Their entry way is in an alley facing the parking structure, so it's kind of strange.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] First thing I saw when I walked in was their pet dog sitting by the kitchen. ?!?!? Isn't that a health code violation? Or are rules different in MN? [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is quite big. Our server was very friendly and upbeat and brought everything to us quickly. We ordered the Mee Kay Teeh (rice noodle with red curry) as was recommended by our server. It was a basically a noodle soup, reminds me of Khao Soi but rice noodle instead of egg noodles, and red curry instead of yellow curry, it was very good and hit the spot on a cold night! We did an online order and the doors were locked, all chairs were up, and we could not get in. The open sign was on. We called the number on the website and the door which was the same number. It rang and mailbox was full. We knocked on the door and no one answered. I want to get our money back and will never be going again. I definitely should have stood on not returning here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we walked in it seemed pretty slow. Only seen 2 men sitting at the bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We stood at the host stand where they had a sign that said to ring the bell for service. We were sat near the back of the restaurant but a football game was coming on soon (which they have tv's in the bar area) so I asked if we could be moved to the bar area and she handed me the menus and said to sit where ever (she was nice about it). The bartender/waiter came out and served us, he was cool but would disappear to the kitchen for long periods, when we were ready to pay I had to get up and go to the kitchen to let him know we were ready to pay. [[HIGHLIGHT]]One of the men sitting at the bar (by garnishes, bottles and glasses) was coughing and wiping/blowing his nose at the bar and placing the dirty tissues on the bar top which was gross.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The two men went out side a few times to smoke and the guy would come back in coughing even more aggressively and post pandemic that was concerning.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As the waiter was bringing our food he could tell we were grossed out and he stood back as the man was coughing before placing our food. He made a comment to us about the guy coughing but didn't say much to him directly. I've never worked in the food industry so I'm not sure how these situations are handled but I was definitely super uncomfortable and eager to leave. Needless to say not my crowd. It has been a LONG time since I've been here. It used to be my favorite Thai place, but that was before I explored other great places MN has to offer. Honestly, it held up. The flavor's are great. However, I ordered Pad See Yew and Drunken Noodle and I honestly could barely tell them apart. I know they are similar dishes, but a little more variation could help. Lastly, I remember the Fried Rice being really good, and that's primarily what I wanted to review... but they forgot my order and I didn't want to correct the issue (luckily I ordered too much anyways). Have not had a good experience with this place in the two times i've tried ordering from here. The first time, I was gifted a giftcard that the employee never set up properly so I had to go back and forth with the manager to get a second giftcard. Second time around, I called in for a pick up order that they said would be 35 minutes. I arrived 50 minutes after my call only to be told 10 more minutes. There's also a line of people that are complaining about the poor service they have received here as well. The food is ok but this place is so poorly ran that I don't recommend going here. read more

Was walking around in Uptown and decided to stop by and check out what was still open as we were looking for a patio. Their patio was open! Score! They did have inside seating available, but we wanted to take advantage of the weather. Social distance and masks were used. Service was fast and friendly! They had Happy Hour! Score again! A single server was caring for all tables in the dining room (12 at least) and also bartending. Felt so bad for the guy I wanted to pitch in and help him but was in a hurry. Food was okay, my friends buddha's delight was large portion and lots of fresh brightly colored veggies. My papaya salad was meh at best- just a pile of pale grated papaya (short strands like they don't have a mandolin in the kitchen or someone didn't know how to use one). The usually punchy dressing, which brings everything together should be a delicious balance between salty, sour and sweet, but was so bland and flat it was like Wishbone had made it. If you love papaya salad, I'd recommend Bagu (where you can have it Thai or Hmong style- best in town) or Gai Noi for the real deal. Don't think I'll be back. read more

We had high hopes when this place arrived several years ago to the bldg formerly known as Calhoun Square. After all, we had enjoyed our times at their former location on 25th and Hennepin and their tiny predecessor down the street Tum Rup. Why wouldn't this place be bigger and better than both combined? sadly, just as the old name of the host building is troubling, so is the occupant. We are in the neighborhood so even though it's not a favorite haunt, we would occasionally stop by as some friends go there and location is convenient. But no more. Can't do it anymore. So many negative experiences there, we can barely remember them all or come up with many nice things to say. Well we liked some of the bartenders which they have since fired. Is that positive? Thing is, the place started off average at best and has only gone downhill since surviving the pandemic and all the rioting in the area. Really sad. They've become bitter hangers on instead of triumphant survivors of the unpredictable setbacks. First visit there, I ordered pickup but decided to eat it in house. Well, they provided me with nothing more than the plastic spoon and styrofoam container my soup came in. Real great meal at the bar. Not. But give them a chance to grow into the new location right? Time and time again the food here has been bland and not really worthy of calling Thai. Thai to me at least, means packed with some heat and flavor. Back to the bar, unlike the former tenant of that space, the mighty Chaing Mai Thai, their bar is right in the middle of the dining area. They ripped the walls down for what? so it could be awkward having bar conversations around family diners? Maybe for kiddos to learn some new words from the neighborhood bar flies? Who knows. All I know is nearly every time I walk by that place or regretfully walk inside for a beer, there's literally nobody manning the taps and bottles let alone at the host station. What is even stranger, the owners/de facto bartenders even have a meltdown any time someone leaves due to their lack of servicing to the bar. Like they practically chase down the people asking them to come back. So strange. They just don't get it. Youve got to be around for us to get a round. (See what I did there? Rule one of having any decent bar-- have someone always there. Rule two is have someone always there. The money and time you save by floating around and rarely being there means nothing compared to the bad word of mouth you're getting for being absent. Lots of "never going there again" energy. Speaking again of the bar, even when someone is there to pour another issue is the staleness of the taps. They clearly aren't cleaning their lines, another corner cut in this ramshackle operation. They do have a happy hour which like everything else here is painfully average. Which would be whatever. But they don't even honor their pricing. Our friends and ourselves have noticed the bill being full price no matter the time or promised specials. Interactions I've had with the owner(/bartenders/everything else) have been a mixed bag. She seems nice but distracted always but Vince (?) is almost always just being a total D. (D stands for whatever you want). He will let a patron know he doesn't like them. Weird he doesn't like the people throwing money his way. I don't think being a weirdo hot head is a good trait for running a place. Maybe running a place into the ground. Anyway if you think I am an exaggerating go find out for yourself but bring your own sriracha and an abundance of patience, especially if you enjoy a bar-side view. read more

I had Roat Osha for takeout last night. I started off with some pork spring rolls that were delicious, and the two dipping sauces that came with it were very tasty as well. The starter was my favorite part of the meal! I had veggie pad thai for my entree. It was pretty good and satisfied the craving but still wasn't the best I've had. I selected level 4 spice...definitely had a nice kick to it but I'd say on the mild side for level 4. We were seated rather promptly, but the hostess gave an eyeroll when we asked about the happy hour menu--as if we were a table full of cheapasses or something. Anyhow, my selections included: 1/2 order of fried spring rolls(HH deal), 1/2 order of Thai Dumplings (HH deal), Garlic Pepper w/vegetables w/chicken stir fry (3 star spicy) Before any food came, we were given a condiment carousel with jalapeno peppers, chili oil, another sauce, and sugar (??) The thai dumplings came plated nicely, but the only sauce that came with them was the stuff drizzled over the top. Some to dip would have been nice. My companions ordered some spring rolls for themselves and they looked so good I ordered some as well. Nice amount of crunch/wrapper/filling ratio. These came with a peanut sauce that had hints of sesame in it. Liquid based; not the thick kind you get with chicken satay. As indicated, I ordered my entree 3-star spicy. It was not indicated as a spicy dish in the menu; hence the 3-stars. It couldn't have been more than 1-star. No heat at all. Some chili oil helped, but it could have been a lot spicier. The rice comes plated separately in a little teacup that is very hot to the touch. Our actual server was pleasant and checked in regularly, though she did forget our water refills on one occasion. I wanted drunken noodles! But this is what I got. I thought they had brought the incorrect dish, but the waitress confirmed this was their drunken noodle dish. Then she proceeded to say that if I wanted noodles, then what I wanted was pad Thai. I could not find one noodle in the entire dish, it was super disappointing. I have long been a fan of this now hidden gem in Uptown Square. Far tastier than a flashy competitor across the street, they use more than just the same three veggies in every dish. But that's a low bar to pass...I really like the basil shrimp appetizer, white ginger stir fry, Massamun curry, and the red curry peanut dish with broccoli and pork. This place came highly, highly recommended from one of my coworkers, so on the last night being here a few of us came to check it out. Appearance/Atmosphere: I LOVED this place and the way it felt inside. It wasn't a hole-in-the-wall type of place that I expected when I hear of a Thai restaurant. This place was located Uptown Minneapolis across from the parking garage. Gigantic sign, big brick building that's connected to other businesses on the same strip. Inside had a very modern and oriental feel to it. Lots of Asian-influenced art all over the restaurant with a bar area up front and casual dining in the back. My only gripe so far was with seating 4 at one of the booths, it felt very cramped, unless I'm just too big. Oh well. Service: Molly took excellent care of us. She knew the beer menu inside-out, made great recommendations and handled my substitutions very well. She was personable, friendly and always made sure our waters were filled! Food: While everyone else was getting noodle-based meals and what-not, I went with one of their specialties. Stir-fried Scallops & Jumbo Shrimp which were obviously stir-fried in a garlic wine sauce served with steamed broccoli, cauliflower and carrots topped with scallions and cilantro. I substituted the cauliflower for mango... they were out of mango so I went with pineapple to add a sweetness to my meal. it was excellent. PLENTY of scallops and shrimp that came with a bowl of white rice. I was definitely full when I finished. Value: Pretty good. More expensive than the tiny "mom & pop" Thai places, but the food was worth it. $23.95 for my meal, which isn't too bad for the type of seafood that I had. In conclusion, I was glad I stopped in. I had an awesome time, even in a cramped booth. I'll likely get a table next time it's the 4 of us getting together again. Some of the best Thai food I've had since moving to the Twin Cities! I came here for a girls night with my friends and we decided to eat on the patio. Our waitress was super attentive. She anticipated our needs and had small things like extra napkins and sauce ready for us before we asked. I am a spice lover so, I usually have an issue with food not being spicy enough, but I have met my match! Roat Osha does not play when it comes to the kick! Oof. It had been awhile since I was last here, and now I know why. I really hate to go negative, but something needs to change or this place will be another Uptown casualty. While the drinks and fried spring rolls were nice enough, the chicken in the fried rice was dry and the drunken noodle was, uh, drunk? The "noodles" were relegated to bottom-of-the-plate paste. The meat was paltry and the vegetables were so oversized it was absurd. I asked the server where the noodles were, and she showed me the cabbage. It was so sad it was funny.
