The food is good lots of options. The main lady at the register had become one of my favorite people in the world she is so kind and always smiling and radiating joy and love. If you are looking for fancy and high end furnishings.. this is not gonna be your place. If you don't care about fancy furniture or maintained equipment.. however food quality and flavor expectations are mediocre.. this is your place. Ambience is casual. The furniture has seen better days. Some booths are cracked and if you have on shorts or skirts.. it may hurt. I am 4'11" and my legs hurt from the cracked and peeling seats. Bathrooms are functional and clean enough. Silverware, plates, soft serve, soda machine, cups and bowls have seen years of usage.. they could use some freshening up. Food quality is mediocre.. sometimes it's hot and fresh during lunch rush. Other times it's colder than what the health inspector would want. Food quality is decent. What I meant is that the chicken feathers are plucked from the wings and the recipes are what you'd expect from an American Chinese buffet. Price and value are great for a full belly. I found the buffet food during my most recent visit to be average - some good and some not so good. Some of the food was greasy and the sweet sour chicken cold and tasteless. My favorite was the coconut chicken and the salmon. Sometimes it's hard to avoid this place since it is only a few blocks from my place. Most convenient for our family. read more

Tried for the first time yesterday and was pleasantly surprised! First thing we noticed was that all of the tables that weren't in use were clean as well as full napkin dispensers. Workers were routinely out filling food that was getting low. The selection isn't massive but perfect for the size of buffet/price point, and food was always hot. Really enjoyed the hot and sour soup. All of the meat options were cooked very well, not dry at all. Another thing to note is the two ladies working the front/floor. Both were always busy working, clearing plates, stocking, wiping down all of the buffet surfaces to keep it clean. That's a really good sign of the care that goes into the business. Umm just pass it and head to McDonald's. I love a good hole in the wall place and had my fingers crossed. But it is not a hidden gem like I had hoped. I drive through Elk River about once a month and I stop in at the New Hong Kong Buffet about one in every three trips. The food is always hot and very tasty. They have a lot of choices so there should be several items for just about any diner. Some of the choices are tangy (my favorites) and others are more subtle but still delicious. Some of my very favorites are the egg foo young, egg rolls, fried rice, several of the spicier chicken selections and the sugar donuts. i have one of those little round donuts with a small bowl of ice milk for dessert. The cost is quite reasonable especially when they include beverages, soup and dessert at no extra charge. read more

This was my second time here in less than a month. The restaurant is clean and welcoming. You pay at the front when you come in and you can seat yourself wherever you want. There are three buffet stations with more choices than I have experienced at most Chinese buffets. We particularly enjoyed the salmon, crab legs, sweet shrimp, spicy fried chicken and the peanut butter chicken - to name a few of the available buffet choices. I also noticed that the food was all spiced and flavored differently which is a huge plus at a buffet! We will definitely be coming back again! read more

Came here for lunch on a day off from work. Was so incredibly hungry so everything looked amazing. I was unimpressed with the hibachi grill station, as there were only about 4 sauce options and the meat was not up to par with what I prefer. Lack of seasonings left my mouth watering for more. The buffet was alright--I'm pretty sure I ate a plateful of mushrooms. Not many options for chicken, as most Chinese buffets have plentiful amounts of all varieties, (I think there were two...?) The dessert section needs some major improvement, (not to mention the ice cream machine was broken when we were there) and the bathrooms...oh, the bathrooms---I hope this restaurant receives more customers to provide a small fund for a reconstruction. I have to say while most Chinese-American buffets are the same old thing with the same old lines of the same old stuff, this particular little treasure has a few differences. They also serve some japanese and mongolian foods which is a nice little switchup. Their Japanese chicken, peppered chicken and veggies, general tso's chicken and spring rolls stand out the best here. I try to get as much of a little bit of everything when I go to buffets, cuz well, isnt that the point? But I'm usually close to full halfway through the second plate and tend to waste a bit of food, which inside, kinda makes me feel like a jackass, but whatever. The family who runs the place are also very welcoming, the cook comes out and checks on peoples food/experience from time to time, never heard a bad word or given one for that matter. The hostess is welcoming and even the table busser stops and chats to be friendly. Great customer service. The only thing holding them back on a 5 star is how little they change out the fresh food. for the most part, I speak of the crab legs, the last few times ive gone I havent eaten any because i cant eat the last 3 legs that have been sitting there as long as I have... As the compliment goes "...Please sir, I want some more!" fresh output of crab legs.. We'll shoot for a 5 next time I go I suppose. read more

Just had our family of five at dinner. in one of our adult meals we found a long piece of shredded metal in our beef and vegetables dish . This was about an inch plus long like a shredded pop can. We inform the wait staff immediately. we received a very generic and Insincere apology along with an excuse about how they use the same utensils with all the dishes they prepare making it sound like cross contamination and how things get wore out it must of went unnoticed with so much use. We were credited for 1 meal . After this experience I don't want to know what's going on in that kitchen and would not recommend eating there we made that children stop eating their ice cream they had gotten and we left. read more

The New Hong Kong Buffet is one of my places to eat, and I don't get to go here often. My family typically has a limited budget, so whenever we do get the chance to come here it is always an experience that makes me happy (and my stomach full!). Great dishes, the foods always taste delicious. The fruits are juicy, and the meats are tender. At the end, I always have a small bowl of ice cream to top the experience. Pretty good for a buffet, they keep everything full most of the time and have a good variety of different entrees, more than most buffets. If you go for dinner they have crab legs but don't expect much, they're very small and people tend to stand and wait for them to be brought out so as soon as they bring em' out they're gone. I wish they'd have egg drop soup instead of the hot & spicy tofu crap, but besides that it's really great for a buffet and the variety is awesome. Ice cream too! read more

Happened upon New Hong Kong Buffet while on vacation. We were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and food quality. They also had some items we have not had at other Chinese buffets such as peanut butter chicken, PP chicken, and honey chicken. All the items were cooked just right--nothing was dry or crusty. The Hot and sour soup was especially flavorful as was their Japanese chicken. Seating and beverages are self serve which is different from other Chinese buffets we have been to. Regardless we really enjoyed the food and decided to stop there on our way home from vacation as well. Again we were very pleased with the food. Definitely recommend it. read more
