Pretty big selection for a buffet, things tasted good but sorry to say everything was luke warm, they opened at 11:00 and we were there at 12 with a party of 7. I saw 2 booths of people eating but the food did not look dented in the pans. It says at cashier one drink limit but our waiter offered us more which was pleasant. Sushi was good, really all the food was tasty just would have liked to been able to throw my plate ion a microwave to get it hot. This is one of my father in law's favorite places to eat so I am sure we will be back. Now as I am posting these pictures and am hungry wish we were back there. read more

My 3 year old niece was charged as an ADULT because she was " to tall " for her age and when asked why and how we were told they don't charge by the age they charge by the height! So you mean to tell me that a 3 year old is as tall as an adult!? and the price menu on the wall next to the cash register means nothing!? The prices you guys came up with, you won't honor it!? Don't go here I'm serious it's disgusting, I saw all the bad reviews and said everyone has different taste buds...or maybe they are just overreacting. THERE are flies on the sushi. Pink chicken. A tasty Chinese buffet with all the staples you would expect to find. Other Yelp reviews mention cold food but I didn't encounter that. I was here at 1pm on a weekday and wasn't sure what to expect considering Covid messed up buffet dining for awhile. The restaurant wasn't super busy, but it was steady. I also noticed they have very reasonably priced takeout containers you can fill from the buffet for a set price instead of by weight which I may come back to do in the future. The only thing I would change is the little sugar dumplings hardly had any sugar on them. The egg rolls were delicious and the crab rangoons were the best I've had in quite a while. Plenty of crab in them and so tasty (I went back for more for 'dessert'). Service and drink refills were excellent and I have no complaints. ETA: One of the server was chatting with a family with two kids when one kid started to cry. The server went to the family dollar next door and bought the two little kids an ice cream cone! To be honest. Im still trying to figure out what I payed 20 dollars for. There's not much food at this buffet. You can go down the road and get more for the money. The waiter was pretty cool though. He kept calling me friend. That was rad. But not worth 20 dollars. Maybe if he smiled at me... then I could justify the price. But, in all seriousness. Stopped in for a quick dinner before a meeting and it was fairly close to where we had to be. A lot of the food that we tried was really cold and seemed to be sitting there for a little bit. It didn't seem all that fresh or replenished. A few of the items were good. The chicken wings were the nice plump ones and had a nice batter. My son even ate one. The hot or luke warm dishes were okay, not a lot of variety compared to some of the other places. A lot of the meat options looked dried out or old. They did have fresh fruit which was nice. Went around 11:30am on a weekday. A lot of the food items on the buffet line were warm as opposed to hot so would've given it 2 stars. However, if you go solely by price, quantity, and service, then this is a 4 star place. Not overly greasy and for $8 with soda included, there's not much room to complain. Ate a lot of their shu mai. This my first time at this specific restaurant. I have eaten several times at theGreat Moon Buffer in Maplewood and expected the same food and service. I was surprised they didn't have sushi. They only had 3 rows of buffet tables. I tried several different dishes. The egg foo young veggies were not cooked. The hot and sour soup was watered down with no flavor. I went to make a salad with the few choices available with only 2dressings available. One said blue cheese so I put in on my salad only to find out it was cottage cheese!!! I found someone who worked here and told her. She just replied," white cheese" and walked away. No one even cared it was in the wrong spot. Vegetable were undercooked I pot stickers too!!! Pork on a stick was delicious as well as crab Rangoon. The other dishes were just ok. . I will never go to this restaurant again. Do not waste your money here. read more

I've been a fan of the Great Moon Buffet on Robert Street in St. Paul for awhile so I thought I'd give this one a shot since I live/work in the West Metro. I stopped in with a coworker on a Wednesday for lunch and was impressed by the size and selection. All of the expected American-Chinese dishes were present, with a few new ones. As another review mentioned, there were also quite a few "American" selections, including "Harsh Browns." The food wasn't as hot as I'd have liked it to be, but I'm guessing that temperature fluctuates depending on how busy they are. Overall, it was solid meal and pretty cheap. One adult lunch was $8.88 after tax, including a drink! I also would like to mention that the service was fantastic. Our drinks never went below 1/4 full and the attendants make sure to pull plates off your table ASAP. Everyone was very friendly and accomodating. The Robert Street location is still the champion of stuff-your-face strip-mall Chinese buffets, but this one is still decent and I'd go back. read more

All the food was either under or over cooked. The selection left much to be desired. Our server was none existent I know it's a buffet, but where's the refills at? My family and I had a hankering for some Asian food. We had never been to Great Moon Buffet so we thought we'd give it a try, as we are in the area. Now, don't get me wrong, I do not expect Asian food to be authentic, especially buffet food, but I at least expect it to have a taste. Calling the food at Great Moon bland would be a huge compliment. But without sounding over-zealous, bland is the only word I can use. The "vegetable Lo Mein" was not that at all. In fact, the only vegetable in it was onion. That's it. No scarce amounts of anything else at all. The Fried donuts were completely hard all the way through, as if they were 3 days stale and sitting in the open air under a heat lamp all day. The ribs my dad had tired looked completely dry and tough. The cream cheese wontons had so little filling in them they were not worth eating, and on top of that, the little filling they did use tasted like it had spoiled or gone rancid before they used it. My boyfriend's chicken was tough and under-cooked. We tried to bring this to the attention of the lady who sat us and we asked for a refund. We had only been there for 10 complete minutes and had eating maybe half a plate each after finally giving up. Now, The lady when we came in spoke PERFECT English, with barely even a hit of an accent. But suddenly when we requested to speak with someone about a refund she almost seemed to be pretending to not be able to effectively communicate. She just kept saying "you keep plate, you try more food." Even if she couldn't communicate effectively she didn't bother going to find a co-worker who could. We walked out without a refund. We spent $38 for the three of us to dine on a half a plate each. The upside, if there is one, we all felt so sick we weren't hungry to eat anything else. hooray. If you like decent food with taste, that is not spoiled, and a fair price, avoid Great Moon at all costs. The food that needed to be hot was slightly warm in the pan. But, it was cold by the time we got back to our table. The staff was nice. But, they were really inefficient and weren't very attentive. I've had better at many other similar places. On the whole, it just seemed like nobody there cared about much of anything. Now, the worst part of this experience... Simply put. One of the main rules that shows up on their "Table Reserve" tickets states that all minor children MUST be accompanied by an adult when retrieving food. Of course, I'm para-phrasing. But, that is the what the rule stated. Yet, there were tons of little children running around the buffet and sticking their grubby little hands into the food the whole time we were there. My two experiences there have been great. I like to go this one early dinner time or weekends because it's really close to my house so that might be why. The food is really good. A lot of vegetables are fresh and they didn't over salt a lot of stuff like a lot of other buffets do. I'm Chinese so I eat a lot of dumplings, fish and stir fires there. They are well done. This is hands down the worst Asian buffet I have ever been to. I expected mediocre Asian-American food but this was absolutely atrocious. Everything was lukewarm and to say the taste was lacking would be a gross understatement. The chicken was rubbery and tasteless. In a desperate attempt to find something hot I went for the fresh pan of Sesame chicken. It was still lukewarm and almost made me vomit at the table. At the end of my meal I noticed apple pie pieces and thought it would at least provide my taste buds with some form of relief... Boy was I wrong. My taste buds would be more appreciative if I were to drink a liter of whiskey and chain smoke a pack of cigarettes, which I am now going to do in a feeble attempt to erase this awful experience from memory. I enjoy this little place,tucked into a strip mall,just off of central ave,in columbia heights.They open up,at 11am.....a good time to get there,before the place gets busy.....i like the angel hair pasta with shrimp,mock duck,chicken with broccoli,cream cheese puffs,sausages,roast duck,chicken fried rice,breaded crab buttons,etc.Lunch is $8.00 plus or minus,but it's all you can eat.....and they have ice cream,and mini cream puffs,for dessert.Wait staff,are attentive,without being over-bearing.I have never had,a bad meal here.....funny,but it seems like any chinese restaraunt i go to,no matter how dingy,or low-rent,(no slam intended),ever serves a truly bad meal!.Guess i have a soft spot,for chinese buffet food!.I recommend great moon buffet,for food,service,and price. read more

Look it's Asian buffet in the suburbs. You can't have that high of expectations. But even with tempered expectations I was saddened today. I use to eat here about once a month, but it has been a few years as we moved farther away. So when work brought me into the area I thought why not. The interior has been redone, and it looks pretty darn nice inside. The food however was bad. Most had no flavor, the few things that had flavor were poorly done. If you really want Chinese buffet and you are in the area, spend the extra 10 minutes to drive up University and hit Supreme Buffet. read more

The food is pretty good, nothing special, and unless you're a hog it's not worth the buffet price.. Edit: There are coupons for 2$ off two lunch/dinner buffets (4$ off total) on the backs of Rainbow receipts. They have updated the place and it looks nice. The food is still very decent. I've always meant to try this place and finally decided to when I missed a connection heading south to a barbecue spot: bad luck all around. I balked at the price, kind of high on Sundays there for some reason, maybe for all the shellfish, and the kid who took my money and $1 tip asked me, "Two?" (I am very big, was alone, and had already said, "One, please."); other than that, they were nice enough, and they didn't lose any money on me. I had some hot and sour soup (lots of corn starch, but typical otherwise), appetizers (so-so) and, just a little bit of many other dishes they had available, trying to find something good. Even though I could probably put away a lot given my size, I take it pretty easy at buffets, and most choices are pretty resistible here. I liked the asparagus, at least the edible part (they included the woody stocks; good roughage, but not appetizing) and the green beans, but most of the rest, while edible, was disappointing. The steamed rice was dried out and the fried rice was prepared poorly. I might have felt better about it had I paid half the price, but it was not good. Choose somewhere else. I don't like to pan places, but with the rudeness and the mediocre food, it is hard to do anything else. read more

I was pleasantly surprised at Great Moon Buffet. Yes, they have plenty of low-quality fried stuff like every other place, but the meat and veggie dishes were outstanding. Highlights were the coconut shrimp and beef with mushrooms. The steamed dumplings were also excellent, and the fried rice tasted fresh--with no creepy frozen vegetables! Have eaten here 4 times since moving to Minneapolis, my wife and I along with entire extended family are very impressed. Atmosphere is civilized and all food choices are well prepared right down to the ice cream, which has xtra good vanilla flavor. Service is great, and parking access is good. One of my favorite places to dine. The meal prices are average for a buffet but you can easily get a coupon for $2 off at any Cub Foods. Their food is almost always fresh (end of evening not so much but that is to be expected) Their 5 pepper shrimp is exceptional! They have about 3 different kinds of sushi, a fresh salad bar. All foods are well cooked, tasteful and fried foods are not greasy...The staff is always very polite and helpful....a nice clean buffet...I would recommend this one on Central Ave....much better than the one in St Paul! :D read more
