My husband found Hikari first and insisted we visit. I didn't even know about Eat Street Crossing, so the whole thing was new to me. So Eat Street Crossing is a food hall, with lots of different fun food vendors. There's a "host" stand at the front, but it's not really a traditional restaurant. I think the person at the stand is just there to help with questions and directions. So anyway, the sushi bar is right in front of you as you walk in. You order at the counter, are given a little buzzer and wait for your food. We went for lunch and when we arrived, there was just one guy behind the counter. We perused them menu and ordered: a trio of handrolls (what a deal at $18), the audi roll and the hikari roll. I thought we might have under-ordered, but it was plenty of food. The one dude behind the counter was in the unenviable position of having to prepare food while also taking orders. He managed it though, and our food was ready in a reasonable amount of time. The sushi was delicious. The fish was very fresh, the other ingredients also very fresh. The hand rolls were unique in that they are actual rolls that look more like logs than the traditional cone. But still delicious nonetheless. If I had any feedback at all on the sushi itself, it would be that the rolls were SO large that honestly I had trouble eating some of the pieces in a single bite. The rolls were pretty wide circumference wise and the pieces were generously thick. But they were very close to too large. I kept looking around to see if anyone was noticing my very poor sushi eating etiquette as I tried to deal with this. Fortunately, everyone was busy with their own stuff. We happened to sit pretty close to the host stand and I asked the guy there what the building used to be ... it's obviously old, with huge wooden beams way up in the rafters and lots of cool staircases running up to what I assume would have been at least the third level back in the day. He told me they used to paint big giant banners/signs in the building. I just thought that was a really cool piece of trivia. Anyway, loved the food, loved the design of the actual restaurant. I was obsessed with the graphic hanging on the wall and the cute goldfish hanging from the ceiling. My only true complaint is that the EDM music was pumped up way too loud for this old lady and her old ears. But other than that, totally enjoyable. Will definitely return. read more

I'll lead with the no biggies. To pay $4 for a Diet Coke that someone has to get from the back that is warm, need to find your own ice and glass that has no carbonation or flavor and noted to have an expiration date from 18 Months ago. Of course the place where you have to do everything yourself also wants a 20 percent tip but that's not the hill I can die on for this review because everything else was terrible. Dude wasn't sure which order was mine when I came up to get it so who knows right? But it was garbage sushi. Truly. No freshness and really weird. It looked very odd but both the freshness and flavor was off. I've had sushi many places and this was inedible. And so expensive for no service! I paid $40 to not eat or drink anything and to be satisfied by a Burger King stop. I'd be so curious as to what this place think it did well. Service? Nope. Quality anything? Nope. At one point someone took my chopsticks away but left the garbage sushi. So she saw I wasn't eating it, took my utensils away but left the garbage sushi. Was I supposed to just motor boat it! Phenomenally fresh! We really enjoyed our trip to Eat Street Crossing. This was our main course and while we almost couldn't finish it was certainly the highlight. Fish was extremely fresh and the flavors mended perfectly. Our only regret was missing out on the Toro which had already sold out. Will be back! Disappointing visit, especially with the other reviews praising this place. We had spicy tuna, salmon, and crab hand rolls. And the rainbow and sexy salmon roll too. The hand rolls were pretty good, and I would probably order them again if I came back to eat street. They had a nice balance of texture and flavor. The special rolls were really disappointing. It could be because we went on Thursday and the main sushi chef wasn't there, but it felt and tasted like convenience store sushi. The wrap on the rolls fell apart when picked up and the rice could have been just regular white rice because there was none of that vinegar taste, even in the hand rolls too. The overall flavor of the special rolls was also just not there, it felt like eating a cold plain ball of mush. There's not a distinct flavor with the roll like how other restaurants have. read more

Located in the eat street crossing food hall. Lots of seating available. Parking is ok with their free lot but the area is a little hard to get to. Every aspect of the sushi is done very well! I was really was impressed with the quality, texture and flavor of the rice. Its fluffy and soft. The fish pieces are large, melt in your mouth and flavorful. This place has tuna belly (churo toro) which is uncommon to see and find! Rivaling the selection of Chef Baaska and Billy sushi but more accessible to the average person. In the future, I hope they will offer a chef's choice nigiri flight. This quality of fish could shine in a nigiri. The rolls are large and a good price. The salmon hand roll has full intact pieces which in my opinion is better than the minced fish. My favorite was hirkari roll followed by the salmon hand roll. The owner Jason is very nice and passionate about his food. Sitting at the bar and talking with him is a really a true Japanese experience! read more

A new hand roll bar has opened in Minnesota!! Located in Eat Street Crossing (great location with other restaurants in the food hall). When I went there, it was still soft opening so, it was not as busy yet. The worker was super friendly and informative. My friend and I got the spicy tuna, salmon, yellowtail, spicy crab and scallop hand roll. The worker informed us to eat it right away, or the seaweed would get soggy. I would say each roll is very simple and basic but that's what I like about it. It will definitely fill you up quickly. Each roll was stuffed and kept me very full. I was only able to eat two hand rolls before getting full. My favorites are the salmon and spicy crab. I'll def want to come back and try more out! read more

Eat Street Crossing's food court has Hikari which is known for their hand rolls and they are good! It was fun getting to know Jason, one of the chefs, as he talked about the restaurant and his knowledge in sushi. I liked the spicy scallop handroll which is a popular one. I also had a 6 piece premium sushi order that was a treat if you like toro. They ran out of uni but he added extra toro on top which was awesome. My husband and I went for a late lunch on a weekday afternoon, and we were served promptly. Although, I do have to say that the pieces are bigger than usual. Overall, it was decent sushi. I love sushi and have struggled to find good quality sushi that is even somewhat affordable in the Twin Cities, and this place definitely delivers on both counts. I went with a friend and we tried the Hikari sushi roll, which for $22 is sizeable and packed to the brim with fresh sushi-grade fish.
