Please be aware that there are six locations for the 5-8 Grill. The one I am reviewing is in Champlin. My first impression was that this place was really busy. It was a Friday night, but we arrived a bit after 5 pm and the place was completely full. However, we didn't wait long for a table because turnover is quick. This is the second time I've eaten at this location and the food and service is consistently good. The 5-8 Club claims they invented the Juicy Lucy, as does Matt's Bar. (For those who don't know, a Juicy Lucy made of two thin hamburger patties stuffed with cheese and then grilled, resulting in liquid lava in the middle of your hamburger.) My wife says that she prefers Matt's Jucy Lucy (note spelling difference) because the burgers are smaller, meaning the cheese to meet ratio makes it more cheesy, where 5-8 uses a larger burger, so it seems as if they use less cheese. I'm not a huge fan of either (I'd rather have a conventional burger), but personally I'd opt for the larger burger with more meat than cheese. Also, I give points to 5-8 for spelling Juicy correctly. The fries that come with the burger were seemed like they were battered, but were hot and tasty. I opted for the Wings and chose the Thai Chili sauce. The wings were great! I have been into wings lately and these were very meaty and were well crisped on the outside, but juicy (or jucy) on the inside. The Thai Chili sauce was sweet and a bit tangy, but certainly not overly spicy. The wings came with celery sticks and a blue cheese dressing that had actual blue cheese in the dressing. Service was friendly and surprisingly good, considering how busy they were. All in all, it was a good experience. There menu is typical bar food, but they do it well. read more

Fun place good food. I had a burger and fries and a glass of wine. The wine was overpriced and a very small poor I even had to ask the waitress on my second glass of wine if they could at least fill it a little bit more she agreed. The price of the food is a little high for what you get, but we will go back. read more

I've been ordering from 5-8 Grill & Bar for the past few years now, and not once have I been disappointed or unsatisfied with my orders. Yes, I use Uber Delivers. I always order the Lucy's Sunny Side -- stuffed with cream cheese and bacon bits, then topped with a fried egg and Hollandaise sauce. The perfect joint to go to when I need a greasy, feel-good meal and a beer. Knowing there is a battle between Matt's & 5-8... I VOTE 5-8 every time. The service is always quick and polite. My favorite Juicy Lucy's in Minnesota! I've been to 5-8 grill a few times and am never disappointed. The service is always great. They are very friendly and quick. It is a homey bar and grill. Jay was so sweet and so kind. As soon as we say down, we had her utmost attention- even though she was attending many other tables. She was so great! Made me my 14 year old daughter and 100 year old grandfather feel like the only customers in the room, which says a lot being as how it was Saturday night rush hour... The food was amazing, everyone LOVED their meals. So basically, food is amazing, service is amazing, prices are amazing... Cod sandwich was tasty as well as the salad with grilled chicken. Love the sanra fe ranch. One thing that would make it better in the bar is turn the AC to above 70 degrees. It is too frigging cold. We found a booth in the bar area without any problem. Steph and Jay did a great job with serving and bartender. The food arrived hot and as described in the menu and expected. I stopped in for a burger and a few beers on Halloween night and was blown away! While I have visited the original, "world famous", Minneapolis location a time or two, this was my first visit to the Champlin location. The restaurant it fairly large. When you walk in the dining area and bar are split upon entry. This is a concept a rather enjoy. Keeping the bar separate makes the dining area quieter and more family friendly.... And the bar area feeling more like a bar. I went against the grain and ordered a burger off the "classic" menu rather then a Juicy Lucy that 5-8 is known for. This was the right move and I highly suggest trying one for yourself. I went with the Garlic Cheese Burger or "GCB". A 1/3 pound patty with cheese on a toasted garlic French roll. This burger was AMAZING. This location offers a full bar and the tap beer list is mediocre, featuring your typical mainstream distributor beers.... A few domestics, Summit EPA and Surly as their local crafts, as well as a few national favorites. The service was excellent. The gal behind the bar was prompt to greet me and took my drink order quickly. Very friendly. Overall the atmosphere at this bar is pretty laid back and makes for a great spot to have a burger and watch the game. read more

Love the 5-8 and have never had a bad experience. We don't get the chance to visit often but stopped in recently for a mid week lunch with the family. It was seat yourself and we opted for the restaurant side vs the bar side but both are great and just depend on the vibe you're looking for. Our waitress greeted us quickly and took our drink order. We then ordered our apps and lunches and she made sure we knew about the daily deal (two American juicy Lucy's and a fry for $20 which is pretty good!) We got beer cheese pretzel which was 3.5/5. Sauce was good but pretzels were really buttery. American juicy Lucy, pepper Jack juicy Lucy, California burger and the Frisco melt juicy lucy. All the burgers were solid 4-5/5. We opted to try regular fries, Jo Jo's and sweet potato fries. My favorite were the sweet potato fries as they came with a marshmallow blue cheese sauce. That was the perfect match for the fries. Overall, the servings are pretty large, so we went home with a good amount of fries and a few half burgers . Service was great and parking is plentiful at the Champlin location. Definitely a good stop when your in the mood for the famous juicy Lucy! read more

The Juicy Lucy is one of the best burgers around. The service here is amazing. It's never to loud or quiet.

Friendly place as soon as we walked in the door. The bartender knew our drink orders without even asking.

5-8 is a solid, no frills restaurant where you can get a really, really good burger. They've got a nice patio and plenty of dining space inside. Staff has always been friendly and welcoming. I can really only rate my experience off one burger - the Saucy Sally. That is 100% what I'm going to get when I go to 5-8 and I can't see myself deviating from that any time soon. It's an excellent way to experience a Jucy Lucy, and the sauce is phenomenal. I wish they had a little more variety in terms of cocktails and beer, but overall the food makes up for it. read more

Cheese curds were plentiful and big. They don't have the taste quality of state fair curds but were still better than most.  The Juicy Lucy's and burgers are okay. I usually get just cheese on it.. yes plain however, I don't have the lack of flavor at other restaurants. The burgers just seem to need a little seasoning on them. They aren't bad but something is missing.  Fries were okay. We don't recall disliking the fries here but maybe something changed? I've gotten carrot sticks vs fries the last few times but was in the mood for fries last night. We like the wings. The only complaint is sometimes they are cooked perfect and are moist and juicy, other times they are overcooked with pieces so hard you can't eat them. It's unfortunately pretty close to a 50-50 chance and that's the only reason why we stopped dining here as often. We usually get the Buffalo, Sweet Chili or PB&J. The PB&J was a pleasant surprise the first time we tried them. We got 6 pieces of celery with 24 wings. I prefer a couple more. I really liked the ranch. It was a good in-between consistency of thick and runny. It had a house made flavor. Bleu cheese is good as well. It's not super chunky but has a good amount of chunks for us.  They have a kid's menu that comes with crayons. Service had always been great, including interactions with management. We have always had great food and service at the Champlin 5-8 Club. Today we had the same, and we were a family group of 7.!!

The broasted chicken was very tasty and our waitress was very attentive & friendly and the beer was ice cold!

A classic jury lucy at a restaurant that does not hide what they do best. There onion rings and onion tower our favorites of mine. And the pig pen roll is surprisingly good. They have juicy lucy of all types, including several cheese and combinations for those that like that. My favorite item on the whole menu is the sauce sally. A juicy lucy with house sauce that is messy to eat in the best way possible. So good!!!!!. They have basic craft and beer on tap and rail drinks, so I wish there was more to this. Patio is great for good outdoor eating, though service can be slow if it gets busy. Will definitely keep coming here. read more

Have always had great experiences at the 5-8. It's like spending time with family. Great food! Great service! Great clientele.

I won't go here due to the slow service even when no customers, the huge price increase ON TOP OF a 3% service fee. And you should be making it apparent on your door and when seating that you will be charged additional fees to patronize the restaurant so it is in advance and you can decide whether you still want to eat there not after. That seems like a shady way to do things and in addition since you don't make it real apparent some people might not notice which to me is like ripping people off by sliding in extra things without their knowledge making the bill higher. read more
