Came here for "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child." This is our go-to spot when we have a show at the Orpheum. Their smoked wings are delicious. We tried their special wings, which "Minnesota Not-So-Nice is for sure spicy. Their soy was flavorful. Upon arrival, we sat down at a table. A staff attended to us by bringing menus and coasters within 5 minutes. Fast service, our wait staff checked on us a few times. Overall good. read more

I really want to love this place, I really do, but I have attended a few times before a show at the Orpheum and have been left stressed and disappointed. Even giving ourselves over a hour to be here, we have found ourselves rushing to pay the bill due to the service. I am not sure where the staffing issues are, since it doesn't happen elsewhere. Once you find a seat, it has taken at least 15 minutes to get service, then you wait another 15 minutes to get the drinks. If you are smart enough to order a app when you order your drink, you will get that about 20 mins after you get your drink. There is no chance on getting more than one drink, paying and getting out of there in a hour. If it is hot, the upstairs gets very toasty, it doesnt appear that they have air conditioning that cools upstairs. read more

Cool spot to stop for a drink and a snack! The bar spelled their name exactly as my sister does, so we had to go and of course get a mug. Stopped here for a drink before seeing a play next door. The place was pretty packed as it's one of the closest bars/restaurants to the Orpheum. I could over hear a lot of people saying they were going to the play and it started to clear out close to 7pm when the doors were opening. They have 2 levels from what I can see for seating. There was no host or anything so we just grabbed a table from another party leaving. After a few minutes a waitress came and cleared the table and gave us menus. We only ordered drinks. I got a Tim Collin's and my mom got one of the drinks from the seasonal specials. Drinks were okay. The waitress did let us know when she gave us menus that there's about a 30-35 min wait for food, but didn't matter since we knew we just had time for drinks. My mom did say she wanted to go back to check out the food so maybe next time. read more

This was my second time at Mackenzie Pub and I finally had a chance to try the wings, as they were out the last time. I got the jerk dry rub, very good and decent portions. My friends got wings and tacos as well and it seemed the verdict was that the food was overall pretty good. Because it is downtown, you are going to have downtown prices so I didn't think the cost was crazy expensive but still on the higher end. We sat outside since it was so nice out and we were on our way to a concert. They have a surprisingly large back deck with seating in the sun or in the shade. Our service was a little slow, as it was last time, and they forgot a few things but it was hard to flag them down. I have the feeling that the servers sometimes have sections both inside and outside which makes it difficult for the customer to get assistance if needed. read more

We had: -their most popular burger, suggested by server, it was tiny and tasted something like cafeteria In kindergarten, very disappointing -hod dog with coleslaw, it was also a mini hot dog, I don't even know where they get the buns so small, just like the burger, it was the size of kindergarten's lunch, it says 'comes with the side' , we picked coleslaw- it comes in the little plastic sauce container, so small, it should be just called the topping - famous eggs- not good at all, the idea sounds great, but the sausage used is the cheapest breakfast sausage, tastes like something you'd get for free breakfast at the cheep hotel, and fried in old oil, surprising part was the texture of the egg itself, it was pretty good considering everything - fried cheese curds, $11, comes in the tiniest rectangular paper container, about 2x3 inches, super small portion of that, it look like a sample or something, we looked a little confused'that's it?', and also tasted like it was fried in old canola oil I think the place is only good if you're drunk or high, it's late at night, and everything else is closed ‍ We were visiting Minneapolis for the first time, and had so much good food around in few days- this one was so disappointing compared to to everything else. My wife and I walked to the Mackenzie Pub from our hotel in search of scotch eggs and we were not disappointed! The scotch eggs were deliciously runny and exactly what my wife loves. We also ordered a giant pretzel, which came with an unexpectedly tasty queso blanco style sauce and a chicken bacon ranch salad, which was also good. We accidentally ordered at the bar despite sitting at a table and the staff were great about switching things around for us. There was a kids show happening nearby and there was a Brown's game on, so it was a bit loud, but full of fun and energy. The manager or someone in charge stopped by the table to ensure that we could hear the game at the appropriate volume. The Mackenzie Pub is like something out of a fever dream. It's located on a busy street next to the theaters and is as divey as dives come. They let me sit on the patio with my dog which was cool (but had to walk him through the inside bar to get to the back patio). The server gave off cool yet odd vibes. No warmth, just "what are you drinking? you want food?" speak. Took a while to get the table cleaning and for food and drinks to arrive even though it was rather slow. Everyone on the patio smoked which was a bummer, wasn't really a non-smoking section. I was the odd man out. Stoked they had a couple sour beers on the menu which are hard to find. I was torn what food to get and decided I couldn't go wrong with wings, but was kinda wrong. The Carolina BBQ (mustard + BBQ) was overly mustardy and overly sauced as well. Not a whole lot of meat to be found on the 6 wings; certainly left hungry. Also took a long time to cash out and escape the smoky deck. If the waitresses spent less time bitching about bad customers and more time taking care of the good ones, it would be better for everyone. Aside from the refreshing peach sour beer on the warm day, felt like I was in purgatory for an hour plus and had to consume crummy food before leaving smelling like stale cigarettes. It was a busy Friday night downtown Minneapolis, we were there for the Minnesota Timberwolves block party and the Michael Jackson show at the Orpheum. Our server Alex was great even though he was super swamped that did not stop him from acknowledging every new person that sat at the bar and making sure that we got what we needed. For having a small kitchen they turn out some hits for sure. The fries have this amazingly unique taste I'm not sure if it's the oil they use but they are always a hit. The turkey wrap was seasoned so perfectly it's probably one of the best raps that I've had in a long time. We also had the wonton tacos for an appetizer and they were the perfect serving size and hit the spot in fact they were so good we didn't even have a chance to snap a pic of them when we're on this end of downtown Minneapolis we always try to stop in because it has a nice hometown feel to it You can get good food great drinks and even better service!! read more

Used to come to Mackenzie a few times a year when in town for work but hadn't been for 5 years. Maybe it was because I was there on Sunday night or maybe because I may have arrived just after a rush ahead of a show but it wasn't a great experience. Gouda burger was awful. Burned, dry, thin burger with no flavor, cheese melted to an almost liquid state, and bun partially burned. Side of tots contained bits of other fried food. I ate less than half and asked for a menu to order something else. Bartender just chucked 3/4 of burger and tots and handed me the menu. Btw not crowded at all. She didn't ask about how the food was either as I was eating or when she picked it up. As I was dining on my company's dime and it was getting too late to go somewhere else I decided try again to see if maybe I just made a bad choice. Tried to order their "specialty" which is a scotch egg but after checking with the kitchen the bartender relayed that they were unavailable. Asked for the bartenders recommendation she said she'd go with cheese curds which were pretty average but edible. I stopped into Mackenzie's Pub last week. The place was nice and warm while it flurried outside. It's a classic pub feel with stained glass and long bar. There is a second level too, but we didn't go up there. The bar and many tables were in lively use.Tables line the wall across from the bar. That's where we were. The staff was friendly. Apparently it's usually a "Brown's bar". My friend and I viewed the big Vikings game - you know the one with the greatest come-back in NFL history. We shared a tasty loaded tater tot and enjoyed the apple pie cider. It's a nice place with a festive atmosphere. Give it a try- you are likely to have a good time. read more

Ah yes, MacKenzie Pub - this little gem at the beginning of Hennepin. I rolled in about 10pm ish on a Friday night - to my surprise it was pretty dead (I was looking to catch the end of the Wild game). The place wasn't grimly lit - which was pleasant surprise. The kitchen was still open and the bartender recommended some "popular choices". I ended up going with the Korean tacos. Which proved to be good choice and I would have again. My favorite part was the salsa and the chef, a short dude and Packers fan (he sported a hat), who seemed to take great pride in what he does (cook). Overall it was a 4.5 star experience for me - the place was clean, the tacos were yummy, I was treated nicely, they seem to have a variety on tap - and a bartender who was knowledgeable on them. I would definitely visit if I was in the area and hungry for some fresh quick eats - but not wild about it and wouldn't plan a night out there given the choice. read more

We just went here, because it was walking distance from our hotel. We were pleasantly surprised. The bartender was great. I had a fantastic beer. And the food was incredibly good. My wife had their version of the big Mac which she loved. And I had a Cuban sandwich which was equally as good, one of the best Cubans I've had. A fun space. Great food. Even the stuff I thought was basic fare was great. Chicken tenders were great! I also had the Cuban tacos which were phenomenal. I can't recommend them more!!! Spicy and delicious. We liked the place so much, we ordered takeout again later and had the el jefe pizza. Wonderful. Service was phenomenal. The pretzel was clearly from frozen, but good flavor.
