On a lovely Friday in November, my friend and I came here for lunch. It was about 11:30, right when they open. The restaurant was empty and clean. I ordered the poutine for lunch. I've had it here a couple times, and usually it's great. This time the flavor wasn't nearly as good as in the past. I felt like it was the gravy, but I could be wrong. The poutine was fine, but not amazing. And sadly, I probably won't recommend it to friends anymore. The service was poor. We got our food and drinks, but I don't think we saw her again after that. Kind of friendly, definitely not helpful or attentive. Will I come back? . . . . I haven't decided, but I'm leaning toward "No". read more

We celebrated St.Patrick's Day with a hearty helping of stew for each of us, followed by Sheopards Pie and Corned Beef and Cabbage. We enjoyed every single bite and were quite full when we finished. Our server was kind and checked in regularly. And the ambiance was relaxing and decorated nicely. We plan to visit again and enjoy some deserts next time. read more

My husband and I were very disappointed in our experience here. We started our meal with a classic Midwest staple of cheese curds. They were probably some of the worst cheese curds we've ever had. The breading was too thick and many of the cheese curds had little to no cheese inside and were just hollowed out breading. Things got worse when we got our entres. I got the surf and surf which came with a piece of cod, "lump crab cake," and two sides. The crab cake was horrible and was flat as a pancake. It didn't even taste like crab meat and tasted more like a low budget tuna fish patty. The cod was ok but nothing to write home about. My husband's Cole slaw was horrible and just tasted like vinager drinched cabage. On top of just awful food, when we got home my husband felt very sick from something we ate there. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars and not one is because the service wasn't too bad and atmosphere was actually pretty nice. Please take our advice and go elsewhere in Apple Valley for better food . read more

Very unassuming as you walk up and walk in. we arrived about 45 minutes before closing on a wednesday, and it was pretty quiet, but the bartender/waitress was still attentive and gave us a good amount of attention. good enough beer list, and the reuben was delicious! i also got the banger bites, which were fantastic. the cheese curds were nothing special, but overall it was a pleasant surprise! read more

Third time coming, first 2 times the service and food were great! Tonight not so much, unfortunately. I ordered the steak with mashed potatoes and carrots. The potatoes and carrots were delicious, the steak was rare, like really rare. It also tasted like it was freezer burnt with little to no flavor. I tried a couple bites of it and had to spit it out it made me gag. When the waiter came back towards the end of our meal he asked how everything was. I told him the steak was rare and I couldn't eat it. His response was "I should have told him earlier" when he came to check in on us shortly after dropping off the food. I had not cut into nor tried my steak at that time, also since when is it alright to tell the customer they should have done something and they were in the wrong?!? A simple I'm sorry, can I get you something else or a new one would suffice. He did offer to get me a new one which I declined due to loss of appetite from the bad steak also his comment. Not that I expect to get the steak or anything compt but the least they could have gone was given us a round of drinks or something small. Very pleasantly surprised at this place! Wanted somewhere with decent food and beer before going to the Zoo, and they did not disappoint on anything. Had these little deep fried balls of corned beef that were stellar, and the poutine was soooooo good They even had a pistachio beer that I ordered simply because I knew it would either be the greatest thing ever, or absolutely disgusting, and it was HELLA delicious!!! I've been here several times. It's a pub but has a scratch kitchen. The dressings... the dips... the soups etc are all made in house and I've never been disappointed. The Rueben is awesome - real tender corned beef. Burgers are great brisket and chuck grind. The bartenders are friendly and there are pull tabs behind the bar. I was driving back through Apple Valley and thought I would stop in after driving by numerous times. I looked it up on my phone and it said something about can night Walked in and asked about are their specials. Bartender says it's Happy Hour. Can you please expand? Says drink specials. I mention may I get the can special. Get my PBR. Worst part about my experience was a group with two women and a man. The were talking politics. I can care less. But they were about screaming racial and vulgar innuendos. The two women would make a drunken Sailor blush. The bartender did nothing...they screamed the C word, D word etc. Way out of hand. Enough on this topic. I was drinking my $2 PBR's to save money and watch a little baseball. I asked for a cheap shot. Bartender asks what kind. I said just a cheap whisky. He says what kind. I say a cheap Canadian or Irish shot. Just something cheap, rail is fine. Ask for my tab...my two cheap shots were $6.00 a pop. They were more than my three beers...actually double. That's just lame...I looked at the menu and they had a drink called a beer and a bump. I asked...it was a draft beer and a shot for $6.00. Boy did I get ripped off. No wonder why this place was empty. Screw me over! What a joke!! I'm seriously going to cut my visits to restaurants and bars. Service just sucks. We have been to this place a few times in the past. I have never left a review because this place is fairly new. They're happy hour is somewhat confusing in the fact that they have specials that start at different times. The food has always been good and the drinks are always good as well. Celts owns other properties in the area however this one seems to serve the very best quality food. If you're in Apple Valley I would recommend stopping by this place. This was my first visit to Celts Craft House. It's location is tucked away next to the Grandstay Hotel in Apple Valley. Even though I used GPS, it was difficult to spot. I got to the hotel parking lit just fine but had an inter time finding the restaurant. I think we could genuinely call this a hidden treasure. My friend had the Poutine which was amazingly flavorful and generous. I had the Reuben rolls which were basically a Reuben egg roll served with Thousand Island sauce. Sounds good, yes? Not so much. It was more like a sauerkraut roll with minimal corned beef. It was okay but I certainly won't order it again. They have a varied menu with generous appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, and Irish food such as bangers and mash (which my friend has had before and recommends) and shepherds pie. It's really too bad it's so tucked away and difficult to find. I think it could be a neighborhood gem. We will go back for sure and I'll definitely get poutine to share as well as try some other menu items. Give it a try. I will. read more

I've eaten here many times over the past few years and have never been dissatisfied. The service is typically attentive, the drink selection and quality has been good and the food has been very flavorful. I was recently at Celts with a group of 8 of us. It was early before the rush but after the lunch crowd. Our server was very attentive and everyone truly enjoyed their meals. There were sandwiches, burgers and drinks had by all. The burgers were cooked to perfection. Some ordered their medium while a few ordered theirs medium rare and they came out nicely. The fries were tender yet crunchy and even the cheese curds someone else complained about were done just right. They are not the light airy batter I'm used to but they had plenty of cheese and the crunch was a nice change. Not really sure why people love to complain about establishments like Celts. Sure it's not fancy restaurant but the pricing and fact it called a pub should give that away. The food is better than many fancier restaurants and significantly better than most bars. read more

We have been loyal customers for several years. The food is great and we have had no problems with servers. My complaint is directed toward the owner/managers. I would appreciate some acknowledgement from them when they see us! They should definitely recognize us by this time. I believe one should treat others the way he wants to be treated! My husband and I stopped in last night for dinner. Service was great. The manager greeted us and brought our drinks. The waitress was friendly. She recommended the burgers and the Reuben. I love Reubens, so I opted for that. I was disappointed that they don't offer sweet potato fries, but I settled for the broccoli slaw - $2 upcharge. My husband ordered the shepherd's pie, something he has never tried prior to our visit. Our food came out, and my very picky husband thoroughly enjoyed his meal. I wasn't as pleased with my meal. The sandwich was barely warm - cheese wasn't even melted! Flavor was nonexistent. The sandwich was large and filled with meat. I love broccoli slaw, but this was not tasty. I think they used an oil based dressing, and again, flavor was not good. My husband brought my cold sandwich to the waitress' attention, and she insisted on taking it back to the kitchen. The manager stopped by and apologized and comp'd our drinks. I was brought a fresh sandwich, and it was very hot this time, but it still lacked flavor. Chips were included rather than the slaw. My husband loves salt, and after tasting my chips, his first comment was how salty they were. He wants to go back and asked if I would return. To make him happy, I would go back, but I am not sure that I would attempt their food a second time. I may just drink another diet Pepsi while he enjoys his shepherd's pie. 3 stars because service was good, and my husband enjoyed his meal. My meal alone earns 1 star. read more

There were only 3 people there at 6 on on a Friday night. Even the bartender commented on how slow it was. The appetizer was okay but nothing great and we decided not to order dinner there. If I'm snowed into the hotel I'd eat there again but if your not staying at the grand stay, I would t waste your time or $$ here. read more

Huge disappoint. Went here around 8:30 on a Thursday night. Asked server if there was a happy hour. She didn't know, had to ask. (Answer: no) Reviewed mediocre tap list (not sure what previous reviewer was talking about) and asked about their house Kolsch (made for them by one of the Duluth breweries). Server: "I don't like beer, so I don't know." Wow. Settled for a known commodity instead. I can't believe this place opened with only two local craft brews on tap, and charging 7.25 for a Stella!! Had chips and cheese. Chips were overseasoned, cheese dip was mealy. Ordered a second round, had to send beer back because it tasted off, like unclean lines. Bartender gave me a hard time about it. Basically, they took the old Panino Bros space and redecorated a little bit. There aren't even 1/2 the taps of Crooked Pint or Valley Tap House. Service was horrid. I'm not coming back. read more

Have been anxiously anticipating the opening of Celts for the past few months. Apparently they had a soft open as we never saw any announcement of a grand opening. They significantly remodeled the space from the former Panino Brothers and its a nice improvement. Walked in early on a Saturday evening after noticing it was open and had no problem getting seated immediately in the bar area. Impressive selection of beers on tap. Wife ordered a side salad as an appetizer and there were some bad pieces of lettuce in the salad. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and it was not seasoned particularly well (need salt) but overall not a bad product. I write that all up to be the usual issues that crop up when a place first opens and expect it to improve significantly over the next few weeks. Will be patronizing this place reguarly particularly once it gets colder. Overall a good experience. read more

Ate here for the first time last week at my wife's request. We live in Apple Valley, and she was craving fish and chips. I did not want to deal with the drive into Minneapolis, so we thought we would give Celts a try. I was a bit leery given some of the horrid reviews here, but we really enjoyed our evening. Waited about 15 minutes for a table and had a very attentive server. Started off with the poutine, and it was really flavorful. My wife had the fish and chips, and I had the corned beef sandwich. Both were really good. What I perhaps enjoyed the most was not having to scream to have a conversation. We could actually hear each other, and that is becoming hard to do at most places. read more

We were excited for a new place in AV. Sadly, we were disappointed by this place. I ordered the bangers and mash with the honey carrots. The sausage was supposed to be black pepper sausage, and yes it did taste of black pepper but that is all it tasted like. Very dull. The garlic mash potatoes were also dull. Tasted like all it was was instant potatoes with a little garlic powder. The carrots looked and tasted like frozen carrots that were defrosted then a little honey poor on top that mixed with the water from the defrosting which made a them soupy. My husband order the shepards pie- the taste was meh and it was very soupy why too much liquid and not enough potatoes. My dad ordered the Reuben and he said it was just ok. read more

Never came here before and was excited to try it out. Came in at 1125, we had no idea the bar closes at 12 am...bartender and server stare at us as we sit down with their hands on their head acting so pissed we came in and super dramatic. I asked our server what time they closed and we apologized cause we understand as some of us are servers. We just order ONE drink and on our way. Not one redeeming food item here. Had their "Award Winning" Bloody Mary; awful. It was unflavored, weak, little to no mix. Beef dip was appalling; 1 slice of meat, dry, barely any flavor. The wife and I decided to try something new and we had a $10 coupon to help get us in the door. We ordered the queso dip and it reminded me of the can cheese you'd get at a movie theater. We both had the fish and chips and I was glad I didn't opt for the all you can eat. What was suppose to be beer battered cod looked and tasted like Mrs Pauls frozen fish. Just don't do it. We went here for dinner tonight. The server was friendly, but the food was absolutely awful. Like hospital food awful.

We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon around 2:00 and there were only a few other people there. Most of which were seated at the bar. Our waitress was slow to approach our table. She was even slower to bring our drinks to our table. We waited at least twenty minutes for two tap beers. The waitress seemed to know very little about the beers or drinks. Our food was excellent. My husband loved his burger and everything looked really fresh. We'd go again for the food but never if we were in a rush. There are some really cool beers on tap and interesting cocktails. It is very clean and there were plenty of tv's available so going there to catch a game worked out for us as well. read more

We went to the Mother's Day buffet today. We had a reservation and were seating promptly. The food was wonderful and the staff could not be beat. Our server, Monty, was efficient and had a great sense of humor and the women behind the bar were very accommodating. I highly recommend the place! read more
