After spending $350 with tip, I have the right to be picky and offer an honest review of value. A group of 6 looked to find a nice steak to celebrate birthdays. Booked at Prime as most other choices were already full and we thought we'd give them a try. Arrived to find out they were backed up and our reservation may be at risk. Bar tender told us "people are just staying longer than we expect". We discovered why later. The place is small. The bar was staffed by three bartenders and they were still slow to take orders and deliver drinks. The bourbon and scotch list was small and a very mundane selection. Not a steak house level of options. If I'm going to spend $90 for a steak I expect casual, comfortable and not squeezed in tight with others. Seemed more mid-level than a high level steak house. We were seated and our drink order was taken and delivered. Then nothing. Finally came to take our order. Maybe 20 minutes into our evening. Then another very long wait until our appetizers finally came. And a longer wait for the meals themselves. There are no toppings for the steaks (I.e. crumbled blue cheese). Instead they bring out small metal cups of sauces. Not what I would expect. The tomahawk looked great. The asparagus was a very small order for the price and almost cold by the time it got to us. We finally wrapped the night after 3 hours. And I now see why reservations were being pushed. The delays were painful. Operationally they are having issues. This is NOT on the level of a Pittsburg Blue; which I would accept but their prices are even higher than Blue. The steaks were nice. But nothing any better than other options with better service. The 20% tip was already added to our bill. Our waitress was wonderful but this didn't warrant 20%. So we tried something new. Not a disaster, but we will not be going back when there are so many other better steakhouse options not that far away. read more

This restaurant was beautiful and surprisingly quiet for a Sunday night. I was celebrating my birthday with my husband and it definitely was a nice, quiet, romantic dinner. Although, we did have to walk through a casual pizza restaurant before getting settled in Prime. Our server was very informative, taking the time to explain their aged meats and the different selections available. The food was amazing. The server even recommended my first red wine -- a Cabernet Sauvignon -- to pair with my steak. The meal arrived quickly, was served hot, and was seasoned to perfection. Let me start off with I'm not a big steak guy and didnt even get any. I thought the appetizers looked really good so I tried them out. Interesting location for a upscale restaurant. Had a huge parking lot but I also think that's because there's a pizza spot in the main floor. I made reservations, it was pretty busy so I'd recommend it. Beautiful restaurant and service was excellent. I will say the sun was still out and the windows are huge, so depending on where you sit, that could be a bad experience as the sun was all in my face. I tried multiple appetizers and I enjoyed all of them. It was definitely spendy so depending on your budget, this isn't a place I'd eat at often, maybe special occasions. read more

My wife and I had a very nice anniversary dinner at Prime. It was nice to find something a bit upscale near where we live instead of having to drive 45 minutes. First, when you walk in, note that Prime is upstairs. The first level is a casual pizza pub. The space is modern but comfortable. Service was incredibly good. They have a nice list of cocktails and we enjoyed our Hemingway Daquiri and Vieux Carre cocktails. It's hard to find the latter in the Twin Cities, especially one well made. We started with the Bread, which is $10. It was good bread, and the accompanying Honey Butter was very good, but I still get really annoyed by this trend of having to pay for bread. We followed that up with the Bone Marrow appetizer. It was very good, and came with nice crispy Ciabatta toasts and an Apricot Jam that didn't have much Apricot flavor but the citric acidity was good for cutting the delicious greasiness of the marrow. My wife had the Scallops appetizer as an entree. With 5 decent sized scallops, it was perfect and she really liked them. She also ordered the Shrimp Scampi side dish ($23), which was the only miss of the night. The Shrimp were cooked perfectly, but were under-seasoned and there was no garlic flavor at all. Despite all the reviews on here implying that Prime has trouble getting meat temperatures right, I ordered the Petite Filet Mignon. It came at a perfect Medium Rare as ordered. It was also nicely seasoned and paired well with the very good Bleu Cheese Fondue add-on ($5). For dessert, we opted for the Whiskey Bread Pudding, even though they offered us a free Molten Lava Cake for our anniversary (the gave us a glass of sparkling wine to share instead). The Bread Pudding was good, but was a little dense and didn't really have any Whiskey notes. All in all, we had a very good meal and would definitely return. read more

After reading other reviews, I went into Prime on Monday night with lowered expectations. I guess that's the way to do it because it way exceeded my expectations and we were very pleased with the food, the drinks, the service, the ambiance, everything that we are already planning to go back. The menu has so many great sounding items that we wanted to try them all. What we enjoyed - Started off with drinks of the Signature Old Fashioned and The Austin Connection. The old fashioned came with a fun Prime stamped craft ice cube. We enjoyed the oysters and crab cakes for appetizers. The minuet was delicious with the oysters and the tarragon aioli was flavorful with the crab cakes. The wedge salad was delicious with the blue cheese dressing and bacon nicely showing up. Seeing the dry age steaks when we entered, we simply had to try the dry aged ribeye and to make it a bit of surf and turf action, we got the shrimp and lobster gnocchi. The dry aged ribeye rib was perfectly cooked to our requested medium rare minus level. I absolutely loved the shrimp and lobster gnocchi - there was ample amount of shrimp and lobster in the dish and the sauce was on point - wonderful. The loaded hash browns were our side dish and they were flavorful with an excellent crisp and an ample quantity. We rounded out the meal with the bread pudding dessert. The sauce and chutney was tasty, but the bread pudding pieces were a little dense and dry for my tastes. That is the one item that I will get differently the next time. read more

Ambiance: The atmosphere was modern but only moderately impressive--a slight step above an Applebee's, though not by much. It looked fine, but nothing about the space elevated it to the level the pricing suggests. Service: Service was fair at best. In my view, a restaurant at this price point should focus on delivering food that's simply better than what I can make at home, not narrating the process. Attention from the staff was also lacking for a restaurant positioning itself in this tier. Food: The steak was advertised as Prime, but it was clearly Choice--nowhere near the quality of the prime cuts I buy from Costco and cook myself. The texture was chewy and tough, and the cut wasn't properly trimmed, which tells me the chef's skill level doesn't match the menu prices. For what they charged, the execution fell far short. Overall: The restaurant is overpriced for what it delivers. The ambiance slightly edges out a casual chain, but the food quality is on the same level--and sometimes worse. Paying $80 for a mediocre steak that I could easily find for $20-$30 at numerous local chains makes this an easy decision: not worth it, and I won't be returning. read more

Can we agree that if I'm charged 158 bucks for 16 ounces of unembellished beef tenderloin, 5 small dry scallops, and one 4 ounce coffee, I have the right to be picky? Yes? I'll keep it simple. I'm not impressed. Some creds for y'all haters... 1) My elderly mother (it was her 83rd birthday) and I took the small freight elevator to the 2nd floor steak house. That was interesting. We got a personal tour to the back corner of the pizza joint (by the one arcade game) then our beautiful escort "unlocked" the elevator and rode up with us. She was very friendly and wonderful...but not white glove service. 2) Apparently, no one expected us as we popped out of the elevator in the back corner, we wandered around like lost cattle, and we made our way to the front host stand. We waited for what seemed like forever and got mean mugged by some shady folks at the bar. 3) Strange, strange vibes from the bar, BTW. That's the first thing in your face too. There were half a dozen older dudes lurking at the end of the bar. Owners? Local slackers? They stared, furtive glances back & worth, quiet whispers...they looked like geriatric mafioso's, gossiping about the squares coming in to eat. I looked for Tony Soprano but he must have been in the back office. 4) It took forever for our server. First, he was gonna find "her"...then he checked back, still looking for "her"...then, I guess it was just "him", not the missing "her" anymore. Okay, dude, you could have just taken our order the first time, not the fourth trip to our table. I'm just sayin'. 5) He brought coffee, he forgot the cream. The coffee was excellent. 6) Scallops were tiny and dry. The corn cream, sauce, brulee, gravy, slimy whatever was excellent. 7) Two tenderloins, one over-cooked, one under-cooked. The flavor was great, BTW. 8) My mom opened her mouth; she mentioned & rubbed-in the missing cream faux pas. The server apologized and skipped back to our table with 2 tacky gas station style plastic creamers. Really? Now things were getting a little silly. 9) Our server had some curious vibes too. He reminded me of an old biker friend of mine from the 1980s named "Gator". It's like I was back in time, listening to Gator...but he was goofing around, pretending to be a sophisticated English butler by adding extra syllables to every other word. Ya know what I mean? Hey, I love ya, dude. And I'm gonna drop a big tip. But ya gotta keep it real. Using adjectives and verbs with 5 or 6 syllables is just funny. 10) All these things seem so easily fixable but there are so so so so many of them! This has to be management, right? I won't be back. We'll start with the good...Prime has a nice vibe. From flooring to lighting, it's modern and upscale. Service was attentive. Cocktails and wine were excellent! Now...the not good. The food was nowhere near what it needs to be. Lobster gnocchi pasta was drowning in a tomato sauce that made everything one note. Asparagus and bearnaise were cold. I had the steak bite special which was fine but this restaurant isn't aiming for "fine" with the prices being charged. While I mentioned the service was attentive, it was at completely inappropriate times. He'd arrive and ask questions while we were in conversation. My appetizer plate was cleared before I was finished. Then, another plate was dirty on our table through the entire meal. Also, the same food runner tried to deliver food to our table three different times (after already having delivered our correct order). Last, back to the ambiance. The tables are too close for any romantic meal, U-shaped booths create awkward moments, and our table looked straight into the elevator they use to deliver food. We so desperately want to have a fine dining option in Blaine. At the moment, this isn't it. We'll stop by in a couple of months to see if they've adapted. Until then, we'll continue to go to Baldamar for a fine dining experience worth the price. read more

We went to Prime to celebrate my husband's birthday and had a wonderful experience. Our server was Luke and he was charismatic, humorous, and enthusiastic. The restaurant's ambience was nice. It was a bit bright lighting wise that they did not need to have the table lamps. A nice candle on the table would have paired well with the amount of light the restaurant offered. The bright lamp on the table would be a nice touch if they dimmed the restaurant to create more of a romantic/moodier atmosphere. The food was great and cooked to perfect. The crab cakes were meaty. The tomahawk was tender and juicy. The edges were crisp, which is what I prefer. It was just a little saltier than I'd like. If they lessened the amount of salt it would have been 10/10. We opted for the loaded hash browns and they did not disappoint. Since it was my husband's birthday, they offered us a complimentary dessert or choice of desert drink. I did like that they gave an option. We chose the crème brûlée and it was delicious. The portions are large and every dish is shareable. The prices are not terribly expensive for the amount of food you get. All steaks are age dried between 28-60 days depending on the cut (a little lesson from our server) and they will soon serve Kobe beef in the near future. Overall 9/10. We went here for my bday dinner with my boyfriend and his mom and dad. Service- our server was great, but the host and bartender had terrible attitudes. Not one smile and rude comments from bartender about how to make the drink we ordered. We sat for 15 min before a server showed up at our table. Food- the scallop appetizer was the best thing on the menu. The special steak ribeye we got was very grizzly. Not impressed. I had the sea bass and was not a fan. Atmosphere- building was very nice but you have to walk thru the sports pizza pub first to get into the steakhouse. Very strange shared environment for a steak house. Call ahead and verify things like happy hour at prime. The website says 2-4 Fridays but they arbitrarily decide to not do it for no reason. PS the "sound system" in the pizza bar is worse than the AM radio in a late 80s geo metro... We will try again but they really need to polish up their customer service. Update, the sound system down stairs sounds like a vintage Close and Play. Also the help downstairs knows nothing about the goings on upstairs, again customer service could use a tweaking. read more

We had reserved the Godfather Room. It was so cold. They had a space heater going which read 62 degrees. We all ate with our jackets on. The food was great but spendy that's for sure. We had crappy service as well. I would not suggest this Steakhouse. They should stick to the Pizza Pub. Definitely a weird set up. Pizza on the 1st level and a Prestige Steakhouse on the 2nd. Not recommended. Also, never heard of not serving baked potato's but instead hashbrowns with my expensive steak. read more

Four of us went for an early four pm dinner. Our waitress was very attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. We took the elevator due to a recent knee surgery, which is not really for the general public and took a few extra minutes. We were seated in a very comfortable U shaped booth, and the ambiance was very nice. She made some great recommendations, and we were not disappointed in anything. We were happy with the old fashioned cocktails, and the $65 bottle of wine which was recommended. Had the mussels and bone marrow for appetizers. Was our first time having bone marrow, and it was quite interesting. Not sure I'll do it again, but glad we tried it. For entrees we split a $150 tomahawk steak, the pork chop and the shrimp and lobster gnocchi. All were very well prepared and top quality. Our sides were the Prime hash browns and the Brussel sprouts, both of which were excellent. We split the wedge salad, and the blue cheese dressing was excellent. They provided a free dessert for our birthday friend which was a nice ending to a great meal. After we left and were leaving the parking lot, they called and said we'd left our take home bag. Very nice of them, especially since it was a busy Friday night. Be prepared to pay a little more than your standard Blaine restaurant, but at least they list prices on their website. When we arrived, we were a bit confused at first due to no signage telling us that the restaurant was on the second floor and the pizza place (owned by the same restaurant) was on the first floor. We were seated right away and our waitress was very attentive throughout the visit, refilling our drinks, making sure we were fine. The room was fairly quiet with modern light designs throughout the floor. We decided to order the waygu sliders (appetizer) which were pretty decent, however, the pretzel bread's salt (which I'm pretty sure was sprinkled on at the end of preparation) was coated in some kind of waxy substance resembling candle wax. After the sliders, we went with the lobster and shrimp gnocchi and the sea bass entrees. The gnocchi and shrimp were cooked thoroughly, but the star of the dish, the lobster, was overcooked. The sauce was decent but would have been much better with some salt and a subtle heat (perhaps with sweet paprika). As far as the sea bass, overall it was good, but the scalloped potatoes were a bit dry. Lastly, the bread pudding was quite dense, and the lava cake dessert left a bit to be desired. Specifically, I was expecting that it would be like most of their lava cakes I've had in the past where you cut into it and the interior was full of chocolate sauce. However, this one was a dense, round piece of dark chocolate fudge cake with a teaspoon of chocolate on top. read more

We ate here last night for the first time. We wanted to try a nice new restaurant which is highly needed in this area. We ordered the crab crusted sea bass and the lobster and crab gnocchi. The million dollar potatoes needs a different name, with a name like that I was expecting a meltdown in my mouth which came out disappointing to say the least. The crust to the potatoes was hard and I had to spit out due to I could not chew it. The seasoning lacked and was more of a rubber texture. The Crusted Crab Seabass was good I would rate it a 5 on a scale of 10 being excellent. The crab on top of the seabass was a nice combination but I ate some of the seabass with out the crab and it gave an overpowering fish taste, a little lemon sauce on the side would be nice to pair with this dish in this case. We also ordered the crab cakes, scallops and lobster watermelon appetizers. We had two alcohol drinks. The drinks were made perfectly. The watermelon and lobster was good for being in MN, knowing it is not as fresh. The taste of the crab cakes were ok I have had way better at other restaurants I would say it is lacking the flavor. The portion size on the crab cakes is a lot so it is a plus but if you made it more flavorful you could cut back portion size. The scallops were nicely prepared but did not melt in your mouth moment and pared with the berries was nice taste. The crème brûlée was a disappointment it was gritty and not a true custard it tasted more like a pudding and the top texture was not done properly with a very thin layer of hardened caramelized sugar. The atmosphere of this place inside restaurant reminds me of a mimic of Baldamar in Roseville which is nice. The only issue is when I used the restaurant bathroom there is a a full length mirror right in front of you while you sit to go to the bathroom which is odd to me, but the weirdest is the picture above the toilet that reads " I see London I see France" Well the old saying to the rest of that is I see your underpants. So my reaction is looking for hidden cameras around the room. This makes me question having my 9 year old to use a public bathroom in this establishment. If it is made as a joke I understand but now in today's time probably not a good idea. The service from when we were seated to when we left was nice and appreciated. Overall our bill was over $400.00 including tip. I would say not worth repeating. read more

Sadly for Blaine I cannot recommend this new restaurant Prime. The restaurant charges like a 5 star restaurant, but the service and ambiance are that of an upscale sports bar. Which it is just upstairs from. The restaurant is open concept, which means the bar (filled with tvs for sports) and also open to the outdoor patio area with a 20 foot screen with more sports. It is very distracting and not in line with 78-150 dollar steaks. Our waiter did not have recommendations, instead he gave us a generic speech about texture of steaks, and just felt lost the whole night. While they do not rush you, they took 45 min after our appetizer came to even take our order, and still two out the five of us did not get exactly what we ordered and had to be redone. The food was good, but not excellent. The ambiance was distracting and our whole table faced the bathrooms. For the 500 price tag for 5 people, we have come to expect either perfection or unique, and this was neither. read more

we live in Blaine and tried this restaurant two times. both were extremely disappointing, in the end, we will not be back. We'll continue to drive outside of Blaine for good dining. first time we ordered 4 entrees, two of which were filets. One was prepared to perfection, the second came out and I think the cow was still alive... it was sent back, came out again, still rare.. third time it came out it was cooked to a stunning over well done... The sides were... tasteless, at best. the quarter chicken was watery... they charged $10 for bread that was meh ( they should NOT be charging for bread.. ) and $14 for mushrooms. desert was, as hard as it seems to believe, even more disappointing then the main course. we ordered the Bread pudding and the Lava Meltdown cake. first, the bread pudding didn't have much flavor and wasn't warm and soft like a good bread pudding should be. the lava meltdown was missing the Lava.. it was basically two brownies. in the end we paid over $400 for a meal that I am not sure we would have been happy paying $150 for. never were we offered any thing to make up for the poorly prepared filets or the joke that was the desert. that said, my wife and I decided to give it a second shot.. which was and will be the last time we visit this restaurant. my filet was "ok". my wife got the black and blue pasta and the sirloin was bad. it tasted spoiled. we ordered the bread pudding again just hoping that the first time was just simply not good and this would be different.. it wasn't. we even told our server about the poor experience we had the first time around. again, his only response was, "oh.. that's too bad... We went to the Prime restaurant for a 40th birthday celebration. We all had high expectations for the restaurant, but were sadly disappointed. I ordered the filet mignon medium, steak toppings, Brussels sprouts, and had a cocktail. The steak was terrible; even though it was pink all the way through, it was dry, not juicy, and not flavorful. The millionaire potatoes were nothing special; they were dry. Brussels sprouts were a tad bit salty. Overall, the prices were high for the quality. We wanted to love this place. We had Crab Cakes appetizer (a little fishy), 18 oz rib eye and 6 oz wagyu (good but under cooked, we ordered medium and both came out medium rare - warm very red center but not hot - honestly the food came so fast I'm guessing it just didn't rest at all) and crème brûlée (very tasty custard but 'shell' wasn't very solid).
