I ordered the hibachi steak and shrimp and Hollywood roll for delivery. I asked for medium rare on the steak. They got the request because they wrote medium rare on the lid. What I got was some kind of soup with vegetables, a beyond well-done steak that was so overdone I literally could not chew it. The shrimp were so overdone they were like dry rubber even with all the soupy juices. The vegetables were passable. The soup base was very sweet. The sushi roll was delicious but awkward because it was hot. The "fried rice" was under seasoned white rice with random bits of egg. Really gross. Ok...wow! I just moved to St Michael a month ago and was hoping to find a good sushi spot. This absolutely was phenomenal, everything we got. I am actually surprised how much I ended up liking this place. Do not judge this place from their location or from their exterior. This place is a gem to find. I came here with my cousin and ordered some sushi to go and we were both very pleased and satisfied with our choice. Sashimi deluxe 4.5/5. Yum yum roll 4/5. Crazy dragon roll 5/5. Dynamite roll 4.5/5. The sashimi is fresh and the cut is generous. The miso that came with the sashimi deluxe was perfect. Not too bland and not too fishy, in the perfect median. The rolls were good and delicious. We will certainly come back and try other menu items too! Also, there to go packaging was so nice. They provided generous amounts of soy sauce and they even provided to go soy sauce dishes! That's the first I've ever seen. Amazing. The service was great and the waitstaff was nice. We decided to give two stars for two reasons. We orders sushi and they placed it in with the hot food, instead of a separate bag so by time we picked it up and brought it home, the sushi was warm and mushy. We love sushi so that was really disappointing. The other reasoning is the crab rangoon had little to nothing for a filling. (the soup that came with the sushi wasn't good, I guess it's a hit or miss with people) We also ordered Singapore rice noodles and I guess there was a misunderstanding and they don't have that and we were charged $14 for Singapore chicken but other then that the food was okay, and would have given four stars if there wasn't a issue. read more

Sakura Express is an unassuming eatery tucked back in a little strip mall that is quite the surprise! I wasn't sure what to expect with an all you can eat sushi place. But this place is great. Basic Asian decor when you walk in - greet the fishy! Nice and roomy booths, which is important for a portly fellow as me. This is a fave place to take my daughter who enjoys sushi as much as I do. In fact, though we come for the sushi the menu has many other great items. I should note that if you don't want all you can eat, you can order from the menu. But assuming you come for all you can eat, you will get a paper menu upon which you mark your choices and the very helpful and nice servers bring you your food. Depending on when you go, lunch or supper, it costs about $20 to $30 per person, depending on your add ons like the seafood boil. And there is an up charge if you aren't able to finish the food you order. But the food is very good. Highly recommend the friend wontons and egg rolls. All of the food is fresh and comes to you hot. Not like the chances that you take at a regular buffet where it may be warm or even cold. The sushi options are fantastic from sushimi to specialty rolls. For those that may not like sushi as much, there's hibachi options, soups, seafood offerings, and more. I have yet to order something that has not been good. This place is a 0/10. The food was okay, but the service was so horrible it outweighed the average rating of the food. It is an AYCE but you must lick your plate clean or they will heavily charge you extra for every little piece of food leftover on your plate. The owner likes policing you to ensure you finish every crumb and if you don't, she prematurely brings out the to-go boxes and starts calculating how much she is going to charge you extra right there and then. Every time we placed another order, she would come back to our table and question our ability to finish all the food that we ordered. We felt extremely uncomfortable. It was almost like we had to convince and reassure her we can eat it all before she processes the order. You pay an extra $5/person if you want to eat seafood boil. Each order comes with corn. They charge an additional $5/pc of corn if you don't finish it. I was treated so rudely by the owner, Sophie, when I brought the excessive corn charge to her attention. Instead of acknowledging where I was coming from, she straight up yelled at me in front of all the customers. What shouldve been a mutal conversation turned into a heated confrontation initiated by the owner. So unprofessional. A couple with kids sat behind us. The dad ordered AYCE seafood boil and he shared a piece of corn with his daughter. Waiter rushed up and told him he now has to pay an extra $5 for the corn because he didn't pay for her to eat seafood boil in the first place. She didn't eat seafood. IT WAS CORN! It is also "mandatory" that each protein order comes with rice and vegetables. They refuse to omit it. They add rice and veggies into all their orders because that is a way for them to pile up extra charges on your bill since one can only eat so much rice and vegetables at an AYCE sushi place. This place will try and squeeze every penny out of you. They are stingy, unreasonable, and how they treated me and that family behind us was such a shitty thing to do to your customers. Don't waste your time supporting a place that charges you for nanoscopic things. But most importantly, don't support an establishment that interrogates and disrespects their customers. This restaurant is far from valuing customer relationships. I'd rather eat at a mediocre restaurant that provides good customer service/experience than a place that has good tasting food but are extremely discourteous. *Look at how she outlined the extra charges so we don't miss it And you're damn right I packed my half eaten corn home. I've been looking for a good sushi place in the area where I can become a regular, and I think I've found it! I tried my usual--inari (tofu), salmon, and tuna sushi, tuna and spicy tuna rolls. Fish was the freshest I've had in the area, so I HAD to try the sashimi. It did not disappoint. Being from Hawaii, I definitely crave raw/fresh fish in MN. Glad to have somewhere close to me! We also had the hibachi steak, gyoza, shumai, and yum yum roll. Thank goodness they now do an all you can eat deal. Best in the St. Michael-Albertville area, hands down. read more

We Decided to visit after reading other Yelp reviews. We had the Maki dinner which has a CA roll, tuna roll and salmon roll. It comes with miso soup, but we asked to upgrade to the qyoza soup. The soup was amazing! They add crispy fried onions to the broth and three qyoza. We also order the oysters which are only offered Wed and Fri for $3 each. Those really hit the spot. Soft shell crab appetizer was ok. I have had better, but I usually don't expect a great soft shell crab since they aren't fresh and are typically frozen. Overall, we were very satisfied with our food, though we didn't get any of their special rolls or anything. We live in Loretto, mn and typically have to drive 20-30 mins to go to town. I am thinking this will be our new sushi destination. I like that they offer lunch and dinner specials with several MAKI rolls. You can't find that option on most menus. read more

People came in, sat down in dinning, and got served... I got up and went and asked again... same answer. I know it doesn't take more than 3 minutes in the deep fryer to cook softshell crab. They finally finish the order. I'm a mile away from this place. The crab was COLD when I pulled my order out. Plus.. no ponzu sauce.... they put yum yum sauce in with it. Also my eel order was cold...sitting on the counter for 30 minutes... The server apologized for the wait.. gave me a take with menu and said... here's a coupon to use next time. Those "coupons" are on every menu... That wasn't some special gift. I won't be going back... been having issues with them ever since they reopened back up. Ordered steak hibachi to go and a few additional sides. While noodles, rice and vegetables were edible, the steak was the worst I've had. Holy Moly! I was a little nervous moving out of Minneapolis and leaving all my favorite sushi places, but I found my heaven in Saint Michael! I've been living here for a little over a month, and I've been to Sakura about 12 times (probably more). Whenever I go it's not very busy, and the food comes out crazy fast and plated super nice! They have a pretty big menu for the sushi rolls, and great prices to go along with it! I'd like to try every roll on the menu at least once, and I've been truckin through it! (I'll update my review when I've finished all the rolls) So far my faves are; Tempura roll, Yum Yum roll, Spider roll, Monster roll, Hawaii, Mexican, and Spider Man. All these are super savory, a little spicy, and overall delicious! I've also been making my way through the appetizers, and I think my favorite would be the wontons. A classic done right! This sushi is amazing and the staff here are great too. I hope more of Saint Michael branches out to try this place! read more

Great food! I've only ever ordered online or over the phone for pickup. The orders are always ready on time, if not a little bit early. Lunch bento boxes are a great way to sample different dishes. Sushi rolls are always fresh and neatly packed/presented. Staff is efficient and friendly. I tend to order more than I need, but the leftovers are always a delight to eat the next day. read more

Run don't walk to this place if your a sushi lover. On weekends they have the all you can eat diner menu all day for 26.99. The sushi is the best I've ever had. I was excited for a new sushi place to open here in St. Michael, and I really wanted to like this place, but my wife and I found it mediocre at best. For starters, the decor is shabby and makes this new restaurant look run-down already. To order, you sit at your table to read a menu, then go order at the front counter- why not order from the table? The wait staff stopped by often enough. The sushi looked nice, but didn't taste very fresh (it was actually kinda bland). My wife's General Tso's chicken was pretty sad- slimy chunks of chicken with no flavor, served with a side of fried rice. The fried rice came with a side of "spicy mayo"- interesting concept... We have been anxiously waiting for the place to open. In a nutshell the cooked food was good, the sushi lacking, and the "dining" experience peculiar and felt like a place you would find in a shopping mall (yes I know it's in a mall). As for the details here goes: The layout seems like a takeout and dining place. You are greeted by a person who gets paper menus from a wall that has a condiment table with plastic utensils, chopsticks and a napkin dispenser..and says sit where you want. We sat down she gave us menus and we sat..and sat.and sat. All the time ladies walking out of the kitchen with food. We finally went up to the counter and were told we had to order there..so we ordered beer,wine and appetizers which were delivered to the table quickly. We decided on our orders and walked up and placed our orders one by one, the last person being told the bill total. I walked back to pay my share as they charge you right there after the last person orders- um hello what if we want to order more drinks? The food came out pretty quickly, we had to get our forks, chopsticks and napkins from that awkward condiment table setup ourselves (would it be that hard to bring those out for us with our food?). The pad thai was excellent (we asked for peanuts but they didnt have any). The sushi was bland. The rolls themselves had no distinct flavor. One roll came out on a styrofoam plate, the other on a decent "real" plate. I found the sushi to be similar to prepackaged type that I would get at Byerlys. Does the job but nothing special. When we were done eating, I threw our utensils in a mcdonalds type garbage can that had a "thank you" sign on it and we left. Overall this is a fast food type place. I get the name is express but when you walk in it has dining tables and booths that are deceiving. Don't go expecting much if you are looking to dine in. Its a lot of self service. I get the business model, provide quick reasonably priced food. They need to make things a little clearer- maybe put a sign on the table- and hey maybe put napkin dispensers on the tables themselves. I hope this is growing pains, but I have a feeling besides take out, this place won't cut it for anyone that is looking for place to have dinner. read more

Good food but really slow/poor service. I've had their take out which is usually fast and delicious. I have dined in before and the service was not great but tonight was the worst. It took almost an hour after placing our order to get only 2 of the four entrees we ordered. The other 2 showed up about 20 minutes later with no explanation or appology. We never got our appetizers at all. I should have known they were having problems when they only brought 2 of the 4 drinks we ordered and never brought us soup or sauces. We got our own refills and were not checked one once by a server the entire time we were there. It seemed like just about every table was being neglected by the 3 servers on staff tonite and there was no manager in sight even attempting to settle the hangry mob. It looks like it might have been a small burger joint at one point but don't let that stop you from tasting some of the best and freshest sushi Minnesota has to offer.
