There are plenty of high-top tables and booths to accommodate a decent crowd. MaGillycuddy's Bar is one of those places that instantly makes you want to settle in and stay awhile. The atmosphere strikes that perfect balance between cozy and relaxed, thanks in no small part to the awesome tin ceiling-- it kind of gives this place a vintage charm you don't see often. The crowd is just what one would expect, just regular folks enjoying a libation and watching the Wild game. And they have pulltabs!! We settled in on a high-top table and ordered beers and our lunch. The Nashville Hot Shrimp is a must-try. just the right amount of heat, and packed with flavor. The Guinness cheeseburger is an open-faced burger topped with fries, Guinness cheese sauce, and, of course, bacon. That was a bit messy, and was enjoyable, but there are some other items I will want to try before going back to that entree. Between the solid food offerings, the friendly vibe, and the cool interior, MaGillycuddy's has all the makings of a local favorite. It was a Friday night, but we arrived a bit after 5 pm and the place was completely full. However, we didn't wait long for a table because turnover is quick. This is the second time I've eaten at this location and the food and service is consistently good. The 5-8 Club claims they invented the Juicy Lucy, as does Matt's Bar. (For those who don't know, a Juicy Lucy made of two thin hamburger patties stuffed with cheese and then grilled, resulting in liquid lava in the middle of your hamburger.) My wife says that she prefers Matt's Jucy Lucy (note spelling difference) because the burgers are smaller, meaning the cheese to meet ratio makes it more cheesy, where 5-8 uses a larger burger, so it seems as if they use less cheese. I'm not a huge fan of either (I'd rather have a conventional burger), but personally I'd opt for the larger burger with more meat than cheese. Also, I give points to 5-8 for spelling Juicy correctly. The fries that come with the burger were seemed like they were battered, but were hot and tasty. I opted for the Wings and chose the Thai Chili sauce. The wings were great! I have been into wings lately and these were very meaty and were well crisped on the outside, but juicy (or jucy) on the inside. The Thai Chili sauce was sweet and a bit tangy, but certainly not overly spicy. The wings came with celery sticks and a blue cheese dressing that had actual blue cheese in the dressing. Service was friendly and surprisingly good, considering how busy they were. All in all, it was a good experience. There menu is typical bar food, but they do it well.

On the special menu I saw a sloppy Joe grilled cheese. It almost looked awkward. But the sloppy Joe part got my interest up. So our amazing Sarah came up with a way for me to get one on a good size burger bun. It hit the spot. I was getting full and forced it down it was so good and good fries that I only had room for a few. This actually won out over the Monday night special of a build your own burger for $8.99. Every night has a special and they ALL look good. The iced tea is home brewed not on the gun and that was delicious as well. A bar restaurant is usually where you'd give it a 4 star, yet nothing was wrong. It was our first time in Andover and if you are in the Highway 10 area go the extra few miles it's worth it.

My son got the wings (half buffalo, half sweet heat). The wings are always yummy here! I'd give them an 8.9/10. Overall, it's a great spot to stop for dinner, especially if you're catching a movie afterward since it's within walking distance of Andover Cinema.

There's a whopping 24 lanes. I watched a while as my food was being prepared. They were busy as hell and bustling with activity. They look really well organized. Impressive. The bowling alley also has a big arcade and a "Snack Bar" window that's, essentially, the back side of the kitchen. There were servers running all over the place keeping people fed and hydrated with their drinks of choice. The final thing that really struck me is the huge diversity of people in attendance. There seemed to be every race and every economic level represented, all having a great time together in one building. I saw everything from beat-up pickup trucks to brand new fancy luxury cars in the parking lot. Cool. Normally I'd go with 3 stars with a place like this. We decided to check the event online and noticed that the event had advertised as "no cover" so we were misled. We spoke with the manager who was initially reluctant to offer any compensation or understanding of the situation. Eventually she allowed us to move inside for our money back. It was at this time that we also found out that we had been double charged for wristbands as people had arrived at different times. The manager helped us to solve the dilemma but she was again not the kindest and was short. If I could review that part of the experience alone I would say 0/5 stars. Lucky our time here did turn around, the server for our table was so kind and attentive. The pizzas were very good. Perfect for any group with plenty other of options. Pizza is what is on the menu downstairs and the upstairs has a fancier menu. They were offering football special and free shots during the game but they didn't seem to have it all figured out.
