We had a big group on a hot summer evening. Since their patio was nicely shady we selected to sit outside. The server did a great job handling the 10 of us. We started with some drinks. The Pimms Cup was good but the Rum punch was just OK. The menu had many tempting choices. We got some apps - the cheese curds were very good. The fried pickles were not my favorite. I ordered their porketta sandwich with bourbon sauce and it was excellent. It was not a traditional preparation but an even better version. Very juicy - I loved it. On an unseasonably warm day in October, we decided to hunt down a patio to soak up whatever was left of the residual summer sun. This place looked like a solid spot for some classic bar food and it did not disappoint! Upon walking in you're greeted with a small but charming pub, but as you continue to walk, the back opens up to a large parking lot patio with full sun! We ordered an old fashioned and a beer to cheers a new job offer I had received, then Fish & Chips, and the Porketta Cubano Sandwich. The meals were hearty and cooked well, very large portions, and hit the spot. I love the addition of giardiniera to add pops acid to break up an otherwise meaty & cheesy sandwich. This place is so cute. We walked in at 11:08 and they don't open until 11:30 and they very graciously sent us and served as immediately. At 11:30 we were just finishing up our meal. I had the fish and chips it was amazing. Super crispy fish very meaty and not separated from the batter. French fries are frozen fries the kind I really like. My husband had the shrimp tacos I stole the shrimp as I don't like all the rest of the stuff on there it was amazing. He really liked his tacos. My friend had the porketta Cubano and she went for the spicy giardinero she said her nose was running but it was totally worth it. The sandwich was very good. She had fries also. Hey, this place is pretty cool! We opted to pick a place we have not ever been to before. It has a typical bar scene feel, not too bright, not too dark. Their bisects two eating areas. We were put on a wait list since they not take reservations for less than for in the group. The bar and restaurant was semi-crowded due to the MN United game going on. We bellied up to the bar, and a couple were nice of enough to offer us their seats, since the match was almost over (thank you nice couple!). I will say it was a passionate crowd in attendance rooting for the home team, so if you're a United FC fan, this is the place to be. Sitting down at the bar you'll notice the bar is kept clean of empties as well as the bar surface. I would characterize the bar offering s as average. There is not a large array of liquors and liqueurs to make some craft driven specialty drink. They have all the basics to make your standard cocktails. I will note that they have a decent bourbon list. The tap list consisted a spectrum of beers that should appeal to just about anyone's palate. The menus is plenty fun. They obviously have the standard bar-fare; wings, cheese curds, hamburgers etc. One thing stands out and rightfully so is the Porketta. If you like pork roast, you'd think you had died and went to porcine heaven. There are several offerings of dishes that have Porketta. The poutine has Porketta, cheese, French fries and of course the gravy, Nachos with Porketta, and a few sandwiches with the Porketta. We could not really make up our mind so ended up ordering the BWCA salad...because you should mix in a salad in once in a while, and we ordered the poutine and the three Ps (Porketta sandwich, Pasty, and Potica) fully intending on taking a bunch of food home. Boy, we chose well! The Porketta was amazing as I hoped it was, and the pasty was huge, and is served with a side of gravy. I will drive out of my way to eat the Porketta. Note the Potica was a wee bit dry, so I would pass on that sweet. On the service side, even after all the soccer fans cleared out, the service was certainly on the slow side. Not sure why, my wife and I were two of maybe four bar patrons. This is located on Grand avenue, and we know how parking is here. Friends and I sat in the back patio and it was super nice with multiple umbrellas! Perfect for happy hour. The server recommended the fish tacos and they were good! My friends got the turkey burger and beet salad. The mangorita I got was super good! It seemed the menu had multiple strong drinks if your up for that vibe also. Only took a star away since my friend didn't love the beet salad, she didn't say it was bad, but felt the beets weren't as "firm" as she would like. Pretty typical noisy, folksy, neighborhood hangout as expected, based on a northern Minnesota Iron range theme. Food was passable; nachos were over rated, which my wife came for specifically, bourbon burger was good, drinks were so-so; Bootlegger was poorly mixed, or very lightly poured, mostly soda for the bottom half. Big problem was the service. We presented a $10 coupon taken from a local publication which stated only the following conditions: " $10 off any dine-in purchse of $50 or more, cannot be used with any other offer, limit one per visit, expires 9/30/2026." Our drink tab came to $19.50 and meals $38.00, clearly more than the $50 minimum required before taxes and tips. They refused to honor the couplon because the bar tab was separate from the meals--we had to order our drinks at the bar because there was nowhere to sit when we arrived, otherwise we would have ordered drinks at our table. They won't be seeing us again; and hopefully they won't be seeing you either. read more

My brother and I had a retirement lunch with our extended families on a Sunday afternoon. The Iron Ranger helped us make a plan and gave us a dedicated private space and server. The food was fantastic, the drinks were quick, and we all had a great time. My non-Iron Range family members really enjoyed all of the Range food, especially the potica. This place is awesome! Came here for lunch on the way to a football game. While not a huge place, hubs and I were seated right away. My wife and I were in St. Paul for lunch before the Minnesota MLS Loons game and I did some research on Yelp and I came across this gem. It is right on a main drag and we were able to park right in front of the establishment for a one hour parking spot. We asked for a spot on their lovely patio on a perfect day and we were immediately brought two ice waters. Refreshing. I ordered a hazy IPA from Lagunitas from my home state of California and a porketta sandwich with slow cooked pork, green pepper aioli, hot giardiniera, and provolone on some of the best baguette I have ever had. The pork was super juicy and I upgraded for the side salad with Caesar dressing. The salad was super solid, with fresh greens and lots of fresh ingredients. Our server was perfect and checked on us a couple of times, the perfect amount and enough to bring me a blood orange IPA from 21st Amendment. Highly recommended place. My friend and I sat at the bar and the bartenders were really unprofessional and rude. One made me a martini that had olives stuffed with garlic and didn't tell me, and when I said I couldn't drink it and would like to re-order, she said she'd have to charge me. I love the theme of the Iron Range (haha). We sat on the patio ... It is a great spot to enjoy a meal on a nice day, and the live music adds to the festive atmosphere. The food at Iron Ranger is simply delicious. I had the Porchetta Cuban which I'm still thinking about. They also have tots which is perfection. This review is for the business's delivery service quality. On the Yelp page and on the website, Chow Now is listed as the delivery vendor. I ordered online and was given a delivery estimate of 45 minutes. The delivery time came and went, and I reached out to Chow Now when I was informed that they had already tried to contact the restaurant about the status of my order with no success. Half an hour after the expected delivery time, starving at this point, I called Chow Now back and they found out that the restaurant had cancelled my order without informing anyone. I am now trying to get a refund, but this is not guaranteed because for some reason, Chow Now has to confirm with the restaurant that they can approve the refund. A complete waste of everyone's time. Restaurants, please don't offer a delivery service if you can't be reliable and communicative. read more

Extremely Poor Service. We visited Iron Ranger today to celebrate Mother's Day. I was very excited to go as I am from the Iron Range and the website and Instagram pages were very enticing. We got there and were seated right away. The server was polite but did not give any real introduction to the place. I had to download the menu to for the taplist, I needed to access the internet to get it as my phone service was very slow. I had to ask for the password. The waitress asked for my preference and was able to make a decision. So we ordered. She brought my beer and then about 5 minutes later my husbands wine came. At that time we ordered our lunch. While we waited we drank our beer/wine. All of our beer /wine was gone and still no food. A couple came, ordered drink, then ordered food, and then received food. We were still waiting. Finally got our food. My husbands food was nice and hot and mine was cold. I mentioned this to our server, she did not apologize or said she would take care of this. She asked me if I wanted her to take it back. I said I wanted my food hot. I was taken aback with that, no I want to pay money for cold food? Anyway she brought it back, and then said do you want another wine/ beer? I said, well since we had to wait and drank our drinks while we were waiting. The food was good. My problem was all service related. No care by the server to ensure we were satisfied or go to bat for her customers. Great place and awesome tribute to the Iron Range. Feels a little divey in all the right ways. I met a friend here for some after work beers (perfectly fitting, a childhood friend from the Range!) and it was everything I could have hoped for - authentic decor, a big Highway 61 sign on the wall, photos of all the Iron Range water towers, a Bob Dylan coaster propped up behind the bar, dim lighting, wood paneling, Hamms pint glasses, and chill bar tenders who fill your beer when you need it but otherwise pretty much leave you alone. Yes, yes, yes. There are plenty of tables for groups small or large and a rather tasty looking menu that I'd definitely like to sample in the future. This time, however, we just stuck to beer at the bar. One pint quickly turned into four in this casual, relaxed atmosphere.
