George & The Dragon is a super cool restaurant that my hubby and I tried for a double date night with our friends. We came on a Monday night at 6:15pm. This place does get busy so definitely keep that in mind. Luckily I made reservations ahead of time so we had a table waiting for us, otherwise we would have been put on a waiting list since it's a small space. They put us in a corner booth which was nice and spacious enough for 4 people so I'd definitely recommend asking for a booth verse a table if you're planning to come with a larger group. The servers are all very friendly and helpful. I appreciated their attentiveness and sharing what they like best, especially for what's in season based on the time of year. The menu has quite a bit of variety too which is sometimes unexpected when you come to a pub-style location. For appetizers we got Onion Ring and Fried Pickles. They were both really good and served with dipping sauces. Definitely both shareable items so if you're in a group they'd be great options! My entree I chose the Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon served with lemon soy marinade, creamy cucumbers, and jasmine rice -- it was SO good!! I loved the creaminess of the cucumbers especially with the rice and than the lemon soy marinade was just a unique touch to the salmon. Toned the flavors down without overpowering acidity. And the salmon was so dreamy, a beautiful pink color that you just knew it wasn't a farm raised salmon. Plus the portion was very generous!! I'd definitely recommend the Alaskan Sockeye Salmon to anyone interested in visiting here. #eatwildsavewild The only negatives (which are more so just knowledge bombs for you): * Restaurant is VERY loud. It's hard to hear because it is one small room that everyone plus the bar is in. I wished I would have took a picture to show what I mean. Just know that if it's an intimate setting you're looking for this is not the place. So be prepared to talk loudly over the loudness and ask "excuse me?" or "repeat that" many times throughout your visit because you're not going to hear everything. * Timed eating. Because this place is a hit with limited seating, once you get a table and complete your meal/payment you'll kindly be asked to leave so that they can clean up and open the table to next in line. Totally get that and am not put off by this at all, but I could see how it could catch some folks off guard especially if you are out for a meal with folks you may not see frequently-- so just keep that in mind. This is not the place to sit and talk post meal. * Parking is limited. Be prepared to walk a few blocks as the road parking in front of the business is pretty limited especially with the other stores and restaurants in the area. Regardless of those few bullets I highly recommend folks visit George & The Dragon. It's a really cool spot and the food was great! Plus theirs a malt shop right next door that looks yummy too, so definitely worth visiting and getting malts after for dessert. read more

What I thought was a local bar with some good grub, turned out to be a restaurant with a nice bar. G & D's menu is diverse, interesting, and would meet the needs of anybody, including those picky eaters. Service was warm, helpful, and had a ready laugh. We were with our daughter, and although she's now forty, I still act goofy around her. That's why our server's laugh was appreciated. Now everyone in Minneapolis enjoys a goofy 75 year-old man. The dishes are huge at George and the Dragon, so bring a large appetite. G & D occupies a lovely and bright space and welcomes an eclectic crowd. It is a dining destination for South Minneapolis. This restaurant has been on my list to try for a long time and I am so glad we found the time to finally experience it. The customer service was excellent. The host was funny and witty. The food was phenomenal. We tried the onion dip appetizer and it was full of flavor and the oven baked bread with it was a perfect complement to the dip. I tried the fish and chips and it came out steaming hot and was some of the best fish and chips I have ever had. The blood orange hard seltzer was also delicious. I am glad I found a new one I like. Everyone at the table tried something different and not one person went home hungry or disappointed. Everyone raved about how good the food was. The waiter went above and beyond. Even with it being bus he was on top of refilling the waters at the table. The restaurant is quant. Kind of reminds me of a new version of an English pub. Glad I was able to cross this off of my bucket list! There is street parking nearby. The space itself is small, so if going at dinner time there may be a bit of a wait. There is a small bar and thankfully we were able to snag some seats at the bar shortly after arriving so we skipped waiting for a table. It is a tad dim in the restaurant, but the vibes are cozy and warm. We started with the Bacon & Onion dip and it was DELICIOUS. It was creamy and savory, and made for the perfect appetizer! For an entree I got the Beef Rib Toastie with fries. The fries were very good and reminded me of my grandmas! The sandwich was tasty with cheddar, onion, arugula and horseradish cream. I meet three high-school buds every other month and it was my turn to pick a restaurant. I picked George and the Dragon. A cozy neighborhood bar restaurant. I walked in and was surrounded by families who had walked over to the 50th and Lyndale spot. Nice feeling!! Service was super friendly and timely. Food was above average bar food. I love this little neighborhood pub because it is unique and offers some things that feel like my kind of comfort food. It can be hard to get into because it is popular with the locals so a wait should be expected around mealtimes. It has the feel of a well-loved community gathering spot. There are maybe a 18 beers and ciders on offer, both draft and cans with a few unique ones (there is a draft from the UK, a couple Belgians, many local micros, a couple in large format, etc.) plus10 or so wines by glass and bottle. What I really like about it though is the menu because it is less traditional US Bar food and more interesting with an International nod. The traditional churched up salads, burgers and fish and chips are there but the menu nods to Asia if you know where to look. They have Filipino Lumpia on the starters, a daily Indian curry special, and I finally found a rice bowl with good, short grain rice like I grew up with (not some Uncle Bens Converted crap from a box). While the rice bowl on the menu is great, my pro tip is to order the fall off the bone ribs from the starter menu, a side of rice, and 2 fried easy eggs. It is as close to a great plate lunch from HI that I have found in South Minnie. The staff here are great and the vibe is casual which makes it easy to want to go here for a meal with fam and friends to just share some time together. I discovered it kind of by accident from a server at another cafe that knows what I like. I decided to give it a try and have been coming back ever since. It really goes to show that a place does not have to be a fancified, trendy place in a hipster real estate district in order to be simply great in its own way. We had great service from Rachel. We found out about this place because of the Guy Fieri video. So when we got here, we had to try the bacon and onion dip which was amazing. And for our entrées, my wife had fish and chips, and I had the braised beef with mashed potatoes and snap peas. My wife absolutely loved her fish and chips, she said it was very light, refreshing, and beautifully done. Turtle sauce was especially good. The braised beef rib was as tasty as I wanted it to be. The mashed sweet potatoes and gravy were fantastic with it. This was a fantastic dining experience and a total response instantaneous decision for us tonight that we are grateful we made. Low key place, decent food. Music plays low as ambiance drowning conversations. It's not a big place but you can seat at bar and order food. The bartender was very knowledgeable of menu and "today's specials". He's very clear when communicating and asks questions back. He was very efficient serving drinks with a friendly demeanor. It's located near a busy stores strip with stores like Anthropologie, free people, loft vintage, and the sort. Food is good just not enough of it. Husband stayed hungry. Would I recommend? We had dinner here a few weeks ago on a Wednesday evening. Street parking was pretty full but we only needed to walk a block. It was 7:30 and we did not have a reservation. We were told it would be over 30 minutes so we wandered into the gift store next store and checked back in 20 minutes and our table was ready. We all loved our dishes, and we were glad we did not skip dessert because the key lime was some of the best I've had outside of Florida. I came here based on a recommendation from a friend who travels as much as I do and damn was this place great! I had no expectations as I was just looking to grab dinner but was left with a place I'll return every trip. The dinner was fantastic and the beer was a highlight for me. It was extremely cold and snowed that day so I needed a warm place to grab a pint and fill up on food and this checked those boxes perfectly. The staff were great and it kept this lonely guy entertained as we discussed the place and some of my travels - they must've noticed I was looking for someone to talk to that night. I immediately entered it in my 'Want to Go' list - and since our son and his fiancé also enjoy unique food, we found ourselves making reservations for dinner later that weekend. I have to admit a bit of apprehension when we first walked in, as it appeared to be a very high-end restaurant...and you know what that means: $$$$. Once the menus were distributed and I got my first look at the pricing, my stress levels dissipated. In the end, I gave Value a 5* rating (a rarity for me). While the portions were a little small (I'd say reasonable...I had room for dessert and didn't leave feeling stuffed), the pricing was also what I would consider reasonable - especially given the quality of the food. So, let's get into the good stuff...the delicious food! I wasn't sure that we could eat appetizers in addition to our main courses, but others at the table thought better, so we started with an order of Onion Rings (see pictures) and Bacon Onion Dip (see picture). Both of them were delicious and are highly recommended! The dip was so creamy, yet light at the same time and the onion rings were some of the best I've had - golden brown appearance, they bit off cleanly with the rest of the ring remaining intact and a great ratio of batter to onion. For our main courses, I ordered the Beef Rib Toastie (see picture) and others ordered the Steak Sandwich (see picture), Asian Hangover (see picture), Braised Beef Rib (see picture) and Crispy Chicken (see picture). All of them had great reviews from our wonderful server, Peyton - and all are highly recommended. If you follow my reviews, you know that we usually all order different things at our table and share samples - so I can tell you firsthand that all of them were delicious! I didn't eat there, but I did take out on fish fry Friday. The service was quick and easy because it was done online. We got there at 5:02, and pick up was 5:00, and it was ready. We drove back home 10 minutes and the steam was coming out the boxes. It was still warm and good. So good I forgot to take pictures! I can see what the hype is about. My picky 18 year old said it was good! The size of fish was plentiful. 5 thick, lightly batter fried fingers(tender) with a handful of fries. Homemade tartar sauce which was tasty despite the dark color, lol. A container for tartar sauce, ketchup and vinegar. We were full and couldn't eat everything. With big, welcoming booths, tables spread about in the center, and a bar off to the side, George's layout is simple, effortless, and inviting. In true pub form, the variety of beers on tap, including Lagers, IPAs, Stouts, Cream Ales, Blondes and Sours, are sure to suit a range of presences. Along with a few beers, we started with the recommended Bacon and Onion Dip. An unassuming white dish comes filled with a warm and spreadable cheese mixture infused with onion and bacon bits. Simple slices of toasted bread act as a vehicle for this creamy goodness. Although we devoured the rich dip, our hunger staved off, we proceeded to order three additionally rich dishes. The Dragon's Milk Braised Beef Rib was a table favorite. Fall apart beef melts with velvety mashed potatoes and vibrant snap peas. The Classic Fish and Chips was solid. Strips of fried Alaskan Cod in finger-like pieces came with homemade tartar sauce and thick cut fries. I ordered the Dragon Burger with a single patty, melty pepper jack cheese, chipotle mayo and pickled peppers. I wash the patty had been a bit juicer and the bun a bit softer, but the battered snap peas that accompanied the burger made up for any slight dissatisfaction. With a perfectly oily yet light and crispy coating, these peas dipped in a touch of aioli are magic. A true pub in the adorable Lynnhurst neighborhood! read more

We looked this restaurant up on Yelp while visiting and touring around Minneapolis Minnesota. We decided on having lunch here. The restaurant was pretty busy but there were two booths open and we were seated quickly. We read the tips about the bacon onion dip and wanted to try it! It was so delicious, if you go, you have to try it! It comes with enough grilled toast pieces to finish the dip! Their hand cut chips are also good dipped in the dip. I tried the homemade ginger ale, it was delicious. Had nice small pieces of fresh ginger in it and was served with a slice of lime-great combo. For my entree I decided on the: BEEF RIB TOASTIE Aged Widmer cheddar, caramelized onion arugula, horseradish cream It was served on-nicely toasted bread. It was tasty but for the price I think they could put at least one more meat slice. Only had two slices. I had to immediately look up the recipe for the bacon onion dip-it is online. They split into 2 cups so we could share an order and that was perfect. It comes with pretzel bread - which is excellent. We both had a burger and they were cooked to medium rare as requested. Toppings on the Uncle Bryan burger included blue cheese, bacon and avocado. The fries here are stellar, nice and thick. But I recommend the battered snap peas - my favorite.
