I saw an online recommendation for the breakfast burrito from Waterbury so I picked it up for brunch before a walk around the lake and immediately texted probably half my contacts list that they need to go get it immediately!! This breakfast burrito is packed full of everything you could ever want including wagyu steak (instead of the traditional bacon or sausage, so it's not greasy at all), avocado, eggs, potatoes, and cheese. It even came with a side salad and salsa to dip it in! For $15-16 it was a large portion and easily was 2 meals. I ordered online for pickup and it was ready quickly at the counter but the restaurant also looked cute inside so I would be interested in stopping in for a meal sometime too! We had another wonderful esperience at Waterbury Restaurant. Fortunate that the Waterbury is a 5 or 10 minute walk from our apartment house, we strolled over on a balmy Friday evening in September. The place was packed, but a kind gentlemen moved over so we could have two seats at the classy bar. With service from the empathetic Patrick and the charming Alicia, we felt at home even though we had just moved to Minneapolis. Waterbury's menu has an array of interesting choices. My spouse and I split a Caesar Salad. She ordered the Crispy Tuna Tacos which are always fantastic. I devoured the Blackened Shrimp. The dish had a piquancy that added the perfect amount of kick. We visited Thursday afternoon, they have dedicated spots in the garage for those dining in the restaurant for free. We walked up the block and in through the patio to get into the restaurant. When we were seated Natalie was our server and she was very sweet and friendly. We started our course with the spinach artichoke dip- which was just okay, nothing spectacular. However our drinks were delicious and well made. We ordered the sidecar and the Cuernavaca and the Cuernavaca was delicious. Not too sweet with the right amount of alcohol. The seating was super comfortable, the lighting was great and the playlist was fire! From Mac Miller to Daniel Cesar and Lil Yachty we definitely caught ourselves singing along. I ordered the seasonal special swordfish it was cooked perfectly with no spice in my opinion. Nothing that swept me off my feet- it was just okay. My husband also ordered a steak dish that he wasn't super impressed with either. We skipped dessert here. Was in the area and saw a place i had never been to, decided to drop in. Kind of tough finding parking, but that area is like that usually. I was with a friend and we sat at the bar. Definitely a beautiful space, feels like a nice date spot. Ordered a couple drinks and appetizers. Bartender and staff was super friendly and actually chatted it up with us. Such a cute little hidden gem! I absolutely loved the ambiance. I was surprised to see it empty but it was a weekday and in a spot that is slightly hard to find parking even on the weekdays. I ended up parking in the parking garage in a designated Waterbury Restaurant parking spot but I imagine those would get full on the weekends. I had an amazing brunch here with my friend. The service was quick and accommodating especially since I brought my 2 toddlers with me. I ordered pancakes for the kids and the steak burrito for myself. Everything was incredible. The burrito was so cheesy and delicious - I loved the flavor. The side salad was great too. We also tried some nocktails which were pretty tasty. The staff was super sweet especially with my kids. We actually arrived later than our reservation time but they were very understanding especially since the restaurant was empty. I would definitely come here again in the future. The ambiance is incredible. Quiet, beautiful and a great place to take pictures. Service was attentive but because the restaurant was empty there was a delay in service. However, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Onto the food....the beef tartare was good. The dijoinnaise was to die for. I asked at least 3 times and they refused to give me the recipe! The chips and tartar were nothing to write home about but the dijonnaise really made this dish. The cacio e Pepe was lacking flavor but with a little bit of salt it was very good. My eating partner and I also ordered the gyoza. I was skeptical at first due to the ingredients but I ended up enjoying it a lot! It tasted like ramen. My dining partner had the opposite experience where she was interested in the dish initially but after tasting it she did not enjoy it. She's also not a fan of ramen so it makes sense! I can't stop thinking about the Wagyu burger. It was sensational. But first, let's talk about the space. This is a new restaurant at the intersection of Lake and Excelsior in the new Waterbury House apartment building. The space is excellent and very modern, but it is also very cozy and full of light. I came here for a lunch meeting and the host, the server, and the manager were all very welcoming. I ordered the Wagyu burger. It was just the right size, not too small that leaves you hungry and not too big that you feel gross after. The aoli was tasty and the bacon was perfectly crunchy and chewy. The fries were fantastic, but the house-made ketchup was the co-star of the show. Who makes their own ketchup? I highly recommend checking this place out. What a hidden gem. My husband was late in planning for Mother's Day brunch neither of us had heard of this restaurant and so thankful they had an opening. The Mother's Day menu was exceptional. I have asked that it be a yearly tradition. Started with croissants so buttery and flaky. Fruit bowl was lgenerlus and fresh. I preferred the fried chicken Benedict or the breakfast burrito. I have never had a bad meal or dish here. It seems the chef is working from deep knowledge of how meal ingredients go together in a creative way. When they were open for breakfast they had the best avocado toast in town. Last night the sweet potato dumpling appetizer, the smokehouse chili, the Waterbury salad, and the salted caramel dacquois were all great. The decor is elegant without being stuffy, and the windows look over Lake Bde Maka Ska. I can go there when I am feeling casual or when I want something special. We stopped in for brunch. The hours, even on the weekend, for brunch are 8-11. You could definitely tell that the restaurant was very very new. Lots of questions from the staff to the manager on the menu (which only has 6 items), questions on what glassware to use, etc. The inside is super cute and bright on the corner of Lake and Excelsior. There are a few reserved restaurant spots in the garage. We started with bloody Mary's. There were two mix choices, dill and smoky jalapeño. We ordered one of each and they were served with garnishes of a lime and an olive. The dill definitely held that taste and I thought it was great. The smoky jalapeño I'm told tasted like normal mix. There was no baby beer served with it which is something I've come to expect with a bloody in Minnesota so was a little disappointing. We both got the steak burrito which was served with a side salad and a salsa. The dressing on the salad was great! The ingredients in the burrito were also very nice but not very evenly dispersed. I love burritos though and would order it again. We split a side of potatoes which weren't needed. They were good but the burrito was full of potatoes. My girl friend and I were hungry after kayaking at the lakes and decided to stop by for dinner. The interior of the restaurant was beautifully designed - modern and upscale with an intimate vibe. The service was great - our server was very attentive and professional. We ordered a chickpea falafel and wagyu tartar for starters. The chickpea falafel was perfectly fried with a soft center and garnished with an amazing red bell pepper sauce. The wagyu tartar was fresh and seasoned nicely. I've been here several times in the last year since it opened and it's def getting seasoned now, the ambiance has settled in. All of the food is great, [I think, I mean. We have dined here several times, and every menu item we have tried has been excellent. Standouts on the breakfast menu are the avocado toast and the steak burrito, which is excellent and comes with a wonderful fresh green salad. The Waterbury hash that comes with the Sunrise breakfast is more like homemade scalloped potatoes, and SO good. My family raved about the mushroom soup and the burger. The scallops with mushroom risotto were excellent and cravable. It came with only 3 scallops, but they were large and perfectly cooked. The risotto was plentiful and complemented the scallops perfectly. Service can be spotty when the restaurant is not busy, especially at breakfast. Go figure. I also have sometimes wondered if the breakfast servers are not coffee drinkers, as the coffee service and refills can be slow. Overall, a very pleasant dining experience. read more

If for nothing else, come for the truffled panna cotta. Wow. It's appetizer-sized, it's not over-truffled, as it typical of "truffled" dishes in the midwest where the truffle is truffle-oil (because whole truffles simply don't travel well enough to warrant their expense here in the middle of our continent), while truffle flavor is perfectly prominently balanced with the panna cotta flavor. Very, very well done. And it's served with Serrano ham, fresh mild herbs, and grilled baguette with herbed butter. Five stars. It's a Monday. 11am. Both breakfast and lunch menus were offerred. Perfect; I was in the mood for a brunch of sorts. The truffled panna cotta is on their lunch menu appetizers. And I had avocado toast from their breakfast menu (so, an egg on top.) These two dishes are made for each other. Their avocado toast is also superlative. It includes some blistered tomato; a little fresh cucumber in small, thin, halved slices; a few similarly-cut slices of radish; a little cilantro; and the perfect touch of chili sauce --no heat, lots of flavor. It may well be the best avocado toast I've ever had, for it had a symphony of flavors itself, but along with a little of the truffled panna cotta in a some bites and a little of the serrano ham in some bites, it became operatic. You can tell the place is still new. Yet the hostess/server was delightful and efficient. The barista was a bit socially inept, but also efficient. Good drip coffee, even. Didn't try their espresso. Another time. The food was of course wonderfully prompt, what with the place being nearly empty at 11am on a Monday. The space is gorgeous. It feels good in the place. It is bar-centric. The bar appears well-stocked and inviting. And the place overall feels quite coffee-house comfortable --nice for a little time on the computer with their good coffee. (As I write this. Nice.) Even the dining music is great --and the right volume. Parking leaves a bit to be desired. There are a few spots reserved for the restaurant inside the residence garage, no charge --then a short block-long walk to the entrance to the restaurant. I expect that as this wonderful place gets discovered, those parking spots will be at a premium. In the meantime, I'll be bringing guests in order to give the Waterbury's happy hour a try --during which the wonderful truffled panna cotta is one of the featured happy-hour apps, by the way.
