Nestled in downtown Elk River, McCoy's Pub has been around for over 20 years. I'm honestly not surprised. Their wings were flavorful, crunchy, and paired well with the fries/ranch. Don't sit at a table, well unless you want to file an insurance claim when the chair breaks. I used 4 different chairs, not one was safe, plus tables might as well have been the tiltawhirl... The food was okay -- mostly a good place if you want to drink and hang out with friends. I stopped by for dinner on Friday night. The service was great. The food came out quickly. But...I wasn't impressed with the food. My daughter wouldn't even touch her food. I'd say that it's just okay. They make a nice try with specialty burgers (like The Pit) but the food doesn't hit the target. I don't know if they need a better cook...or better materials...or both...but the food could really be a lot better than it is. For my money, if I'm eating, I'd probably go to the Sunshine Depot across the street. Like some of the other places on Main Street, McCoy's has a killer location if you want to hang out on the back deck and watch the river. -Daddy Maxx Retro P.S. Been here a few times and they never disappoint. I've had their burgers and they are so good you can't put them down. Today I had the Cuban sandwich. Sooo good! Demarlo our bartender was as good as they get. We will be back for sure! read more

The service was terrible. There was just the 2 of us there and couldnt get order right and took 20 min to get a pop refill. The chicken sandwich was bland and the pork tenderloin was dry. Would not recommend this place. read more

I was at an event that was catered by them. It's still Orthodox lent, so rather than cause a fuss, I broke the fast. For a couple of reasons it was the thing to do. First, McCoy's isn't the type place to request the vegan option. Second, the pulled pork was delicious. The coleslaw and tater salad were above average. Yep, it was a chuck wagon do. The rolls were a generous size, and tasty too. I didn't investigate where they came from. We also got the pleasure of the owner taking care of the service, too. It was the opening of a new book store, with the author William Kent Krueger. I was so thrilled to sit next to him. I said "Now this is how to have a book launch." read more

Why, oh why, must you do this to me? I so wanted to love this place! It is right down the road from me and I want to support our local businesses. I am not interested in chain restaurants and there is a huge opportunity to have a business like this shine in the morass of mediocrity. We stopped by on a Friday for lunch and were expecting it to be busy, main street elk River was packed with cars and parking was tough to find. We walk into the place shortly after noon and find a dozen guys around the bar and less than half of that seated for eating. The place can probably has accommodations for about 65-75 people for eating. We got seated and we all perused the menu. The deep bass thumping of the jukebox was drowning out our thoughts as all decided on the "McCoy Burger". Just a 3rd pound burger with lettuce tomato and pickles. My daughter and I ordered a side of fries and my wife, a side of onion rings (highly recommended by the waitress). Since we were the only ones ordering, we heard the sizzle of the burgers as they hit the grill. In less that 20 minutes, the food was at our table. The food looked appetizing and we were starving! We dug in. The first bite was promising and not to bad tasting, but then came the second and third bites. Um, not so good. McCoy's touts itself as the "Home of the Great Hamburger". Really? The burger tasted like one of those microwave varieties. You know, uniform thickness, not juicy, that certain gray hue along the edges, almost mystery meat like. Dang it! The sourdough bun was pretty huge compared with the burger and the condiments were uneventful. The best part of the meal was the fries. The1/4 inch cuts were nice and crispy on the outside and nicely done in the middle. The onion rings were just OK. They are suppose to be homemade (I am not saying they aren't), but they were very average. As far as the ambiance, the place was clean, the wait staff was terrific and we felt comfortable and at home (except for the too loud "lunch time" music). OK, here is my rant. Downtown Elk River has a butcher shop, a couple of bakeries and a farmers market. Why can't they use all locally grown and produced food, put in a little extra effort, and just blow away the competition? This place is no better than a chain. In fact, I am really disappointed that I can go to allot of other places and get a better burger. To get great food, I guess our weekend trips to Minneapolis will continue. read more

If you find yourself in Elk River needing a bite to eat, you might want to check these guys out. I went during the week for a lunch trying out the beef and mash potatoes. The food was pretry good. Good food. Great service. Exceptional prices. I made it for a late lunch today and grabbed 2 for 1 margaritas and ordered a BBQ Pulled Pork Nachos and a Pit Burger. Good place for inexpensive beer. Service variable depending on who you get. It is definitely a dive bar so don't expect clean. Food also variable. If you get a fresh bun for your sandwich, the sandwich will be ok. But they will pull old, stale bread from the freezer - yuck!!! Bread is too cheap to ruin a sandwich. Also be forewarned that the Nachos are not Nachos. They are made with potato chips not tortilla chips. The toppings are good and some might like them. They just should not be on the menu as Nachos. Great food and atmosphere. This bar and pub is exactly what it supposed to be, burgers, sandwhiches, good specials, and great staff. We regularly have lunch business meetings here as well as an occassional happy hour and weekend dinner. I have never been disappointed, and I have ordered my fair share of diverse menu items. I have consumed my share of beer at this place over the years and it hasn't changed. We were in the neighborhood so I suggested to my wife to go in for a beer. Its the typical old-bar-in-town, grungy and everyone looks to see who walks in the door. If you aren't a regular expect to wait between beers, the bartenders rather bs with them rather than keep em comming. read more

This is a local bar that has been recently cleaned up. I highly recommend the "Garage" burger which is smothered with a sour creme/green olive mixture. Also, they make homemade potato chips which are very tasty. The eating area is right in the bar area, which may be a concern for families with young children. read more

My God this was awful. I went here with my family 7/24. We got there at 5:30 in the evening. There were only 4 other tables then us with at least 3 staff members there. By 6pm we had our first round of drinks but still no food. By 6:15 we left as 45 minutes without food was ridiculous. Despite this the l they required us to pay for our drinks. We would have tipped except that our waitress lied to us at 6pm and told us they were plating or food which they clearly were not. Never again. Any other restaurant would have at least comped our drinks with an apology. read more

I dont know what everyone else is saying here I usually have a pretty good time here. It has darts and small pool tables, and a friendly staff. I dunno if everyone else sat at a table or something but I always go to the bar. I went there also with a friend who is a regular there so that may have something to do with it. But even when I havent i still get prompt service, friendly greets, and some old stories shared. Great food but service was below par. Waitress forgot my husbands beer that we ordered and then brought it later and stated she forgot, laughed and walked away. We got our burgers, ate and had our baskets taken away before she checked back on us. For the price of the food, which was delicious, would have expected better service. read more

The food was great. I got the rueben and chips and a side of cheese curds for an appetizer. The cheese curds were generic but worth the price. They have $2 off appetizers if you check In to Facebook, so they ended up being $4 with the discount. My rueben was almost a full pound! And it was delicious! I got some kind of buffalo chips which were good but not worth a dollar more then regular chips. I asked for a side of blue cheese and it was good. The blue cheese was just the way I like it. Thick and chunky. They had a happy hour special $3 domestics. It came in a beer clean glass, meaning the glass was clean and the beer was cold. The atmosphere, although busy was lacking. I expected irish music or at most a band playing. But there was no sound except when somebody put some money in the jukebox and played 1 song. The staff was very friendly and on point. Not much in this area so if you like good burgers and beer, this is the place to go. read more

Absolutely love this bar. Yes this is a small down hole in the wall bar, but that's what you have to expect when you go. The service is good and the food is amazing. You have your typical small town guests. Sometimes you do have to wait for a drink because they are super busy but they serve everyone as fast as they can. The place isn't dirty and gringy, it's a lot better than what it used to be before it was McCoys that's for sure. Love this place! read more
