What a gem in Maple plain. The atmosphere feels like you're in a pub in Ireland or England. Had the poutine. The fries were the perfect amount of crisp and the combination of cheese and bangers and gravy was perfect. I then had the Reuben. I was told that they make their own corned beef. The bread was perfectly crisp. The corned beef was some of the best I ever had, and all the ingredients went perfectly together. I washed it down with a Killian's red. Be cautious about visiting on a Tuesday! My family and I went here for my father-in-law's birthday, and we were seated by the fireplace. It was trivia night, and it seemed like the waitresses were more preoccupied with their families and enjoying themselves than with checking on their guests. We waited for about 23 minutes without any sign of anyone arriving. Finally, the hostess seated us, brought us water after about 8-10 minutes, and we asked for a beer menu since we didn't have any. After waiting another 8-10 minutes, we went to speak to the hostess, who informed us that someone was coming. However, no one arrived, and when we were walking out, a waitress mentioned that no servers knew we were there. It was incredibly frustrating, and I hope to try this place again with my entire family someday, as the menu looked delicious. read more

We had a party of 6 including 2 children for late brunch on Sunday. We were seated immediately at a big-enough table. Service was excellent and food was delicious. McGarry's is a cute Irish pub style restaurant in the main part of town. My friend and I took advantage of their lunch specials. We picked up our food. I ordered Shepherd's Pie and she ordered chicken fingers. The food was ready in 15 minutes. I parked across the street because they didn't have curbside/drive-up service, and walked into the bar. The waitstaff was polite and helped me get my takeout food quickly. We loved our food, I definitely would go back for more Shepherd's Pie or try something else. I eat lunch here every few weeks. Staff is courteous, food is good. I enjoy the fact they have a lunch menu that is slightly cheaper. The beef commercial is filling, tasty, and just what you need in a cold winters day. Clean place with a broad menu. My husband and I visited this establishment last week for lunch. We have been coming to McGarry's for years off and on, and have always enjoyed the staff and amazing food. But this last Tuesday was appalling. As we walked through the door, 2 employees, both on the phone...and did not even look up to acknowledge us! Both of them stayed on the phone at the bar for almost 10 minutes. We stood there wondering what was going on?!! Absolutely rude. We would have easily walked out, but the food is so good there, that it is worth the wait. The waitress finally got off of the phone and sat us down, but came back twice because she couldn't remember our order!...2 meals and 2 drinks. Nice Irish American pub and restaurant in Maple Plain. We had the Blarney Stones (scotch eggs) to start - along with a Smithwick's. Both were good. McGarry's Pub is a nice Irish Pub with a good atmosphere and smooth service. Even on a crazy busy day like St. Patrick's Day, the place was packed, but still had great service and attentiveness to our needs. Knowing it would be busy, even at 3:30 pm, the 20 or so minute wait for a table was not bad. The host did everything he could to ensure that we were at a table that fit us well. The food is pretty good with modest portions. The Bangers and Irish Rolls are two decent apps to try. The Bangers have a pretty tasty sausage that encases a hard boiled egg served over a tasty mustard sauce. The Irish Rolls are a delightfully fried egg roll filled with corned beef and sauerkraut served with a thousand island sauce. If you like soup, the Potato and Leek Soup is a mug of creamy deliciousness that is rich and thick. My main entree was Fish and Chips (shh, don't rib me for being boring, I was in the mood for fish) which was pretty decent. The fish, served as two large cod filets, had good beer batter flavor with a nice fry them. Not too oily. The fries were basic and come with a special dipping sauce. Adding malt vinegar to both the fish and chips was nice. To top the meal off, my bride had the Bread Pudding, which she thought was very tasty and my daughter and I shared the Chocolate Guinness Cake, which was a flavorful experience of rich dark chocolate cake covered in a cherry flavored sauce and whipped cream. Oh, and the beer. Well, it's an Irish Pub, so there are some good Irish beers and of course plenty of whiskey from which to choose. This place is really good. The secret is to go to the bar. The servers can be a little slow and a little rude but the bar is TOP notch. Ask for Mars because he's legit as a bartender. The saving grace of all things is the Shepard's pie. I dare you to find a better Shepard's pie in the Twin Cities! They use Smithwicks beer as the base and it's very peppery. I'm in love with it and I feel like I'm might gain 10-20 pounds because I'll be back. Wowza!! read more

McGarrys is a thumbs up for a absolutely wonderful dinner. I've been here 3 times and with every dinner has been wonderful. The bread pudding snd chocolate cake is a fabulous ending to a dinner. You can either eat in the bar area or the back room. Both are wonderful areas to eat. Not loud at all and you can carry on a conversation with your date. Guys and gals! I was way out in Maple Plain for a job interview today, and needed a snack for my drive back to St. Paul. I spotted this place as I was heading out, and thought I'd give it a try. Nice, comfortable pub, several locals inside mid-afternoon, and a nice-looking menu. So I grabbed a beer and decided on the bangers & mash. Best bangers & mash I've had in the metro. The bangers were real Irish sausages, not the smoked sausages some places try to pawn off on you. It was served with 1/8th a steamed cabbage, great home-made mashed potatoes, incredible gravy, which definitely had some root veggies mixed in, and topped with pickled cabbage or kraut. Ho-lee mackerel. Not sure if I'll take the job if offered because of the commute, but if I do, one part of my decision will be access to this real gem! read more

Stopped in on a Saturday night with my wife for a couple of drinks and some apps! Service was very solid at the bar and the selection of beers is good! We got the Cuban rolls and the blarney stones (aka scotch eggs). The scotch eggs seemed to be dry but still had some flavors. Not sure if I got a not normal order as I've been told they are pretty darn good! Now the Cuban roll was outstanding and packed with flavor and great size for an appetizer! Next trip in I will get the corn beef as I hear that's their staple! This has been a local spot for my family as I grew up in Delano. We have had several experiences here where the food is great! but the service is less than good. We have always experienced sub par service at the bar, and in the dining room. My dad and I sat at the bar with a gift card, I had asked after she finally noticed us if she could tell me the remainder of the balance. She said something a long the lines of 'I can't do that'. It took us another 10 minutes for her to come back to discuss the menu. She did not try to upsell or give any input on choices. My dad had asked for a dish that was on the menu before, but instead of explaining that they change them menu she torted 'thats nowhere on our menu we dont serve that'. I ordered the Avocado BLT and my dad had Meatloaf/mashed potatoes/and coleslaw. Dishes were great. I was absolutely pleasantly surprised that the ABLT was done REALLY well. Thicker bacon and seasoned. I wish I could over look the poor service but in a town like Maple Plain I don't think you can be a passable restaurant just because it had great food. read more

We became regulars here pretty quickly after moving to the west metro area. They are one of those places where you come in for a meal and a drink, and get blown away by what it is. Locally grown and sourced building blocks put together by a skilled chef staff and served up by a friendly hard working serve crew. The menu is just right, not too big, not too small, changing with the seasons, but with quite a bit of variety and everything has great flavor and presentation. The bar is simple, with an Irish pub feel, again with a good variety of drinks, beers, and wine. If you're looking for a great after work spot on the west metro side, check this place out. They also have a great brunch on Saturday and Sunday. You get a local, friendly feel, with an upscale kitchen delivery. I really want to like this place! The ambience is wonderful, Irish-themed bar that is refreshing for Maple Plain. The beers are good and the service is attentive. My missing 5th star is due to the food. My husband ordered the fish and chips with a side ceasar. I chose to have the potato leek cream soup. The fish and chips were bland and it seemed like the plate had sat on a counter for several minutes before being served. The soup was lukewarm. The salad was disappointing in that it appeared the bottom part of the salad had been dressed and then sat, but some fresh romaine was tossed on to the top. Some of the bottom leaves were very wilted and several leaves were of questionable freshness. If you decide to visit here, I suggest sticking with the burgers. I'll go back sometime, but not very soon. read more

Always fabulous dining -.tonight my fried cod sandwich was fabulous with the best homemade tartar sauce. My husband is never disappointed with their meatloaf, sauce, fresh from the garden veggies and oh so tasty Yukon gold mashed potatoes. And then there are so many great Irish beers on tap - I always choose the Harp and my husband's choice is the Black and Tan. Fabulous breakfasts too! read more
