Service was good, could have been a little quicker getting us out to make sure we got on the shuttle, but we made it so it worked out fine. read more

You certainly feel like friends/family when they greet you like that! We got the Greek salad with chicken, and chili with all the toppings (sour cream, cheese, onions). Both were top notch delicious. The salad was large, and I took half of it home for another meal. The chicken was grilled well, and I really liked the mixed greens, ample olives, feta, tomato, red onion. I wish there had been some cucumber, but everything else made up for that omission. The chili was not spicy, which was a big plus for my husband's preferences. They have really nice happy hour prices here ($3 off apps and $1 off tap beers). We had been working on the garden, so this was a nice ending to our day. read more

Time to update Joseph's Grill as I've only been here for happy hour specials a few times over the years. Looking at lunch on a Monday, and I'm grateful they are open on Monday, I was in the area and had to stop in. Glad I did, the only coffee and pie I had in mind was quickly erased for a Grilled Chicken Sandwich. Chef's Kiss to this very tender chicken and soft bun. The sandwich is thick and there are some sides to choose. Hoping to never have to see a french fry again I had the Cole slaw. A very creamy and rich blend. Back to the wich, juicy, in a good way, not overwhelming in taste. Their coffee was fresh, although not gourmet brew but I would assume restaurant service coffee which the server kept stopping by top off. We had to flag someone down to get ketchup, hot sauce, and a drink refill. I really enjoyed my omelette but I wish the hash browns were crispier, but that's just a personal preference. Ample parking, easily accessible right off the highway, Joseph's is a Saint Paul delight. I called in at 11:15 am to make a reservation for 6 people for 11:30 am and they were able to accommodate us, and for that we are super grateful for. The service was good when we got there. This was my first time and the ambiance is great for a quick lunch spot. Looking at the bar area, am sure the place can get packed during evening hours. Menu is not super extensive but that's great, then they can focus on quality vs quantity. Typical bar food items. We ordered a bunch a of different items, including burgers, ruben, beef tips and chicken sandwich and everything tasted ok. The fries were really good, thoroughly enjoyed those. read more

As you walk in the restaurant was clean.I was greeted by waitress with a smile.She riddled of breakfast favorites and encouraged me that I wouldn't be disappointed.Very knowledgeable. I decided to go with a local favorite,the country fried steak with American potatoes and sourdough for toast.The meal was hearty,making me feel like I was back at grandmas house on that occasional visit from college.Grandma would always fill me up since she knew things were tight and ramen was a common meal. Great job on the portions! The flavors were okay and typical,I was filled up. There was music playing in the background and several screens so I could catch up on the news and the games from the previous night.I came in right at 7 but the usuals started to trickle and as they were called by name and asked if they were getting the usual. Had breakfast here. I had the Chorizo & Eggs. It was ok. The chorizo was cooked with the scrambled eggs. I guess I was expecting the eggs to be fluffier?? The American potatoes were kinda soggy and not crispy. I've had something like this elsewhere (Keys Cafe) and it was amazing. So I guess I was expecting more. Joseph's Grill, St. Paul - 11/2/2024 Joseph's Grill has been a beloved fixture in St. Paul since moving to its Wabasha Street location in June 2001, after nearly 15 years on Concord and State Streets. We've enjoyed countless breakfasts and lunches here over the years. Today, we ordered several favorites: The Italian Sausage, featuring a savory Italian sausage patty, two eggs, potatoes, and toast ($13.75); the Denver Omelette, loaded with ham, green pepper, onion, and cheese ($14.50); the Cajun Breakfast, which includes Andouille sausage, peppers, onions, cheddar cheese, American fries with Cajun seasoning, and two eggs, all topped with hollandaise sauce ($15.25); and the Belgian Waffle, served with fresh strawberries and whipped cream ($11.25). My husband consistently orders the Italian Sausage, which he can't get enough of. For an extra kick, I recommend adding a squeeze of lemon to the patty--it's outstanding! The Belgian Waffle is simply perfect; it's light and doesn't tear the roof of your mouth. The fresh strawberries and whipped cream complement it beautifully, and I prefer it dusted with powdered sugar rather than syrup. The ambiance at Joseph's Grill is inviting, making it a place I keep returning to. Highly recommended! Don't forget to ask for Hime (pronounced Hi Me) - sorry about the spelling. I do not take leaving bad reviews lightly but this definitely warrants one. We made a trip out for breakfast here at Joseph's after hearing good things about thier breakfast and it all started out great. We were greated and seated immediately then we were assigned to a high top with our server nicole. Were were told wait times were longer than normal and were were fine with that. We started out with coffee and water and after 20 minutes wait we were asked if we wanted a refill on the coffee. I agreed because I was tired and need a pick me up. Well you should watch what you ask for because before you know it I get hot coffee poured all over my hand and table. I got a quick I'm sorry and well we sat there thinking our server would go get a rag or something to clean up the mess but well she never came back or cared about the mess. You figure you just poured hot coffee all over someone's hand that you would get it cleaned up and be concerned that someone would be filing a law suit but nope she seemed to busy to care. The burns were not bad it was not like the McDonald's incident but my hand did turn red. My hand has very minor pain that will most likly go away in a day but well if you go here wear thick thermal gloves when you ask for coffee. The coffee was not even good it tasted like someone made coffee and reused the coffee grounds to make coffee again to save money. After 43 minutes the food came out. Then the fun starts because you would expect after 43 minutes of waiting your food would be good. Well nope that was not the case. My other half got the totally wrong order and it looked like they scrambled to make it as quick as possible. She got the Joseph's special and there was nothing special about it. The pancakes were gigantic and looked cooked on the outside until she tried to cut them. After sawing though what was almost as hard as lumber she was surprised to find that the pancakes were not even cooked properly and the inside was soft and gooey like a marshmallow or like a gushers candy. Then the scrambled eggs tasted like layers of paper glued together. Her sussage patty was bland and no flavor whatsoever and had some sort of force field around then because the knife could not penetrate its mithril armor. I ordered the eggs Benedict with hashbrowns. My hashbrowns were cooked well on the outside but with no seasoning whatsoever and to top it off we didn't even get salt or pepper or any condements at out table and nicole didn't even offer. The inside once I peired the outer shell of the hashbrowns was uncooked. The potatoes were nice and crispy and tasted like grated raw potatoes leaving a starchy taste in my mouth. I was thirsty but well I didn't bring them thermal gloves and as they say "the dog only bites once" so I rather drink my spit. My eggs were good at least but the sauce tasted like it came out of a bagged then microwaved. The "meat" product inside made me have to check to make sure I was on Wabasha and not fleet street. Nicole was quick to bring the bill though and luckily I had cash so we could leave the money and drive out of there like a bat out of hell. I would never recommend this place to my friends and if I did recommend it so someone I would need to really hate them. If I could give this place 0 stars I would and if management wishes to contact me well you can. But I just wanted to bring awareness of how bad the food is and how they have 0 regards to the safety or well-being of the customers. I did not want to be the crazy Hispanic making a scene after looking around. I figured I would just leave a bad review. read more

Came here for Sunday brunch. One of the big reasons we chose the place was because of the brunch drink specials. We know that during the pandemic restaurant staffing has been light, but at this point restaurants should probably communicate around that which is why I have given them 2 stars instead of one. They were not incredibly full, but it took a while for our waiter to bring menus, and even longer for them to bring back water and take our first drink order. It took quite a while to get anything delivered to the table during most of the meal. I don't mind slower service and kitchen time if the food is amazing. This food was sub-par at best. I had the Lamb and eggs. The potatoes were under-seasoned. I would be surprised if the chef told me there was salt on the potatoes. What was most disappointing was that the eggs and lamb had no distinctive flavors. I let the table try pieces of the lamb and asked what the flavor was. We all agreed that it was "meat". We could only taste the meat when actually picked out of the eggs. When i say taste, had i not known it was lamb i would have guessed 2 or three other meats before landing there. After driving past Joseph's for the last three years heading toward W 7th or Grand Avenue for lunch, a friend asked why we had never gone there for lunch. My husband is a lover of traditional breakfast, so he tried it out first and was thrilled that there was an option so close to our office and was not Denny's or Perkins. The real test for me was lunch. First impression-the space is HUGE. And clean! A friendly hostess greets you and you're led to your table. Very busy space, lots of female clientele. I only mention the gender of the patrons because in my experience, women are fussier about the quality of food than men. So if I see several groups of ladies, I can usually count on a decent meal. Sexist? No. Trust me, this formula has never let me down. There's a restaurant near my house that I won't name (or review) because the food tastes like it was cooked by someone with no taste buds, and with eyes that are bigger than the average customer's stomach. Everything seems like it is flavored with ranch powder. No thanks! My friend urged me to try the taco salad, but the fish tacos caught my eye since they have an option to cook them blackened, baked or battered. Nice! I can't stand fish tacos battered, so I went with blackened and was thrilled that there was a pleasant little kick and loved the avocado crema served on the side. Perfect! My husband really enjoyed the meatloaf and was happy it wasn't overly salty. I've tried several of the soup of the day offerings and enjoyed each of them. Everything here is homemade, and it shows. Our server, Nicole, was fast and super friendly. My husband, the interrogator, asked how long she had worked there and her reply was 30 years! We were both impressed and her answer was simple, Joseph was an incredible boss and she loved working there. We've questioned several other servers and heard the same tales of longevity. And maybe that's all you need to know about this restaurant. It's clean, comfortable and has a menu with something for everyone. When the staff expresses their admiration for their boss in such strong terms, and has decades of seniority...well, that speaks volumes. read more

This is a delayed review from March 5, 2020. Joseph has changed ownership recently within the last couple of years. This is the second time I've been back with the new ownership. I was greeted promptly and asked if I preferred a table or a booth. I came with two other friends for lunch and decided on a table. I ordered the regular burger with pepper jack cheese, substitute fries for a side salad, and added an easyover egg. I also asked for a side of mayonnaise; I didn't realized there was a charge for it until I saw the bill. The salad tasted fresh. To prevent myself from eating a lot of extra calories, I dipped my fork into the ranch sauce with every bite. I recommend eating an easyover egg with the hamburger, at least once if you have never tried it. Yes, it was messy; with my first bite, the yolk oozed out from all sides. I used up all my napkins to wipe the excess from my face. The service was a lot better from the time prior. The server checked in to make sure we have everything we needed. I was very full at the end of lunch. Definitely would be back again. read more

I've blown by this place countless times on my bike over the years (it's at the bottom of a down-sloping bridge) without giving it much thought. It's huge and has a large surface lot, so I'm guessing they lean heavily on event traffic from Xcel events in the non-COVID times. But, I saw a Facebook post for their Lebanese special and it looked appealing enough, so I thought I'd give it a shot. First, the logistics. Everything about the order was super easy. I pre-ordered the night before, they took my credit card number and I selected a pick-up time. When I showed up at the restaurant, a masked staff member welcomed me into the lobby. My food was brought out, and the order was accurate. Great experience there. (FYI, if you want to tip - and you should - do it by phone when you order. I'm guessing that given the time lapse between order and pick-up, they can't adjust the receipt the following day. Lesson learned.) So the food. Quality and value to me are fairly intertwined. I've had amazing food at places I'd never return to because it's a poor value. There are also places that are a great value where the food is awful. This meal scores reasonably well on both accounts. First, it's a lot of food. The two kebabs are enormous. (I'm cribbing their picture here but aside from the plating, it's representative of what I got. This isn't some five-star ninja work by a food stylist where your food looks nothing like the picture.) So they didn't skimp on the proteins, for sure. I'm not a dainty person and I'm getting two meals out of this. Both the chicken and the steak were well cooked. The steak probably ended up slightly past medium, the chicken was tender with nice char. Peppers and onions, no other veggies. I did think the kebabs were underseasoned. They'd benefit from a more present spice rub or marinade. Even something as basic as more salt would've gone a long way. Now that said, this isn't a super hard problem to correct when you're taking the food home. And so whatever points I'm taking off, I'll give some back because it's at least a correctable issue. I'd much rather this than perfectly-seasoned meat that's cooked to death - which in my experience, when kebabs go wrong in a restaurant setting, is the more likely sin. The flat bread is just kind of meh. I'd swap it for pita, which is then easy enough to elevate by throwing on a grill for a bit. (You guys are already using the grill!) The rice is good - it's an almond rice pilaf, good bite, nicely seasoned, not gluey. Garlic sauce was solid, tabbouleh was well-balanced with some nice acid. Would I repeat? Yeah, all things considered. This goes back to the value equation. To me, this was a solid 3-star, $18 dinner. But judging it as two $9 meals gets it the fourth star. And there's fifth-star potential here by just being more forward with the seasoning and not treating the bread like an afterthought. read more

I've been happy with all of my trips to Joseph's, and I'd love to go back more, but they're kind of on the back burner as an option. The food and service has always been great, but the atmosphere can be a little...depressing. The restaurant is wayyyyyy too big for the amount of foot traffic they have and although they try to liven it up with bright lights and TVs, you still feel oddly alone in a fairly empty restaurant. It's tucked away down below the West Side Bluffs so I think it gets forgotten. I'm not sure why it's been as dead as it has been when I'm there. I've only ever gone on the weekend (for lunch and dinner) and it's never that busy. The food and service is good, though! I wonder if people feel the same as I do about the ambiance and they choose to go somewhere with more energy. Joseph's would be a more frequent choice if they had a better location. That's it. This restaurant happened to be just down the street from where I had a short term work assignment and so I ended up eating here frequently for lunch and was able to eat the following meals: French dip sandwich, taco salad, mushroom Swiss burger, and fish tacos. I would rank them like this 1 mushroom Swiss burger - cooked perfectly and flavorful despite no sauce on it; 2 fish tacos (got them beer battered) good flavor and cooked well with a good amount of fish and the salsa and sauce that goes with them is very tasty; 3 French dip enjoyable with plenty of thinly sliced prime rib but the au jus was pretty salty; 4 taco salad lacked flavor and was pretty cold and somehow the beef got thoroughly over cooked too. Overall the service is very attentive and the food comes out consistently fast and hot. read more
