The turtle cake...divine! I typically don't love a chocolate cake, but do enjoy turtle (pecan, caramel and chocolate) flavored desserts. My group and I came later on a Friday night and this place was so busy - there was a line out the door to order. However, we were able to swing around to the back counter and ordered with no wait, and were able to find a table near the live music. The cake was divine and I would have loved to try other flavors - or something from their entree menu. This is a cool vibe and it looks like they have a teaching kitchen in the back. read more

Stopped in on a Saturday and were lucky to find free street parking right across the street. There was a line when we arrived, which shows how popular this place is, but service moved efficiently and didn't feel slow at all. We came for the sweet treats, but they have so much more to offer. I ordered the mango blueberry cheesecake and a cortado. The cheesecake was pretty solid, and the cortado was decent as well but nothing special. My husband ordered the raspberry chocolate cake and enjoyed it, although we both felt it was a bit too sweet because of the fudge layer, which was a little overwhelming for our taste. The café itself is spacious and made for a nice spot to sit, relax, and enjoy dessert for a while. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and would definitely come back to try more of their delicious treats. read more

I absolutely love Cafe Latte! Yes, their prices honestly could be a little lower, but they always deliver the same awesome quality when it comes to their food and desserts. Their cake is my favorite - they have the BEST tres leches cake and they have such a yummy cheesecake. Their soups are also my all time favorite when I want to go there for a meal. Service is always great and pretty fast. Even when there is a long line, it does typically go away pretty quickly. The vibes are always great here, no matter what the season is and there is lots of seating available. read more

Large cafe right off of Grand Ave. There is street parking available and paid parking at a nearby ramp. The bathroom requires a code to enter but you can get the code at the register when you pay. If you are only getting cakes and coffee you can order from a separate register on one side of the cafe. You can order cakes by the slice or whole. The tres leches cake is phenomenal -- it's super moist and creamy, while still being pretty light. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is plenty of seating over on this side of the cafe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their chocolate cake is moist and so rich. Their espresso is fantastic. On the other side of the cafe is food served cafeteria style. You grab a tray and go down the line. You can order a salad sampler and get smaller portions of 2-3 salads for the same price as one salad. The portions are extremely generous. Salad comes with a bread roll, and the focaccia cheese one is great! The caesar pasta salad was on the blander side, but I really enjoyed the crisp fresh veggies in the peanut vegetables salad. Vanilla tres leche is a crowd favorite but salted caramel tres leche is up there. A 10 inch cake is around $60, the only size the caramel tres leche comes in. Street parking is available but not ample. There's a paid parking lot across the street next to their bread and chocolate building. read more

Look what I got for my birthday. This is my family's favorite cake place and our main go to. I always get this chocolate buttercream slice. The lemon torte and the tarts are the next in line. I recently tried the classic cheesecake and that was just as delicious. So many options so satisfy every taste; chocolate, sour/tart and fruity. They also have main food options. My wedding party and I stopped here in between dress shopping stops and it was a hit! Cafe Latte is always a good idea but especially with a group in a bit of a time crunch. Everyone can get what they want and split a dessert at that. We arrived a little before noon and that was perfect timing, there was a line after we left. Our table was promptly cleaned and the staff were very helpful with questions about the menu. Will be back! read more

40 years and still going strong -no surprise. They have a "to go" only section which I believe was part of an expansion a few years back before I left the Twin Cities. Deep Chocolate Flourless (very similar to what I remember as Michael's Fudge) and Toll house Torte-a favorite that happened to be available during my visit on the same day-what great luck to have the Toll house as this one is on rotation. I also saw the Turtle Cake was still around as well German Chocolate cake-two that don't disappoint. They have salads, sandwiches and of course coffee but it has always been about the dessert for me. Honestly I have been here for the past 8-9 years including during the pandemic so I don't know why I have not given it a review yet, but suffice it to say that for someone like me who doesn't even really eat cake, I will come here specifically for cake. That's how good they are. Before and after the pandemic, their cake quality has stayed consistent. They also publish on their website what cakes they have everyday in addition to the 9 types that are available everyday, so that those that really enjoy a special item can plan ahead. I took photos of some of the items that I have traditionally ordered the most, both before and after the pandemic, but I would also recommend the classic vanilla cheesecake and the turtle cake, which are not pictured. In addition to cake, their hot food is also pretty good, with various options of soup and bread available for a reasonable price and pizzas baked fresh next door near the register where one would order or pick up whole cakes. Prices have increased over the years and for some reason the pizza doesn't taste as fresh (both the basil and the mozzarella), and looks a bit smaller, which might be my illusion. That doesn't change the fact that this establishment is worth a 5 in my book, though. Whenever I have friends visiting from out of town and wants to try cake, this would be the first place I bring them to. read more

I have had this on my list for some time and am so glad I was finally able to visit. I met a former colleague here for a lunch to catch up. The cafeteria style line has you grab a tray and head to a salad, sandwich, or soup section. I chose one of the ready made salads. It was called Feta Festival (or something like that) and it was delicious. More like an authentic Greek salad, it had chickpeas, cucumbers, red onion, olives and some other items I'm probably forgetting. So good! I stepped to the soup section to get a crusty piece of St Paul Sour Dough bread. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat upstairs with lots of windows and bright light.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff was helpful and worked to move the long line along as quick as possible. Parking was an adventure as it usually is in this area of St Paul. I found a spot that was only a block and a half away. No worries walking on such a beautiful afternoon. Great experience. read more

It's been a long time since I've been to Cafe Latte and it seems it's only to pick up a raspberry torte cake to bring to family functions. While we were there, we tried their mixed berries cobbler. A little more tart but still delish. A nice balance of sweet from the crust and tart from the berries. Service was ok. Didn't seem excited to serve us. It was nice that they called to confirm that we are still coming to pick up our pre ordered cake. Stopped in Cafe Latte on a dreary blustery early Friday evening. I was hopeful that there would some chicken wild rice soup but unfortunately there wasn't any. The line wasn't very long so we were able to order some pasta right away, I sampled two kinds for settling on the Caesar pasta salad. I added tomatoes and cracked black pepper which added a little flavor. Overall I think cafe latte is best for dessert but I'm never super impressed with the food. Cafe Latte is tucked inside a massive building off Grand Ave, and from the outside you'd never guess how much is happening under one roof. Inside, the space unfolds into multiple sections. You can start with desserts and bakery items, wander down to sandwiches and salads, and keep going until you're eyeing personal or shareable pizzas. Everything we tried was fresh and genuinely tasty, and the service was excellent throughout. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is on the pricey side, but that feels like the standard upscale St. Paul premium for the ambiance and prime location.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The only real hiccup was the soda situation. Drinks should either be self-serve or come in larger glasses, since having to return to the counter for refills breaks the flow a bit. Overall, it's absolutely worth the visit and we'll be back to try more. Final verdict: come hungry, bring your wallet, and be prepared to accidentally eat your way through the entire building like it's a very delicious maze. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Absolute best place in the cities to meet friends for lunch or holiday get together.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Free parking all over the place as long as you're going to walk a little ways I always park on the streets. I just get a regular coffee and then get refills while I'm there because I want to sit and chill and talk to people for a while. They have some of the most amazing cakes and baked goods around my mom has a recipe that she got from there that she makes every year for people's birthdays but I also go in person and meet friends there before things get you in our Christmas every year. I would also recommend trying their fresh salad bar everything from green leafy salads to the tuna or pasta salads and throw in one of their pizzas for an amazing lunch or dinner. read more

We've been coming here since the 1990s, but after the last two visits we're done. The food is still wonderful, but we were so totally ignored by the 5+ servers behind the counter even though we were the only ones at the counter. This happened the last time we were here as well, and both times once we got someone's attention we felt like it was an inconvenience that we wanted sandwiches. We were ignored again today when we finished our sandwiches and went back to try to get dessert. So sad. read more

Lots of classic cake options. So many options with a rotation of different flavors. I'm not much for their lunch menu but if you're stopping in for lunch, you can't skip dessert. Street parking but at least there's a ramp across the street if you really need. Just learned that their day old desserts are sold for 40% off. I picked up a small chocolate turtle cake on sale. The cake tasted much sweeter than the slice we picked up day of. Surprisingly, for day old, it was much drier than the day of piece. Still passable but I'd probably stick with day of slices. As a whole, the place is great and their cake is fantastic, so in that respect, I would give them a 4.5, BUT....their single cake prices (this is what I typically purchase) have gone up (what hasn't, I know) and the slice sizes have gone down significantly. Kowalski's Market, not too far up the road, has cake slices only slightly smaller for $2 less, and while they aren't as good overall, they are very good in and of themselves. If we are paying nearly $10 for a slice of cake, it should be size-equivalent. Hopefully this reaches someone in management who can make this important change. read more

If you haven't tried Cafe Latte in St. Paul I highly recommend! They offer some street parking but there is a parking lot across the street for more space. My personal favorite that I get everytime is the Tres Leches Cake. If I could eat this everyday I would!! With its whipped topping it has the perfect blend of sweetness and a soft sponge like interior. The addition to the raspberries brings a tart flavor together. Cafe Latte offers other additional food other than cakes. I have yet to try out the other options but I would love to come back and try it out! It is usually busy on weekends but the service is fast and staff is always helpful! This place is a must visit for anyone wanting a sweet treat. read more

I've been going to Cafe Lahdeedah, as my suburban sisters call it, since they opened. When I lived in St. Paul it was the go-to for ladies' lunch or afternoon Caffee und Kuchen. I miss it now that I am on the East Coast: Cafe Latte has better cakes, better bread, a nice casual but classy dining room. But... ...I still stop in when I am visiting back home, but the good-old same-old hasn't kept up. When they opened, Midwestern tastes were so different from what they are now that they asked if you wanted the salsa in the chicken salsa chili or on the side! The rich coffee and chocolately chocolate desserts were out there. Now when I go looking for something 'lish, I end up with dessert, maybe a cup of under-seasoned soup, and the sandwich spread sampler (which is still good). Bread there is wonderful; scones good (though getting coffee cakey the past few years). The salads that were once cutting edge now seem underseasoned. The staff who were always attentive now seem slightly resentful; like college kids hoping no one from home sees them working at a service job. I've called to order cakes for local pick up, and have gotten attitude from the person on the phone - I've done this for many years, and until recently always was treated like a member of the family (and not the black sheep of same). The owners ought to respond to constructive criticism about staff and the line and cashiers. People who love the place bother to tell them. I know the owner used to say to critics, "every one criticizes us, but everyone imitates us." Well, times and people have changed. People who don't love it just go to some of the emerging alternatives. Raspberry cream torte and lemon torte are world's best. Current Scones still good, but getting a little puffy. I recently had the Caesar salad and it was a complete disappointment. Not only was it ridiculously expensive, but the dressing tasted sour and had an odd aftertaste that made me feel like I had eaten something spoiled. To make matters worse, the portion size of the sandwich I ordered was laughably small. I felt like I had been cheated out of my money, as I ended up paying a premium for a meal that was not even filling. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a satisfying meal. The prices are exorbitant, the portions are minuscule, and the quality of the food is questionable at best. I've been back three times in the past few weeks, and the customer service has shown a remarkable improvement - consistently friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. I also tried the pizza, and it's a standout. The crust is out of this world - perfectly crisp and full of flavor. I paired it with your French Pinot Noir, and it was a fantastic combination. I love the decor of this place. It's a cafeteria style type of restaurant. You stand in line and go down down the lane and pay at the end. There are numerous items to choose from including soups, salads and sandwiches. I arrived with a group of five people and it was easy finding a table. There is seating on the first level and there is also an upper level. I just came for the dessert. There are so many dessert items to choose from! The wife has never been one for sweets as long as I have known her. Recently i stopped by to pick up a cake for my wife as it was our anniversery. knowing fully she would at most take a couple bites i got a relativly small cake. to my suprise as soon as she took a bit her face lit up as if she had never had anything so good in her life. long story sshort the cake would be gone in less then two days by a person who never before ate cake like that. There are three different spots you can start your order. Even if it looks chaotic, don't stray away. They always take care of their customers. Every single time I come here I get a piece of chocolate cake (they're soft and always huge!) and a latte. Their sandwiches are good. The variety of those and salads/pasta salads is quite surprising. Flat bread pizza is great and I highly recommend the veggie pizza but the highlight for me is the cheesecake! Being a celiac you hardly ever come across GF cheesecake and it's even more rare to find it by the slice and it be affordable. Let me tell you it's all those things plus it's heart-stoppingly delish. Their desserts are amazing and they have pizza, salads and soups. Customer service is quick and the staff are friendly. There's plenty of seating and a nice bar area. We were able to order, find our reserved table outside, and receive our coffee and food all within 20 minutes of arriving. They serve Truestone coffee here which absolutely bangs, really really good, and I got a vanilla latte that had actual vanilla bean in it. Delectable! I got the Chorizo bowl which comes with 2 salsa that pack some pleasant heat and are complimented by a couple small slices of pineapple. My friends got the Bacon Egg and Cheese Breakfast Sandwich, and the special Guajillo Eggs Benedict both of which were also quite satisfying. The one item I did not enjoy was the Biscuits and Gravy, the gravy was just too sage heavy (as advertised) and I am not sure I liked the combo of pork and bison meat in it.
