Continually amazing! We stopped in here the other night for the tried and true fish and chips. O'Brien's Public House always has some of the best fish... however you like it. My husband got the fish tacos for the first time and loved them.. It was a really healthy portion and even had some leftovers. I stuck with my favorite, the cod & chips,these are always amazing! I live in Shakopee and have gone to this pub many times. the food is o.k. not wonderful but adequate. However today has caused me to give O'Brien's one star and believe me if it were possible I'd give them -1. I was supposed to meet six of my friends here today for St Patrick's Day. Our car got struck and we did not arrive until 1 1/2 hours late. We were so late that we would have just had a drink had we known there was a time limit on the table BUT our waitress, Addison 8, did not mention this and took our meal order leisurely. Just after we were served she announced to the table that we all had to leave in 15 minutes. I said I assumed it did not apply to us as we had not even started to eat. she told us it applied to all of us. She told us if I was not happy about this I could speak to the Manager. I told her I would like to. then she said I could speak to her instead but I told her I wanted to speak to the Manager. No Manager ever materialized. I probably will never go to this restaurant again. I know times are tough and I don't object to time limits on tables BUT if a customer is very late the least a server should do is let them know there is a very limited time left for them to eat BEFORE they order $70 worth of food and drinks. I will be sure to mention this matter to my friends and as I have stated i will make sure I give my other regular restaurants the business I gave O'Briens. ' read more

We had really great service and the food was really delicious. The Reuben was nice and juicy, the fry seasoning was amazing, the fish and chips was stellar and the coleslaw and tartar sauce was really good as well. I'll make this one short. I was appalled by the service and quality of food. Not sure what changed over the years, but I will not be back. It was not busy and we had to wait for about 10 minutes to be sat. We were looked at and not acknowledged. Makes the mind wonder why. The bartender/waitress was short and rude and when I had an issue paying my bill on their online portal, she tried to make a joke that "she didn't want to talk to me", but it came off completely transparent. I ordered the beef stroganoff and it was bland. The worst part? There were 4 of the smallest hunks of meat in the entire dish. I love mushrooms, but there were about 30 of them in there. I'd rather have meat, especially since the dish is listed at $22. The only thing that went well was the fries and their house ranch. Since I can get good fries at a lot of other locations that treat you with respect, I'll head there. read more

If you follow my reviews, you know I love a good Reuben. This was not that. I ordered the Reuben with a side of Leek Soup and a half-caesar salad. The salad was the best part of the meal. The Reuben was disappointing, to say the least. The meat:kraut ratio was off as there was a lot of meat and barely any kraut. The meat was thick and quite dry and the kraut has some weird pickled strips of something like banana peppers, something I couldn't identify but it changed the flavor and not in a good way. The scant cheese and sauce didn't help with the dryness. Even dipping it in my own Thousand Island didn't help. I ate almost one half and tossed the rest. When I thought of Leek Soup, I imagined plentiful leeks in a creamy, light broth. What I got was a thick cup of soup that looked and tasted more like loaded potato soup except the cubes of roasted potato chunks were chewy, there was some kind of mystery meat (round and kind of brown-ish slice) and zero identifiable leeks. I tried to eat it but only managed a few bites and then binned it. Awful. I won't order from here again. The caesar dressing was good. read more

We've been patronizing O'Brien's off/on since opening. Always good but truthfully not always great- until now. Stopped in with a group during St. Patrick's celebration. Place was buzzing as you might expect of an Irish bar but staff never missed a beat. Service was fantastic as was the food. Live music excellent and probably the best corned beef and cabbage dinner that I've enjoyed in years. Well Done! read more

Had brunch here with family, the service was a little slow and they kept forgetting items, but the guy was really friendly. Our food was ok, but we felt like our mains were very under-seasoned. The best parts were the sriracha cheese curds and the hashbrowns. It's worth a try again but it's not something that we immediately thought we wanted to go back again. read more

We had a big group (that had a reservation over 2 weeks in advance) and they were definitely understaffed. It took an hour for us to get our drinks and the food came out very mediocre.The Huevos Rancheros are not seasoned and taste very white, but it is basically a pub so what was I expecting lol. We went for lunch and had the menu between brunch and lunch. You could order burgers off the menu which is what we did. The burgers were very good and had a nice flavor. Fries were good too. Service was great. They have a Bloody Mary serve yourself which our group enjoyed. They can accommodate large groups which was good for us. Parking fills up fast in the back and side street. Lunch plans fell through elsewhere so we went here. Had a nice exterior and patio. Took quite a while to get our order. Menu looks much better and fancier than the food output actually is. I had chicken bruschetta pasta. Watery bland sauce, mushy bruschetta, dry and tough chicken. Balsamic glaze and crustini bread were good. We also had a walleye sandwich that was described as average and hot honey chicken sandwich. The chicken had been pounded very thin and the chips were soggy and seemed old. We had intended to stop somewhere else for brunch, but didn't have time to wait for a table. O'Brien's had lots of space and no wait so we ended up here! Classic pub interior. Friendly service. We had a pretzel with mustard for an appetizer that was good. My scramble was just ok, very salty. But I'd wager I just ordered the wrong thing as the avocado toast and burgers looked good! I was kind of shocked that this place had such low reviews. Food looked decent in the photos and everything smelled god as we arrived. Once inside it took a minute to get us seated, staff weren't the friendliest but on a Friday night I guess I get it. Our table of 5 got seated in a both and our drink order was taken right away. We placed our order and then waited over 35 minutes for our food. The place wasn't that busy, it was just really slow. We ordered three burgers and two chicken strip baskets- nothing overly complicated. I can't say for sure that we were checked on after got our food until to-go boxes were dropped off, we hadn't asked for them but we did end up using them. Honestly, the food wasn't great. I can't say that I will return, the service and food are not worth the price. I do think there are other options out there that we will be exploring. It seems like people either love OBH or not so much, and we fall on the not so much side of the spectrum. read more

The only reason i deducted a star was because of services. The service wasn't that great. We sat down for 5-10 mins waiting to order when the location was not busy. After ordering the order we waiting 30 minutes to get our food. The appetizers didnt come out until 20 min later and then we had to wait additional 30 to get our food. I understand that they don't have a lot of staff, however there wasnt a lot of people there. At most there were only 5 people in other booth. Food: The cheese curd was good, it is just like other cheese curd u get at other restaurant. The smokehouse wing was good, however it did not taste like gochujang and spicy. It was sweet and had a bbq taste. The burger was very good. It did have a small spicy kick to it. The fries were big and crunchy. The burger has a sauce that taste sweet and spicy. read more

I was in Shakopee for a work trip and we spent the day in the Shakopee Public Library. So first off, that is a beautiful public building, and we were able to really enjoy being there. It is just a couple of blocks from this restaurant, which looks very much like your usual bar, kind of dark inside, and not much to recommend it, other than that we were a group of about 15 and they happily seated us together, and provided us with seperate checks--with a QR code to pay by, so no having to wait for the whole crew of us to sort through our bills. You can pay traditionally, but this was a huge plus with a big crowd. But that is not why I am compelled to write this review--someone amongst us mentioned that they smoke their own meat, and so after having endures a very mediocre pastrami sandwich earlier in the week, I boldly ordered a corned beef sandwich on a pretzel roll and oh my goodness, it was perfect. The meat was delicious, replete with a deliciously smoky flavor but oh so moist. And with great mustard! I subbed out the fries for a wedge salad--which was enormous, almost a lunch in itself, and I would definitely go back. read more

Visited today for an outdoor lunch and brought our two pups to enjoy the sunshine with us. It was a thin crowd outside and service was great. The only time I popped inside was to ask if we needed to wait to be seated and was promptly helped and told to pick any open table. We were greeted quickly, ordered quickly, and drinks and food were made and delivered quickly. My husband and I each shared half of our trays and enjoyed the mix of sun and shade at our table. The server had recommended drinks for us too, both of which were light and fresh and great for the sunny summer day. Great server - attentive and professional, which was...shocking...because the kid looked like he was in high school. The chopped salad was so good but SO SMALL. A diversion from fast food, my son and I recently had a late lunch/early dinner on the patio. It was a pleasant day and the patio allowed for ample spacing. I had the cod and chips. I found the fish to be over-battered and received potato chips, not the fries as the menu stated. Despite the issues noted, the basket was OK. Son had a prime dip sandwich that he ate with apparent gusto. Our masked server was gracious and solicitous. The seating was comfortable. Conversation outside seemed effortless with background noise a hum at best. I thought the prices were on the high side for what was offered. Definitely not a gastropub in my book. But decent selection and fare for what is essentially a sports bar. is it worth a special trip? Not to me. If in the vicinity should one drop in? Pot roast it's absolutely on point. I'm a picky customer. Some menu items are not for me, but I've never been anywhere that had a top to bottom menu I loved. Was in town for my boyfriend's birthday and checked out the reviews for local restaurants and this one seemed pretty good. First thing I have to note is the bathrooms were especially clean and FULLY stocked. I'm not just talking pads and tampons (which they had) I'm talking deodorant, body spray, dry shampoo, floss, tooth picks, THE WORKS! The drinks were strong and tasty. I had a couple Bloody Marys which were good, nothing particularly special. My boyfriend had a couple long islands which were good but small. Food was excellent! I had a prime dip with chips and my boyfriend had a Cubano burger and fries. We also split the poutine! Service was good as well, not exceptional. Waitstaff is outstanding - attentive and professional. Excellent fish and chips! Nice wedge salad. Eggs Benedict was outstanding - portions perfect. Bread pudding for dessert - yum. Only downside was weak coffee (could see bottom of cup) and was lukewarm. Mentioned to staff and got a hot cup of weak coffee. Suggest they serve in mugs rather than a teacup.
