We came in to watch a football game and it was nice because it wasn't too crowded. They had a lot of TVs to watch games and most of the tables could accommodate groups of 4. They had a decent selection of beers and we enjoyed a number of their appetizers: chicken strips and fries, fried pickles, and mozzarella sticks. All were fantastic. Brandon was our waiter and he was phenomenal - super personable and on top of it even though he was responsible for a very large section! Brian M was our server and he was fantastic. We found this place because I was in charge of directions and "knew where I was going"....in the wrong direction. So it was surprising when we saw a Husker flag outside the bar and people inside. Apparently, this is the official bar for Husker alum and fans to come to for game days! We already plan on stopping by for a game in the future! I wasn't expecting anything when we came into a bar for breakfast, but they had a nice, quick menu for us to choose from. You also had the choice of a bloody or screwdriver for $3 with breakfast. I had the bloody and the found out that there is a Build Your Own station so I was able to pick what went in it and make it myself which was great! The eggs were pretty bland, but everything came out super fast. The bacon was perfect and the cheesy potatoes were the bomb. Good spot. I recommend it. It's next to the Embassy Suites and they actually have a direct connection from inside the hotel's lobby. I like the fish and chips and they know how to build a Guinness. Favorite new Minneapolis bar! Being from Nebraska, this place was like walking into a bar in Lincoln, except today everyone was in Vikings or packers gear instead of red and white. We literally stumbled into the place after walking the wrong direction on the way to US Bank stadium. It's still walking distance to the stadium, which is great. They had a Vikings special game day breakfast which was a deal! $12 for a hearty, yummy breakfast (manage your expectations, it's a diner style breakfast) and $3 for your first Bloody Mary or screwdriver drink. They're strong! We didn't need more than 1 drink each, which meant we paid only $35 for two huge meals and two drinks. The service is quick, friendly, and casual. Our server took the time to explain to us why there's a Nebraska bar in Minneapolis. They have a Bloody Mary bar with a ton of different toppings and add-ins, my husband had fun making his own custom drink. I opted for a screwdriver, it was strong but I could still taste the OJ above the vodka. We both got the red eye breakfast (a big portion of scrambled eggs, toast, cheesy hash browns, and 2 sausage links or bacon). I got the sausage and they were cooked perfectly. Stopped into Lyons Pub in downtown Minneapolis with a group of five on Friday evening around 7:00pm. It's a casual, seat-yourself spot, and we were able to find a table pretty quickly. Note, parking is either in a nearby ramp or metered street parking, so allow yourself extra time to find a spot. We kicked things off with a couple of appetizers. The fried pickles were served as spears (not chips), and they were delicious--crispy and not soggy at all. The JUMBO mozzarella sticks we were looking forward to trying the and one of the main reasons we wanted to visit. They were definitely oversized and tasty, although one arrived without any cheese inside (which was strange). After an individual in our party mentioned it to the server, she brought us a replacement that actually had cheese, and it was much better. Others in our group ordered the club sandwich and the pork quesadilla. The club got great feedback--fresh and filling. The quesadilla was okay but didn't wow; said they've had better versions elsewhere. I had the fish and chips and thought it was solid--crispy batter and cooked well, though nothing special. I was very tempted to order the chocolate cake for dinner (it caught my eye immediately when I was looking at the menu), but I decided to be responsible and not get it. A fun surprise was the complimentary pub popcorn--always a nice touch! The main downside of our experience was the volume level. The music was loud--so loud that it was hard to hear others at our table, which made conversation a bit of a challenge. Service-wise, our server was fine. She got everything we needed, but she didn't seem particularly warm or enthusiastic. The interaction felt more transactional than friendly. Overall, Lyons is a solid downtown pub with a few standout appetizers, a casual atmosphere, and classic pub food. We stopped in after the Twins game for a quick bite. Super close to Target Field which was nice and it wasn't too busy so we found a spot to sit right away. Our server was fantastic, super quick and prompt and refilled our drinks multiple times. We got mozzarella sticks and fish and chips. Everything was tasty! The mozzarella sticks are huge but they aren't super greasy which was nice and they breading was crispy but not overwhelming. Pretty much the perfect mozzarella sticks. The fish and chips had a similar breading which we liked and they weren't super greasy which you sometimes see with fried fish. Chips were good as well and it's a decent portion for the price. These came out hot and fresh and we had malt vinegar with our fish. Overall, we will definitely be back and this is a great spot downtown! read more

Came to Lyons pub for dinner as it was directly next to our hotel and we weren't super hungry. It's definitely a fun vibe in this pub and the decorations are pretty neat. We were able to seat ourselves and then a server came over with menus. We ordered the soup and salad and sandwich and soup combos. I ordered the beer cheese soup and a house salad. Sadly I have to say this may be the worse beer cheese soup I have ever had in my life. It was topped off with popcorn which honestly was the only edible part. The beer cheese soup was extremely salted and filled with skin as if it kept being cooked and reheated. It was inedible. My salad was great though. My boyfriend ordered the Rueben and beer cheese soup. He was able to eat a bit of the soup but agreed it was horrible. He ate his entire sandwich as he said it was delicious however it would've been better if they toasted the bread fried. There is even a door that connects directly to our hotel so you don't need to walk outside in the cold which was pretty cool. We would probably come back as the pricing is fair and on the cheaper side and just stick to anything but the soup. Our server was great but she was definitely busy running around. I've had a chicken sandwich, a French dip, and an ahi tuna sandwich, and all were good. I especially appreciate that the side salad (substitute for fries) isn't simply an afterthought, providing a reasonable helping of veg (it can be hard to eat healthy when traveling!). We mainly came to drink, but ended up getting some food here too. We got the watermelon shots that they had on special - they were delish! It took our server a while to get them to us, but it was a super busy night. 2024 Update: Lyons Pub has become one of my favorite bars for downtown happy hour! Great drinks for decent prices. While nearby competitors charge $14-16 for my favorite cocktails, I can find great options here for $8-11 per drink. Service was excellent during yesterday's happy hour. Their outdoor sidewalk patio is perfect for a late summer or fall happy hour, complete with nice views of the Minneapolis IDS building on one side and the Twins stadium on the other. And you can't beat the location! I would still eat dinner elsewhere, but come here for happy hour! read more

We are in town for a volleyball tournament which means everything near our hotel is filled with girls and parents and when we walked into Lyons Pub as a group of 8 we didn't need to wait and were seated right away. That's enough to get 5 stars from me! However, the service and food were just as amazing. With lots of food ordered with modifications made, our server was incredibly patient and everything came out just as requested! This is a great pub. They work together like a family run business. Try to go once a week for lunch. Soups are great and home made, if you don't care the soup of the day go for the chili! First time here visiting for a sports event and staying next door. And, it's raining so came here for a small bite. Self seating in a pretty loud place due to football and hey, it's a pub. Duh! We were waited on pretty quickly after sitting down and had just the right amount of service. Hubby ordered the chicken wrap and I ordered the citrus salad. We didn't have to wait long for our dishes at all. Visually, the dishes are great. Look at the mound of freshly made French fries and the brightness of the salad. Hubby enjoyed his meal and took half of the wrap to-go. My salad was generous although the chicken was about dry. Cooking a thin chicken breast isn't easy. The citrus taste in the dressing really didn't stand out so my suggestion is to add some orange slices although the fresh strawberries were a nice touch. The lettuce was very fresh, candied nuts good and the goat cheese had a nice savory contrast. This place is open late and it really started to hop around 9pm with small groups coming in. The burgers look great and lots of varieties of beers to try. Maybe a flight tasting would be good versus the very full glasses. They are generous! Support this local business. read more

I visited this joint twice in one week it was so good. First visit I had their famous fish & chips. You get two pieces of cod fried crispy with panko crumbs and a ton of fries. Their fish was super crispy and tasted awesome. The second night I went and started with a cup of their chili then had their BBQ pulled pork sandwich with their homemade BBQ sauce and fries. Whoa, for being up north, they have got some slamming good southern tasting BBQ. And the sauce is over the top good. I loved their chili, just too full to have a second cup of it. read more

Some times you just do it right, and Lyons does it right. Had to have a long lingering lunch experience, post hotel checkout, airport time, so I walked myself down to Lyons. I was not disappointed. Has a great comfortable feel. Free popcorn pretty much nails it every time! Ordered fried pickles for an appetizer, and these were spears, not chips, which I prefer. So good! Had me a giant of a chicken Caesar salad, very good, and light on the tummy, just the way a man about to fly likes it. Got a GIANT side of fries, and man I was living the dream. Waitstaff was awesome! Our waitress was all smiles, kept the water glasses filled, and was very kind and helpful. The hostess, a lady who could be everyone's Mom was friendly and sweet as well. The place had lots of sports stuff around the place, as mentioned, making it very comfortable. And when in downtown Minneapolis, yikes there are places overcharging on food and beers , so I felt this place was pretty fair. So this is week 2 of my summer tour and I find myself in Minneapolis, MN. Found a local pub within walkable distance of the hotel. Q, whom has already been photographed (look thru pics) has been very attentive and very kind. He seems busy but has been very in tune to making sure his customers are happy! I ordered the French Dip (forgot to take pic... need to remember this) with a side Caesar. Interesting to note, they include cucumbers in their Caesar and do not include it in the menu. Unfortunately, I am allergic to them and found myself scratching my head asking wtf? Cucumbers in Caesar salads? No thank you. Sent it back but other than that little glitch, food is great! Music has been a mix and upbeat, so definitely could be an even livelier place than it is. I would def revisit and would insist on Q as my bartender!! read more

Showed up on a Thursday evening and found a table outside on the street. Inside they have a decent size bar and plenty of tables around it. It was pretty crowded but there was a private party on the other side. They have plenty of beer options. I had an IPA which was good. The menu has plenty of options. I had the fish and chips which were good but not great. The service was lacking in that it took forever to get another drink and the first drink took awhile to arrive. Had to ask for refills on water multiple times. Overall a nice place to hang out after work and have a beer. read more

We stopped in with a large party after making a reservation in advance on a Saturday night around 6pm. I was a little shocked and concerned with the fact that no one else was there. The space is huge and located downtown (connected to the Embassy hotel), I can't think of a better location. Our waitress was great and came to refill drinks without needing to be called over. I can only speak to what we ordered: -Chicken tenders, a little pricey considering they don't come with fries. They were really good and I would go back for more. All of the dips I tried were also great and while tenders are simple, they are easy to mess up. These were right on point. The fries were good, but some of the people in the part did have way soggier fries so there wasn't great consistency there. - Pulled pork sandwich- good size, and the bbq wasn't too spicy. Overall a great option. We ordered a couple of standard drinks that tasted as they should. I would return again and continue exploring some other options. I don't really know why it has a low-ish review but I had a great experience. read more

The Hangover Burger. Nothing else was on it besides a fried egg. Ordered it medium and it arrived well and overall pretty dry. I wouldn't order this even if I had a monster hangover. Find a White Castle. I'll try a different burger next time. There's plenty of choices on the menu. Bowl of Beer Cheese Soup. It was good. Hand cut fries were very good. Not greasy or soft. Oh, it felt great to be back, belly up to the bar, sipping a Lyon's lager! The Hubster and I stopped in after walking all over downtown on a sunny Saturday. The barkeep told us the day's special - pastrami on toasted swirl bread with pepper jack cheese, kraut and banana peppers - and that was all I needed. He said he was ordering that for his lunch, too! The salad substitute was a smart move; beautiful, loaded with toppings and just the right weight with that sammich. The Hubster ordered the chicken strips and marveled at how many he received (very generous portion). Our only regret? The popcorn isn't back yet... soon, I hope? read more
