Stopped in to grab an early dinner with a friend without a reservation and we're fortunate enough to get a patio seat despite it being busy. This is one of my favorite spots and favorite burgers in the city. My friend and I shared the cheeseburger and the chicken sandwich and fries. I had not had the chicken sandwich before, but will definitely be ordering it again as it was delicious. The burger continues to be one of my favorite in the area. If you're not super hungry, you can definitely share the fries. It's a pretty decent size portion! Our server Donika was super bubbly and friendly and one of the best servers I've had in a while! She had great recommendations and was quick and attentive. The spot is great time of year, but especially in the summer when they have the doors open! The inside bar is also so cool. Somewhere I bring out-of-town guest again and again :) read more

Have been wanting to come here since they opened, but always forget about it behind the store. After seeing photos from a friend who stopped by, I decided to make a reservation and finally give the sidebar a try. The space is very nice. A little loud, but not so bad you can't have a conversation. I love the big windows along the side and being behind the storefront on the other side. For the food...fantastic. I saw arancini on the menu, which I can never say no to. These had a pea pesto, which was perfect for spring. I ended up getting the chicken sandwich for my dinner and had a couple fabulous cocktails. Since we stopped in for a birthday celebration, we were also treated to a delicious scoop of cake batter ice cream. Our server was delightful, very fast and incredibly friendly. He also had great suggestions for those who wanted a recommendation. All in all, would definitely come back to the Sidebar! read more

Sidebar is always a solid spot! We enjoyed their burger and chicken sandwich. Our waitress was 10/10!! Patio seating is busy since it's right near the street so we typically like to sit at the bar instead, but either way you'll have a great meal! read more

Love love love this place! The staff are always so friendly and helpful. It feels like an upscale neighborhood joint. They def know their regular's names. With its literal connection to Surdyk's, the drink and eatables are always changing. Loved our drinks, charcuterie board and chicken sandwich!!! The lighting, decor and seating is swanky too. Outdoor streetside patio during the warmer months and the front windows are a garage door that can be opened as well!! read more

I absolutely love this restaurant. I've been twice and brunch and twice for dinner. The cocktails are unique and tasty, and the food is always amazing. I'm pescatarian and there are a lot of veggie forward options to choose. My favorites are the hummus crudities plate (it's not boring I promise!), fondue, mussels, and the broccolini. The ambiance is intimate and cozy, but it can get a bit loud due to how many people are seated in the smaller space. read more

Enjoyed my first impromptu visit for a late night dinner. I split the cheeseburger, chicken sandwich, and a side of fries. The chicken sandwich was my favorite. The bun was chewy and served warm. Really made the sandwich top notch. The breaded chicken was seasoned well and was actually crunchy throughout the last bite. The fries were good, but the standout part was the garlic aioli. We will definitely be back! read more

This place is a hidden gem! Really good food and delicious drinks. I have had the burger here a few times. It's not overly fancy just a well executed burger. The fries are really good as well. The Easy Breezy drink was a special using Trakal Patagonian spirit which was a featured tasting inside the Surdyks store that day. It was super refreshing. The Desert Bloom was ridiculously good. Sotol is not used much at most bars so I was excited to see it featured in a cocktail here. Our server was very attentive and had great recommendations. We will be back! read more

We stopped in for a late lunch. It was okay. Everything was average. The Turkey sandwich barely had any Brie cheese and was somewhat dry. The breakfast sandwich was okay but not very warm when served. A hotter version would have tasted better. The Milk Chocolate Tart was the highlight and we added ice cream. read more

Came here for some cocktails and light bites and was pleasantly surprised. Although on the pricier side, everything we tried was delicious! My friends got the charcuterie board for $30 which came with lots of different cheeses, meets, sourdough crackers, spreads, chocolate and walnut toffee. I got the fries with ketchup and aioli, for $8 there were not that many but the rest of the menu is expensive so I understand. Definitely a hidden gem and we will be back! read more

This place never fails to disappoint! I stopped in for a late night dinner on Friday. I love the copper bar and small feel in the restaurant. I ordered my "go-to" - the cheeseburger. Make sure to get the dijonaise sauce! I don't typically care for Dijon or Mayo, but this sauce is kind of magic! This burger is a contender for one of the best in Minneapolis. read more

We decided to check out the restaurant inside the cafe. Came here once and was in a hurry to get back to work, purchased a sandwich and noticed there's a restaurant. Small restaurant, but has sidewalk dining area. Check in at the bar and the servers will seat you. I'm a big fan of devil eggs, so I had to order those. Service was great, my server checked on us quite often. read more

Nice place to browse a large selection of wine. When I came I also noticed they had several booths out where patrons could sample different drinks which I appreciate since you might come across something you've been thinking about trying but get to taste first before deciding. Next door there is a fine cheese shop along with prepared foods and an assortment of kitchen goods. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly so don't be afraid to request their help if you have an idea of what you want but don't know what to buy. I'll need to come back to try out their restaurant sometime. Another huge plus for this place is the nice dedicated free parking lot outside. While you're here in northeast you can hop to other places and stores before or after you browse for desserts and more. read more

It wasn't very busy... it was around 6:30. I stood at the bar. 3 different people looked at me but didn't ask me if I needed anything. After standing around for 5 minutes I finally flagged down a bartender to ask to see a menu. Bar area was open. We sat down. A host came over and said "you need to check in at the stand" which we didn't know because we went in on the cheese shop area. First timer. My friend was super excited to try the deviled eggs... $10 for 1 1/3 egg lol it was very salty. No other taste I could identify. The beer tartare was ok. Crab pasta was decent. Service was decent. I needed water which I couldn't seem to find our server until we finished our meal. read more

The cocktails we had were delicious and our server was super friendly! My only critique is that they were on the small side for the price. The Tokyo Riff (vodka) and the Practical Magic (gin) were my favorites of the night. I would go back to try food. If would recommend making a reservation at happy hour or other busy times, because the place was hopping and even trying to find a non-bar spot for two people early in the evening was a logistics challenge (thank you to our server who let us bounce between open tables!) read more

I am always excited to come here! This place has ambiance coming out of its eyeball sockets. I've been coming to the deli section of Surdyk's for years and I've been impressed with their cheeses and salamis, so it's not surprising that they have a bistro with such high-quality dishes. My favorite is the Grilled Sirloin Steak, which is a little pricey but ever so tasty. It comes with a pepper sauce that is fun to dip bread in once the meat has been devoured. They also have a great mac & cheese and a nice Apaghetti alla Vodka with sausage, and of course the charcuterie board is outstanding. There isn't much seating, although you can resort to a seat at the bar as I often have. They have outdoor seating during the appropriate months. The atmosphere is really fun and you can park in the Surdyk's lot for free! read more

Here for the first time last night. I did not know this bar/restaurant existed. Did not have a reservation and had to wait over a half hour after 7:00pm to sit at the bar. Drinks and food were good. They don't have a large amount of food options and they have no dessert. The shop attached was closed by the time we left around 8:30, so we walked across the street for desert. $36 for a cheese burger and one drink. Would I go back? Probably not. read more

Sidebar is a great addition to the neighborhood and the Surydk's complex! The space is nice and intimate but it can accomodate groups of 6-8 as well. Because it's small you might want to make reservations ahead of time, though I can almost always grab a spot at the bar if I'm solo. The patio area can get windy but I bet indoors with the garage door windows open on a nice summer day would be perfect. The curds with hot honey and the burger with dijonnaise are among the highlights of the menu items I have tried. The cocktails, pastas and soups are pretty good but I have had a miss here and there. I'm sure they crush on the wine list. Surdyk's continues to get lots of my money between this place, the cheese shop, and the liquor store. Long live Surdyk's! read more

I've been coming here since they opened and it's about time I wrote a review. Sidebar is a cozy, classy, and tasty place around the corner from Surdyk's liquor store (or behind their cheese shop). Every meal I've had here has been delicious. They have limited hours (4-11 T-Sat) and a limited menu, but I've never had an issue finding something I like. It's sometimes hard to get a table here but they do accept reservations so that's a me problem. Service is attentive and helpful. Last time I was there they let us try 3 different wines before selecting the one we liked. My only complaint- I wish they would expand their wine selection. You'd think being next to (and owned by) a first class liquor store they would have quite the selection, but not so. Regardless, this is a solid choice! read more

A truly solid spot. Stumbled in here on a Friday evening. Sat at the bar. Ordered the old fashioned. Strong and good. Strong though haha. Got the cheeseburger like everyone else at the bar and I really enjoyed it. I think you would too. Finished up with the Martini Express which is an Espresso Martini. Solid. Overall really good experience . Service was top notch. Very friendly bartender. Ambience was chill, vibey and good for people watching. 10/10. read more

Whether you are stopping in for post-work drinks, meeting for apps and cocktails at the bar, or planning to enjoy their dinner menu, Sidebar will not disappoint. I've even dropped in with friends for late night espresso martinis. With an expansive patio in the summer and great bar seating during any month, I'd recommend Sidebar for many occasions. The staff is friendly and bar tenders are more than happy to walk you through their extensive cocktail menu. I most recently ordered their burger and fries along with my two dining partners. Two smash patties are snugly held together with American cheese, house made pickles, and creamy dijonnaise. Their fries are addictive and I could toss back the aioli by the spoonful. I've also enjoyed their fried cheese curds with hot honey and veggie + hummus board. Their espresso martini is well balanced with cocoa and vanilla notes but not overly creamy or filling, a delightful cocktail! Great spot for food and drink in the Northeast neighborhood! read more

Always such excellent service and overall fantastic experience at Surdyk's Sidebar. Met a few friends here for dinner and we ended up splitting several dishes (family style) so we could try a few different things-- would recommend! (It's all so good). We were celebrating a friend, so we got a bottle of champagne and Charcuterie board to start. Great selection of different cheeses, jams, crackers, etc and big enough to split. We split the Green salad, Steak frites, and Pasta a la vodka. All absolutely delicious and if I returned tomorrow, I would order it all again. read more

If you're a cheeseburger fan, add this one to you list! Beautifully cooked smash patties with great crunchy edges. Add a perfect bun with chopped red onion, pickles and mayo and you have a contender for your top burger in the Twin Cities. The pea ravioli is a winner as well. Fresh pasta filled with a pea puree and topped with fresh peas, pistachios, Fresno chiles, and a light sauce. So good! Also like that you can order wine in a 3 or 6 ounce pour. Makes trying more than one or two wines much easier. Cocktails are also really great too. Make a reservation as this place isn't really big. And, come early so you can check out the cheese shop/gourmet shop. read more

Stopped in on a whim even though I'm pregnant. Luckily they had a couple delicious mocktails on the menu. I've been to the cheese shop before so I had a feeling the restaurant would also have some delicious options. My friend and I shared the ravioli, fries, and cheese curds. They were all delicious. I'll definitely be back to try more and maybe even a real cocktail soon. It's not a huge space but we had no trouble being seated on early evening on a weeknight. Overall I had a really great experience here. This was my second time visiting, but first time eating here. First off I'll say the space is SMALL, so I'd recommend a reservation, especially on weekends. The interior is really cute and well-designed. I love the bar being in the center, all the wine featured along the walls, and especially the wall of old ads. I'd love to come back in the summer when they can have the giant firehouse-style door open! The wine was mostly good, but I absolutely hated the Walnut Block Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand. I literally had to choke it down. After that, the other two whites I had were very good! Our server was SO nice, funny, friendly, and helpful. She had great recommendations and was very attentive. Now to the food. In short, it was exquisite. Every single thing we ate was great. We started with the charcuterie board, which we devoured. Everything on the board was delicious and thoughtfully picked out. Portions were great too. After the charcuterie board we got the mac and cheese (with bacon, of course) and the roasted duck breast. I definitely encourage adding bacon to the mac because it wasn't just a few small bits, there were huge, delicious chunks, which worked really well with the crunch from the bread on top and the creaminess of the cheese. The duck was was really tender and the accompanying root vegetables were equally as good. Both were perfectly seasoned. I would absolutely recommend both of these dishes! read more

This spot was a little unexpected. When I am traveling, I love to scope out great liquor stores to find unique or more rare bottles of bourbon, and when I was talking to my friend from the cities, she said we had to go to Surdyk's. She also said that she heard they have a pretty exceptional bar/restaurant connected to it. I was sold. The liquor store itself did not disappoint with floor to ceiling options, but Sidebar was equally impressive. It had a great ambience, this house old-fashioned might be one of the best I have ever had, and their food was unexpectedly elevated for being a restaurant connected to a liquor store. For example, they don't have onion rings, they have onion bhaji which is like an onion fritter that was exploding with flavor and texture. Even these roasted brussels sprouts had additional elements that set them apart. There is an obvious reason that the liquor store was celebrating its 90th anniversary. When you're doing things that well, people recognize it. If you're looking for an accessible entrance, you will need to enter the restaurant through the liquor store rather than their main side door. read more

Love this place, relaxing casual vibes with great drinks connected to a cheese shop with great coffee and breakfast sandwiches.

Sidebar's bartenders are skilled! It's fun sitting near the bar where you can see them mix mastering drinks. Drinks are high quality. Refined, sort of pinky finger pointed to the heavens refined. Service is solid and obviously a team effort. Water is constantly filled, and check-ins are frequent but not overboard. Burger and fries - yes, please. I recommend you ask for light salt on the fries. Otherwise, they're too salty. I suggest ordering the garlic aioli to dip the fries in. The burger is state fair meets a bit fancy, delicious. People watching is fun at Sidebar. You're in a bustling area. It's easy to get entertained by the cars on Hennepin, strolling cast of characters, and chit chatter. read more
