I'm not sure where the bad reviews came from but we had an excellent time here! The reviews and the unfamiliar words on the menu made me really doubt my restaurant choice for our anniversary dinner but wow, the food was delicious! They treat an anniversary very well, we felt special. We started with the lamb meatballs which were so good we debated on ordering them again. We also got the iberico pork ribs which were good for me 7/10 but my husband wasn't a fan, I think it's work a try! For our entrees we got the roasted chicken (8.5/10), flat iron (9/10) and sweet potatoes (10/10). The roasted chicken had a lot of creative flavors which I loved and my husband wasn't a fan but we both LOVED the sweet potatoes, they were seasoned very well and were anything but plain! The flat iron steak was very good but came out a little cold, but I would still order it again! We finished the night with Alaskan dessert and we both loved it 10/10 read more

I made a dinner reservation at Tullibee for my husband's birthday on a Wednesday evening at 7:15PM. We were greeted and seated right away. I loved the ambiance- moody loft, classy, and chill. We opted for the 5-course chef's "Leave it to Us" and we were literally blown away! Every course was delicious, balanced, flavorful, and nicely plated. If I could give more than 5 stars to Tullibee, I absolutely would! We are having dinner here again tonight before we leave Minneapolis. Hands down- amazing! read more

We went on a Saturday morning when it wasn't too crowded. The non-alcoholic drink I ordered (while small) was extremely good. But the food was subpar. The cardamom roll is a pale imitation of what one actually gets in Sweden, and worse than the one offered a block away by Bellecour. The bread is much too dense, and it tastes like they skimped on butter. The hash I ordered had an egg that was undercooked--the underside had a big blob of transparent egg white. The root vegetables weren't particularly crunchy. The breakfast sandwich was also a disappointment compared to Bellecour--the sausage was too garlicky and underseasoned. The service was generally good, though they probably could have used one more server working the brunch service given things were a bit slow. I would come back for just drinks, but will not return for food. read more

A bit confused on where to plug reviews these days for an experience at the Hew, but since my most recent trip was anchored into the food, I'll drop on this page. The service I get is always top notch at the Hew when coming out for a drink and/or bite, even when they're busy. It's been a staple spot for me and my crew for years now with stopping in, but it's been a bit of a stretch now since we were last in. Since my last trip, the bar area menu has changed, much more prominent tullibee references and to my surprise, one of my favorite burgers in town changed too. Went with the new burger and fries. I opted out of doing tomato on it which is new (I find tomato's messy on burgers/sandwiches) and wanted to give it as close of a one for one comparison as I could against the og. Overall, I think the og was much better. This one wasn't bad, just lacking in flavor comparative. Less smash-esque. Perhaps an off night? I also don't recall the prior having pickles or at least them being as tart. You also could do duck fat fries for +$2, now however you have to order a full on side $8?. It's a share size which if you're eating solo, doesn't help you. Overall, cocktails and service were superb as always. The Hewing hotel is a great place to grab drinks, but I wish we would have stayed at the bar for a cocktail and apps. This was the only restaurant in north loop that didn't have a wait and my group was in a bit of a rush, so we decided to give it a try. We were transparent that we were in a rush and ordered several options for the table to share, but our food took came out one at a time with significant with significant delays between each dish. Our server was amazing - he provided opinions, was very kind, and checked in frequently. Tullibee has great food and vibes! The service is slow, so if you have good conversation flowing it'll seem quick. It took about 45 minutes to get our food which wasn't great, but our server was nice and offered great recs. Also, we modified our reservation and it wasn't updated in the host's system. So, we weren't seated right away. Along with this, the parking situation can be a bit difficult since it's in NoLo. Overall, it has great food, but the service could definitely be improved. read more

The first time I went here and the second time were night and day differences. We came here last year for my sisters birthday and had an amazing server who brought a drink and dessert over for my sister and the food was so delicious we decided to come back this year. We were a little early so we sat at the bar and waited for our table. When our reservation time finally came around we went to go get sat for our table and our host said she would mention our special occasion to the waitress. Then our waitress comes over and we place our order for an appetizer and our two entrees- the appetizer comes out promptly. 25 minutes go by and our drinks are empty and our waitress is out of sight. What I assume was the manager on site comes by and notices our drinks are empty and refills them- I had to flag down our waitress because the champagne they poured my sister was flat. Another 25 minutes go by and we still haven't gotten our entrees... they finally arrive and both of our bison steaks were overcooked. At this point we are just ready to leave- from start to finish we spent an hour and half there and $150. Very disappointing from our last experience. read more

Fantastic experience start to finish! Great atmosphere, great service, great food. Couldn't have asked for anything more. We opted for the "Leave it to the Chef" and gave the instructions that we didn't want oysters, herring or scallops, and that my husband is allergic to gluten and dairy. But other than that it was all a surprise to us when the dishes came out. And wow- it was such a great decision. We ended up getting a lot of custom plates with some things not on the menu and, best of all, we could be confident that they were thoughtfully prepared for my husband's allergies while still being delicious ... it was like we had a private chef for the evening! So fun. We had so many things it would be impossible to name them all but there were all flavorful and well prepared. Our favorite was probably the crispy Brussels sprouts and dry aged steak. The Salmon, broccolini, acorn squash, and roast lamb were also amazing. And I think they made us chocolate sorbet on the spot so that we could have dessert??! Next level service. Our drinks were tasty as well - both the NA mule and Minnesota spiced mule were great. Our server Juanita (I think) was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, which enhanced the experience. Our water glasses were always full. The other staff at the restaurant/hotel were also friendly and attentive for coat check, bathroom directions etc. We arrived on the early side - 5pm reservation. This space is beautiful... I went here for lunch with a coworker and we bellied up to the bar. There is a menu on the back of the drink menu, but you have to order off the Tullibee menu. Not a ton of options, but that makes sense for a lunch while sitting at the bar. Our bartender was super friendly and I would come back for his attentiveness. It wasn't overly busy and the kitchen got our food out super fast. Steelhead Trout Salad- I love me a good salad and sadly this wasn't great. Especially for the price. It was a nice piece of fish on a pile of dressed greens. NO other toppings and it was $20. I was hoping for cucumber or seeds, edamame, anything else. It was so boring. It needed a few other layers of flavor. The fish was skin on and had a nice salt crispiness on the top. I enjoyed that, but wanted more for a premium dining price/ experience. Cauliflower side- I have been a cauliflower connoisseur as most restaurants have their version of it. This one was a large portion and it looked appealing with the fine shreds of Parmesan, but it was also missing something. I noticed they used some type of lettuce as a filler or was it some cauliflower greens? It seemed like romaine. It all was quite undercooked and was crunchy. This was odd. The flavor didn't grab me and I only ate a scoop. I feel bad saying this, but I wouldn't get either again. I really like the Hewing Hotel, but this wasn't fabulous. Had a great night dinning at the Tullibee. The food was pretty amazing. The party ordered every single items on the appetizer and we get to tried each of them. I had a wonderful breakfast at the Tullibee. I was going back and forth between the Farmers Breakfast and the Breakfast Sammie. The server told me his favorite item in the menu was the Breakfast Sammie so I opted that way. I'm not a pork fan so I subbed the bacon with chicken sausage. This sandwich was a delight! It comes on a slightly toasted brioche bun, sunny side egg...yesss, American cheese, sriracha mayo, pickled red onions, and maple jam (wow). This is one of those sandwiches that hits all the high points of sweet, savory, salty and spicy. Ohhhhh yeah! I chose to cut the sandwich in half so I wouldn't look like a Neanderthal wolfing this down. The sandwich itself is 5 stars. It's served with crispy potatoes. They were smashed, fried Yukons but a bit too heavy for my taste this morning. (If you've been drinking I would image this added grease would be welcome). The brunch dining experience exceeded my expectations. The interior is gorgeous with loft brick style, tall windows, and a modern touch. We had a big group of 12 comfortably sitting in their dining space. We all ordered a collection of their brunch menu meals. I got the breakfast Sammie and it was very delicious. I was able to get their gluten free bread due to my dietary restrictions which wasn't showcased on the menu, The crispy potatoes were a HIT. Additionally; it's very nice this place can do coffee in anyway including latte style. Their flavors are great: I had lavender. Service was great and speedy. We enjoyed our time. After reading other people's reviews: I can confirm that this place does brunch and drinks well. So basically go for brunch and nothing else! It's convenient for hotel guests (which I was) and it's a beautiful space to be able to just wake up and walk downstairs and see the exposed brick and bright natural light from the big windows. I can see how others also had a hard time with service. The morning I was there our server said that two other servers didn't show! She was so good and apologetic but we honestly didn't even wait very long for anything. Brunch food was so good. I'm from Los Angeles, a city filled with outstanding restaurants. So, in Minneapolis on business, I didn't have sky-high expectations for Tullibee. Spoiler alert: the meal exceeded all my expectations and is one of my all-time top 10 favorite meals. The setting: a converted warehouse with exposed pipes and beams that manages to be light, bright, hip, and welcoming. The meal: 8 courses on the "Leave it to the Chef" menu. Just enough variety and food for a perfectly satisfying but not overwhelming meal. Running through the entire meal were the Scandinavian themes of pickled and mustardy accents with farm-fresh bright notes. The bitterballen, a beef stew croquette with horseradish cream and micro greens was a perfectly crisp two bites, the spicy horseradish a perfect contrast to the warmth of the stew. The kale and date salad had all the perfect accents to make it special, from orange zest to crunchy Marcona almonds and celery, and shaved gouda. I have to wonder if the fettucine was homemade as it was perfectly toothsome with a creamy sauce made more interesting by the pink Castelvetrano olives, mint, and pickled shallots. The star was undoubtedly the whole grilled rainbow trout with leek & mushroom filling and wild mushrooms. I am still dreaming of the freshness of the fish and that flavor combination. I would have dissected away and devoured every last bit of flaky white fish and crunchy skin if I could have. The steak with juniper demi-glace was a perfect medium-rare and paired with crispy new potatoes in a mustard cream sauce. One member of our party was pregnant and unable to eat rare steak-- so a perfectly cooked generous pork shop was included as well. The dessert, a chocolate mousse cake, was perfectly fine, but the true masterpiece was the quarter-sized chocolate cookies served alongside. They were topped with flaky sea salt and eat bite burst with browned-butter flavor. Second only to the trout, I can't stop thinking about them. In summary: please go to this restaurant. The tasting menu is fresh, fun, inventive, balanced, and, most of all, delicious. Minneapolis is lucky to have Tullibee! read more

My friend brought me to Tullibee for late dinner when I was visiting, and the dining area is super cute. It was also super dark inside, which is a disappointment when you want to take pictures of food, but alas. We were seated near the kitchen and we could watch them use the wood fire oven. (Question: how does one control temperature in a wood fire oven?) We ordered cocktails: I got the You're Turning Violet, which was a fruity and minty drink with very little tasty of alcohol (great for my purposes). My friend mentioned that tasting mine REALLY made her want to eat meat (I think it was the mint... but I'm not sure. But I concurred). I... sadly can't remember the name of her drink, but it was recommended by the waiter and had lemon and rosemary in it. Their herbs are incredibly aromatic. Her drink was delicious and not overly sweet, which was what she wanted as well. We ordered the Bibb lettuce, charred asparagus, pappardelle pasta, and the scallops & foie gras. The vegetable dishes came first and wow that charred asparagus is mindblowingly delicious. And meaty. I also loved the Bibb lettuce dish-- the description had green goddess so I was expecting what I normally see in salads ie very obviously dressed, but this came without looking like it had dressing at all. But when we ate it... SO GOOD. It basically had the perfect amount of dressing so that it was flavorful but not at all overwhelming or drippy. The scallops & foie gras came a bit early, but the scallops were excellently grilled and not sandy at all, the foie gras was also yummy (my friend doesn't like foie gras but agreed this was better than her previous experiences because the way it's prepared made it taste less overly fatty and iron-y), and the blueberry ice cream was surprising (yes it comes with blueberry ice cream) but somehow worked with the dish. The pappardelle pasta had an excellent texture with a nice mushroom sauce. I don't... recall much about the guinea hen that was in it, so it was probably good but not particularly remarkable. Come here if you want a fancy-ish meal! And maybe come earlier in the day if you want a better look at what you're consuming or if you like taking pictures of food. :D read more

A solid little option. I'm not sure how much I would say they are Scandinavian influenced, it feels to me now like standard new New American. The menu leans heavily meat and potatoes, but pescatarians and vegetarians will find options. The appetizers we tried were nothing to Yelp about, although all perfectly edible, and the foie meatballs did have a decent amount of liver flavor. The rolls must be ordered as a supplement (grrrr), and are served in a very twee little box that will appeal to Instagram. The mains did better, particularly the special of a pork loin in morel gravy. Perfectly seared and crusted, juicy on the inside, and nom nom morels. Dessert was worth saving room for -- we loved both the lingonberry mousse inside a cardamom cracker and the strawberry rhubarb basil panna cotta. The bar program showcases house infusions. I was unimpressed by the tonic which didn't really best regular quinine, and thus did not order further. They do have a good variety of local options for beer and spirits. Overall, you are paying for hotel location and presentation, but the food isn't bad. I wouldn't call this a destination, but a solid option in the North Loop. read more

This was a very interesting experience. The food was delicious; I very much enjoyed the roast lamb and the scallop (singular). I also had the bison steak, which was marked GF on the menu. It came with deep fried onions on the top (not gluten free), so be warned: you must specifically tell your server of your allergy even for items claiming to be okay for you. I have eaten here before and I love the atmosphere. Brick walls, large windows, high ceilings contribute to a hip, fun environment. We ended up ordering multiple dishes and sharing with the table. We started with cocktails and the Chef's Board. The Chef's Board was underwhelming for the price. Next we tried the Frog's Legs which were surprisingly tender and wrapped in bacon, I enjoyed this dish. Then we shared the Bison Short Rib, Roasted Hen, and Charred Asparagus. The Hen and Bison were both cooked perfectly. The Asparagus was good. This was more than enough food for 4 people. Service was friendly and prompt. Food and cocktails came in a timely manner. It was a very busy Saturday, and the staff seemed to keep their composure well. Overall, I had high expectations coming to Tullibee, and while I wasn't disappointed, my expectations also weren't exceeded. The unique menu using local purveyors, cool atmosphere, and buttoned-up service all added to the charm of Tullibee. I really WISH I could have liked this place more. But I can only give it 3 stars, which translates to "OK." The dining room is a re-imagined industrial warehouse with high ceilings and exposed utilities (visible plumbing, heating, AC). Very well done. The online reviews and photos looked intriguing. I had not experienced much Scandinavian cuisine before. Upon arriving, we had to pay to park. It was $10, plus 9.03% tax, which is the sales tax for Minneapolis. The parking lot had a steep hill, which was a challenge for one of the members of our group. We walked in the front door of the hotel and saw the bar area. I figured that this must be the restaurant, but no one greeted us and none of the bar staff/servers made eye contact with us. We walked out of the hotel thinking that we had come to the wrong door. We saw a small sign at the the northwest corner of the building that said "Tullibee," so we figured that the entrance to the restaurant must be over there, at the side. We walked around the corner and pulled on a few locked doors. Finally, we went back to the main entrance and had to ask the front desk hotel staff where the restaurant was (go through the bar and it is at the back). A reception desk would have been nice. We made it to our table and were seated. The staff was very attentive. We ordered the "Chef's Choice," which was $80 per person. It came on several small plates with small portions. There were at least seven courses. 1. Cucumber Salad. 2. Lettuce Wraps. 3. Meatballs. 4. Pasta salad. 5. Salmon. 6. Beef Tenderloin (Filet Mignon). 7. Dessert (dessert cheese--"Gjetost" and a cookie). The food was delicious. However, the portion sizes were not satisfying. Aside from the small portions (we left hungry), we were also put-off by the junk fees and high prices. Junk fees included a 3% credit card recovery fee, and a 2% wellness surcharge, which several Minneapolis restaurants instituted during the pandemic. There is also a the higher Minneapolis sales tax. With all these fees, taxes, tipping, and parking, the whole evening got to be very expensive. Other restaurants in the suburbs are much more reasonable and a better value. read more
