I typically grab a burrito at the super Americano, but I wanted to try this Asian Café since the rating was extremely high. I purchased the chicken lo mein and triple Mongolian delight. The chicken lo mein was pretty tasteless but it was fresh and cooked well. The triple Mongolian delight was so sweet. It tasted like it was dipped in a candy bar. They also forgot the bed of crispy noodle as mentioned on their menu. The eggrolls were pretty soggy and small so the value per eggroll were not consumer friendly. I would just say skip the egg rolls. I just wanted something basic, but these items had pretty neutral flavors and we're not too exciting. I love leftovers, but these are just sitting there. Came here on a busy Friday evening with my daughter. We were greeted and seated immediately. Everyone was friendly and the place is clean. The prices are very decent considering the high food costs these days. We ordered drinks, water and my daughter had a strawberry Japanese soda. Ordered won tons as an appetizer and they were hot and delicious. The sushi came out fast as well. We tried many rolls: Rainbow Narudo, pink pale, lady gaga, a tuna & avocado role. We took sweet doughnuts home for a dessert. The sushi was fresh and presented well. All of it was wonderful and it came on a boat which was a lovely touch! Our server was on top of her game. She was friendly and let us know they were a tad behind in the kitchen, which we didn't notice at all but she was very kind. She was very attentive to our needs and checked on us just the right amount of times. I didn't go in this place with high expectations and I was pleasantly surprised! This place is easy to miss, being on the side of a mini-mall off downtown. But it's hard to overlook. Impeccable sushi and sashimi, a variety of sakes served as you like, and all your expected favorites done to a high standard. I can recommend the gyoza to start; the dipping sauce is an umami treat. What a great little Cafe. Custom bento boxes? Get out of town!! What an awesome idea. I really wanted to taste few of the great looking dishes on the menu but I had to try the bespoke bento box concept and it certainly didn't disappoint. I went with General Tso chicken, CC wontons and brown rice and they were all good. The General's chicken was not at all spicy (despite requesting extra spicy) but it was really delicious. I also added some sushi and it was also quite good. I'm going to have to go back and try some of the full order dishes because I watched many go by me that looked incredible. Especially the Mongolian Triple Delight and I think one that was the Szechaun Chicken and Shrimp. The sushi rolls also all looked great. Finally, the staff here was incredible! Having myself in a bind trying to find a good let's say "American Chinese" restaurant in outskirts of town. (I grew up in the US and I love American Chinese food ok!) Asian Cafe is more than just your average run of the mill "Dragon House"; "Flying Panda"; "Bamboo Juice" no sir/ma'am it is not. All the appetizers you could want. It had great soup selections at a great price. All the main courses any other Chinese food place would have... but then. Bam kick it up with some Bento box, how about freshly made hibachi? Sushi bar..? Don't mind if it do. Along with a great imported beer selection. Sake, and wine.. As a first timer and sushi snob I went with a couple rolls and my daughter had a bento box. Having high hopes with the small but well maintained indoor dining area, sushi bar and genuinely nice staff we got our food and I wasn't pleased. Damn. The spicy tuna pretty much wasn't in the 2 ends pieces of the roll and barely any rice to wrap the sushi with. Seaweed poking out in spots and clearly visible through the few particles rice that it was wrapped with. And the price although decent I just thought I would say something. I mean I am paying for it right? The waitress very apologetically agreed as I showed her the roll and a manager/owner came back very soon after to ask if I wanted a refund or another roll. Me being stuffed couldn't eat another roll but I wanted to see if it could in fact be better than the first roll. And POOF! There was a perfectly made spicy tuna roll at my table within a couple minutes. My daughters bento box was great. The soups were tasty and properly made. I'm giving this place a 5 star because it's easy to mess up especially these days and for something this little shouldn't mess up a review it's the expedited customer service that makes up for it hands down. A guilty pleasure of mine has always been to hunt down the local "cheap Chinese" spot. These places, while I have frequented them, I would not rate above a 2.5. I went to Asian Cafe expecting nothing more than some cheap Chinese. I was pleasantly surprised. Their food always has come out hot and flavorful. The staff is friendly and I have never encountered an unhappy person there. I have been to this spot now three separate times. Each time I was not disappointed. I just recently tried their sweet donuts. For God's sake, order these suckers! They are phenomenal. Pure deep fried sugar in all the best ways. I knocked off one star because the first time we ordered the bento boxes. My wife's rice was overcooked and the sushi in both, while it did its job, was a bit mediocre. That being said, I understand that bento boxes are not supposed to have the most high quality sushi, and this place does have an extensive sushi menu that we will be trying. Following our trying of the sushi menu, I would be willing to add that final star. Overall, this place is amazing. If you're craving Chinese and live in the Monticello area, there is no other place to recommend. Great prices, great service, great food. Might I also add that every time I have gone I have done carry out. Never had the food been late or cold. Check this place out. You will not be disappointed. Update: Wife and I finally went and got sushi for dinner. It was incredible. I wanted it to tuck me into bed and tell me a story, but I realize that would have been an impossible task since there was only one place this sushi belonged: MY BELLY! We each got the Maki Dinner Combo, and each bite was bursting with flavor. My favorite of the three rolls my combo got me was the spicy tuna. There was this deep fried undertone with this one, but a GOOD deep fried flavor! My combo also got me the miso soup and a house salad. The soup was very satisfying and the salad had an incredible ginger dressing. We have now been to this place several times and the service has always been amazing.
