We stopped in on Saturday (before St. Patrick's day). It was late afternoon and seemed like they were setting up to have an event after 4ish (which is when we were leaving). It's a smaller pub, a few tables around otherwise standing room. My friend said she had went a few years ago and it was really packed to the point you could barely move so I was happy we got out before it got to that point. We were able to get to the bar then find a seat but we did notice that people were coming in and being served at the tables, we were not approached once for service, like others. The drinks were pretty basic for the holiday but they did have a few deals going which was nice. We all got the shamrock pudding shots and one person in our group got one of the feature drinks which he said was just okay. The bartender was nice. One side kind of gave a more chill sports bar vibe while the other was more loud and party. Wasn't really my vibe either way.. getting old :(

Fun place to grab a drink and a quick bite. Service was very fast and drinks were reasonably priced. The food was a little expensive for just typical bar food, but the sandwiches there are decent. They have fun activities there throughout the week like trivia, and open mic sessions. Overall, I had a good time going here and would come back for a drink :)

First time at Morrissey's and it was a blast. Service was spot on, even with a party of ten. Our waiter was awesome as well. While taking our orders she wasn't writing anything down, which had me worried. I always take note of that when going out and there will be two outcomes from this, the waiter will just bomb and mess the entire order up or, in this case, prove her awesomeness! The Whiskey Notes: A highlight of the night was the amazing whiskey list. So happy we came during the right time of year when Morrissey received they annual allotment of just ONE bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year whiskey!! One a half ounce pour was $28 but was worth it. Even though the Old Rip Van Winkle was 107 proof you wouldn't be able to tell, it was super smooth, being aged for ten years. Side note, this whiskey is from the same distillery as the very rare Pappy Van Winkle, which is just as expensive and also very good. You can find Pappys more readily at pubs in Chicago, which has a bigger whiskey scene then Minneapolis. Another very unique whiskey was the Jameson on tap, that's right you heard me correct "whiskey on tap", crazy right?!! It was very good and had a distinct flavor to it, I'll be back to try it again. It was for $8 a ounce. One other whiskey we would like to try next time is the Jameson "Red Spot", I think aged for 15 years. Grub review: Definitely pub style food. Not upscale but not too greasy either. The chicken strips had good flavor and we ordered on the side, ranch and buffalo sauce, which is a must have for strips in my opinion. Fries were perfectly crispy too. Fish and chips were good. The fish could have used some salt and vinegar to drizzle on. One very unique dish was the curry fries. Basically they were a plate of fries with curry gravy, very delicious. The Karaoke was most entertaining, that is watching other people sing. It seemed three of the people that sang were regulars and took turns on the stage. Side bar- I wonder what they think they sound like in their own minds? haha.

It is becoming my Wednesday Trivia favorite spot. Host on Wednesday Trivia seems very much enjoying to have companies and makes Trivia night in very good atmosphere. Each booth sit up to 6 people comfortably. Wide range of whiskey menu (Irish, Scottish, American, Canadian, and Japanese). Nothing extraordinary in the food menu but surprisingly they offer Poutine as starter. If you don't mind smear with beef gravy over the totsn' fries with corn beef on top! It was pretty good. Fish and Chips comes with delicious tartar sauce as side (perhaps dill infused?). You can probably ask for malt and vinegar if you are not wild about tartar sauce. Servers are very friendly and chatty that makes you feel very welcomed. They also have a coin operated dart machine but not sure it's working. Trivia night starting 7 pm on Wednesdays. They also hold a Movie trivia night on Thursdays if you are moviegoers!

We decided to come here on a Saturday night where we knew we could be seated fairly quickly and still have our own corner of the room. This was my first time and it was a good middle of the road pub, an average fish and chips dinner, good music that was all things 70s to today and later in the evening they had karaoke which was entertaining to listen to (I'm more of a minimum three-shot tequila girl before I put my request in!) Our waitress was efficient and we were served our meal fast, party of ten notwithstanding. Overall, there's other pubs in the Twin Cities I prefer, but for a local hangout, quick service, decent menu and good drinks (with Jameson Irish Whiskey on tap!) this is the place to come!

The atmosphere at Morrissey's is very relaxed. I've noticed the few times that I've been here that it's generally a "seat yourself" type of situation once you walk in the door. There's a good amount of booths and tables to select. I tend to enjoy the comfort and spaciousness of a booth. On my most recent visit in, it took awhile to get service. It seemed like there weren't that many servers at the time, which was a bit unfortunate, but it was fine. Patience is a virtue! It gave us time to relax and take in the bar sights. Nothing too exciting happened, since it was early in the evening, but the environment was fun nonetheless. I opted for the Irish cheddar burger and wasn't disappointed. The burger was bold and juicy, and cooked to my liking. It had a lot of flavor with the cheese being a perfect compliment to the patty. Plated next to the burger were some delicious fries that had a great salt to pepper ratio. The cut of potato was good as well. While Morrissey's isn't a place that I would go every week, it's definitely somewhere that I continue to return to every so often. It's a particularly interesting place to be on St. Patricks's Day. It's a great spot to grab a drink and some pub food with others.

Morrissey's just reopened after a long hiatus due to the Rona. Not having an expanded patio or much of an outdoor dining option, I was quite concerned that my favorite Twin Cities Irish Pub would be gone for good. Needless to say I stopped wringing my hands when I saw the announcement a few days ago that they'd be opening for indoor dining under new tightened safety guidelines. They've gone so far as to take temperatures at the door which I really appreciate. I've been apprehensive about eating indoors at restaurants still. But they're doing safety and sanitation right. Bellying up to the bar has always been my preference there, but currently they are table service only. This is quite alright--the origins of the "Bar" at an Irish Pub was never for guests to sit at, but customary for members of a group to buy rounds at the bar and then sequester to their tables or "snugs". Look it up. But I digress... Morrissey's continues to have the largest whiskey selection out of all Twin Cities pubs (as far as I know) and their food is the most authentic I've tried outside of the Emerald Isle. Their menu runs the gamut from traditional boxty to fish and chips. Loving Irish dishes, but a burger freak, my favorite menu item is the Belfast Burger--aged white cheddar, rashers, and spicy house-made aioli. Pair with a Smithwick's and you'll be a happy lad or lass. They have new hours of operation so be sure to check their website before visiting. Sláinte!

The interior has that classic vintage pub feel with lots of character and natural light. There are tons of booths and different seating areas that could accommodate parties of all sizes. I especially liked the glass dividers between some of the booths, which give you a little extra privacy without making the space feel closed off. My booth also had coat hooks and easy access to outlets, which I appreciated. I could definitely see myself coming here for a working lunch. My server was incredibly friendly and helpful, especially as I was trying to figure out how to use a couple of rewards I had on my account. I specifically came in wanting to try the fish and chips. Their lunch menu offers smaller portions of several dishes from the dinner menu, including a fish and chips option for around $15. I really wanted to try the walleye, though, so I ended up ordering the full dinner portion for around $28. The fish was absolutely the star of the plate. The breading was fantastic--crunchy around the edges while still light and fluffy--and the fish inside practically melted in my mouth. The tartar sauce was also really good and paired perfectly with it. The sides, unfortunately, didn't impress me nearly as much. There were plenty of fries, but they were pretty average, and the coleslaw was mostly cabbage with a light dressing. It felt like it was missing some acidity or lime to give it a little more personality. For almost $30, I also expected the meal to be a bit more substantial. I left satisfied, but found myself hungry again a couple of hours later, so I'm not sure the dinner portion felt worth the price for me. If you're mainly curious about their fish and chips, I'd probably recommend trying the smaller lunch portion first rather than committing to the more expensive dinner version. Would I come back? Absolutely--the atmosphere, service, and location alone make The Local worth another visit, and I noticed several other dishes on the menu I'd be interested in trying. I just don't know that I'd order this particular meal again. The fish itself was excellent, but for me, the sides and overall value didn't quite match it.

TOASTING HAPPINESS…read more We drove all the way from Chicago and we needed some dinner. I called over here to find out if the kitchen was still open for food. We found out we had about an hour to order. We rushed right over because we didn't want to be getting dinner from a gas station grocery store. Yes when traveling on the road for work these things can happen when restaurants close early in unfamiliar towns. We also decided to walk because walking on icy snowy sidewalks to a bar in the freezing cold is the safest thing to do. I'm feeling my decision making was influenced by the exhaustion of driving all the way from Chicago plus I didn't want to get back into a car again. The bartender here was really cool. I felt bad that the bar was empty but I'm sure Sunday's are like that around here. They had a great all day Happy Hour on Sunday with $2 off all tap beers. I decided to enjoy a delicious Castle Danger Cream Ale. I don't see many cream ales in America. When I would work in Canada this was my beer of choice. This was before America even started sprouting up local microbreweries. I was very excited to have this beer to enjoy plus we're not that far from Canada, so it's like old times for me again. We were up against the clock for dinner and drinks with the bar closing early. In fact, I think we heard last call which encouraged us to order another round of beer. That last call wasn't the last call because it got extended by an extra hour or two. Luckily a large groups of actors came in after their show and they started drinking up a storm. The bartender was smart to not close down the bar. I never understood bars that would kick out customers who are drinking when they can actually stay open. We were across at the other end from this large group and thanks to them we got our drinking time extended. I think we got 3 more rounds in after our first last call. Now that's something to toast about. The food was good. I wouldn't call it great. It was what I expect from Irish Pub food. I decided to go fish and chips because it just felt right. It was cold and snowy and it seemed like the perfect Irish bar food. The fish was nice and crispy. I wish the batter had a little more seasoning. The fries were delicious and I ordered them crispy and the cook nailed it. I can't stand soggy or under cooked fries. I also had a side salad because I needed to even out my dinner. The salad actually makes all of the fried food healthy. It's a road trip rule. We also had the coconut crusted chicken fingers to start with. Yeah it was a fried food kind of place which totally goes great with some nice ice cold beers. Our bartender was the best. He was on top of it and actually spent time talking to us. I'm are he was bored too with an empty bar. I'd defiantly come back here if I stayed in the area for work again. I'm always a sucker for a good happy hour and it's even better when it's all day event. That gives me something to smile about. Cheers!
