This is one of my go to buffet to eat at. Food and hibachi is always good, servers are always going above and beyond. However I have some complaints about this place. I have witness more than once when I go there etiquette are not being enforced on people that eat there. During dinner time I went I saw a young boy around the age of 12+ constantly picking food with his hands. At his age he should know better but I feel like the worker working by the food should have said something. He picked a crawfish, crab claw, cookies, and sushi with his bare hands. This same boy also grabbed a bowl, walked around rubbing, fisting the inside of the bowl and proceeded to put back that same bowl back with the clean bowls. Again the worker just watched him and did nothing. A previous time I went I saw a older lady complaining to the old men that works there about how cold the string beans was. When she got done talking to the old men she picked up a wonton with her hand that had gloves on in front of the old men that works there. He said nothing to her. Tongs are there for a reason to pick up food. Another incident a lady dropped a wonton on the ground. Instead of her just leaving it on the ground she thought she was doing good by picking it up and placing on the counter. Little did she know that 5 seconds later a worker picks up that dirty wonton on the counter and puts it back with all of the other wontons. I get the place does not want to be wasteful. However when food is out of the tray and on the counter it should not get placed back with the clean food. They use a all purpose rags to clean the counter. Nasty stuff gets spread from those rags. Now people are eating contaminated food. All of my experiences in this buffet has to be some kind of health violation. It is just beyond nasty. I will not likely go back to this buffet. read more

Standard Chinese buffet fare. Service is always decent. Food is okay though I feel the food option and taste have gone down a bit in the years. The place is generally hopping on weekends. It's usually filled with large groups so it can be boisterous with celebrations and good times. Nothing here that puts it over the top. read more

They have fixed the steam tables!!! Due to this, the food is hot and safe to eat. We were glad to know that this is true. They have a great variety of food at the buffet, and I still haven't tried the Mongolian barbecue yet. I keep telling myself that I will, but my faves keep calling me back to get stuffed on those. I do not know the names of the dishes. One is a seafood dish that has corn and a semi-sweet mayonnaise sauce. The potstickers/dumplings are very good. Service is usually attentive and we've successfully managed to get seated away from children while here. We prefer child-free places, so getting to sit as far away from them as possible is great. read more

Great Moon Buffet is my all time favorite Chinese place ! Better than salt laden Leann Chin for sure . Always hot , great heathy choices . Fabulous green beans. I am always craving the chicken and shrimp with veggies. Epic wontons , egg rolls and chicken satay . My first visit to this restaurant was in August , since then I have been getting takeout buffet once a week . If my week has been particularly difficult I will go twice . Food was not good at all, I tried chicken wings, crab Rangoon, orange chicken (was spicy and tasted like bbq, it was gross), general tso chicken didn't taste like chicken to me and had no spice to it. The beef and broccoli was no flavor, the beef was ok I guess. The noodle were ok. My son tried the hibachi and said it was ok. I think the only people who go here eat crab legs and shrimp etc. We also tried the desserts that were ok (best thing was the chocolate type cake.) server was good to us. They really need to improve on the Service. We got seated and 3 employees were standing by the drink station one was going around filling drinks off and on. We were sitting there waiting to be asked what we would like to drink and no one was coming. It was about 20 min. Still no one and my mother in law asked if we could please get some drinks. That is the only time they would come over is if we asked for a drink and refills. The Female was walking around refilling other people's drinks and was looking at our drinks and walked by. This always happens when we go to this location. When my mother in law asked for the drinks she did not respond and walked to the drink station and came back with our drinks about 5 minutes later and my mother in law asked for straws and she walked away to another table and again did not say anything. We had to ask for refills and that was the only time we got refills. We did not want to ask again. This great moon is way better than the one on white bear. The food quality here is better also. They have the Mongolian bbq here. I actually think their Mongolian bbq is better than khans. The noodles for the Mongolian BBQ is the round not square like noodles. Fried chicken here is also good. I usually make a sauce with the dumpling sauce and chili oil to dip in. If you looking for sushi here there's not much to choose from. It's just the simple rolls they have. Price is just as any other buffets. Only thing is I say that sucks is some of the people that dine there tend to be messy and have their kids running around like it's their house. It took about 20-25 minutes for the order to be ready. These are 1/2 tray orders for reasonable pricing. The portion were also generous and filled above the tray line. Crayfishes - I would not order these again. I love eating crayfishes; however, these fell short in my expectations. The tray did not have a consistent flavor; wasn't spicy, juicy, and seasoned. Some were saltier than others. The following I would buy again: Lo Mein- for $25, this is a great deal. This tasted fine. Shrimp fried rice - this tray only have a handful of the small shrimp. I had four plates of the blue crab (don't worry, I'm not one of those hog 2/3 of the tray when it comes out) kinda diner. They were fresh & oh so salty like I like em. This is a very popular Chinese buffet location in West St. Paul. It's located pretty much across the street from Tokyo 23. The look inside of the restaurant is pretty nice and they sell cute charms at the from desk. Prices are standard for a Chinese buffet. They do have a mongolian bbq station, which is really nice. They have sushi rolls, wouldn't recommend and their selection of Chinese food is average. The actual buffet section is small. The buffet here was pretty good when we ate here. Typical Americanized Chinese food. I think what impressed me was that despite being such a large selection of food items, everything here was hot and fresh. The pepper chicken was easily the best dish here, and was quite flavorful and delicious. They also have a beautiful decor inside with a small fountain full of Koi fish jn the entrance. I think what really turned me off was a lot of the bizzare foods that I feel cheapened the experience. Cheese pizza, chicken nuggets, and honest to god, they had an open container of cheese balls. The Green Moon Buffet is easily the most popular restaurant in the Robert Street neighborhood. The unassuming parking lot is always packed. The dining room always seems to be full, and there is typically a line to be seated. It's a hive of activity. Servers are constantly refilling entree dishes. There is no time for buffet options to get cold. The mongolian BBQ line moved quickly -- and I was able to enjoy some flash-fried lamb and veggies. The sauces were on the salty side -- so I appreciated the fact that soda is included in the buffet price. The potstickers they offer are steamed and fried -- which left them the right combination of moist and crispy. There are many fried options, salads, and desserts. My companion found plenty of items to fill the plate... but I found myself adding Siracha to almost every entree in an effort to create flavor where little existed. I love the food there, I have went to other buffets but they just don't compare to them.

I brought my mom, sister, nephew, and roommate here after a long Saturday morning of hitting garage sales. There was plenty of parking, which surprised me since I know they get really busy. We just beat the rish, which was perfect! We got there right around noon. First thing I did was head to the Mongolian stir fry station. I like my standard mix of pork, onion, mushroom, water chestnut, broccoli, and plenty of garlic and other tasty sauces. I like to splash a little of the Mongolian sauce on top after it is finished cooking for a little extra flavor. I skip the noodles so I can throw in some rice instead after cooking. Just a preference of mine. Their fish is my favorite anywhere and the little sushi wall hasn't disappointed me yet. I love that they have extra bottles of the topping sauces so you can add as much spicy mayo and eel sauce as you like! Seriously, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the food here. So good. The waitstaff was very attentive, clearing plates almost as fast as we finished them and keeping our drinks topped off. I usually avoid bathrooms when I go out since they can be gross, but I had to go here and it was refreshingly clean and well-stocked with product. My main complaint is that while my family has come here to eat fairly regularly, it feels like the service needs to improve. I was never once asked if I wanted a refill of my obviously empty glass of water, however my husband was offered a refill of his soda numerous times. The seats are in utter disrepair. My daughter, who is 2.5, was went to sit down in one of the booths, and was caught and scratches relatively badly on her back by a stray button from the chair. The employees only said that the manager was not in today and that they would let them know when they come in and then offered me a free meal..I feel like offering me a free meal in return for my daughter being scratched badly down her entire back by a poorly maintained booth chair is laughable and an insult. A-OK is a good summation. Staff is friendly and attentive. There are plenty of choices with a heavy reliance on seafood, especially at night. However, if you really pay attention it's hard not to notice that the fried shrimp is mostly breading, the 'drawn butter' for crab logs is not butter. It's some oily yellow liquid with a 'butter flavor', except it's not a good flavor. The best choices? Fried rice, fried chicken wings, pepper chicken, pot stickers, the salad bar, green beans, broccoli beef, and lo mein. Drinks are included in the price and the price is pretty reasonable. This is my second time eating at this buffet. We took my mother-in-law here for seafood because she was craving for crab legs. We went there around 4 pm and there was a long line. We waited for almost 20 minutes. The restaurant is clean with nice decorations. Cons: The food selection was good, fresh and hot. There were a lot to choose from including a small sushi and hibachi stations. The service was great. The waiters were always coming by to take away our old plates even with a full restaurant. I'm sad to say that this place just isn't what it used to be. I don't go there anymore. The service is still great, and it still gets pretty busy. But it's just not the same. The deal breaker for me was a Tuesday night. My soda glass had food stuck on the side and the top of my soda had this greasy film on it. I just about puked. And the same night, my sister got some crab legs that were ice cold, soggy, and tasted like bleach. She informed our server, who did nothing about it. That day we swore we'd never go back. And we haven't since. I still give it 3 stars because it's not terrible. It's just your average buffet now. It has it's good moments. But there are better, cleaner, places. And to be honest, a restaurants cleanliness is a make or break thing for me. And Great Moon just grossed me out to the point of no return. Most of the time the food was cold, tongs greasy, old food floating around in the sauces, dishes dirty. It just made me wonder what the kitchen looks like. Even the hibachi grill has a nice 1 inch thick layer of grease, which it didn't use to have before. Just look up at the celing if you're there using the grill. So as much as I hate to say it. Move over, Grand Buffet. Great Moon Buffet is after your customers, and it looks like they're winning. Great Moon was busy at 15:30 on a Saturday, with a line to the door and a ten-minute wait for seating. By 17:00, the line was out the door. Why does everyone want to get in? Answer: The food is good and the service is excellent. Great Moon Buffet has some of the most accommodating staff I've ever seen. First case: My mom went for dinner, but wasn't very hungry (she wasn't alone; my dad paid full price, I wasn't there). She asked if she could just get soup, and was charged a mere $2. Second case: There is a pretty substantial increase in price between lunch and dinner rates. Inquiring about getting the lunch rate at 15:40 (ten minutes past their switchover time) when we'd been in line since 15:25 was successful. The only condition: No seafood. That wasn't a problem, since seafood isn't something my family normally eats at Chinese restaurants. It was completely on the honor system. Absolutely incredible. The food isn't drenched in heavy sauces, which is something other restaurants sometimes do. It's not particularly healthy or appetizing when they do that, so Great Moon Buffet's omission of most heavy sauces was welcome. All in all, it's a pretty good value and an excellent example of good customer experience. read more

I found the buffet where quality and quantity are equally matched. I can't begin to describe all the food,the buffet speaks for itself. A couple of things I've never seen before, a macaroni salad on the salad buffet. With the entrees, some really good fried fish. I said they have waiter service, because they are there to take your drink orders, and walk around giving refills. Drinks are included in the price. I tend to go at lunch time because it's cheaper.Go as early as you can, the lines are nuts. The first time I went was last Christmas and it was pretty full then. There are many here who don't celebrate or do on a different day, i.e. Orthodox Christmas is Jan.7 for me. If you go on Christmas you will not feel like you're missing out on a holiday, because this place is such a treat, and no traffic. read more

Man we eat way too much at the Great Moon Buffet. But that's the reason we love coming here. I read the other reviews and I'm wondering if the negative reviewers pulled into the wrong strip mall and ended up at Old Country Buffet further south down Robert. Because all of their negative comments definitely fit in at that buffet dive. First, yes it's in a strip mall sandwiched between a Hardware Hank and a Radio Shack if memory serves. My wife and I first wandered in here years ago when we started dating because it was within walking distance of her apartment and we figured what the heck. I'm the heck glad we did, it's become our favorite place to go on special occasions with the kids and our family. The decor is 100% Asian as it should be, right down to the water fountain with real carp as you enter. The fountain is great for occupying little kids if you come during busy lunch or dinner rushes. And if you go to any popular restaurant during a rush, expect to wait. Is this a new thing for some people? Here's a tip, go an hour before lunch or before dinner like we do. By the time we're leaving after eating, the line is out the door and yes I can feel several eyes boring into the back of my skull waiting for us to leave so they can sit at our table. So why is the line out the door during lunch and dinner rushes? Because the food is very good and there's plenty of it. Want only fruit and salad? You can have that. Want traditional rice and spicy meats served in various ways? You can have that. Want a Mongolian stir fry where you choose your own ingredients and they prepare it on giant drum cooker in front of you? You can have that. (My favorite too) Pastry desserts, cream puffs, self serve ice cream where you can put some of that fresh fruit as your toppings? You can have that but don't make a meal out of it - sorry I'm a Dad. My parents who a fanatical picky eaters complained non-stop when we took them here until they started eating. Then they started trying different things and going back for different plates. Our boys are like little pac-men - lucky they love fruit but they also try things we put on their plate too. So our table's ages from 2 to 67 were all happy with the choices and the food. I'm not Asian but I love spicy food and I've eaten at several other Asian restaurants in town and really don't care if I ever go back to them. But I try to eat a new dish every time I come here. We definitely don't leave without feeling full. It's not fine dining. Don't expect the wait staff to tuck your napkin in your shirt and cut your meat for you. And the staff is 100% Asian so I can't imagine the cooks are different, the food tastes authentic enough for me. If your expectations are appropriate, you will absolutely get your money's worth and enjoy yourself. And get here an hour before the rush. read more

This location is very similar to the Great Moon in Maplewood, however the chef is different and you can tell. There are a few good items here that are not at the Maplewood location and then vice versa. This location has better pork eggrolls, seafood selection, soda selection, fruits, salad bar, build your own stir fry, and veggies. The other place had better cheese wontons, egg drop soup (they put PEAS in the egg drop soup! Ewwww.. now all I tasted was peas. No egg in the egg drop soup), hot and sour soup... plus the service is better at Maplewood. I can see why Maplewood is busier than this location. The service is better. Good value for lunch but not for dinner. Selections for dinner don't make it worth the extra you pay. Go for lunch only. read more

Got to dinner at a reasonable time on a Saturday night, called ahead and checked what time they closed. Many dishes were completely empty and not being refilled. Tables were already turned on their sides as to not be used anymore. An employee was grabbing condiments off of the tables and came to our table and took our condiments away as we were still here eating. There was no being checked on from employees. As dishes continued to run out employees came out with pots full of freshly cooked food set them on a table , pushed together four tables and EVERY employee that worked at the restaurant sat down and ate , and completely acted like there were no customers. I get it , they've had a long day but for everyone of your employees to be taking a break at the same time on a Saturday night at a buffet is ridiculous! Definitely not worth the $34. read more
