teriyaki steak was boiled steak strips with teriyaki sauce drizzled on top. Kyoto/Kyota(? the name is different on the outside of the restaurant) is a staple in the Twin Cities; it's got a lot of variety & their sushi is fairly reasonably priced (I think around $31 for all you can eat). A couple of friends & I stopped in for dinner on a Friday night; the restaurant itself is a little depressing, with low lights, windows covered in clings, & kind of strange decor. The floor was super slippery & I almost fell, not sure what that was about. We ordered a fairly large amount of food to start with, & it came out as it was ready, which was nice. Each time we ordered, though, we were missing at least one thing we'd ordered; not a huge deal, but it's annoying to not know whether it's still coming (& you may get double), or if they just missed it. The sushi itself was pretty good, not the best I've ever had, but good for the price. In all, I'm sure I'll be back to at least one Kyoto location, but I wouldn't go here expecting the best sushi you've ever had. read more

The Kyoto has Wonderful Food, and the Service was very good. The dining room is very large, but comfortable. The seafood was fresh, and Scallops and Shrimp were well prepared and very tasty. Finally stopped in for the all you can eat sushi. $30 was a good price for all you can eat sushi rolls, appetizers, dessert. Drink is xtra. Waitress was very attentive. The rolls were tightly prepared and they were very good. I love the shrimp Tempura and many of the appetizers. I especially like the fried mushrooms & spring rolls. I was too full for dessert. Returned to this location after an over-year-long break, hoping beyond hope that this time I would be able to leave with a positive experience from this restaurant. Unfortunately, I was left dissatisfied with the quality of the food for the price and disappointed with the service provided by the wait staff. Every time I have attempted to create a positive memory with this restaurant, I am increasingly let down by how low the standards are allowed to slip. My wife and I are not sushi snobs, so we love the concept of Kyoto and their AYCE menu. There are a ton of choices to choose from including sushi, rice dishes, noodles, appetizers, panko fried dishes, and teriyaki grilled dishes. You really cannot go wrong. We like to choose a couple rolls at a time and then sample a little bit of everything off the menu. We especially enjoy the Kyoto Roll and the Spicy Dragon Roll. Service is very quick so do not think you have to order everything you want to try all at once. They can turn out those sushi rolls very quick. Also, don't be foolish and fill up on rice side dishes too fast (but do make sure to try the BBQ Eel Fried Rice), make sure you leave room to enjoy some shrimp teriyaki, fried scallops, and panko breaded prawns as well as your sushi! They always give you plenty of wasabi and ginger. And if you ask politely they give you an extra bowl so that you can have more soy sauce. I always get the water no ice with my meal. So I can't comment on their drinks. But their sushi is amazing. I absolutely love it. It melts in your mouth. Or crunches. Just like it's supposed to. I've had some of their tempura. And it's super yummy as well! The staffing is on top of things. They don't over crowd you and bug you. Yet they keep an eye out when your plates get empty and need a refill. I keep coming back. I Went in for dinner, it's located in a strip mall. The price is about $26 per person, if you go with an appetite it is worth every bit of it. There menu contains are allot of cook items for those of us that are not a fan of sushi, the Teriyaki and freind Items on the menu were delicious and the food keeps coming. Keep in mind this is an AYCE joint, so the sushi they crank out isn't Park Avenue. However, for the concept, its pretty damn good. I've started coming here on an approximately bi-weekly basis with at least eight other co-workers at open to enjoy drinks and some decently good food. They are very patient with our group and bring the food out in a timely manner. The beef teriyaki is a highlight, as are the gyoza. I've tried the spring rolls twice and I'm not a big fan. They are minimally packed and have tasted mushy both times I've ordered them. My favorite sushi rolls at Kyoto are the Snow Mountain roll and the roll that comes with a wasabi sauce on top of it. As a result, I have to go to all-you-can-eat sushi establishments to compensate for the bottomless gullet that is my tummy. Kyoto is the place to be! In going to an all-you-can-eat sushi establishment, the quality of the food will not necessarily be on par with a per roll charged joint, and that is my only reason for rescinding the one star. Yes, I'm rating the Savage and Eden Prairie locations separately. Even though they all seem to have the same overall look/feel, they are VERY different! Food: I feel like the sushi itself is actually a little better here, but not by much. They do something different with their peanut roll here that my husband prefers. It's great food for the price you pay. Service: It seems to be a TEENY bit slower here and I know we usually end up missing parts of our order. Since it's AYCE, we end up just ordering whatever's missing the next time rather than splitting hairs. Atmosphere: It seems to be a busier restaurant, so somewhat louder as well. AYCE sushi buffet that comes with unlimited appetizers, nigiri, sashimi, noodle and rice dishes as well as desserts. Think they only offer ice cream for dessert though. Don't hate me if I'm wrong. The concept is rather easy. You pick a few things off the menu and server comes out with them. You can order as much as you want and as often as you want. Just make sure you finish what you order otherwise, they'll charge you for wasted food. The quality of fish is just OK. Not the highest quality obviously! And also not the crappiest unlike some of the Asian style buffets that offer sushi. If you're craving for sushi, come here and get your grub on. Sometimes I'm tired paying $100 for a sushi lunch or dinner for 2. Come here and you can walk away fully satisfied for a little over $25 a person. Phenomenal lunch deal of All-You-Can-Eat sushi. My roommates are constantly trying to coordinate all of our retail schedules to go eat there. The price is an affordable 17$ give or take with tax, not including beverages. There is a small surcharge if there is leftover sushi, but the percentage is small. The all you can eat does include the ramen, appetizers, and other dishes. So, even if you are not a huge sushi fan there are a great many options for you to choose from so you leave full and feeling the 17$ was well spent. I have never had bad service nor have I had any complaints post meal about the food. Definitely a place I recommend going for lunch over dinner as the dinner price is closer to 25$ for the same All-You-Can-Eat deal. I would like to mention this review is being done by a person who has never gotten sushi in the cities that are proclaimed to be amazing sushi towns. The one thing I didn't like was that the rice is not cold and pretty much everything you eat (sushi, sashimi related) is pretty much room temperature. Okay, I freaking LOVE it his Kyoto, but upon going there this last week, it's apparent there's a new sushi chef or something. So I'm quite disappointed and wanted to give this a 3 star, but I love coming here too much to do that. Anyway, they decreased the amount of sushi rolls and got rid of my favorite one... 'Twas a very sad day for Shelby... the rolls we did have, though, the Sexy Girl and Crazy roll, were not disappointing. With the exception of the Philadelphia and Spicy Salmon roll, we had to gag those down so we wouldn't be charged... as usual the beef teriyaki was good--not a great cut of meat tonight, unfortunately.
