Had a breakfast meeting here at 8 AM on a Saturday morning. We were the first two in the restaurant, and we were greeted warmly by our server and another woman (may have been an owner). I dig the decor and the layout - I imagine it's a lively place in the evenings...a great place to share a pint w/ friends. We each ordered up the McMenamy Hash (Corned Beef w/ 2 eggs and potatoes). It was exceptional. The corned beef was plentiful (ultra tender and great flavor), as were the potatoes. The tastes came together perfectly, and the eggs were cooked perfectly (and also large). It also includes toast or an English Muffin. I threw down my entire plate within about 10 minutes...I was hungry and didn't have to do much talking during the meeting! Most of the breakfast options were in the $8-$11, which seems like a decent value for all the food you get. If you happen to be in the Long Lake/Orono/Maple Plain region, definitely check it out. Came here right after a 4 day camping trip and the food was like heaven on earth. I got the curd burger and with each juicy, delicious bite I felt like Kim K as Kanye finishes in her mouth, it was amazing. And speaking of Jesus, our waitress was like an angel from heaven sent down to bless us with the meal of the gods. The atmosphere of the restaurant was impeccable, it was friendly and not so loud to where you needed a megaphone to hear yourself talk. My burger was cooked to juicy perfection and with each bite I could taste Jesus's semen flowing through my mouth and dribbling down my chin, leaving me feeling like a good submissive little femboy bottom. Going here made up for Donda not dropping last night. Would rate 10/10. read more

McGarry's has been a consistently good spot for locals, and is easily accessible from 394 for those coming in from the city. The menu here changes often, which keeps things new and fresh, and maintains a variety of great offerings. They also keep the most popular dishes around, so you won't have to worry about it disappearing before your next visit. The atmosphere is great because it is not too noisy, yet has a fun, neighborhood grill kind-of vibe. Great TV viewing if you're coming for the game as well. The fireplace makes it a cozy environment during the colder months, and it is situated right by the main bar/dining area. The bar itself is great--its an Irish Pub-style (surprise, surprise), and has a beautiful etched glass backdrop with a lot of comfortable seating. My favorites are the Blarney Stone appetizer, the raspberry bread pudding, the shepherds pie, and the Reuben sandwich. Definitely stop by if you're down this way--or make a special trip if you're looking to get away from the city...but not too far away. read more

I've frequented this pub many times over the past 20 years or so. Recently, I've been meeting with a men's bible study regularly at this pub. I've always enjoyed the home-cooked food and the variety of it. The atmosphere is pleasant and cozy. There is always something on the menu for whatever mood I'm in. I cannot recall ever leaving feeling disappointed over anything. The service is always friendly and attentive, the price is reasonable for the level of quality. The beer and cocktail menus are extensive enough, (can it ever be too big)? The jalapeno poppers are the best I've ever had, and that goes for the Reuben sandwich as well! You know that moment when you are eating really good food and the entire table is quiet for a moment? That is exactly what you will get at McGarry's Pub. Great food, friendly service, and a fun environment. We came here for a post St. Patrick's day gathering of friends. There were eight of us but we were seated in a nice quiet back area. Our waitresses handled our table amazingly well. They did a great job remembering who ordered what, making sure our large group was well looked after, and most importantly they laughed along with the absurdity that is my friends. We would be having the strangest of conversations and our waitress would just give a smile and a laugh when she took our orders. It felt so friendly and comfortable. The food was so good. We started with a bunch of different apps to share. The standouts for me were the jalapeno poppers and the blarney stones (basically scotch eggs). What really impressed me was that the bacon on the jalaepno poppers was cooked so well! It wasn't chewy or so over that it crumbled off. I've never had one that well cooked before. For my main I got the turkey pot pie. When I think pot pie I think back to those frozen ones at grocery stores. This is the total opposite of that. The crust to start is exactly how I like it. The top is perfectly browned but it is still just a little gooey on the inside. The filling of the pie was delicious. I feel like most pot pies tend to be a lot of gravy and some chunks of meat. This pot pie was like turkey and veggies slow cooked in gravy to the point that they absorbed the gravy. There wasn't a big soupy mess under the crust. Instead there was big chunks of fall apart tender turkey and veggies covered in a rich creamy gravy. There was so much turkey too! I managed to eat about 3/4 of it before I had to call it quits. It was one of those dishes that you hit full but keep going because it is so good. I also have to give them a shout out for their drinks. The beers come in healthy beer glasses. I also enjoyed a Hot Mint Chata to start my meal (it was cold out). It was like a really good boozy hot chocolate. What really set it apart was how good the whipped cream was. It was thick, not too sweet, and it didn't just melt into the drink. I was in heaven! The lunch we had was so relaxed and I give this place so much credit for that. They serve you really good pub food. No crazy twists or silliness needed; just good food and good drinks. It was a place where we all laughed a bit too loud and let our hair down after a long week without having to worry about what others thought. I have to admit, this place caught me off guard in a good way. I was expecting a good ol' regular bar with the standard bar menu (fries, burgers, etc) but this place had quite a nice Irish Menu and yes even Vegetarian friendly items! I wish I tried the Rueben Rolls, since they sounded interesting. This bar will serve you up a nice Martini to a canned beer. Fun place to eat at! Stopped there while passing through town and we're glad we did! We had a waitress who was very nice and caring. I had a hardy and very tasty Shepherds Pie and my wife had the Rueben. She love the fact that the pastrami was chunky and super tender and she could tell that lots of love went into it. Both of our meals were served piping hot! Beer was served nice and cold too! We will be back next time we are in the area for sure! Looks like a fun summer spot with outdoor seating as well. Warming Me Up From the Inside-Out! Came to McGarry's Pub after a mid-day cross-country-skiing adventure and was so happy I did. My friends and I were a little chilled and needed some hearty, warm, tasty food STAT. I'm happy to say McGarry's delivered on every point. We ordered Poutine for the table and, never having tried it before, I was unsure what fries drenched in gravy and cheese would taste like. Let me just say that their fries were perfectly crunchy and crispy EVEN after being doused in the most delicious gravy I've had this side of Thanksgiving. Quite a feat. Not sure how they did it but I'm going with the luck 'o the Irish. My table mates ordered a Mahi Po-Boy, Meatloaf, and Maple Plain burger while I opted for the BBQ Ghost Pepper-jack Chicken. I love spicy (like, LOVE love) but I caution anyone who doesn't to opt away from this. From the cheese to the BBQ sauce, this thing was drenched in fire-y love - just the way I like it. We all opted for fries as a side (except the Meatloaf, which came with mashed potatoes) and kept the leftover gravy from the Poutine to dip our fries in (we were pretty proud of ourselves for deciding to do this - waste not, want not, right?) The service was impeccable - very friendly and incredibly prompt (refilling our water umpteenth times). The atmosphere was spot on for a local pub (we even sat near their fireplace, which helped melt our exteriors). I highly recommend this place for anyone in the area, and at a mere 8 minutes outside of Wayzata, it's not nearly as far as one might think. Go check it out - you will not regret it! read more

I met a few friends here this evening. We trickled into the patio, had some lovely little reuben-like egg roll things and scotch eggs and beers, and then some more friends arrived. All told, fourteen of us inadvertently ambushed the place. Yikes! They were completely unfazed, and kindly opened up the back room while our server patiently attended to our every need. Really splendid folks. The Irish fare isn't particularly authentic, but it was all very tasty, and the healthy portions were very reasonably priced. Boddington's on draft is a big win. All told I had a great evening with some new and old friends. McGarry's staff were patient, attentive, and kindly invited us back to do it again, anytime. This place is amazing. I've known of it for years from when it was small town breakfast joint and I'm just amazed at the transition that's taken place. Consistently having wonderful service and really great food. I've gone with family and friends for great happy hour deals and recently was very please by all the option on the menu. Their version of macaroni and cheese was tasty. Cheese curds a great option to share. The bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado sandwich is super tasty and fresh. He made staying well worth it along with the food! The menu didn't offer a whole lot of choices, but I would say it had something for everyone; burgers, seafood, steak and of course the Irish dishes. I ordered the meatloaf which was amazing and my husband ordered the crab cake hoagie and he said it was fresh and the best he's had. The prices were decent for the amount of food we got. I came here for dinner last night to catch up with a friend. Being a pub, I of course had to order some pub food so fish and chips it was topped off with a Bass and Boddingtons. Service here is pretty quick, the waitstaff is friendly, and the food is ok, nothing spectacular. The fish that came out was well battered, fried perfectly, and it was a pretty large filet. It was not overdone at all and was flakey and moist. I do however wish they did something more to the batter by adding some seasoning to it because without the tartar sauce/lemon it was pretty darn bland. The fries pretty tasty but a wee bit over salted for my tastes. This restaurant has a pretty good selection of beer and they will run anywhere from the $5.00-6.00 range so it's a pretty standard. This restaurant does have a pretty nice interior and they have seating outside at the front of the restaurant and at the back of the restaurant. All in all a good place to eat especially in Maple Plain with its limited options. I'd go back if I was in the neighborhood. read more
