We returned to China Kitchen with the hopes of trying something different and redeeming the restaurant. Unfortunately, we were left disappointed. We split a pork lo mein, spicy pineapple fried rice, and cream cheese wontons. The portions were great - the containers were jam packed. The flavors really missed the mark. The lo mein needed some sort of punch in the sauce. It tasted like oily noodles - we ended up adding soy sauce to help. The real bummer was the fried rice. The onions were raw, the chicken looked boiled, and there was no flavor aside from the pineapple. We chose to eat the lo mein then doctored up the fried rice at home later to make it more enjoyable. My favorite part of the meal was the order of cream cheese wontons. They were crispy and a little sweet. We arrived just before closing tonight, we were staying across the street in the hotel. This lady was so very nice and helpful, she gave us disposable knives and forks along with some plates!! I got Hunan Chicken. It was delicious, there was a tremendous amount of chicken along with vegetables!! My son had Chicken Sweet and Sour, And we split an order of Pork Chow Me Fun. If you like tough, thick brocolli stalks in your stir fry dishes you are in luck. The Hunan Shrimp is a few shrimp and huge stalks of tough broccoli in a syrupy sweet sauce. Truly an awful dish. The chicken fried rice was even worse. Pale, bleached chicken shreds, chunky raw white onion and cheap soy sauce soaked rice. Where were the carrots and peas? Sad because this is a cute, small restaurant that could have potential. Leann Chin not far away and is much, much better. BTW, the four and five star reviews of this restaurant are very suspicious. First off I want to say that Yelp is not helpful when it doesn't understand that this is a brand new restaurant and not a preexisting one. All the reviews from before 8/19 should be disregarded. This place is well known for their sesame chicken and rightly so. There is a little bit of a kick which compliments the sweetness of the sauce. 5/5 There cream cheese wonton is nice and creamy on the inside and light and crispy on the outside. 4/5 Hunan beef was good. Although not 100% as authentic as home town china, but good flavor, good spice! 4/5 I was very surprised by there egg fu Yong. I rarely order this dish because I find it a bit too Americanized, but china kitchen puts a new spin on this dish. The gravy along with the egg and meat pancake mixture was so savory! Very dainty, small little place with very bright walls and colorful decor. The food was to die for. I have never had spring rolls like these before. They were crisp and oh-so delicious. I could have eaten these alone and been happy. It is located right next to the Travel America truck-stop so naturally, we unhooked our trailer and bobtailed our hungry butts over here. They didn't mind. I had some of the best 'hot and spicy" shrimp that I've ever had. It was cooked perfectly and came with a huge order of fried rice which I didn't share with my husband. It was THAT good. The egg-foo-young was also spectacular and the pepper steak was so delicious that we ordered a second helping to go. They only serve canned drinks and their lunch buffet is 5.00$. China Kitchen may be my new go-to for Chinese food in the area. I like the thinner Lo mein noodles and have a lot more on the menu I want to try. We found the place after spouse's co-workers ordered takeout for lunch and he brought home leftovers. We went to get takeout a second time and food was good again. We recently dined in for my birthday. The lady was so nice and the food. The food was again great. Lo mein was tasty, pan fried dumplings were good and the won tons were great. We tried the sesame chicken and I thought it had lots of flavor, too. Best of all the food was not greasy, as some food can be. I was happy that they had a steady stream of customers because I want this place to last. I need to try the buffet at lunch, too. This restaurant recently changed owners and I have to say, good move! We had eaten here in the past and honestly were not impressed. We tried the new food this week and it was amazing. We ordered a variety of our favorites and every entrée was cooked to perfection. The vegetables were fresh and perfectly cooked, the egg rolls were of the hand-rolled variety, and the rice was steamed just the right way. One thing that I really liked is that the fried foods were not overly greasy and you could actually taste all of the flavors in the mixed dishes: the beef in the Beef with Vegetables entrée actually tasted like beef. Nothing we ate tasted like it was just pulled out of a freezer and heated up, instead it was bursting with fresh flavors. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone in the mood for good Chinese cuisine. Oh, and did I mention that the prices are super affordable and the portions are huge? We upgraded from white rice to fried rice for no extra charge and our family of four had two full meals with an order of three main dishes. And yes, the food was just as good the next day. This is, for the most part, an Asian takeout. They do have a dining room with a number of tables. It's a clean appearance and they are very polite. The fried rice is great because of overall flavor and they don't skimp on the fixings. Just look at the amount of scrambled egg in the total order and it speaks volumes. How many times have you seen very little egg in fried rice from other establishments? Not here. Sesame chicken is our family favorite and they don't disappoint. Someone has a review and says his wife is a sesame chicken snob... That would be my daughter. She, as well, says she approves. House lo mein also has great flavor, tons of noodles. Here's my favorite... The Mongolian beef is the cat's meow. Best I've ever had. And I eat out a lot and based on my other asian cuisine reviews, any one can see I get to taste a lot of variety. Next time I'm going throw in an order of pad Thai. If they can round out their menu with a popular Thai dish and make it right, I'm not going anywhere for that dish as well! My husband and I have been on the hunt for a good Chinese restaurant for years. We live in Albertville and usually go all the way to Wayzata to the Jade Fountain for our oriental food fix. The other night, we checked online to find a closer location and came across this establishment. After suffering through many inferior buffets, we decided to bite the bullet and give this place a try. Lo and behold, it was fantastic!! We ordered Pepper Steak, Mongolian Beef, egg rolls and cream cheese puffs. All were very tasty, freshly cooked and the portions were huge. The beef was very tender and no gristle or fat anywhere to be found. The spices were just right. My husband always likes his food extra spicy and they were eager to comply. The lunch combo sounds like a great deal and we will try it in the future. They apparently do most of their business as takeout as we were the only couple dining in the night we were there. As we sat there, many people came and went as they picked up their takeout orders. The owner, Kim, was super friendly and she even took the time to speak with us about the business. They apparently took it over 11 months ago and have been at it ever since providing the best value and drumming up a clientele. We promised to write a favorable review, so that is what I've done.
