Upon entering, you will notice a small bar with an adequately stocked bar, featuring about 8 taps and a number of canned and bottled beers for your liking. There are plenty of high-top tables and booths to accommodate a decent crowd. MaGillycuddy's Bar is one of those places that instantly makes you want to settle in and stay awhile. The atmosphere strikes that perfect balance between cozy and relaxed, thanks in no small part to the awesome tin ceiling-- it kind of gives this place a vintage charm you don't see often. The crowd is just what one would expect, just regular folks enjoying a libation and watching the Wild game. And they have pulltabs!! We settled in on a high-top table and ordered beers and our lunch. The Nashville Hot Shrimp is a must-try. just the right amount of heat, and packed with flavor. The Guinness cheeseburger is an open-faced burger topped with fries, Guinness cheese sauce, and, of course, bacon. That was a bit messy, and was enjoyable, but there are some other items I will want to try before going back to that entree. My boyfriend and I were originally trying to go to a different business in the area for lunch, but they were closed and we saw this place had good ratings! I'm really glad we stopped in! There is a parking ramp and street parking in the area. Both are free. They were decorating for Halloween and it gave us such a fun vibe! We were immediately welcomed in and the service was phenomenal the entire time we were there! I would go back on service alone! The upstairs area isn't overly large but they do have tables, booths and a bar to sit at. There was a sign that said "basement closed" so I assume there was more down there. There are TV's, so this would be a cool spot to grab a beer and watch the game for sure! There is also a small outdoor seating area and is next to a fountain. The food: The deep fried pickle spears were good! The batter is light and crispy! However, because these are spears, they took a long time to cool to properly eat. It comes with jalapeño ranch, which has a slight kick but nothing crazy. I recommend getting the regular ranch too! My boyfriend got the Reuben and noted it was "solid." I got the deep fried buffalo chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries! Both were excellent! The chicken was seasoned well before battered and the sweet potato fries had a sweet/lime/seasoning that was unique and tasty! This is definitely worth checking out! read more

Went here as part of a bachelorette party bar crawl. They had karaoke and when we first got there it wasn't too busy. Everyone who wanted to participate in Karaoke was able to as well as order at least one round of drinks before it got too busy. We mostly did standard shots but I did see they had some signature drinks. The bathroom line was bit rough once it got busy. The bar is small enough to see when someone is going to towards the bathroom yet people would stand outside the bathroom and talk mess right after you close the door. We were lucky enough to grab one of the last tables and the server quickly stopped by and asked us what she could get. Of course we had to get the gilly grenade! It was such a fun shot and they have a tv going with photos and videoes of people doing the shot. We grabbed a few other drinks as we passed the time. The bar had a steady flow of people with what seemed like a good mix of regulars and not so regulars. The whole vibe was extremely welcoming and fun. I was looking for a new place to try in this area and this looked like a good spot. For lunch, I had the Walleye, which I've been eating as often as possible on my trip! Off the beaten path of downtown Anoka you will find Magillycuddys tucked away from the madness of Jackson Street. I've heard mixed reviews of this bar and after a visit for myself, I kinda fell in love with the place. Food was solid, locals were awesome, and the bartender/serving staff were super outgoing and friendly. My bartender (and owner), Todd, was the type of guy you would drunkenly pour your heart out and he would listen to every last word. Here's what I had to eat and drink on my first visit. "Gilly Grenade" I was told by a patron that this shot is a must for any first timer and I'm glad I was talked into it. A grenade themed drop shot uses Fireball Whiskey as the "pin". Once the pin is pulled it drops Cherry Dr Mcgillicuddy into Liquid Ice Energy Drink. I thoroughly enjoyed this drink and strongly recommend it if you visit. "Guinness Cheese Burger" And open faced 1/3 pound burger with a slice of thick cut sourdough at its based, then topped with a heaping mountain of crispy fries and ladled with a generous helping of DELICIOUS Guinness beer cheese, topped with diced bacon. Personally I would like to see this exact set up as a more traditional style sandwich over open face, but I wasn't mad about it. Since my first visit I have already returned a couple of times. We stopped at MaGillycuddy's in Anoka after taking our daughter on a train ride on the Northstar. The inside might not be super kid friendly, but the outside definitely is, with big picnic tables, a fun view of city streets and a fountain, and some room to run around while waiting for food. We were surprised by how good the food was; we both got burgers and they were pretty tasty, especially considering how inexpensive they were (ok, maybe we are just used to Minneapolis prices). Service was good too; the server was prompt and friendly, and was good with all the kids that were eating outside. All in all, not a bad option for lunch of dinner in downtown Anoka. read more

In the downtown Anoka area there are 6 bars. MaGillyCuddy's is not a bad choice in the grand scheme of bars/restaurants but it's my least favorite in the area. I've stopped in on three occasions and have never had more than a sub par experience. The place is at the end of the block just hidden enough from the other bars. When you walk in it's tiny but the look and feel of the place make up for it. I'm Irish, so I'm always down to try an Irish pub and this place is great for that. The food was good the one time I ate there. No complaints! Then I find out they have 2-for-1 drinks and I'm thinking "Hell yeah!" But alas, I was disappointed. The drinks are more expensive than normal. So anywhere else you could just buy two drinks for the same price or close to it. They also always bring both drinks right away which I don't love. I'm slow so I prefer bars that give you a placeholder until you're ready for your other drink. The service was never spectacular in my experience. The waitress is always a little grouchy which has become something I focus on. I like bars where employees are friendly and make an effort to recognize regular attendees. This is really something they could work on and improve. If you're going to eat, I'd say Cuddy's is worth the stop for the food and environment. All bars considered, though? My husband and I are regulars here, and we love it. It's a small place and can get really noisy because of how cramped the quarters are, but the service is great and the food is excellent. We're always attended to within minutes of sitting down, and have never needed to wait long even when it's packed. We love the food. It's a very fair price for meals that are surprisingly good. Their sandwiches are great and always come out steaming hot. If you want a couple specialty cocktails (trust me, you do!), I can recommend the Irish trash can. We found this restaurant while searching local restaurants to try and it did not disappoint. This is a small little bar/restaurant in Anoka. The decor is fun and you know it's going to be fun place when they have the lamp from A Christmas Story behind the bar. We were greeted immediately after choosing a table. We started out with Reuben rolls. These were fried to perfection with a great Reuben flavor with 1000 island dipping sauce. Great crunch and great flavor. We also tried Irish nachos. These are house made chips topped with cheese sauce, corn beef, bacon and diced tomatoes. These house made chips were amazing, fried to perfection so that the sauce didn't make them soggy. That cheese sauce has so much flavor! We shared the Guinness Cheese Burger. This is an open faced burger on a sourdough bread topped with perfectly cooked fries topped with the most amazing Macgillycuddy cheese sauce. That cheese sauce is the show stopper. And of course we tried the fish and chips. Nice portion of fish with an amazing coating and crunch. Tartar sauce was good, just a normal tartar sauce. The fries that come with the meal are delicious with a good crunch. Not a plain fry. Overall great experience and an added must go back restaurant on our list. read more

This place may have shut down. We went on a Monday and there was a sign in the window saying the place was closed Mondays. So before trying again on Tuesday, we tried calling. The phone rang twice and went to VM, but VM was full. I kept trying for the next three days, and got the same VM. The considerate thing to do would be to change their VM to say they were now closed. We traveled 45 minutes to get there the first time. If they are still open, I highly suggest they clear out their VM or answer their phones. 2-4-1's everyday?! I'm not sure if since we were sitting outside they put my boyfriends beer in 2 small plastic cups instead of 1 big glass, or if it really is 2 for one? They have a sign that says something like "2-4-1's almost everyday all day" but could it be true? A+ for the service! It was so busy (because of the Anoka Riverfest) and we were sitting outside and yet our waitress was very attentive and even found time to bring an ice cold water to an older gentleman that had tripped and scraped his arm out on the sidewalk! Amazing! The food is slightly better than good but not quite amazing. Our appetizer was crispy fries with a beer cheese sauce and crumbled bacon. Yum! No real complaints besides maybe a bit more cheese! Duh! Our meals were the famed fish and chips. 3 large, thick pieces of fish (super filling) with crispy batter. I thought it was tasty! One small issue, the bottoms of our fish got a little soft from grease but it wasn't unappetizing (in my opinion, but my boyfriend was slightly saddened by it). First visit today - the food and the service were very good! So far this is my favorite restaurant on this little stretch of Jackson Street, west of the courthouse. Four of us stopped in for the first time for lunch. We were waiting when they opened the doors at 11:00. I was pleasantly surprised by the food. It was way better than I expected for bar food. Plus, we had some special requests, and they took care of us very well, super friendly, without complaining. I know we were being a headache. My wife (the queen of special requests!) wanted a chicken sandwich instead of a burger...even though it wasn't on the menu - no problem! My father had some special low salt requests...since he's a heart patient - again, no problem! The service was fantastic! I later found out that the main person serving us was one of the owners. Great food. The wild rice soup was a little too creamy and bland. The fries, onion rings, fried pickles are superb. Their corned beef is VERY good: lean, moist, tasty. They known what they're going with the corned beef. If you get the wings, and for them well done. They weren't undercooked, but they could've used some "crisp" to them. The hot peppers on the sandwich had a nice bite; way more than Minnesota hot, but not overpowering. There are lots of corned beef dished on the menu, and even Irish bangers. Rumor has it that the banger sandwich is a creative alternative to the Philly cheesesteak... replaced the steak with sliced bangers (gotta try tthat one next time!) Since it was quiet, the cook brought out a round of food. Always good to meet the cook and have a chance to talk about the food. The bartender, Ashley, was a great host, recommended fantastic food, and was knowledgable about her Irish beer and whiskey. On tap, there was a full compliment of Guinness products, like Guinness draught, Kilkenny, Harp, and my personal favorite, Smithwicks. They also carry 18 year Jameson for those that love a fine Irish whiskey. Two changes I'd like to see are 1) Get rid of the all-black walls. This has the makings of a great Irish pub, and shouldn't look like a teenager's goth bedroom. And 2) Setup a breakfast menu. They already have the Irish bangers, so add some Irish steel cut oatmeal and a good plate of eggs. I'll be heading back to try some of the other dishes. This is too good to pass up. This place has a lot of potential for becoming one of the best Irish pubs in the twin cities area. If you are a hipster looking for some fancy paleo/vegan/cruelty- free food and an atmosphere that continually affirms how special you are, get back in your Prius and keep driving. MaGillycuddy's is rough around the edges, but in a good way. Great food and friendly, hardworking, kick-ass women (they are sooo much more than servers!!) who make it all happen. My husband and I discovered this gem on our hunt for a fish fry. Their fish n' chips are perfect - not too greasy and full of great fish flavor. The fries are tasty too. Come on a Friday night for buy one/get one drinks. We have not moved past this item on the menu because we have not tired of it yet! Service is excellent and prompt. The clientele is a great mixed bunch. The atmosphere is lively and homey at the same time. TV's are all around broadcasting various sports while you eat. Sure, there is at times an obnoxious person at the bar but that keeps it interesting! Seating is limited, but the wait isn't long and staff keeps an eye on you to make sure you get a table - not like other places where you are immediately forgotten. Wanted to find something quick yet tasty to eat in Anoka before heading to 10K Brewing. This place fit the bill. We arrived about an hour after it opened and there was plenty of space. We ordered the fried pickle Spears and the nachos to split. Normally places have fried pickles but this was different as it was an entire pickle spear. Tasted amazing and the proportion size was great. We also ordered the corn beef nachos which were served on pub chips, a great twist to nachos and I would highly recommend!
