Went on a Saturday night for the all you can eat sushi, which we enjoyed. I wont go into the food at length, but here are a few highlights. 1) they have some great tasting water, 2)the creme brûlée tastes a bit too eggy (like boiled yolk), 3)if you've been curious about Sashimi or Nigiri, or anything else, this is a great place to give it a try. The yelowfin sashimi was really good, mild not fishy, and so tender. A few things to note: -Getting a reservation for 8 people on the same day wasn't hard. I'm not suggesting you wait last minute, but if it works out that way... you may still find good time slots. -A $10 per person HOLD was placed on our organizers card. In the event someone didn't show up, only then would that $10 be charged. One person canceled last minute, and just venmo'd her for the cost incurred. -Arrive on time. They prefer to seat the group all at once, so if you have folks in your group who are perpetually EXTREMELY late, pick them up, don't invite them, give them an earlier arrival time or take your chances. -I highly recommend perusing the menu and photos beforehand to gain an idea on what you want. Although there's 1-2 tablets on the table, with several people sharing it, especially in the beginning, it can be a bit much. You can always use your phone, but the online menu doesn't include many photos, which can be helpful for some. -Food started coming out within 7mins after we ordered. It came in waves, but kept flowing. Our waiter, was very patient and polite as we continued to order more. We were mindful of their wastage rule. In the end a few pieces of rolls and little bit of squid was left, but we weren't charged for that. A couple of items ordered in the beginning never came out, but seeing that we're charged a flat price, vs per item, we didn't sweat it. The entrance was fancy with its big door which then took us into a cozy, warm, and minimalist ambience making it feel fancy and worthy of a first year anniversary date night. Hot take: this might be the BEST sushi spot in the Twin Cities. Parking was easy, and I love the giant front door--it somehow makes the whole place feel welcoming before you even step inside. This might be my favorite sushi spot in the Twin Cities! I LOVE the variety and quality you get for $50 AYCE. I prefer the dinner option since you get more options than the lunch special! My all time favorite bite is the Dragon Ball appetizer, it's a wonderful avocado lined bite with crunchy tuna in the middle! I definitely recommend. Dessert was ok, cheesecake was a pass. I almost thought they got rid of their snow dessert which was a bummer but I just had to click on the right thing on the iPad and was glad they still had it since that is the best part! On a Saturday night, it gets pretty loud so it's a little harder to have conversations or hear the server. There were a few hiccups on orders but nothing to get fussy about, especially when the staff is so friendly. Took about 30 minutes to get a table on a Friday night. We had plans after dinner and let them know we had about a hour till we had to leave and the service was great! Came here a lot when it first opened. Finally doing a review and came here during a weekday lunch. Price when I went this time was $29.95. It used to be $24.95 earlier this year.. The space is clean and very open. Sat at the bar area this time on as we came during peak lunch hour and still had great service. The server was attentive and dishes came out quickly and dirty plates were being taken away just as quick. The food is definitely more upscale than the typical AYCE sushi place in MN. One thing I think that sets Ichiban apart from the rest is how well they prepare their rice. It has a nice subtle tang from the sushi vinegar that helps to balance the fish. The nigiri is the best thing here. The sushi rolls are above average and hit the spot when you have that sushi craving. The chicken karaage is a must get: it always comes out piping hot and crispy. The tempura plate was average, the vegetable tempura a little too oily. Lastly, the ice cream mochi tastes just like the one you get in the grocery stores. Overall quality of the food is 4/5. This was my go to AYCE sushi spot when they opened, but now I don't think I would come here frequently mainly due to the increased price. The sushi rice actually had a tangy flavor and you could taste it in every order which brought depth to all the dishes. There was a small butterness and tenderness to the fish but I've had higher quality elsewhere. The things that really sold me were these three specialty rolls, baked scallop, baked salmon, and Escalade. By far the most unique and flavorful rolls I've ever had with a great texture. They are a must try. The appetizers were also great too, my favorite were the squid salad and beef takaki. We went for lunch on a Saturday, which you pay dinner prices for, but for the food and service that we got that day, I am okay with! My sister ordered some appetizers that I typically wouldn't order on my own, and they were so good! The jalapeño yellowtail was perfect with a slight kick of heat and the sauce the fish was in was delicious. We also did the crispy rice tuna, it wasn't bad! A little too much rice for me, so I don't think I'd order it again. For the sushi, Our pieces of sashimi were so thick and perfect! And we ordered a #9 roll, which is my fav, and it did not disappoint. We also did a Philly roll, it has smoked salmon and a scallion (wasn't my fav) and an avocado salmon roll which was great! The service was super abysmal, the host was not welcoming and our server, Lei did not come by often. We had to get the runner to get our server for us once. The food was also subpar this time. The nigiri we ordered all felt like misses, it just did not taste fresh. The teriyaki salmon was good and well cooked, though. The stir fried udon and yellowtail was a standout miss. We didn't finish our roll and the udon at the end of the meal simply because it just did not taste good, and Lei threatened us with the waste charge saying that we'd have to pay extra if we didn't finish. He insisted, even when we told him the dish didn't fit our taste. If people can send dishes back at a regular restaurant and get them taken off the bill if they're not good, why can't the same concept be applied to AYCE? AYCE shouldn't mean you have to force eat mediocre food just because you ordered it. I'm not a big fan of sushi but a friend wanted to meet up here for lunch. Really glad he made the suggestion because this was a fantastic experience and value. The space is bright and open with tons of tables and bar seats. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and attentive; happy to answer any questions and accommodate requests. For $27 AYCE lunch, this really is hard to beat. The quality/price ratio is through the roof. Even ignoring the great service the food tasted fresh and love ordering ad-hoc so that everything is fresh and waste reduced. Favorites were the Pepper Salmon, Hibachi salmon, and Kani Salad but all the dishes tried were great. You can ask to omit the noodles/rice for the hibachi and teriyaki if you don't want them. The miso soup and salads were great, light palette cleansers and recommend them. The Agadashi Tofu was light and crispy but slightly under-seasoned, IMO. Would still get it again. Finished with the Red Bean Ice Cream, which was good, but don't think it's worth the stomach space. Already planning a return trip and would love to check out the dinner menu. I brought my family here because I genuinely enjoyed the food the last time I visited. Unfortunately, this experience completely ruined this restaurant for me. We were told to quiet down our baby because they were "being disruptive." Let me be very clear a baby scream, babble, and make noise. They do not understand when you tell them to "be quiet." That's normal child development. When the manager told us our baby was being disruptive, I looked around the restaurant and pointed out that the restaurant was already loud to begin with. There were conversations happening at every table, dishes clanging, and plenty of background noise. I told him that if being loud was really the issue, then he should be going around telling every table to be quiet not singling out a family with a baby. My baby wasn't throwing a tantrum or running around the restaurant. They were simply making loud baby noises. We do everything we can to be respectful of other guests. We keep our baby entertained with toys and videos and try everything we can to minimize the noise. Despite that, the manager told us we needed to take our baby outside. I explained that my baby was already calm and simply likes to scream because they're a baby. His response was that we either needed to control our baby, take them outside, or leave because the baby was too loud. I even asked the manager if he had children of his own. He said yes, which made his response even more disappointing. Any parent should understand that you can't just tell a baby to stop making noise. I've never felt so unwelcome at a restaurant. Instead of treating a family with a little understanding, we were made to feel like we were a problem simply because we have a baby. Congratulations you've lost customers for good. We won't be back, and I certainly won't be recommending Ichiban Sushi to anyone. If I could leave 0 stars, I would. read more

Been to Ichiban many times and it is fantastic! Compared to other all you can eat places it is more expensive but the quality is vastly superior. They have a nice ambiance while not feeling stuffy. The staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable. The sashimi was very tender and delicious - the tuna was my favorite. The crunch roll had a great texture and was the best roll there I have tried. I'm so bummed that I forgot to check in when I was enjoying dinner at Ichiban, so I thought I'd write a quick review. I was there in a party of four. We were promptly seated and greeted by our waiter for the evening. We were happily surprised that raw oysters on the half shell were the special for dinner on Tuesday night... What a treat! My husband and I love coming there specifically for the ocean fish menu items. I am ever impressed with how fresh everything is here and IMHO for all you can eat sushi/sashimi/maki the variety of available is unmatched in this land locked area in the middle of Minnesota. I'm not even going to try to list all of plates we ordered between the four of us. Everything was fresh and flavorful (tempura, Katsu, teriyaki, gyoza, Creme brûlée). The honorable mentions are the fresh oysters, my personal favorite - the spider roll, and today we tried the surf clam nigiri. Tips if it is your first trip: You're limited to two hours. Each person can only have three menu items on order at any given time. No new food can be ordered the last half an hour of your two hours time-slot. Do the hot tea, your digestion will thank you. Everything is so good that you will be tempted to eat a little more than fits comfortably. (especially since rice expands in your stomach.) We will be back. read more
