I really liked the service here. Everyone was super fast with refills and the food was super fresh when it came out. Though the place isn't huge, it's arranged in a way that makes it feel super spacious. I'd say the food is fairly comparable to most other AYCE sushi places in the cities. I like the fried tofu in the way they do it here and the sashimi was good too. I will say the sushi roll cuts are a bit large, so eating a piece in one bite isn't convenient, and it falls apart when trying to take only a bite. read more

I really enjoyed the all-you-can-eat lunch. The sushi quality was comparable to what you'd get at a regular Japanese restaurant, and the freshly prepared kitchen dishes came out hot and were absolutely delicious. I was still new to sushi when we went to Akame Sushi so I didn't know what to expect. I was so impressed! The restaurant itself was clean, quiet and the atmosphere was relaxing. The food was incredible! They have a very extensive menu and you can order all you can eat. The waitress was attentive without being annoying. I've been to other AYCE sushi places. This one the ambiance was fine relatively calm. The food was fine just because of the wait time for food coming to my table hot items were cold. The service was terrible empty drinks, slow food ordering from the first order to the last. Staff seemed rude and didn't want to be there it was 2000. When I came in I know it was late since they closed at 2100. I wanted to see if service was good even later in the night. It was terrible, slow and at the end of the meal asked for green tea ice cream which was included... got my bill no ice cream till money was in the bill holder. Which would b fine but they brought the ice cream and pretty much were kicking me out. Couldn't even eat the ice cream because of the staff attitude. We were in the area and looked for an all you can eat sushi restaurant. This is a prime location near the highway and huge parking lot. We were surprised to see my niece working that night. First time visit, all 5 of us had a good experience - 4 stars. Parking is super easy, the parking lot is huge. And the restaurant itself is big and it takes up a large part of the north end of the building. On the evening of our visit, things were hopping. We had some weirdness in the beginning when I refused to tell the server if we were doing the all-you-can-eat menu or the standard menu. I explained, logically, that I'd never visited before and I definitely needed to see both menus. (And both menus are definitely different.) Despite the push-back & weirdness from the server and after consulting with a manager, she let us look at both menus. She had to get permission from the manager to let us look at both menus??? Our friends told us the reason for the strange menu reaction is because some customers will order something cheap off the regular menu but then cheat and eat off their friend's plate with a mountain of buffet selections. True? Who knows? Maybe. I went with hot green tea, miso soup, and 3 tuna based sushi rolls off the all-you-can-eat menu. It saved me a few bucks. My mother ordered 1 sushi roll off the standard menu. Our 4 friends all went with all-you-can-eat. LOW CARBOHYDRATE: It's pretty easy to eat low-carb keto style at Akame. The sushi roll and sashimi selections, in addition to chicken, shrimp, and crab will leave your insulin in good shape. I try to avoid noodles, large rice portions, deep fried breaded food, and any sauce that likely contains sugar and vegetable seed oils. FYI, I asked and they use soy bean oil in their fryers. Excellent sushi and sashimi. Based on today's prices, they are not overpriced. We generally go for dinner and now it's just over $30 per person. That being said, the service is very good (and we've been there at least a dozen times). The one complaint I have is their policy of adding their own service charge to the bill. With 5 or more they automatically add 15% even when person number 5 is only two years old... Frankly I'd leave a bigger tip if they didn't do that. read more

Business lunch with a co-worker and I had never tried Kyoto or any MN chain of sushi that specializes in all you can eat. Usually I judge these places but took the gamble and it paid off They have a solid menu with a ton of sashimi, roll and cooked options and a staff that keeps bringing you food until you are done ! We've frequented other Kyoto locations, but finally tried this one out now that we've moved to the west side of the Twin Cities. No exception - the experience was great! We got seated right away on a Friday night (we did come a little early around 6p), and wait staff was really attentive. Food is great - AYCE is pretty standard across the Kyoto locations, and is super enjoyable! Sashimi always seems freshly sliced, and rolls always come out right after being made. By far the lowest quality of sushi I've ever experienced...after a pretty poor experience with it the first time, where I felt pretty terrible after eating their food but didn't actually get ill - just terrible stomach cramps and some ill effects in the gastrointestinal area - I gave it a second try. WORST decision of my life. I no doubt got noro virus or E-coli, which honestly shouldn't have come as a surprise to me when I had been skeptical about eating their food. Went for lunch. Service was fast but food quality is worse than I remember when this used to be Kyoto. They add too much rice in the nigiri. No sashimi in lunch menu. Rolls are quality you would find in a Chinese buffet. They consider leaving behind food that might be equivalent to 1 roll of sushi to be excessive food waste and will charge $6.99 additional. So even if you don't like something you ordered, you either have to eat it all or pay extra. We won't be returning to this place. read more

This is the 2nd time we've been to this location and had the all you can eat. There are so many items to chose from even if you aren't into sushi. We have had a few of the udon noodles and fried rice dishes and they tend to give somewhat large servings. To avoid wasting, make sure you try to split with a few people. The sushi is good quality and we found a few of our favorites. They also have sashimi (my favorite is surf clam for beginners). They have a chicken teriyaki roll and a few basic rolls for those trying to get used to sushi. We tried these maki rolls: - Rainbow Roll (fresh and had multiple types of fish on top - #9 Roll (the favorite at our table) - Tempura Roll - Deep Fried Roll (comes hot... be careful) - Crazy Roll (tasty but a larger roll) - Caterpillar Roll (love some eel!) All you can eat American style Sushi is the staple at Kyoto. Lunch is 15.99 before beverage and dinner is 25.99. The menu has about 50 or so items to choose from that are all apart of the All you can eat choice. Not feeling like eating until you pop? That's ok! They offer al a cart menu items as well. They appear to have a good wine, beer and sake selection but being it was a lunch visit on a Wednesday, I opted out of that rebellion. We ordered the Dumplings, Shrimp Tempura, Miso Soup and Edamame to start off. To note a few items: when we received our first order, the dumplings came in a little pool of grease that was displeasing to the eye however, they were crispy on the outside and hot on the inside.The Tempura shrimp come as long deveined shrimp. Great texture and the tempura wasn't too heavy or greasy. We were a little disappointed in the rolls. The Dynamite Roll was overly spicy from other similar rolls I had at competing sushi places. My friend made an observation that the roll looked like rolled cat food since the tuna was not sliced but minced. We also ordered the Boston roll and that was overwhelming with cream cheese and not much of anything else. The service was ok but nothing noteworthy. We were served our meals and checked on periodically but there was not warmth. I'll probably go again to try other rolls but am definitely curious if the Al a Cart rolls are "prettier" than the all you can eat. read more

If you go for all you can eat, which I would highly recommend, they bring you a menu of a ton of options to choose from which include speciality rolls, udon, fried rice and tons of other options. We got there at 7:30PM and after searching for a server to sit us, the runner told us the kitchen closes at 8pm. We said it was okay but then the runner told us they were closing early at 8:30PM instead of their normal time of 9PM. They didn't have anyone waiting on the tables they currently have. So, we decided to leave although it took us 20 mins just to get there. Guess they didn't want our business and were looking for ways to kick us out. Food quality was poor after dine in opened up but we continued to support them hoping things would get better as things progressed. Our party of five were no strangers to Kyoto. We stopped by on a Thursday around 8pm and the place was packed. There's not a lot of room for larger parties to sit and we definitely felt in the way. We were quoted 15 minutes but after hearing the host quote the next 5 customers 15 minutes we knew it would be longer. We waited 36 minutes before finally being taken to a table. Once seated we were greeted and drink orders were taken quickly. Our waitress was great and paid a lot of attention to when we needed refills or more food. The concept is pretty simple: $25.99 for unlimited orders at dinner. Everything from appetizers, sushi, ramen, fried rice, and ice cream are included. I'm not sure I actually got $25.99 worth of food but ordering off the al a cart menu is just as expensive. We keep coming back to Kyoto but we always leave feeling like we ate WAY too much. Dining in during the COVID pandemic can be an anxiety ridden adventure but Kyoto did a great job! We made reservations for the all you can eat lunch buffet the day before. We had our temperatures taken upon arrival and were seated with plenty of empty tables around us. The staff wore masks and gloves anytime they interacted with us and overall, we all felt pretty safe. Kyoto is known for the all you can eat which is such a steal! Do not eat before hand to get your moneys worth! Just be aware that anything you order and can't eat ends up on your bill. The edamame is lightly salted so some people love that and some people need more salt, it just depends on your taste. There were great reviews on the dumplings and I enjoyed the fried spring rolls. For the sushi lovers - go straight to that section! My favorite is the Unagi . I also enjoyed the Unagi roll as well. The sushi overall is good, not the best sushi you will ever have but for the price, you just can't complain. I always leave a happy diner and always excited when people want to do sushi here! She threatened to add a excess surcharge for food waste when this has never happened to us before. I tried to refrain from eating lunch before coming here for dinner the other day because their AYCE menu is just so good! Love their Eel Fried Rice and Teryaki Beef! I always come with a group so we can order family style and enjoy a dozen different items. They have a ton of sushi rolls to choose from and most of their other dishes are smaller to medium tapas size portions for the AYCE menu. We arrived right at 4:30pm when they opened for dinner service and were seated at one of their large booths. The interior is spacious and the bar is in the center of the restaurant. Our server got our drinks out fast and the kitchen got our 2 rounds of food out fast too- so thankful since I was hungry and ready to stuff my face with sushi rolls, tempura, and my eel fried rice! There is also a decent amount of vegetarian options. I love how the dishes are cooked to order rather than sitting in a buffet line and you can still eat so much. They do note on their menu that there is a charge for excessive waste so try and order only what your group can finish. Some of the highlights: #9 Roll & Dragon Roll- the shrimp tempura is pleasantly crunchy and salmon, avocado were tasty, both were a hit at our table. Kyoto Roll- I didn't taste too much flavor but others liked it and it earns points for pretty presentation. Eel Fried Rice- one of my favorites! I usually start by ordering 2 small plates to "share" but end up eating most of it. Their isn't too much actual eel in the rice but they use plenty of eel sauce (mirin, soy sauce, sugar) and it is divine. Teriyaki Beef & Salmon- order a few, the texture and sauce to both are delicious and addicting! Veggie Tempura- nice variety and flavor of taro, zucchini, eggplant, etc. Any of the Fried Udon Noodles are delicious and the Udon soups while not amazing are still pretty good. Yay! So we met up with some friends at the uptown location a week prior, and decided to check out the Maple Grove location as our weekend date since all of the snow made uptown parking a hot mess. It was definitely worth it. It's easy to miss at the end of one of the massive strip malls, but there's much more parking and it's larger. We got there right before the lunch rush and were seated right away. We got the tea again, since it's still winter (I'm not bitter about that at all - I started this review feb/march). The restaurant is much larger than the uptown location, and was packed pretty quickly. The food was delicious again. I really liked the seafood udon, super yummy. Hubby tried some of the tempura this time, also delicious. And this time we tried the matcha ice cream, super good, was husbands favorite part! Just went back to Kyoto for the first time in over two years.... Very sad with the outcome. It was very sloppy and not as flavorful as when they first opened in 2015. I've been going to Tokyo since they opened in 2017. When i first ate there it is was better than Kyoto and we just never made our way back to Kyoto after that...
