There are parking ramps all around this place! We were able to park for $5 so not too bad! I recommend making a reservation, as this place does get quite busy! Before we even got there, we could smell this place, a GREAT sign! The hostess was lovely and guided us to our seats right away! The first thing I noticed was the decor is slightly dark and moody! Perfect for a romantic date! Plenty of candles flickering on each table! The kitchen is open, so it was fun to watch! Our only complaint is that the tables are fairly close together and a 2 person table is so small! It kept us from ordering more food, because there would be no place for it to go! Our server was nice. She originally forgot our drinks but admitted it and got them right away. We appreciated the honesty. Our water glasses were always full, we were given wet naps after our delicious wings and plates were taken promptly! Food: We each started with a drink. We dined here for our five year wedding anniversary and the food was amazing. Then we came back recently and THE BEEF LONG RIB that we usually order tasted dry and odd. We've ordered this many times and it's always been good so thought it was a safe choice but that was not the case recently. If we dine here again we would try something else. They also no longer sell the fried green tomatoes which is a huge bummer. The best part of the meal recently was actually their sausage. The service was decent and the waitress proactively split our bill based on our parties (we were on a double date). After a short flight to Minneapolis and a good walk around the city, we decided we needed to grab some dinner. On our hunt for a restaurant, we smelled some amazing bbq and started our mission to locate where the smell was emanating from--spoiler: it was The Butcher's Tale. Once we took a brief glance at the menu, we agreed this would be our dining location for our first night in Minneapolis, and boy was it the best decision we made! We were seated right away even though it was a Friday night and were greeted pretty quickly by our waitress, who was very helpful. She even told us about some off menu items, so when we found out the bone marrow was only like $27, we immediately put our order in. I kid you not, we both tried our best to refrain from melting into the booth because it was that delicious and melt in your mouth! Ugh, I think we both still daydream about that dish to this day lol. This place has always popped up a bunch of times for me in my food searches and last night was the night that it finally made sense. Me and my best friend were looking for a place to grab a quick, but yummy bite to eat before we went to Lumenescience at the Basilica.. a quick 9 minute walk from that area by the way.. and a lovely walk too! We arrived and greeted by a kind hostess, who asked us if we wanted a table or a booth, of course, we opted for a booth, amazing! Then, our waiter, Charlie arrived... a breath of fresh air in the world of serving, a conversational, but a perfect balance of not too conversational, gave good advice especially when my friend came to ordering a drink. He was amazing. He was also a bartender but did well balancing the two acts and made sure we were taken care of. I am gluten-free and he ensured everything was gluten-free and even had them serve gluten free crackers for the charcuterie. We ordered the charcuterie board, the sausage flight, broccoli, and carrots. Oh my goodness. Everything came out at the same time, in this case, that was totally fine since a lot of it was more bites. The sausages were incredible, they were cooked to perfection, with a nice little snap to them. There was one "the french onion" sausage, which had some fondue on it.. my goodness! There was another with cheddar cheese inside served on top of some divine purple cabbage.. give me a bowl of that please! Delicious, done to perfection... tons of flavor. The broccoli was also nice and crispy, not too oily, good flavor, a little spice as well. The carrots were sweeter, served with a savory creamy sauce that really brought it together, amazing as well. Okay... so this is not butcher and the boar. This place moved a minute down the road. Slightly different menus. We had reservations for 5pm on a Saturday, that's when they open. For a classier restaurant, we were unfortunately packed in pretty close to the other tables. I hateeee when places do this. It's rustic vibes but very noisy inside. We started with some tasty drinks. Didn't start with any starters because nothing really stood out. We got our entrees and a few shareable sides. Holy pork chop!!! This piece of meat is huge and presented beautifully. It looks amazing but man it really didn't taste that way. The three different toppings drowning the pork just didn't work for me. The goat cheese was over pungent and added an odd flavor. I was hoping for more sweetness from the blueberry chutney and sherry maple vinaigrette. The pork chop tasted burnt on the outside. It just wasn't it. Our friend's scallops were really tasty! The steaks were fairly decent but PS Steak is better. Two shareable sides were the perfect amount for four people. Wasn't super impressed with the lemony asparagus. We loved this place back when it was Butcher and the Boar, and when we came back to Minneapolis and saw that it had reopened as Butcher's Tale, my husband insisted that we go. We ordered the jalapeño and sausage sampler as our apps, and both were delicious. So good, in fact, that I forgot to take photos (oops - all gone!). For dinner I ordered the wagyu strip (4 oz) and my husband ordered the long rib, which is the house special. We also ordered the carrots, Brussels sprouts, and mashed potatoes. My husband got a Glenfiddich 12 and I ordered the True Grit cab. For dessert, we ordered the bananas foster French toast. There wasn't nothing that wasn't spectacular on its own, but the meat was the star of the show. The steak is some of the best I've had. I asked for an extra sear on my wagyu, and though it was thin at 4oz, it did not compromise the temperature of the steak (at medium rare). The Japanese wagyu comes with accompaniments but I felt that these were not needed (though they were delicious). The steak on its own was perfect. My husband loved his long rib and swore it was the best thing on the table, though I preferred my steak. The sides were all very good, though we were especially impressed with the sausage and jalapeños. The potato was creamy and well-balanced. It fit a need in the meal because the food tended towards the spicier or acidic side, so the humble potato with sour cream refreshed the palate. When we first came in, we couldn't be seated right away so we ordered a Bellini and Banana Bread Old Fashioned at the bar. In general, though, service was extremely attentive. Bar service was okay but the dinner service was top notch. There wasn't a moment there wasn't someone on top of things. My first glass of wine (recommended by our server) was not the greatest, so I had it sent back, and this was not an issue. My server asked me what I preferred, and brought 2 samples to try to match my taste, which wound up both being very good. Eventually, I ordered a cab as it paired well with my steak. I will leave this review with a quick note on general atmosphere. It is very similar to the original restaurant. You can see the fire going in the kitchen when meat is thrown on the grill, and there is a big menu in the dining room that reflects market pricing, so you know what you're paying for each cut. The room is darker but stylish and modern. The bar area is a little trendier but still cozy. There are people who dress up to come, but we saw just as many in sweaters, polo, and short sleeve shirts. Smart casual is recomm My husband believes this is the best restaurant in Minnesota. We haven't visited them all, though we have sat at the few top-rates restaurants in the city, being from Chicago. This is the place to come if you want decadent and delicious meat! Not the best place for a vegetarian. (lol). Hubby and I were celebrating our anniversary and chose the Butchers Tale to dine. The service from when we walked into the restaurant to when we sat down was great. We had Mich (short for Michelle) as our waitress. She was great and very friendly. We sat in the room closest to the kitchen. It was quite busy for a Saturday night so please make reservations when possible especially during the weekend. We ordered the Mexican street corn as an appetizer - that was great and note - does not come with anything like chips or crackers. I ordered the scallops which received rave reviews on yelp - they were great with the puree and bacon . Hubby had the ribeye and it was delish as well - luckily he shared with me. We also had sides of creamed spinach and Brussels sprouts. He couldn't get enough of the Brussels sprouts and the creamed spinach was my fav. Drinks - hubby had lots of fun IPA beers and I had their key lime margarita which was just okay...but had a cool black salt rim. It looks like many of the reviews for the Butcher's Tale have carried over from the previous incarnation at this location (Butcher and the Boar, which the rights to were purchased by another restaurant group and relocated to the North Loop), which doesn't seem fair to The Butcher's Tale, though I guess maybe it's not a big deal since many of the great things about it's predecessor remain selling points for the current concept. Butcher's Tale seems to be trying to distance itself by becoming more of a smokehouse concept, but at the end of the day, they still have a great beer garden, good steaks, a delicious long rib and sausages. The smoked wings are some of my favorites in the Cities and the combo meals (burger/brat/chicken sandwich, a beer and a bump) are made for my palate. Butcher's Tale, especially the year-round beer garden, will remain a standby whenever going out in this part of downtown. read more

What a lovely ambiance, staff, and menu! My friend and I came here before a concert and we had a very enjoyable experience. Our server was great and helped us navigate the menu. We were planning to get a few cocktails and share some appetizers and she was able to bring them out progressively instead of overwhelming us with everything all at once. This really made the experience better since we had plenty of time to kill. We started with the house wedge salad 10/10, but I'm a sucker for a wedge! We then had the tuna tartare 5/10- wouldn't get this again. The tuna was cut too big for my preference and I didn't think it had enough flavor. Next we had the smoked sausage 10/10 and the broccolini 8/10! My only complaint would be that the food and drinks were a bit expensive and I wish they would have offered happy hour deals since we were there on a Monday. We tried the calamari, which were hot and crispy, great, but probably our least favorite dish of the night. We also tried both the fresh and grilled oysters. Both were excellent and very fresh, however, they were a little small, glad they were happy hour price. We loved the chicken wings; the rum chili bbq sauce was perfectly tangy and sweet with high quality and super hot chicken. We decided to try the truffle fries, also. We were so glad we tried them, they were absolutely delicious. So hot and fresh, and the aioli was perfect. It was also a huge portion size, perfect for sharing! I think my favorite thing about this spot was that the staff all seemed to love what they were doing and created such a welcome atmosphere. Our favorite pre-theater dinner spot. We get there at 5:00 and sit at the bar. This last time, it was our anniversary, and we wanted a nice bottle of wine to complement our wonderful meal. I narrowed it down by price and grape for the bartender and then asked her to recommend it. Uniquely, she returned with two tasting glasses of wine they offer by the glass. She asked my wife and me which one we preferred. We both, fortunately, chose the same one. The bartender then came back with a bottle. Hadn't been here since they reopened as the butchers tale. Headed over there in a Sunday for dinner. The place looks exactly like it did when it was butcher and the boar. Dark wood and a mix between casual and upscale steakhouse. The server was very attentive and happy to chat and help with questions. We didn't have many questions because they had what I went there for on the menu. We asked for recommendations on the cocktails and both the cocktails were great. I ordered the long rib which is my favorite and it didn't disappoint. My wife ordered center cut New York which was cooked perfectly and tasty with the peppercorn sauce. Ordered cornbread as a side and it was tasty. The first one wasn't very hot and the server switched it out right away and that was better. Over the years we've sampled almost everything on the main course menu. -Beef long rib is delicious with a very deep very molassesey sauce. It's huge. We had a larger party and were celebrating a team event so we decided to make it a good one! I think we ordered almost one of each appetizer! The sausage plate is amazing! I gave this place a 4 star rating because my steak was ordered medium plus, (barely pink) and I got a rare steak. We took an Uber so I can't speak on parking but the restaurant is located downtown so I imagine parking may be a challenge. The restaurant was very busy on a Monday evening. I was glad we had reservations. Our server was great as was all of the food and drinks. We each started with a banana bread old fashioned. For an app we had the smoked jalapeños. I wasn't sure how peanut butter would pair with a jalapeño but they were delicious. We each had the filet and my husband added blue cheese for his accompaniment and I added the tabasco molasses. The steak would've been fine without the molasses, I did try my husband's steak and I liked the blue cheese better. We shared the asparagus and truffle Mac for sides. I highly recommend both. For dessert we shared the vanilla cheesecake. I loved the mascarpone whipped cream. We also each had a carajillo. We were so excited to see carajillos on the menu because we love them and the only place we consistently see them on menus is in Mexico. The food is pricey but worth it. We know that the Beer Garden is awesome, especially now since it's re-opened after the renovation. I didn't know it could be better, but it is. There's still a lot of space for you, your besties, your pups; bring the whole gang! I've enjoy the 'Triple B' (beer, bump and burger/brat/or bird) since they opened and I still recommend it. It's far and away the best deal you'll find anywhere and you won't be disappointed. The burger has been stepped up and is now a waygu butter burger with cheese and bacon. There's a guaranteed set of bright eyes and a shiny coat right there! But - and I couldn't believe it myself - you have to move on and introduce some variety in your life. Why? Because there's more to love on that deceptively short menu. I told myself that I was going to try the pastrami sandwich. I mean, if you call your joint the Butcher's Tale, you better be at the top of your meat game, right? I'm hear to tell you that the pastrami sandwich was quite possibly the best thing you'll ever eat outside of a New York deli. Thick slabs of seasoned beef, pepper-y and savory in the best way possible, with cheese and kraut on toasted marble bread. And, if you're like me and upgrade from chips to fries, you had better be among friends because you will have too much food to work on. Even the ketchup is amazing and I don't like ketchup! The spicy note at the end of that sweet fry dip is the perfect hop in the shorts. We ended up bringing home almost half the sandwich (I nearly didn't stop myself) and a lot of the fries. Everything warmed up well the next day, which made me happy with my choice all over again. Which leaves me with a serious problem; what will I order next time? No matter what it is, I know I'll love it but the bar is set pretty high after that pastrami sandwich. That's OK. It's good to have goals! read more
