Large cafe right off of Grand Ave. There is street parking available and paid parking at a nearby ramp. The bathroom requires a code to enter but you can get the code at the register when you pay. If you are only getting cakes and coffee you can order from a separate register on one side of the cafe. You can order cakes by the slice or whole. The tres leches cake is phenomenal -- it's super moist and creamy, while still being pretty light. There is plenty of seating over on this side of the cafe. Their chocolate cake is moist and so rich. Their espresso is fantastic. On the other side of the cafe is food served cafeteria style. You grab a tray and go down the line. You can order a salad sampler and get smaller portions of 2-3 salads for the same price as one salad. The portions are extremely generous. Salad comes with a bread roll, and the focaccia cheese one is great! The caesar pasta salad was on the blander side, but I really enjoyed the crisp fresh veggies in the peanut vegetables salad. 40 years and still going strong -no surprise. They have a "to go" only section which I believe was part of an expansion a few years back before I left the Twin Cities. Deep Chocolate Flourless (very similar to what I remember as Michael's Fudge) and Toll house Torte-a favorite that happened to be available during my visit on the same day-what great luck to have the Toll house as this one is on rotation. I also saw the Turtle Cake was still around as well German Chocolate cake-two that don't disappoint. They have salads, sandwiches and of course coffee but it has always been about the dessert for me. Honestly I have been here for the past 8-9 years including during the pandemic so I don't know why I have not given it a review yet, but suffice it to say that for someone like me who doesn't even really eat cake, I will come here specifically for cake. That's how good they are. Before and after the pandemic, their cake quality has stayed consistent. They also publish on their website what cakes they have everyday in addition to the 9 types that are available everyday, so that those that really enjoy a special item can plan ahead. I took photos of some of the items that I have traditionally ordered the most, both before and after the pandemic, but I would also recommend the classic vanilla cheesecake and the turtle cake, which are not pictured. In addition to cake, their hot food is also pretty good, with various options of soup and bread available for a reasonable price and pizzas baked fresh next door near the register where one would order or pick up whole cakes. Prices have increased over the years and for some reason the pizza doesn't taste as fresh (both the basil and the mozzarella), and looks a bit smaller, which might be my illusion. That doesn't change the fact that this establishment is worth a 5 in my book, though. I have had this on my list for some time and am so glad I was finally able to visit. I met a former colleague here for a lunch to catch up. The cafeteria style line has you grab a tray and head to a salad, sandwich, or soup section. I chose one of the ready made salads. It was called Feta Festival (or something like that) and it was delicious. More like an authentic Greek salad, it had chickpeas, cucumbers, red onion, olives and some other items I'm probably forgetting. So good! I stepped to the soup section to get a crusty piece of St Paul Sour Dough bread. We sat upstairs with lots of windows and bright light. Staff was helpful and worked to move the long line along as quick as possible. Parking was an adventure as it usually is in this area of St Paul. I found a spot that was only a block and a half away. You can start with desserts and bakery items, wander down to sandwiches and salads, and keep going until you're eyeing personal or shareable pizzas. Everything we tried was fresh and genuinely tasty, and the service was excellent throughout. It is on the pricey side, but that feels like the standard upscale St. Paul premium for the ambiance and prime location. The only real hiccup was the soda situation. Drinks should either be self-serve or come in larger glasses, since having to return to the counter for refills breaks the flow a bit. Overall, it's absolutely worth the visit and we'll be back to try more. It's been a long time since I've been to Cafe Latte and it seems it's only to pick up a raspberry torte cake to bring to family functions. While we were there, we tried their mixed berries cobbler. A little more tart but still delish. A nice balance of sweet from the crust and tart from the berries. Service was ok. Didn't seem excited to serve us. Stopped in Cafe Latte on a dreary blustery early Friday evening. I was hopeful that there would some chicken wild rice soup but unfortunately there wasn't any. The line wasn't very long so we were able to order some pasta right away, I sampled two kinds for settling on the Caesar pasta salad. I just get a regular coffee and then get refills while I'm there because I want to sit and chill and talk to people for a while. I ordered the large portion of the Thai Coconut Chicken soup for my dine-in entree. The soup had a good spice level to it and a lot of textures. I would definitely order it again. I ordered two desserts to take home. The slice of Strawberry-Rhubarb cheesecake was disappointing. I expected more. The strawberry-rhubarb was nothing but the sauce/icing on top of the cheesecake; I epxected the strawberries and rhubarb to be IN the cheesecake. I didn't recall much of a rhubarb taste at all. My second dessert was a slice of the Raspberry Cream Torte. This was a bit better. There was some raspberry flavor in the cream, but again a majority of the raspberry flavor was the topping on the torte. The service was excellent at all levels. From the folks behind the counter preparing the food to the cashiers and finally the busboy on the second level. My visit was during Mother's Day so the restaurant may have been a bit busier than normal, but that did not stop all of the crew from being friendly, smiling, and going above and beyond courteous. It was Mother's Day and the place was lively. The place was pretty filled with diners and I was a bit concered about finding a place for one person to sit. By the time I reached the top of the stairs to the second floor there was a two-seat table seemingly just for me.
