Why has it taken me so long to go here? My wife and I came here before a night out in St. Paul and it was great. Service was outstanding and everything tasted phenomenal!! We each had a burger and it was an amazing burger (herbie burger). For drinks we had a couple beers and a lavender mule. Definitely coming back. Ps: pub pass app has BOGO on beers.0

A nice upscale restaurant for drinks or food! We made a reservation in advance with a large group and they were so welcoming, patient, and accommodating. The space is absolutely gorgeous and perfect for a date night. The artichoke hearts were perfectly tender and really tasty. The gnocchi was also delicious! I loved the addition of lemon to the sauce, giving it a unique flare and make it feel light. Definitely worth checking out for some high quality food!!

The service was good and I liked the vibe of the bar. We only ordered drinks and hung out for a bit, but the food menu looked good too!

Great spot close by Xcel energy stadium for a bite and a beer! I had the Herbie burger and it was cooked perfectly with an amazing aioli on top. The fries were crispy with Parmesan and I love the board they serve it on. We sat in the overflow area so we were surrounded by architecture from the hotel attached which was beautiful and worked for us as we only had a little bit of time to eat before the game. We told them we didn't have much time before the game and so everything came out on time and we were able to make it to the game with time to spare.

I like the vibe at this place. I've been here a couple of times and the staff really does know how to handle a crowd when they get slammed during a local convention or a sporting event. Bar service is great, chips and dip is a must. Ordered the chicken flatbread for lunch and it was a soggy miss. Looks like the burgers are the way to go.

Usually, a 16-person dinner party results in a compromised evening, but tonight Herbie's rose to the occasion with an outstanding meal in a beautiful setting. Located near the grand Saint Paul Hotel, the historical library, Ordway Center, and the Xcel Energy Center, Herbie's comfortable and warm vibe nails it. I love the architecture and its setting. Alyssa, our server, was fantastic, with helpful suggestions regarding their exciting menu. I started with a tasty tea on a snowy night. I am glad I heeded her suggestion of seasonal risotto with salmon and green beans. It was phenomenal, an incredible blend of superior taste and consistency. Everything about the visit was positive. I hope that I get to visit Herbie's again!

We stopped here before an event at the Ordway, very convenient to parking and the venue. I've stopped here many times. This last visit I choose the salmon. It had a nice outer crisp and cooked perfectly inside. The apple flavored side complimented the salmon well. Others at our table had meatloaf and a burger. Fries were crispy and delicious. Meatloaf was a tasty comfort food. We also used our pub pass to get a free beer. Service was excellent. Very nice experience.

Such a awesome hidden jem! I was led here because of the MSP/St. Paul pub pass. We had some drinks and appetizers. The restaurant is located kiddy corner to rice park. The staff was very nice and our server helped us with the daily specials and recommendations. I believe it's a bit higher scale than my family is used to the food was amazing and presented well. They have a more formal dining area and a bar setting with tvs. We tried the Brussel sprouts and the Buffalo chicken flatbread!

We both grew up in NYC's suburbs/ worked in manhattan until 2000 and then moved to VA MN FL and back to MN. The well discussed homeless situation we find in outstanding meticulous control by the very attentive St Paul Police who know the community on a first name basis. (Weekends you don't see them, and during the week only spotted. They never approach us.). I have worked with the impoverished communities in Harlem, Boston, Richmond, Va and Mn as a volunteer and a few full time positions in Boston. Catholic charities has done a REMARKABLE job supporting/effectively aiding the entire homeless community in the Twin Cities! As a result, we are very comfortable walking anywhere during the day and early evening. So with great joy we joined hundreds of others on St Paul's famous " Train Days" with family and grandson. Then we went to 1881 for a light lunch for the first time. They were happily packed, and all the diners were voraciously downing their meals for a considerable time. I saw a beautiful " fish and chips platter" and will definitely come back to try it for dinner. The setting, ambiance are stellar! The main majestic thrilling lobby of this venerable giant ELEGANT old train station-- more beautiful than NYC and Boston's but similar to those in the Canadian Rockies ( took the Canadian Pacific northern route in 1970 w 70 lb backpack fr Vancouver to Detroit... unforgettable). This majestic rare location....makes the dining experience unique and wonderous! We both had excellent martinis expertly prepared and their famous French onion soup and salads. Our family ate croissant sandwiches and a wonderful egg dish. Beautiful exhilarating awe inspiring places like this have almost completely disappeared all across the USA. Old world cooking and meticulous good delicious seasoning is also FAST disappearing. Places like this desperately NEED us to survive. HIGHLY recommend!!! Enjoy!

Previously, the food saved it from itself. The dining area is so noisy, and the tables are jammed into each other - there is no way to get in or out without bumping into another chair - but for good food at acceptable prices, it was worth it. After the last visit, the food isn't worth it for me. On this most recent stop, several of the regular items i had gotten had been discontinued, and I could find nothing else that was appealing, so I went with their omelette special. It was disgusting. I ate the individual elements by themselves, so that it wouldn't be a total waste, but much of the bacon just tasted bad - not undercooked - just bad, like they didn't know how to make bacon. The decline in food quality seems to mimic the overall decline in this establishent. I can't foresee ever going back. PS The Service was good.

I started with the tequila and mezcal Old Fashioned, and it was fantastic. It was well-balanced, beautifully presented, and garnished perfectly. The food was equally impressive. The wings were delicious--crispy, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. My only small note would be that the celery was a little limp. The Caesar salad has officially been added to my regular rotation. The jammy egg was cooked perfectly with a rich, yolky center that was still easy to slice. The Parmesan crisps were thoughtfully sized, adding great texture without being so large they scraped the roof of your mouth. The salad was evenly dressed, making every bite flavorful. The restaurant itself is really beautiful and it's also very big. I guessed 200 seats plus patio. The space is very elegant, and clearly a lot of attention went into the design. I would describe it as kind of modern steakhouse vibe. Dark wood, faux fur and leather finishes, etc. Elegant. We were seated at a booth by the bar with a big window view of the patio and parking lot. We were immediately slightly offput because the marble ledge separating the booth from the window was dirty - grease and little food crumbs. Not the best first impression. The booth and table were both clean though. Our waitress, Ash, did provide good service but I would say honestly she was a bit too attentive if that makes sense, and she was also too chatty for us. There were several times when she lingered at our table to tell us something we didn't inquire about or to just talk about something. It was a bit annoying honestly. But the service itself was good. We were also visited by a manager during our visit. We each got a mocktail (it was lunch) but they have an impressive drink menu. I got the Red Rose which was really tasty, and my husband got the pineapple drink, which he also said was good. -We ordered the chimichuri shrimp appetizer, which was pretty banging. Four really large shrimp, each on its own piece of bruschetta, doused in chimichuri sauce. Even for me, with a low spice tolerance, it was just the right amount of spice and it was really really good. -We also got a round of oysters. The oysters themselves were fresh - no complaints there. When they were delivered to our table, the person did not tell us which variety was which (pretty standard when serving oysters at any restaurant). Because we eat oysters a lot and one of the varieties was sweet petite, it was fairly easy to tell which was which. But in my opinion, there should have been information given when the oysters were served. The other big issue was the shucking. Some of the oysters hadn't been fully separated from the shell, and we both found ourselves picking bits of shell from our mouths. We actually had a little discussion about the $6 price tag. I felt it was reasonable, my husband felt it was high. But for $6 apiece, the oysters need to be shucked properly and these were not. Ash also made a point to tell us all kinds of information we didn't ask for about their happy hour, which includes $3 oysters. That would be a steal if they learn how to shuck them. -I got the half french dip sandwich, and I was really glad I just ordered the half because what I was served was totally a whole sandwich in my book. The accompanying fries were delicious, crispy, deep golden brown and hot. The au jus served with the sandwich was slightly on the salty side but not terrible. And I do realize it's au jus. In all it was a pretty decent sandwich. -Hubby got the sea bass sandwich, which was also pretty tasty. I'll be honest and say that I think the entree sea bass would have been better. The fish was so good that I don't honestly think you needed the bun. But it was really good and fresh and delicious. We skipped dessert. In all, a pretty solid dining experience and the food was very good. But it was the minor things mentioned that bothered us, so 3 stars with room for improvement upon our return.

I didn't think the signature drinks were overly unique, with classics like Paper Plane making that menu side. I had a pomegranate mojito which was good!
