This place is a hidden gem! Really good food and delicious drinks. I have had the burger here a few times. It's not overly fancy just a well executed burger. The fries are really good as well. The Easy Breezy drink was a special using Trakal Patagonian spirit which was a featured tasting inside the Surdyks store that day. It was super refreshing. The Desert Bloom was ridiculously good. Sotol is not used much at most bars so I was excited to see it featured in a cocktail here. Our server was very attentive and had great recommendations. We will be back!

We stopped in for a late lunch. It was okay. Everything was average. The Turkey sandwich barely had any Brie cheese and was somewhat dry. The breakfast sandwich was okay but not very warm when served. A hotter version would have tasted better. The Milk Chocolate Tart was the highlight and we added ice cream.

Came here for some cocktails and light bites and was pleasantly surprised. Although on the pricier side, everything we tried was delicious! My friends got the charcuterie board for $30 which came with lots of different cheeses, meets, sourdough crackers, spreads, chocolate and walnut toffee. I got the fries with ketchup and aioli, for $8 there were not that many but the rest of the menu is expensive so I understand. Definitely a hidden gem and we will be back!

This place never fails to disappoint! I stopped in for a late night dinner on Friday. I love the copper bar and small feel in the restaurant. I ordered my "go-to" - the cheeseburger. Make sure to get the dijonaise sauce! I don't typically care for Dijon or Mayo, but this sauce is kind of magic! This burger is a contender for one of the best in Minneapolis.

We decided to check out the restaurant inside the cafe. Came here once and was in a hurry to get back to work, purchased a sandwich and noticed there's a restaurant. Small restaurant, but has sidewalk dining area. Check in at the bar and the servers will seat you. I'm a big fan of devil eggs, so I had to order those. Service was great, my server checked on us quite often.

The cocktails we had were delicious and our server was super friendly! My only critique is that they were on the small side for the price. The Tokyo Riff (vodka) and the Practical Magic (gin) were my favorites of the night. I would go back to try food. If would recommend making a reservation at happy hour or other busy times, because the place was hopping and even trying to find a non-bar spot for two people early in the evening was a logistics challenge (thank you to our server who let us bounce between open tables!)

Stopped in on a Saturday night around 8pm. We immediately got seated at the bar. I loved the warm lighting, industrial accents, leather. We just wanted a cocktail--got the Old Fashioned and the Side Peach. They came quickly and drank easy. Will be back to try the food menu which looks delish!

Here for the first time last night. I did not know this bar/restaurant existed. Did not have a reservation and had to wait over a half hour after 7:00pm to sit at the bar. Drinks and food were good. They don't have a large amount of food options and they have no dessert. The shop attached was closed by the time we left around 8:30, so we walked across the street for desert. $36 for a cheese burger and one drink. Would I go back? Probably not.

It wasn't very busy... it was around 6:30. I stood at the bar. 3 different people looked at me but didn't ask me if I needed anything. After standing around for 5 minutes I finally flagged down a bartender to ask to see a menu. Bar area was open. We sat down. A host came over and said "you need to check in at the stand" which we didn't know because we went in on the cheese shop area. First timer. My friend was super excited to try the deviled eggs... $10 for 1 1/3 egg lol it was very salty. No other taste I could identify. The beer tartare was ok. Crab pasta was decent. Service was decent. I needed water which I couldn't seem to find our server until we finished our meal.

I went here on a weekday after an event. I ordered a glass of red wine and the mussels. I was surprised the mussels were pretty good. They have outdoor seating along the sidewalk and an open concept for indoor seating if you're by the window. Very noisy and busy but I felt attended to. Not sure about a parking lot but there's street parking.

I am always excited to come here! This place has ambiance coming out of its eyeball sockets. I've been coming to the deli section of Surdyk's for years and I've been impressed with their cheeses and salamis, so it's not surprising that they have a bistro with such high-quality dishes. My favorite is the Grilled Sirloin Steak, which is a little pricey but ever so tasty. It comes with a pepper sauce that is fun to dip bread in once the meat has been devoured. They also have a great mac & cheese and a nice Apaghetti alla Vodka with sausage, and of course the charcuterie board is outstanding. There isn't much seating, although you can resort to a seat at the bar as I often have. They have outdoor seating during the appropriate months. The atmosphere is really fun and you can park in the Surdyk's lot for free!

Our first time to the Sidebar, even though we regularly shop at Surdyks and get food to go from the deli often. This was a nice lunch on the patio, we split the burger and fries, very delicious and the cocktails were very good as well, they make a very nice old fashioned.

Always such excellent service and overall fantastic experience at Surdyk's Sidebar. Met a few friends here for dinner and we ended up splitting several dishes (family style) so we could try a few different things-- would recommend! (It's all so good). We were celebrating a friend, so we got a bottle of champagne and Charcuterie board to start. Great selection of different cheeses, jams, crackers, etc and big enough to split. We split the Green salad, Steak frites, and Pasta a la vodka. All absolutely delicious and if I returned tomorrow, I would order it all again.

Vera madre cocktail with cool Sidebar ice cube!

It says they do takeout on Google maps but they wouldn't let us when we got there so might want to fix that.

Parking is easy, as there is a free public lot about 50 feet away, and street parking is also available. The workers are always friendly, and often will give you cheese samples (yum). I have never had a bad sandwich here. Some favorites are the chicken salad, the prosciutto-fig-ricotta, and the sweet chorizo. Today, I ordered the Turkey club and the Sandwich of the Week, the La Tur, which had a cow, goat and sheep milk cheese with blueberry honey jam, greens and bacon. It was good, but don't get this sandwich unless you like cheeses that REALLY have that sheep flavor! There are a few small tables for 2 tucked inside by the register, and a couple of small tables outside in nice weather, but this is really more of a grab'n go place. We took these on the plane with us the next day, as we were traveling. Pro Tip: You can earn France 44 rewards at this location, just tell them you are a member when you get to the register!

It was the perfect consistency, seasoned really well, and can still taste the freshness of the tomatoes. For the melt, I got the truffle that came with double cream brie, gruyere, mushrooms, honey and black truffle. Everything was melted to perfection and the truffle was delicious without being overwhelming. The bread had a really good crunch to give some texture with the melty gooey cheese. Despite having so much cheese, it wasn't a super heavy meal. More of a take out place. There's a couple tables outside to eat but it was also really windy and hot the day I went so I ate pretty quickly.

Located in the Northeast neighborhood of Minneapolis, Surdyk's Liquor and Cheese is an institution,…read morestarted as a liquor and grocery store in 1934, moving to this location in 1979. Now run by third-generation owners, it expanded to retailing fine wine and cheeses as well. I stopped in to buy some house gifts, and was pleasantly surprised by its very large selection of products, displayed in a way that it was enjoyable to do some 'window shopping'. In my case, I focused on the whiskey's and found what I was hoping for (from the Nikka distillery, a place I had visited a long time ago). But surprisingly it carried American made whiskey (in this case, from the Seattle area) for a price that was lower than what I had paid when actually visiting the distillery itself. I took the time to walk around a bit, noticing that they had an entire section devoted to just German and Austria wines. (Would have been shocked to find wines from Luxembourg, which is on my list). There were also a large beer refrigerated room, as big as any I've seen at big retailers. Of course, it had the beers from the Midwest that are hard to find where I live now (Leinenkugel, Hamm's, and Zywiec). Also noticed a small display of cigars, protected behind locked glass. Ended up getting two Westland Single Malt 750ml for $56.99 each. Checkout was identical to any large liquor store chain (like a grocery store checkout with employees who do checkout and are not really knowledgeable about the products sold).

My favorite side is the cheese/deli side. I enjoy Surdyk's, but they seem to have cut back on their product offerings, so I have been coming down here to France 44. They have a wonderfully curated selection of cheese of all varieties. You want soft cheese. If you are unsure of a cheese you might be interested in, the cheesemongers will certainly provide you with a description, and even allow you to sample before you buy. To complement your cheese, there is a nice array of cured meats, crackers, olives, etc to add to the cheese-eating experience. One thing I would add is that this establishment is not unlike shopping at Target. You enter to pick up one or two items, and you leave with much more than you intended.
