The ambiance is a little more refined than most sit-down restaurants in the area but with a very friendly, come-as-you-are, vibe. Appears to be popular among locals with a lively bar area. For apps we tried onion rings, wings, and a bowl of chicken wild rice soup. Noticing a theme? My husband loves the wings, and I almost try chicken wild rice soup if it's on the menu. We shared a prime rib dinner and it was massive! More than enough for the two of us with leftovers. I went with my dear girlfriend and she said it had recently remodeled. There was a 30 minute wait for an outdoor table. They had plenty of waiting seating. We had a shrimp tacos and grandma Ruth's Prime Rib. We were hungry so forgot pics. Drinks took awhile to get and my lemonade was not strawberry lemonade. This place is always busy at dinner time so we decided to swing by on a gorgeous sunny day and have lunch on the patio. We order the teriyaki wings and spicy garlic wings. For the main course I tried their patty melt with fries and my husband ordered their Buffalo chicken wrap. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Our server was friendly, kind and attentive. We have been going here for years, but last night was really bad. I ordered the Poke tuna bowl with rice. The tuna was so fishy I couldn't eat it. My husband's steak was very tough. We have been going to River Inn since 2020. Food is always good. Love the Prime Rib & Ribs. Ribs are usually available Wednesday thru Sunday nights till they run out. Have also had the Western Burger, Blackened Walley, Ribeye, Cajun Porkchops, Salmon, Broiled Shrimp, Bone-in wings, plus many of their other burger & sandwiches: and have never been disappointed with my choices which have always been good. They also have many unique specials for lunch. All the staff are always friendly and give excellent service. We love going there, because they don't have reservations and enjoy having cocktails while waiting in their spacious outdoor seating area with a firepit when the weather is cooler. Overall this place has easily become one of our favorites, it's local, reasonably priced and the food and drinks are absolutely amazing. I would say my favorite part about this restaurant is the kids play area. The one negative that I have noticed so far, there is one hostess that has been rude and unpleasant the last couple of times we have been here. I do not know her name, but she has blonde hair and is middle aged. Unfortunately the interactions that we have had with her each time we have come in she has made either myself or my family feel like we were not welcomed or a problem. Been to the River Inn at least 10 times, keep going back:). The remodel is great and the outside dining is terrific in the summer. I have had most things on the menu and haven't had a bad meal yet. Great location and ambience in the restaurant itself. Nice outdoor area (partly covered) which would be perfect in cooler weather. Friendly and helpful staff. The batter-fried walleye fingers and garlic mashed potatoes were great. It's the kind of place you wouldn't mind sitting at the bar to eat and enjoy the atmosphere. The only glitch came in the cocktail. They advertise an Old Fashioned with any bourbon, but they recommend a few including Whistle Pig Rye which I selected. The drink was a weird combination of a normal Old Fashioned and a Wisconsin snowmobile bar Old Fashioned (orange and artificial maraschino cherry) and the ice was melted down a lot. Tasted very weird. The receipt said it was Woodford Reserve which isn't what I'd ordered. I provide this detail only for those who see the Old Fashioned and are thinking it's going to be a simple, classic OF. It was not. Borderline undrinkable. But all in all, I'd still go back and just be a little more specific with my drink order. Strong recommendation to check the place out. read more

If you're looking for a local hotspot outside of the city rush hour, this is your place. Great local, small town vibe. Food is always great. The owners and staff go out of their way to make you happy. Very historic building from the 1800's where it was a bar for the locals and bank robbers alike. My only request for Rick and Jody is for the staff to have their own, personalized parking spots. That way Kaylee wouldn't be driving in circles looking for a parking spot at 4pm. Everything here is at a minimum, good, but not everything is great. The pizza, it's great. The buffalo chicken sandwich, it's good. The fries maybe one of the few things I would ever consider, average, but, you combine those bad boys with seasoned sour sour cream, delicious. This is certainly my number 2 spot in Minnesota thus far for pizza. Had a laundry list of different pizzas, and yes, the list ever revolving, but now that the original Red Savoy's is closed, Cossettas is 1, River Inn 2. There's two knocks I have on the place. First is parking, second is that the first time I went, before the Rona, they had a history of the building I believe on the menus or somewhere that was easy to find at the table. If I recall correctly there was a famous mobster that got his hair cut there at one point. But, as most places go, it seems they've suppressed that part of their history. But back to the positive! The onion rings....probably, for me, the best I've had. So, so crunchy. This places deep frying is on a different level and the proof is in the pudding. I mean how many places are so good that they turn down a visit from Triple D? The staff, super friendly, super quick. And, with Castle Danger Cream Ale on tap, can you go wrong? Anyway, well worth the drive, definitely a 3 or 4 for pricing, in my opinion, but it's worth it. read more

The prime rib and sides are perfect along with appetizers and drinks. Expect to wait for seating but usually not very long. Although it's roughly a 25 minute drive, we thought the food and service were worth it compared to other venues in our area of Maple Grove. We shared onion rings as an appetizer and they were very good. We split a blackened chicken sandwich with an upgrade to sweet potato fries and the sandwich came out pre-divided for us---each plated as a half sandwich and fries. Excellent sandwich, excellent ciabatta bread, excellent sweet potato fries and aioli. Our friends had wrap sandwiches which were large and kettle chips. They said they were very good. Service is attentive and friendly. The other food coming out to other tables all looked good too. The beer was cold as well! 'Tis the season for giving, so I'm going to give another rave review about River Inn, though it's only been 6 months since my last one. I hope that this review helps bring them a lot more business because the restrictions over the last 9 months--including the current dine-in prohibition--have had a big impact on River Inn and other local restaurants. We love River Inn and want to help them--just as Jodi jumps to help each youth organization that asks for donations. We wanted a special family meal and--as always--River Inn made that happen. Their food is always amazing. That would be enough for us to keep returning except the River Inn team--more like a family--is wonderful in every possible way. They are very friendly and take care of each customer with genuine warmth. They care and it shows, which isn't surprising considering that Jodi seems to remember every customer by name and manages to talk to every customer while helping throughout the restaurant. Thank you to all of you, including Kaylee, who took and packaged our order flawlessly. In case you're wondering, it included a Veggie Pizza, Steakhouse Melt (my husband is addicted), Cheeseburger, and Taco Salad (I substituted chicken for the taco meat). Everything was delish! Our community is so blessed to have this gem of a restaurant here. Amazing place! I've been going here since I was 2 years old. I'm now 23. My family know the owners - who are frequently there in person. They're always welcoming and check in on us when they see us come in. The food is amazing. I always recommend it to people out of town. Very busy at 3 pm on a Saturday. We got their pizza that tasted like frozen cracker style pizza. Very thin and not much flavor.

We had a large party (13) come in for a birthday party. Rather than being exasperated by our request, Jodi, the hostess, welcomed us with "the more the merrier". We did have about an hour wait but the outdoor patio was pleasant with several fires going to keep warm by and visit. Spencer took care of our drink orders while we waited and it was almost disappointing when our table was ready. Once seated our server, Nikki, took great care of us. She got everything perfect and wasn't flustered with many questions and credit cards. We were made to feel right at home from the moment we walked in until we left. Thank you River Inn. Honestly I've never had anything here that was less than 5 stars. I've had many hamburgers, their creamy wild rice soup is the best I've ever had, sometimes we go their just for that. It's the type of place that does just about everything well. First and foremost, the Cucumber Press is a near perfect drink for anyone. It's light and refreshing, with enough punch to make you feel it just a little. The pizza, especially the Reuben, is great. Scottie's Wings, a combination dry rub and buffalo, are must try!
