As a horror & supernatural lover, I was glad that I finally crossed this off my MN restaurant bucket list. Unfortunately my gf and I didn't see any ghosts or haunting but we experienced very delicious food for her special birthday dinner! My torchio pasta dish was very savory and nice. Noodles were al dente, and the sauce wasn't too watery or thick. My girlfriend had the malfade and she expressed satisfaction. She is also the biggest French fry lover you'll ever meet so I had to opt in for the frites (rosemary garlic). You know the sides are good if you couldn't put them down because that was what we did. The aioli sauce was very delicious and tangy too; highly recommend. The mansion itself is very beautiful, like my gf lol ;). I'm a huge sucker for gothic architecture so seeing this in person was a delight. Likewise with the elegant interior, which I love how they didn't change too much and have kept some artifacts and belongings of the building. The server was also exceptional, wish I had gotten his name, but he was very nice and receptive. He and the staff even provided a complimentary birthday cake for my girlfriend, which was well made; very moist and sweet. Need to go back to this place. read more

Set in an elegant mansion with many different rooms, this restaurant has been on my list since it reopened. Came here for Galentine's Day 2026 with my gal for the 5 course tasting menu. The server was kind enough to sub out a couple of items that I don't eat from the vegetarian menu. The food was delicious but not terribly filling. Forepaugh's was the perfect location for our girls night out!! The black mansion is perfectly picturesque in the snow. We made a reservation ahead of time for the 3 of us on a Thursday night. It was pretty busy, but the separate dining rooms kept it more intimate. Our whole meal took about 2 hours, the perfect amount of time for us to yap. The service is top notch, from the kind staff to the expertly prepared dishes. We enjoyed the Cacio e Pepe with chicken, brussels sprouts, flowering cauliflower, Sweet pea agnolotti with crab and (unpictured) bolognese. I recommend ordering the larger meal sized portion of the agnolotti - the dill, lemon, and crab was the most amazing flavor combo. We also tried a slice of the chocolate cake, which was melt in your mouth delicious!! But most of the slice went home for later. The VIBE of the house is so classic and unique, and expertly decorated for the holiday season. I recommend taking a walk around the other rooms/floor if you get the chance. Every room has a different vibe and decorations. Make sure to check out the photos on the walls and the chandelier where Molly, the Forepaugh's maid, allegedly took her own life. Although the mansion has its ghost stories, we had a positive time dining there. If you're driving, valet is $15 or there's a parking lot across the street at the Alexander Ramsey House for $10. Check in at the museum for info on when parking is enforced - I've heard mixed messages, although a $10 'donation' to the Historical Society for parking seems like a good deal. read more

This is an elegant retaurant with many different rooms (converted from a large mansion). We sat in a 2nd floor dining room. Our server was excellent and very attentive and gave us great suggestions. She also told us that the third floor had a haunted room. Our appetizers were the bread service, red wine braised ribs, and mixed greens. The salad had a delicious dressing. The ribs were tender and flavorful. Our mains were the beef wellington, vegetarian spagetti dish, and mafalde bolegnese. We ordered 2 deserts (both delicious). First time here for dinner on a Friday night. I had no idea what to expect and did not realize it was a resturant you would want to dress up a bit for. Parking sucks, the resturant is surrounded by no parking unless by permit signs. Or else you park via their $15+ valet. The building is very cool and has several levels with a small amount of tables in each area. The house has been renovated but the charm is still there. The food was good. Amazing, no but good. Dessert was the best part. I would go back but maybe more for a special occasion. Oh yes, and they add on 3% to the bottom of the bill for paying with a credit card. read more

The location is very cool! We were on the third floor which was very intimate and relatively quiet. Thankfully there were no mobility issues in our group! Our server was personable and friendly and we really enjoyed our interactions with him! The food was fabulous and the three standouts for me were the beet salad, hibiscus spritz mocktail and the pear Pavlova. Be forewarned, this is definitely a "take your time and dine" experience. My husband and I went here for their special open fire pit BBQ by their executive Chef Jeremy Wessing and Taher corporate Chef Chris Murray. While we waited to be seated, we had the opportunity to talk to Chef Chris. You can tell he was passionate about his food. My husband and I decided to share a combo plate from the BBQ menu. Everything was delicious. I was surprised that I like the roasted lamb--normally I don't like lamb because of their gamey taste, but this was good and I went back for more. We both love the seasoning on the Taiwanese chicken. It was very juicy and I love the flavor on it. My husband said, "just give me a bowl of their smoked mac and cheese and the Thor's Hammer" and he would be a very happy man. I also want to say that the seasoned rosemary garlic fries were delicious. Normally, I am hesitant about fries since I don't usually eat them, but they were well prepared and delicious. The wait staff was very knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. The host was nice--checking frequently to see if our table was ready. The patio seating was good - cool breeze for a 7:15 PM reservation. Originally, I wanted to sit indoors, but there were none available. The patio looked over to the Alexander Ramsey's mansion. There is also a valet for $15. read more

my friend and i were excited to try forepaugh's given it serves a spot on the minneapolis/st paul top 50 list. the space is unique and stunning, set in an historic home. valet made parking easy and efficient. menu offers something for everyone. plenty of variety and options for drinks as well. i'd like to come back and sit at the downstairs bar; it looked cozy. the burrata and bolognese were SO GOOD. the brussel sprouts weren't anything special. the lamb chop was a bit too fatty for my liking. overall, forepaugh's is a great place in st paul and i'd definitely recommend it for your next date night :) read more

Visited 9/9/25. Thank you Forepaugh's for making my 30th birthday a wonderful one! Staff was great throughout the night and I appreciate it greatly. Also, the date night special is really solid (my mom and I split it lol). Super great amount of food for a reasonable price and loved that it included Wellington because I was most excited for that. Everything was delicious and I had been wanting to try a beef Wellington for a long time. Glad I got to try it here. Other standouts were the unique evergreen Collins drink (super woodsy and smoky taste) and the spaghetti allá chitarra. My sister got a cacio e pepe pasta and this had some good flavor. Only thing that could make this place better is complimentary bread but such a fun place with the coolest ambiance. I'm constantly recommending to others. Ooh, also: GET THE CHOCOLATE CAKE. The last time I previously ate here was 20 years ago for prom with my now wife :). So when we had a chance it was very nostalgic to head back to a place where I first said I love you. It really has not changed and the ambiance of this wonderful old mansion is second to none. I love historic places and this is lovely. We started out at the bar and had a couple lovely cocktails well waiting for our table. The bartender and wait staff were lovely and very friendly.the great service continued when we were seated. So why four and not five well I have to compare it to other great French restaurants in Minnesota and the food well very good is not the best I've had. That goes to another French restaurant in St. Paul that I hold near and dear. We had the beef Wellington which was cooked to perfection , the seafood and steak that my wife really loved, the appetizers were also quite wonderful. I think it was the manager that was apparently temporarily on the front desk. But he could not smile of being bothered, about as unfriendly as it can get for someone in that position. 3 of us came to Forepaugh's for dinner before a play at the Ordway. Pulling up, the house looks super cool; the inside continues that Victorian home feel, but gone restaurant. We were sat upstairs (I'm sure you can request to be on the main level if you have accessibility needs) in a corner window spot. Our server came over quickly & was super friendly & helpful, really personable. The 3 of us ended up ordering (to share): -Mussels appetizer (with extra bread) -Sweet Pea Agnolotti: super fresh & delicious -Crispy Skate: as the name suggests, the fish was crispy & tasty. The Brussels sprouts & potato puree were top notch -Steak Tartine: I eat primarily vegetarian & still gave this one a go, it was really delicious. The fries that came with it were also 10/10 -Farro Risotto (side): the texture was different than a normal risotto, but in a good way. This was one of my favorite parts of the meal! The only regrets we have were that we couldn't take the leftovers with us; this was definitely too much food for 3 people but SO AMAZING. I can't wait to come back! read more

Finally made it make since it reopening. Was really excited to come back after so many years. We had a birthday celebration dinner, perfect spot for it. Valet is $15 for those who care. We had a couple drinks while we waited for our table, was very good. The charm of this place is so cute. We got some meat and cheese tray for apps, all were excellent. Great quality on these. We also got the tuna crudo, wow! So good, was a hit at the table. For my dinner, I got the beef Wellington, I had thought about this since getting it many years ago. Guys, it's better than before! We took my in-laws to Forepaugh's as a Christmas gift and we had a great experience! Our server, Jack, was wonderful and did a great job making us feel celebrated. My mussels were flavorful and cooked well, and everyone else enjoyed their entrees as well, even my picky father-in-law. The fries were crispy and came with an addictive sauce. I had a VERY bad experience here. Note.. this review is not at all about the food, as I never even had a chance to try it. To start, the parking is atrocious. As noted by someone else, it's $15 PLUS tax PLUS a fee. So I go inside and ask for a seat at the bar, and confirm I can get food at the bar. The hostess seats tells me to sit anywhere and hands me a menu. Now I am sitting at the bar, jacket off, menu in front of me and the bartender does everything but ask me if I want something. I sit there for close to 10 minutes and watch her wait on the only other couple sitting at the bar (just 2 chairs over from me). After that amount of time, I decide I've had enough of being ignored. If they cannot even acknowledge me in nearly 10 minutes, I know service from there will be bad. As I leave, the same hostess that greeted me asked if I was leaving. I told her yes, as I never was approached by the bartender. She just looked a bit bewildered and said 'sorry'. In her defense, she was probably 20 years old and that was probably awkward for her. Bottom line.. save yourself some time and don't go there to be ignored. read more

Popped in here on a Thursday for a quick snack and drink and was blown away!! We had a few apps to share and they were all great, had a handmade pasta, a dessert and then another round of apps! Just an excellent menu! We also had the coconut Negroni which truly blew me away, often Negroni just tastes like Negroni no matter what but this was so interesting and unique would highly recommend! We also walked around the whole place and loved the vibe - it's really surprisingly big and spacious with each room having a different vibe! This is a lovely restaurant in an old Victorian mansion. There are multiple different places you can be seated as it is an old house. We were seated upstairs in a room that had 2-3 other tables. It was a nice ambience and conducive to conversation as the volume wasn't too loud. Service was lovely and the waitress was knowledgeable. We went for a 30th birthday and were treated to a complimentary glass of champagne and sorbet. The food was also quite nice. Would recommend getting bread with the burrata as it doesn't come with it. Celebrated my husband's birthday with a group of 6 total. The location is nice parking can be tricky but there is valet for $15. Lots of room in the restaurant with multiple levels we were on the third floor which was nice and quiet so we could chat. Our server was very nice and manager Steve came and checked in on house multiple times as well as told us about the history of the restaurant. Drinks were good and there were mocktails available for those not drinking. We started with Burrata while flavor was good , no bread or crisps to eat it with, for the price would have enjoyed something to accompany it. Burger was exceptional whatever sauce on it was very flavorful. Also tried the bolognese and noodles were cooked perfectly and sauce was very good. Was hoping to try the beef Wellington but it was gone before I could. The feedback was it was to good to share! The menu was uncomplicated ranging from enticing starters, silky pastas, savory entrees and sides. A Long list of cocktails and a longer listing of wines to elegantly complement your culinary experience. The plating was thoughtful without too much visual flare. The properly seasoned lamb chops were cooked to a medium rare, tender, and juicy. The Frenched chops were accompanied with caramelized onions, a minted sauce and placed on top of a bed of risotto. As a side, I order the Gem salad freshly composed greens, cumumbers, cherry tomatoes tossed with a lemony vinaigrette and for added texture topped with nuts and seeds. A sumptuous meal, deliciously orchestrated and my complements to the Chef. The overall dining experience was graced by prompt friendly wait staff, while seated in comfortable table with soft lighting, quiet atmosphere only added to historical appeal of a restaurant occupying a hundred year-old Victorian mansion. As a final note, in spite of selecting 4 stars I highly recommend Forepaugh's Restaurant. Went for dinner on a Saturday night with my wife, daughter and son-in-law. It's a really cool Victorian mansion, so I was sort of expecting the food to take a back seat to the venue. But everything was really quite good. We started with cocktails in the bar, which were excellent and served in cool glassware. Dinner also did not disappoint. I had sea bass with farro risotto that was top notch. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the beef Wellington, while our daughter and son-in-law in law enjoyed lamb chops and roasted chicken. Don't go for the food! I had my first and last dinner there last night. The place is cool and supposed to haunted, but the food leaves something to be desired. I had the spaghetti and tiny meatballs... the red sauce was creamy and sucked, and the pasta was overcooked. Rib apps were weird overall and well just weird. Go for the haunted house and cool place, but keep your expectations in check. read more

I hosted a private luncheon recently and both the food and service were amazing. As promised for our holiday luncheon the room was beautifully decorated with seasonal decor. Was really excited to try this place. Very underwhelming experience. Had a reservation at 7pm got there right at. It was a long climb up to the third floor. That wasn't enjoyable. Got seated and ordered a drink I got the sizzler it was not good very sweet no punch and tasted just of alcohol. I swapped that out for a mojito and it was reasonable. I hesitated but ordered the beef Wellington. Was a lot smaller than expected and what it looked like in the pictures. It lacked salt and our waitress was slow. I don't blame her since she is coming up to the third floor. Seems like an intense workout. For 65$ for the BW I was pretty disappointed. Felt like a money grab. Basic veggies on the side just so overwhelming. I heard the chef is from a Michelin restaurant. Didn't transfer to the plate imo. Our waitress seemed uninterested in hustling for our table. So slow. She said to ask if we wanted salt but she didn't come back for 20 mins and at that point the food was gone. Then when she asked if we wanted dessert we actually did but by the time she came back we were just ready to pay and leave. I understand she needs to climb stairs but we sat down at 7pm and didn't eat a single bite of food until 815. Unreal. Overall not a place I would try again. I give a few stars for the uniqueness of the place. I'm happy I tried but it was underwhelming. read more

It's pricey but how often does one get a chance to eat in an old mansion? About as often as one eats in a haunted restaurant. Well, guess what? It's both! We were served by Molly - person, not the ghost. She was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I had one of my favorite meals - beef wellington and yum! My gorilla had a seafood like soup...shellfish rigatoni. We were both happy. Dessert was the banana option. Will we go back? Very probably. Was it so spectacular it will be often and/or soon? No as we live on the other side of the Twin Cities but if it isn't winter, roads are drivable and we're in St. Paul, sure. read more
