Originally, my wife and I had planned to visit a different restaurant, but upon discovering it was closed on a Saturday, we decided to give Ginger Cafe a try since it was just six minutes from my photoshoot. As soon as we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Miliah (I hope I spelled that correctly--if not, my apologies!). We were seated right away and started with the Satay Chicken and a chicken and pork egg roll for my wife. The Satay was fantastic, and my wife really enjoyed the egg roll. For our main courses, I ordered the Panang Curry combo with chicken and shrimp, while my wife had the Pepper Steak and Curry Fried Rice with shrimp. She found the Pepper Steak a bit salty, but aside from that, everything was excellent. My Panang Curry was absolutely delicious, and the service was top-notch. The manager was incredibly friendly and a pleasure to chat with, which added to the great atmosphere. Overall, it was a wonderful experience--good vibes, great service, and delicious food. I have never dined in but I always get to go. I popped in last week while in the area, so it had been some time since I had dined from here. Whoever i speak to to place my order & who i pick it from are always friendly. It is a cute location so maybe i should dine in...at least once? Last week i opted for the Thai Peanut chicken...it was delicious! I only ate about 1/3 of it so it was just as tasty several hours later for dinner. I liked it slightly better when it first opened but it is still a great place to get Thai food. The food was great and I love basil. My wife regrets getting Thai style egg foo young rather than Chinese but I knew she would. I regret not buying a 2nd order to take home. I don't like this new thing of encouraging paying with your phone. In this case using a QR code on the bill. There was no way to leave a tip but maybe that is a good thing. We left a cash tip but that wouldn't always be an option. read more

I went to visit some friends at this Thai restaurant in the suburbs. Located in a shopping strip off the main road. Abundance of parking spots to choose from. Good size restaurant, they can accommodate large parties and they offer party trays for catering as well. Family own business, the servers were related to the owners and you might see their other little kiddo playing on her tablet in the back. We ordered eggrolls, chicken pad thai, and basil wings. I was surprised the wings were stir fried like a basil stir fry, different and delicious. Definitely recommend if you're in the north metro. read more

Extremely disappointed. I got the Vietnamese Vermicelli salad. It was not nearly close to a salad. It was more a chicken breast stir fry concoction poured over the noodles. The lettuce, cucumbers, and shredded carrots got soggy from the heat from the stir fry so the whole "salad" was a total mush! Regular Vermicelli noodle salad should have crunchy lettuce, shredded carrots, and cucumbers. It was a really slimy vermicelli salad. read more

The food is fresh and the staff are very friendly. It is always a great experience going there.

Ordered two green curries and an udon. The udon was fine, but the curries were awful -- no coconut milk, barely any curry flavor, and swimming in a thick layer of grease. When I called to complain, I was told the curries were "pre-made," then the chef got on the phone, yelled that this was "how curry is supposed to be," and started using vulgar language. Ginger Cafe has a lot of variety when it comes to their dishes, but after trying a fairly wide range, it seems that most leave you in fairly mediocre territory relative to its peers. The wontons are just OK, nothing special but perfectly edible. The spring rolls are solid (and actually one dish I'd recommend)! When it comes to entrees, the fried rice dishes are a little subpar - they do a good job with proportions for the vegetables and meats, but the overall taste is on the wrong side of average. The Oudon noodles are a contrast falling on the slightly above average side of things. They're a nice thick noodle coated with a peanut base and a nice flavor profile. With several items a bit below average, and a few that are right there to maybe slightly above... this is a definitive 3-star across the board. It might give you a quick fix, but certainly won't leave you counting down the days until you come back! read more

The Ginger Cafe used to be our goto Asian restaurant. We were there this week and were very disappointed. The service was good until about the time we were finishing our meal and then the 2 servers disappeared for 10-15 minutes. There was spoiled broccoli (See photo) in the Cashew Chicken and the fried rice was white rice with a soy sauce and a couple pieces of egg. The Spring Rolls were 85% old lettuce that was brown around the edges. One thing I was happy with: The vegs were cooked perfectly. But what kind of chef would use obviously inferior vegs? read more

Incredible improvement - 5 stars! Wow, Ginger Café is so much better than my last visit a couple of years ago! (And it's light years above the older version when the previous owners ran things.) Not only is the food awesome, the place is clean and spotless with a fresh remodel. Nice! The food was good before but it's a step up now. It comes out fresh and lightning fast. They also have options to add spicy heat on a 1 to 5 scale. I really appreciate this because I love heat. Awesome! Do you see the bright colors of the vegetables in my photos? That's a sign of fresh made Asian food...not overcooked junk...like the crap that was served up at the China Dragon in Elk River yesterday. This isn't a fancy restaurant. It's nice but simple, basic, humble, and clean. The prices are reasonable too. This isn't a place where I'd necessarily drive way out of my way to visit. We just moved to the Ramsey/Anoka area and are looking for Good take out Chinese food. We ordered off the menu listed online. None of the prices are what we expected. Some things were $5-$7 increases. Ok, prices increase, we will over look that if the food is good. Get home and lift the bag to find curry all over my front seat....ugh! Ok, maybe at least the food will taste good. Nope. Singapore noodles (known for very specific flavor) are completely bland. Noodles are mush. Shrimp has no flavor. Husbands curry rice was just "ok". The egg drop soup had NO flavor. Tasted like hot water with eggs. Bright side was that my daughter liked her plain fried rice and steamed dumplings Reviews seemed decent. Not impressed. Asian food for the initiated. The lettuce wraps were tasted like chun king from a can served on rusty, crispy lettuce you to roll yourself. Not easy to do with large, steaming hot chunks in a watery sauce. Not recommended. My wife had the Massaman curry which was supposed to be extra spicy, but it was more Minnesota nice... Mild. But with extra, extra salt (she could only eat half of it). I ordered the lemongrass stir fry which was better by comparison... But the lemongrass was not the heart of the stalk but the dry end pieces which weren't edible. The server was decent and to her credit checked in on us often. Fianally, the ambiance was a bit confusing. It was new looking and nice wood, with a handful of appropriate Thai hangings on the wall-- but it came off as a little contrived or staged rather than the homey collection of statues, figurines and tapestry you normally see in a Thai or Asian restaurant. Oh-- and I can't forget the plain, utilitarian silverware we were given which had water spots all over them...ugh. We used to eat here several years ago and loved it... This place was very simple and great. I got the basil fried rice, with eggdrop soup and their eggrolls. The owners were great and the service was fantastic. I also got some jasmine tea and it was really smooth tea and not overbearing in flavor. read more

I love to order food that is full of colors, veggies that are fresh cut, and awesome flavor. While it may not be the cheapest Asian food around, it is likely the most fresh. And totally worth the extra. It can get busy here, so takeout is a good option. It's a small space for seating, so it tends to be a tad crowded. Personally, I'm a fan of their curries, curry noodles, pineapple fried rice, and most of the stir fry options. You choose the protein and spice levels! They had me at "panang curry". My fam has ordered their pad Thai, too, which was so flavorful. The curry noodle soup has been a delicious way to heal a sore throat, too! Now if they only delivered..... read more

We might have hit them on an off day, and was told one of the cooks was ill. The service was pleasant, the food was mediocre. We had chicken in a peanut sauce and the sauce was overpowering. A lady next to us ordered the same thing and her portion was twice the size of ours. The hot tea was basically water, don't know if they were trying to cut costs but the one teabag in the pot didn't do it. And $2.50/cup. A good moneymaker anyway. I will not go back, but based on other reviews our experience was maybe not the norm. There are better around. read more

Ordered take out from the Ginger Cafe. It was the worst food I've ever had, by a long shot. The pepper steak was tough and chewy. The chicken definitely tasted like it had been reheated. It felt like the food may have been prepped a day or days before and microwaved just prior to picking it up. Worst $40 I've ever spent. Although Ginger has about half a dozen tables, I would consider it more of a take out restaurant. They serve Thai and other Asian foods. On this visit I ordered steamed pot stickers, Thai shrimp egg foo young, and Chicken Pad Thai to go. The food is cooked fresh, so it took about 20 minutes. However, the free wifi made the time go quickly. All of the food was delicious. There was no sauce for the pot stickers, so we assumed we were to use the soy sauce for them. Instead we dunked them in the egg foo young sauce, which was light and slightly sweet. The egg foo young was two fairly thin patties filled with vegetables with the shrimp and additional vegetables on top. It was delicious, but I expected the shrimp to be in the patties and not on top, which was fine, but they were a little bit over cooked. I would order it again but with pork or chicken. The Pad Thai was pretty standard, although a tiny bit oily. But it tasted delicious. Not being part of a chain makes Ginger worth supporting, so although not perfect, I will certainly order from them again. read more

If you are looking for food made from fresh ingredients, it's here... If you like veggies or hate them, get something with veggies (hard to avoid). Everything is plainly bought fresh, cut and prepared in house. Amazing what a difference this makes to any dish. I had some eggrolls, broccoli, mushrooms, chicken... all different things shared at the table, and NOTHING was mediocre. Everything way surpassed expectations. Definitely need to come back. I've been to this place a handful of times since they opened and have never been to impressed. Food was always mediocre, nothing to write home about. But it's been years since I ate there last, so I decided to give them another try and ordered the seafood delight. I was very disappointed to see that it only came with 4 shrimp and a few very tough and chewy scallops that were barely edible. I ended up filling up on the white rice it came with, since that meal was extremely unsatisfying. I normally order the same thing from China Dragon a few miles away and their's includes at least 3 times the amount of seafood for a few dollars cheaper. I was also going to order the shrimp fried rice, but they informed me that I could only order it in the quart size, whereas virtually every other Asian restaurant I've eaten at has has rice available in a pint and quart size. I declined to order it because of this and am really glad I did because I expect that it would have also scrimped on the shrimp. Plus, it was $16 which is very overpriced. Perhaps they have other items that are more appealing with bigger portion sizes but I was extremely disappointed and won't be back. Waste of $20. read more

The meal was fresh and tasty. The service was good, although not lightning fast. The vegetables were cooked just right, still firm, not overdone. The sauce was flavorful. After reading some good reviews on Urban Spoon (Sorry I was straying Yelpers!) I decided to give this place a try. 1) It is TINY and not in the quiet and cozy kind of way but in the everyone can probably overhear your conversation kind of way - if you want to eat at this place I recommend you get take out. 2) Somewhat understaffed - you may have to ring that little "service please" bell. 3) The website/other internet reviews make this place sound like a diamond in the rough. Maybe I got the wrong food, but they use way too much grease in their food for my tastes. I was not under the impression that I ordered a bucket of grease. Oh well, I guess some people are into that kind of thing maybe? It got really good reviews elsewhere on the internet, so I was kind of surprised that I was left with the feeling that I wouldn't be returning here. read more
