I always forget about this spot as it's not in the heart of West Saint Paul. I've been here many times for different gatherings hosted here and it's always a great experience. The large room can hold a number of people for an event like a birthday party, retirement party, or celebration of life. The food served was fantastic this last event I attended. I'm still thinking about the steak slider, wings, and fries. When the food was empty, it was restocked quickly. Food was fresh and pipping hot. Delicious. This neighborhood bar is a hidden gem. We stopped by for the steak dinner and there was a live performer in the party room. He was really good singer too. One man band was doing great, he even rap to a few songs. We ordered the filet mignon but they ran our, so they gave us ribeye instead. Steak was perfectly seasoned. We stopped in on a Monday because they have a $7 burger special. It was a double smash burger with cheese, red onion, lettuce, and tomato plus fries. The burger was cooked perfectly and the fries were piping hot and fresh. We added beers to the meal, and I have to say this was such a good deal and it tasted fantastic. The service was welcoming and attentive. The dining area is kind of small, but they recently added some new booths that are a nice addition to the restaurant. We will definitely be back again to partake in the Monday burger special. It looks like they have some other nightly specials we want to try out in the future (tacos, chicken tenders, pasta, prime rib). This is a great neighborhood bar worth checking out. read more

This is a great place to host any kind of gathering! Service was friendly and prompt, and the spicy burger we had was very good. Two smashed patties with a ghost pepper cheese had a delightful amount of spice and was full of flavor. The fries were great as well, they had to be made fresh in-house to get that kind of texture. I asked about what can I get without MSG and the "hostess" really wasn't very interested in helping me The cook was not wanting to help or even look at ingredients for a paying customer. (Who is a great tipper) The hostess called the owner and they could not offer anything And..... the "hostess" came to me and told me that msg won't affect my asthma. Wow is all I can say, I drove an hour to get a couple drinks and go to the comedy show they hosted with a couple buddy's, yes there shorter but are 22 and 21. She instantly denied us and had a horrible attitude say our ids where fake, then proceeded to get her other co workers and boss to make the whole situation worse. Not bad. I ordered lunch through Door Dash last week and I was mostly satisfied with my order. I ordered the Reuben with waffle fries and Irish cucumber salad on the side. I didn't get the Irish cucumber salad I ordered and was instead given Cole slaw. Bummed because I wanted to try that. The Reuben was fresh and the portion of corned beef was generous. There was a little more fat on it the beef that I would have liked, though. The red cabbage added a nice crunch but as for the aioli, it really should have thousand island on it instead. It was just missing that sweet flavor from the thousand island and tang from the traditional sauerkraut. Waffles fries were good but don't bother with the up charge for seasoned sour cream. With the amount of seasoned sour cream they give you, it should be free. I would go back to try another menu item and dine-in instead of order delivery. read more

My review is not a reflection of the food, which was fine. It reflects our sneaky little server who slapped a gratuity on our bill because we had a "large party". Since when is a PARTY OF FIVE a large party? She ended up with a 40% tip because we didn't look at the receipt until we got home. I just wonder how many unsuspecting customers she pulls this on. I went there this past weekend and got a beer, burger and fries. We had to wait for a good chunk of time before a server came over to our table to take our orders, and then waited more than 30 minutes for our food to arrive. That in itself is understandable - things these days can take a bit more time. But when the food arrived at our table, there was a hair in my fries (it is now on the floor), my burger was over-cooked, and the fries were flimsy (soggy) and had no seasoning. Instead of going to Jamesons, walk north or south on Smith to Capital View or Foodsmith - you'll get better food with friendlier, more attentive staffs. read more

We ordered fried fish during lent for take out, the food order was taken promptly, and the wait was short...but when I went to pick up the food the services was terrible. I felt that I had inconvenienced the bartender, you know the feeling? The communication between staff was terrible, and I honestly feel bad and am worried for them moving forward. The food here is absolutely amazing. We tasted Plain Jane burger, a Classic Rueben and the Irish Twins. Not only were the sandwiches delicious but the sides were also fantastic. Recommended: YES! We held a wedding reception here and everything went smooth - and not because there weren't issues. The day before they worked 3 weddings and had a cleaning crew in by 10:am so we could set up. The staff and owner worked with us every step of the way. They communicated with us so we knew what to expect and delivered what was expected. We gave their brand new event planner, Rebecca, a run for her money, but EVERY SINGLE ISSUE was met with a positive "I'll take care of it" attitude and we absolutely LOVED her! She managed the entire evening and allowed my daughter and I to trust her and enjoy the evening. Any bathroom issue, food issue, cake topper falling issue... were all cleared up or fixed immediately and done so with smiles. I live within walking distance and had not yet tried it so figured I would try it for a late dinner and couple cocktails. Wife and I sat at high top in the bar, 2 couples at the bar, 2 booths having dinner. Awkwardly long time to get a drink when place pretty much empty. "Chef" was sitting at table with an elderly couple but was pretty wrapped up in telling the story of how the restaurant was named to notice us. My wife ordered Ruben and I ordered the chicken sandwich. 20 minutes later ,which again, seemed like a long time the food showed. Oops, they gave me a walleye sandwich instead of chicken. Ok, I guess they look similar. Sent back and the remake took longer than the original order!! My wife was done and I said I no longer wanted the sandwich and the check would b great. 5 minutes later the waiter/bartender said the sandwich was up and hate to see it go to waste. I said the check was fine and I no longer wanted the food. Few minutes later he came back and said they had the food packed up for me along with the check. I walked up to bar to pay and they had charged me 1/2 price for the sandwich. Told the bartender that was pretty dirty for poor service and a sandwich I no longer wanted. I threw sandwich out at home. The bad news- the menu unimpressive and service terrible. You'd think a new place would try harder. My wife & I eat out at restaurants all over the cities more frequently than we eat at home. We live in the area of Jameson's Irish Bar, and have given it more than a fair shake over the last few years. We've always had high hopes walking in to give it another try. The menu LOOKS great, but the food always seems so carelessly prepared, and the quality of ingredients seems so low, that our high hopes are dashed every single time, and we walk out asking ourselves why we didn't pick someplace else. I think the chef is well known in the industry, so for their mediocre food they try to command higher prices. But we think that somewhere along the way their talent totally stopped coming through, in favor of just taking our money, hoping we won't notice how they've cut corners. Well, we notice, and it's no one's fault but the owner's. My wife & I have lived in the area for over 25 years, and drive by Jameson's all the time. While other places in the area are busy & fun, we hardly see anyone at Jameson's. It's obvious why that is. I WOULD say that the owner should start resorting to media & publicity stunts just to get business in the door, but that would be pointless because everyone's experiences would be so underwhelming that no one would ever want to come back anyway. So, if you're ever in West St. Paul looking for a good restaurant/bar with good food, you'll be MUCH happier if you pick anywhere else in the city EXCEPT Jameson's. read more
