My husband and I stopped into The Tavern Grill in Blaine on a whim one Sunday afternoon. We've noticed it countless times on our way to Hajime next door, so we figured it was finally time to check it out. The restaurant was understaffed - the bartender was not only running the bar but also serving the entire dining area. We sat at the bar and waited about 10 minutes before being greeted. We also overheard a nearby table voice frustration about the slow service. We're pretty patient, so it wasn't the end of the world, but it was noticeably slow. That said, once we were helped, our server was friendly and attentive. I ordered a Spicy Margarita and my husband went with an Old Fashioned. My margarita was on the weaker side; not bad, just forgettable. My husband enjoyed his Old Fashioned. For food, we tried the Bang Bang Shrimp, Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps, and the Crab-Stuffed Portabella. The standout was definitely the Bang Bang Shrimp; we both really liked it. The lettuce wraps and stuffed mushroom were fine, just not dishes we'd return specifically for. The overall vibe was calm and low-key, and the staff was kind despite being stretched thin. Absolutely some of the worst overpriced food I have ever had!!! The walleye was $28 and was like rubber, hard on the edges and cold! The chicken wild rice soup has no flavor and the artichoke dip is melted cheese dripping in butter! The cocktail had very little alcohol but plenty of juice! The service was not good at all! Met my brother here tonight for dinner. It took a long while and twice another wait person coming over to tell us our server would be with us after he took care of something. We weren't in a rush so. We did finally get our drinks and order. I had the chicken wrap with sweet potato's. My husband got the brisket sandwich. I really didn't care for mine didn't like what ever sauce they had on it. Sweet potatoes were ok. My husband said the brisket sandwich was fine. We finally put our dirty dishes on the table next to us which was full of dirty dishes the whole time we were in the restaurant. Fruit Fly Frenzy! This is one of our go to restaurants, and as always, the service was fabulous. It was shift change, which made it a little bit slower than usual, but our server was absolutely amazing. The food was just OK today. Disappointed in the nachos. The chicken appeared to be very dry and just boiled with very little flavor. The sliders were amazing. Always my favorite and always a go to. Definitely missed the mark today on cleanliness, my wine glass looked like it had soap baked onto the stem and it was so cloudy I even lifted it up to make sure it was actually not a clouded glass. We came in as a walk-in basketball team of 25 people and they handled our large group like pros. Food and drinks ranged from just okay to tasty, but slightly overpriced compared to competitors in my humble opinion. Salads and fruits were fresh. I would ask my teen kids to order a meal instead of the brunch buffet next time because they were charged as adults and would have gotten much more food for a lower price than their buffet. Very disappointing! Ate here on a Tuesday night 6:15, not too busy. Haven't eaten here in maybe 6 years, used to be a very nice place with good food, it has gone way down hill, went to the restroom, wish I had my phone with me, looked terrible nothing has been put into keeping it nice, very bad restrooms, my husband said the same about his, they are not putting any money back into the place. I ordered Turkey club melt, it was actually pretty good but my waffle fries were not even luke warm and I had them 1/2 eaten by the time my ordered seasoned sour cream came out. My husband ordered a beer and it arrived just a few minutes before the food, she said the bartender got busy........too busy to pour a tap beer. There actually were some fruit flies hovering at our table the entire meal, killed a few but more came, yuck! My husband had the brisket sandwich $17.00 and hardly any meat in it, See photo. and the meat that was in it must have got cooled down quite fast from the cole slaw as it was not at all warm. Stupid me decided to get dessert (which I rarely do) and got the crem bru le, which was the thinnest layer I have ever seen and I have never had it cold, just got home from a cruise that had the best so I don't know what I was thinking ordering it when our entire dining experience was not good, I finally asked for more water when the dessert came. Went to The Tavern Grill during a standard dinner time. There was a 10 minute wait for a table, so we opted for the bar. Our server/bartender was a multitasking queen. We ordered the Buffalo salad and the Thai salad (not the actual names, but the general idea of them). They were both very large and had more protein on them than originally expected. We couldn't finish them. Not wanting to make lunch tomorrow we each ordered a pizza to go (one Buffalo and one BBQ). The taste test of the Buffalo pizza was the right amount of Buffalo flavor. They even provide sauce on the side in case you want to add more. We sat at the bar for over two hours just chatting and never felt pressured to leave. Between that am being able to split the bill and pay via phone (not the toast app) were top tier. A go to staple in the Blaine area, I'll certainly be back. read more

As soon as I sat down I was greeted and asked if I'd like a menu. She came back shortly to take my drink order and asked if I was ready for food. I ordered a whiskey drink from their specialty cocktail menu. It was just ok. Nothing more or less than what I was expecting. For an app I settled on the Tavern Style Sliders. You get 4 for $9.99 which I felt was a pretty solid deal. They were terrible. Like, don't order these. The patties were unseasoned and dry. Stale buns. Very underwhelming. Two pizzas came out while I was there and they both looked excellent. Leaving me to believe pizzas are the way to go. Watch your receipt. I ate dinner there on 7/25, at 8:25 PM. My food and beverage bill was 31.03. I gave my server Kanesha my credit card to ring this up. When she brought back the receipt for me to sign it was entered wrong as $44.60 (which also was the amount I tipped off of). It was my fault for not checking this receipt, and I first caught this while doing my expense report. I hope this is an isolated incident but getting a 50% extra unexplained charge is NOT good customer service or attention to detail. Since my company won't reimburse this will come out of my pocket. I would love to really like this place, but because of last night I cannot do it. You need to figure things out and get it right. We went to the restaurant about 8 p.m., and it was really not that busy. We were seated promptly and kept on being told our server would be "right there." After waiting almost 20 minutes, we ordered our food and waited a solid 45 minutes for the food to come out. My entree was out first, and I was told my wife's was "right behind." After patiently waiting another 5 minutes or so, my wife's entree came out--and it was not right. It is really rude to eat in front of someone, but by this point, my wife told me to go ahead and eat. The sandwich was okay - likely because it had been sitting in the kitchen for a while, and by then, I was really hungry. I really like the menu, but this location is hit/miss. It appeared that the "hockey families" were the priority, and we were just there to pay for an expensive meal and enjoy everyone else's great service and an even better time. Excellent service today from our server, Stacy. I was happy that I tried the Tavern Fish Sandwich: it was a nice piece of fish & perfectly prepared with a good bun! The Thai Salad delighted my friend that ordered it-the photo doesn't do it justice-it was so plentiful that she could only eat half on it! Excellent ambiance for lunch indoors! Stopped in for the Sunday brunch, which we had enjoyed for years. They switched the brunch buffet and the change is NOt positive. The option are severely limited now and it appears they made the choices based on what the cheapest thing to serve is. It doesn't stop there, the service was also very disappointing. The initial server was very slow to come and take our drink order. The server who brought us the cinnamon rolls offered to have some scrambled eggs made since we are all allergic to a lot of stuff they have in the only egg dish on their buffet of course, those eggs never showed up. Went up for a second round of the hashbrowns. The only good food they still have on the buffet and of course they were empty. Many plates were empty just overall not a great experience. I have no problem spending $60 for two brunch buffets as long as there is good food available when you try to charge $30 for a brunch buffet and serve only the cheapest foods available you have officially come off my list of places I am willing to eat. read more

I have come to The Tavern a couple times over the last 5 to 6 years, and it has always been fine. Have never really had an complaints. This last time I was here was a little different. Was very disappointed. We were able to get a table pretty fast around 8pm, although it felt sticky. There was also a couple flies around that should have been a sign...the server we had was nice, no complaints about him. We got out order in for some cheese curds and our entrees. It took an hour for our food to come out....and the cheese curds came after our entrees. They said they are short staffed in the kitchen but this was pretty bad. The food was meh. Chicken was dry, fish and chips were soggy, but my mom said her burger was good! Overall though, was kinda disappointed, I am not sure I will be coming back anytime soon. read more

The Tavern Grill very pleasantly surprised me with their food. My boss took the whole team out here for lunch a few weeks back and I was a little skeptical of how the food would be based on other reviews I had seen and just my general opinion of taverns, but I was pleasantly surprised. Their menu is quite large and features some rather poorly thought out dishes such as fish tacos that include pieces of mandarin orange in them which my coworker ordered and said did not work together. However, I veered away from the more peculiar sounding dishes and ordered a fish sandwich with waffle fries. The piece of fish was HUGE, I mean the picture does not do justice, but it was basically a full fillet of haddock breaded and fried served on"focaccia" bread with some of the usual toppings. The fish was delicious although the bread was very strange. It was way too dense to be focaccia and a little too much for the sandwich so I just ate a lot of the fillet with a fork. That being said, the fillet was incredible. The waffle fries were alright, definitely the type where all they have to do is fry them and they're ready to go, really nothing special there. I do really recommend the fish though, it was great! I probably wouldn't come back here on my own but wouldn't be upset about coming back either. read more

They seemed completely oblivious at times with only a few parties in the restaurant and took forever to come take food and drink orders. Do the waitress have access to water and pop or does the bartender have to poor it? Something is wrong with the process. The special was a juicy Lucy and it was served red in the middle with nothing stuffed inside it. The waitress had to many tables for her ability. We frequent Tavern for Brunch and been happy with that. It is a beautiful restaurant and my hope is that the 2 managers that were on duty can figure out what is wrong. read more

We've loved the Tavern for YEARS! Their Sunday Brunch has always been our favorite. Went this morning and the brunch is completely changed. Increased price to $26/person and the options now are terrible! Their biscuits and gravy were the best- got rid of them. No more pastries, build your own omelet, or pancakes. Prime rib was overcooked and dry. Caramel rolls are bigger, but were very dried out. New foods included soggy spaghetti and dry chicken. The yogurt parfaits were a cute touch, but no replacement for the items lost. The hash browns, fresh fruit, and French toast were really all we ate. No longer worth the money. read more
