The matcha cream had a rich, bold flavor, which was a huge plus. The café is bright and inviting, with plenty of natural light that makes it a cozy place to catch up with friends. Service was quick and easy. We ordered at the counter and found our own seats. It's also just a short walk from the lake, making it a great stop before or after a stroll. Parking was a bit challenging to find, but it was worth it. They also offer a variety of sandwiches and salads, so I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. read more

Brim is such a cute little coffee shop! After taking a walk around Lake Calhoun, my boyfriend and I stopped in for lattes. I ordered the Banana Bread Latte, and it was really good! We didn't end up trying any of the food since it was a little pricier than we were looking for, but everything looked delicious. I had a wonderful silly scuttle over. I waited for a bus that wouldn't show up, and decided to make the day magical. This spot was just what I needed to cheer me up! Delicious. I got the umami bowl and a friend got the salmon bowl. Everything was bright and well balanced and SO fresh. Service was perfect for a cafe. They seemed to be out of quite a few things, and only realized parts of it after we had ordered. They were LOVELY in their offer for substitutions, but it seemed they may have a stocking issue as they were also out of a number of things on the menu. We split the white chocolate macadamia nut cookie and it was the crispiest gf cookie I've ever had - SO good!!! I also tried the donut, which I wouldn't really call a donut - it was more of a cake in the shape of a donut. Very good! But not a donut. The space itself is cozy while still being light and airy, the music very neutral and at a good volume. I genuinely love the food and the coffee here, which is the only reason I keep coming back. Everything I've tried has been delicious, fresh, and consistently good. Unfortunately, the customer service is a completely different story. I've visited both locations multiple times, hoping maybe it was just a one-time experience, but it's been consistently disappointing. The girls working the front always seem annoyed that customers exist. No greeting, no smile, no basic friendliness--just attitudes that make you feel like you're inconveniencing them by ordering. It's honestly confusing because the quality of the food deserves so much better. A coffee shop should feel welcoming, but instead it feels like you're interrupting someone's bad day every single time. I've worked in customer service before, so I understand everyone has off days, but when it's the same experience across different visits and different locations, it starts to feel like it's part of the culture. I shouldn't leave feeling uncomfortable after spending my money somewhere I genuinely enjoy. The food and coffee deserve 5 stars, but the service makes it really hard to recommend this place. I really hope management pays attention because a little kindness and professionalism would completely transform the experience. They also need to start filling up their drinks a lil bit more when you ask for light ice, doesn't mean that they need to put less milk. read more

The interior sets good expectations of bright and fun, matching the energy of its location. When it comes to food, if you're ever unsure what to pick, just throw a dart at the rice bowl options blindfolded and go with where it lands, since I have yet to try a bad one. I went with the Umami Rice Bowl this time, which was packed with fresh, intricate, organic ingredients that absolutely erupt with flavor. The staff are also incredibly friendly and sweet. I went to Brim for one lunch for one of my friend's birthdays! It is located near Bde Maka Ska, and they have a patio area which I'm sure would be nice in the summer after a day at the lake! They have plenty of indoor seating, which is what we did. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, and everything is gluten free! The staff is knowledgeable about the ingredients in the food. I had the umami rice bowl (which is vegetarian). It had a nice blend of textures, from the crunch of the broccoli, to the chew of miso mushroom and the runny yolk in the poached egg. Red chili oil is one of the components of the bowl, but it is very mild. The dish overall felt very fresh and light. It's a nice lunch spot for a nutritious, whole-foods option! read more

Loved the patio and ambiance. Parking wasn't too bad on a weekday lunch. The counter service/table service combo was very confusing. I was asked what table I'm sitting at when I went to order. So I kind just looked outside and said- the one on the corner? The tables outside had numbers. It seems you're supposed to grab a number then take it inside to let the person taking your order know where to drop off the food. I had the mushroom toast. Pretty tasty! Much rooms were perfectly done. A little too much cumin for my taste though. Lastly- it was not clear at all if you're supposed bus your own tables? One table of two awkwardly carried in their beer glass, empty can, wine glass, along with the carafe of water and glasses, plus their bowls, and plates, and their cholua. Visited with a large group of family (made a reservation using Google assistant calling for me which was kind of strange but worked out for us). The place itself is cute although slightly harder to access depending on where you're coming from. Parking may take a bit of time to because at times there can be limited spots. The place itself was super cute and people who worked there were very kind and accommodating of our group's needs. I got the lemongrass curry and added chicken. The curry itself was like a 3/5 or so-decent flavor but coconut milk flavor was slightly overwhelming and the chicken was in rather large chunks which put me off it a bit. BUT I do have to say that this place for my cousin who is gluten free and dairy free was a godsend and that she was visibly excited at being able to have so many options to pick from on the menu. Felt super excited to check out Brim with my sister who is GF. Went on a Sunday morning around 9:15am and there were already a few folks inside. At first glance, the location and ambiance is everything I enjoy. It was bright, clean, and a gorgeous space! You order at the counter and can take a seat inside or outside. I ordered a miel (this was the most delicious thing I had, I'd get this again) and a breakfast sandwich. We also ordered the pesto chicken and the pulled beef. I've heard such wonderful things about Brim, so I couldn't wait to dig in. I feel sad to say but the food was just about inedible. The slaw should be removed immediately. It is truly awful. The sandwiches were below mediocre. I understand it is difficult to make focaccia GF but the texture was way off, it lacked flavor, and really missed the mark. I would be willing to try a few other things on the menu, but the sandwiches and slaw are a hard pass for me. read more

Cute, neat, restaurant. I had the matcha tea and the Linda's Bowl which was a very generous size. The Salmon was way too salty but I did not bother to say anything to the staff. The other items like the beets, cauliflower, broccoli, local greens, and roasted sweet potatoes were fresh. The wild rice was a little too grainy and felt like it could have been cooked a little more to soften the grains. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this restaurant, as the service was the most inefficient and poor I have experienced. We arrived during lunch hours and admittedly it was busy. After 15 minutes, however, our position in line did not move at all. We then decided to order online instead, and simply come back when the order was ready as we lived only 5 - 10 minutes away. I returned later after receiving notification that our order was ready. There was no signage for pickup orders but I found that there were at least 10 of us congregating around the checkout all of us with online orders already paid simply waiting for pickup. No one was helping us or even making eye contact. Several times I enquired but was told I just had to wait. I ended up having to wait over 30 minutes just to pick up an order that was ready despite the fact that it turned out the order was sitting in the refrigerator less than 5 feet where I was standing. A restaurant that is entirely gluten-free! What?! Oh, yeah! :) Plus some nice vegetarian options, and they are organic as much as possible. So, I like bowls (rice/grain bowls - that is their main focus) and soup just fine, but sandwiches on gluten-free focaccia bread that is made in-house? Sign me up!!! So, I ordered the Veggie Sandwich (with avocado, beets, hummus and pesto), and it did not disappoint! The focaccia was light and flavorful, and it didn't fall apart too much like many gluten free breads do. The flavors all worked well together, too. I got a side salad as well, and it was a nice simple salad with good greens. My husband got a side of sweet potatoes with his sandwich - they're roasted and good, but more food than we needed. We could have done with just a sandwich each and splitting one side. So, here you order at the counter and seat yourself, then they bring you your food. That seems to be the way a lot of places are going, even for more upscale-type restaurants. It's a small restaurant with only a few tables inside, and a few more outside, although the floor to ceiling glass doors were opened, so it all blended together, which was nice. Came here with my friends for a quick midday lunch. The seating area was cute. You ordered up at the counter and the. They brought your food to you - both indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered the Linda's bowl. I got a small and while it was a decent amount of food, the bike they served it in was difficult to eat out of. Wish it would have been wider. The sweet potatoes were cooked very well. The rice was okay, and the salmon was delicious. The dressing felt kind of watery and didn't have that much flavor, would have preferred something thicker. 3/5 stars because decent overall but $22 after tax for my bowl was pretty pricey given the portion size and quality. If you check in at brunch time, you do get a free coffee though so check that out! read more

And it all looked SO fresh and unprocessed. Healthy options. I'm sure the location is great during the summer, and then the patio can also be utilized. Cute inside. Downsides: -paper menus not up-to-date. Thankfully I extensively studied the online menu and called in advance, so I double-checked that an ingredient I needed removed was usually included, despite what physical menu said. Important to keep updated when catering to food sensitivities! -the service wasn't friendly. They weren't rude but uninterested/disengaged the day I went. -prices are high. Worth it for options. Also a note: they don't accept the Yelp coupon for free coffee with brunch purchase. States they never even created it and don't know where it came from. I hope the restaurant has done due diligence to reach out to Yelp and fix that. Could some of those negatives result in less that 4 stars? Yes. But it's also a rare gem for those who can't eat out most places, and the deliciousness/creativity of the food is a big deal. And they are issues that are redeemable. read more

I have only tried Brim at the MN State Fair. I was excited to finally visit their location in Minneapolis, MN. They do not have a parking lot. You can do paid parking on Lake St or find a free spot on one of the side streets. This is on the corner of Lake and Knox. It was a bit of a rainy morning, but they were still able to have their doors open which let in a nice breeze. The vibe is really bright and cute inside. The menu is focused on local, organic, & even plant-based items. For some reason I expected them to have a larger coffee menu. They only had a few things listed or ordered. They also have smoothies, alcoholic beverages, and tea/kombucha. I ordered the Turmeric Ginger Latte - this was definitely good, but there was more foam than drink when It came down to it. I tried my friend's Iced Dirty Chai and that was FANTASTIC! Boujee Benedict - The menu states runny poached eggs, searched salmon, dill cashew cream sauce on focaccia. 1st the poached egg yolks were cooked all the way through- and one of the whites was runny. The salmon was delish, I loved the dill cashew cream sauce as well. I would definitely try this again and just ask them to make sure the poached eggs have that runny yolk because I do love a good runny yolk. The focaccia was awesome and so soft/flaky. I would like to come back during lunch time and try a different menu item for sure. Many things sound good. read more

My first ever review, but necessary. This place was terrible. Had the "Franks Chicken" sandwich. It was so greasy both halves fell apart in my hands with grease dripping off my fingers. The taste was OK, but nothing special. It was way overpriced at greater than $50 (not including tip) for two (small) sandwich plates. I think we were paying for "ambiance." We were bothered by fly's, but didn't think much of it until we went to clean our table and discovered why there were fly's. The trays were more than overloaded with dirty dishes, (had trouble putting ours in) and the trash can was literally overflowing...had to take a bunch of napkins to cover and force trash down into the container so I could put ours in. It was not particularly busy, so why this condition existed is unknown. Will not return. read more

I even moved the trash can against the door and people kept blowing through that! Wow! This is a hidden gem! I love how everything is so healthy and gluten free but doesn't sacrifice on taste. The gluten free banana bread is rich and decadent. I got the chicken pesto melt and the bread was amazing! The sandwich was loaded with kimchee and tons of flavor. I've been back a few times and I'm impressed by different items on the menu. This is a great location next to the lake, high quality gluten free food plus wine options. The prices are high however, for example two smoothies and two donuts came to $36.00. The donut wasn't dry and had great flavor. I still like Sift best for GF baked goods at lower prices. read more
